Baker Mayfield A Money Quarterback

October 11th, 2023

Clutch.

We all know about Baker Mayfield’s clutch play on third downs. Well, what about the money time of the game, the second half?

It seems Mayfield is clutch there, too. Or at least he has been with the Bucs.

Per a release from the Bucs’ media relations staff, Mayfield is damn near throwing for an 80 percent completion percentage in the second halves of games. Mayfield leads the NFL in second-half completion percentage at 78.8 percent.

Mayfield also has the fourth-most touchdowns thrown in the second half of games with four. Only Kirk Cousins (eight), Jordan Love (six), Tua Tagovailoa (six) and Justin Fields (five) have more.

So what about Mayfield under pressure? Again, per the Bucs, Mayfield leads the NFL in completion percentage when throwing while pressured at 68.6 percent.

When the chips are down, Mayfield has delivered.

    baker’s a man on a mission…heavily focused…he’s focused man!

but i’m really starting to hone in one detroit…game is getting close…here are a few issues…

the way we are considered sort of like a top 10 team at this point…the lions are sort of considered a top 5 team…yeah they’re def a top 10 team in the league…but if you really think about it, they just might be a top 5 team…and if not and it happens to be between 6-10, at worst they’re like 6th or 7th best…but really they’re top 5…most people sort of write them off slightly due to all there recent past season’s woes…i see them as a top 5 team right now…

    they are well balanced…

the defense is running around out there with passion and making plays from the front to back end…the linebackers are very solid led by the uber active anzalone…the pass rush is good and the db’s are making plays…this entire group front to back is hungry, making plays and playing very hard for their coach…

goff is playing with a silent chip on his shoulder…”like i’ll show you mcvey, you think i wasn’t good enough to win a superbowl, well look at me now”…

the receivers and tight ends are straight up getting it done…and even though they lost there best back from last year to the saint, they haven’t really missed a beat – as montgomery the former bear is rolling heavyoutta the backfield…i thought their weakness could wind up at running back, but such is not the case…

this team is dangerous and they seem to be exercising all demons of past detroit lions teams of yesteryear…

the other fanbases might not be sold on them yet, but i am…this t

    good for Baker!…
The next few games will reveal if Baker can sustain that level of play or If he has just benefited from the poor opponents they’ve played…

we can wear all the orange in the world on sunday – but we better come to play – and play hard – because this detroit team is balling out…balling out and taking prisoners…

we gotta defend this house while defending the integrity of the creamsicles

Detroit is everyone’s pet, everyone’s discovery now. Everyone predicted this rise. Everyone now says they are top this or top that, adam from ny, you wrote 2 posts and I still don’t know what you’re trying to say.

Reality: Campbell took 2 huge gambles against KC and they both paid off. If he failed on either, they lose the game. They won. They got a boost. But it’s still Dan Campbell, and he’s a lot of tough guy and that schtick burns out eventually.

Goff is not that good. Detroit is not that good. They are not Philly. They are not SF. And they are not home this week.

Bucs win by 10+ points this week.

  7. BucU Says:

Just win by any means necessary.

  8. Mark hardt Says:

I recall it was like that at Oklahoma and his Rookie and 3rd season at Cleveland. Injuries and coaching changes marred his 2, 4, and 5. Things turned around again last year with Mcvey and the Rams offense which is almost the same as Canales offense. With maturity and being able to pick his offense coordinator via free agency I believe he can sustain this path for 10 years.

  9. DLdub Says:

At the end of the day Baker still has a leaky O Line in front of him and a mediocre run game.
    Good teams will expose.it.

  10. Captain Dan Lawrence Says:

I felt from the beginning that he was the right QB for us right now,.. but he has exceeded my expectations.

  11. orlbucfan Says:

DLdub—you’re a Lions’ fan, get lost. Glad your team finally is respectable. Ours won their 2nd SB in their own crib 3 years ago. We’ve wearing the original FL colored unis and pirate helmets Sunday. Our Boyz bring their total A game, your bunch will have a fight on its hands. That also includes the refs. GO Tampa Bay!!

  12. Bucsfan951 Says:

This offense just needs to find a way to get going quicker. Their first quarter scoring is not good at all.

I’ve been a Baker fan since the day he walked on right down the road from me in Norman Ok. I’m at work so I left my comment short but in no way am I a Lions fan. I was a Cleveland fan then Carolina , Rams and now I’m a Bucs fan. I was simply trying to remind people that when a loss happens people need to remember not to pile on Baker . There are legitimate concerns with this team but if anyone can mask those concerns it’s Baker Mayfield. Cleveland fans turned on him even though it’s the worst sports team in modern history

And they are not the Bears. They are not the Vikings.

They say if you are going to Dream then Dream Big. 10 Plus.

Bucs win could mean the difference between 3rd and 4th Seed. Either way Bucs and Lions will not face off again this season unless one team ends up a Wild Card.

  15. Proudbucsfan Says:

I know this should be a really exciting game. It got flexed to 4:30 and should be on national television. I used to live in Tampa but now live near pensacola in the panhandle. I really hope the game is on here or I’ll have to wait until it’s over to watch a replay on NFL+ I also know that our guys have fight and drive in them this season and they didn’t have that last year. Looking forward to a great game. If we get the team energy that showed up to play the eagles its going to be a long night.

  16. David Says:

It is so funny that Joe is reporting Baker’s second half offensive stats. How about his crappy poor stats in first half when they matter the most against the good teams. Baker can catch up in the second half but only against bad teams. The games are decided in the first half against good team like Eagle when he gained some additional yards and a TD in garbage time.

  17. Iamabuc Says:

Have no fear, the Baker is here!!😌

  18. Ex-Browns02 Says:

David — We’re seeing some slow starts — but also some successful finishes. Second half turnarounds are a good thing. Credit Canales with making the adjustments necessary to achieve success. The offense is following their OC. In my mind he’s proven that he’s flexible enough to abandon the original strategy if necessary in favor of one that’s superior in the circumstances.

  19. garro Says:

    80%..Wow!

That is insane! Hope he can keep that number up there but 80% I doubt.

    Go Bucs!
