Anthony Richardson Lauds Kyle Trask

March 6th, 2023

Bucs QB Kyle Trask

The athletic star of the Combine olympiad in Indianapolis last week was Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Interesting to Bucs fans, aside from Richardson meeting with Todd Bowles and Jason Licht, he says he deeply admires the projected Tom Brady replacement.

That’s Kyle Trask, a former Gators teammates of Richardson and the Bucs’ third-year QB.

Richardson was asked at his Combine news conference about Trask and was glowing with love.

“Kyle is a legend, man. He’s a Florida legend.” Richardson said with a big smile. “Just watching him and sitting behind him, you know, he taught me how important it is to wait your turn and how important it is to grind. You know, that guy, he knew everything of the offense. He knew the blocking schemes, the receiver routes, and his sets. Everything.

“At one point in time, he was calling plays for himself. So the Bucs can definitely expect that from him again because he’s a guy that’s great mentally and he has a beautiful arm. You know, so I try to implement that in myself. But, you know, he’s a great guy and they’re going to get that.”

Joe was unaware that Trask was calling some of his own plays in college. That’s pretty cool, especially with the Bucs having a new playcaller that’s only called plays at the junior varsity high school level.

As always, it feels good to hear good things about Trask since so much is unknown about where he stands in his professional development.

Joe’s continued use of this pic will draw more ire ( from Trask Force FanBoys ) than the use of the moniker America’s QB for Winny. And I’m all for and about that.
First, Trask posed for this picture and Joe’s not sure why Trask would even think it’s a bad photo. What exactly is wrong with it? Joe uses many different photos of Trask, including two alongside Tom Brady, among others.–Joe

Would you rather have Trask where his Sugar Bowl T-shirt?

  3. SB~LV Says:

    So ?

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How about using a pic of him in a Buc uniform…….you have to admit this is one of the least flattering pictures you could post. Don’t agree at all. There are two photos of Trask in uniform currently on the home page. As Joe referenced in another comment, Trask posed for this photo. Don’t think he thinks he looks bad, and Joe’s doesn’t see why anyone would think this is a bad shot of Trask. He’s a football player, not a super model. –Joe

  5. ModHairKen Says:

Trask is a good person. He’s grateful. Loyal. Patient. He’s a hard worker. How can you not pull for the guy?

This really comes down to Bowles. He gets a low grade for last year. If I had been GM, he’d have been fired. He’s got more experience than Raheem. He’s got more energy and desire than Lovie. He gets along better with players than Schiano. He’s got more steel in his spine than Koetter. What he has not shown is the FU attitude of Arians and Gruden. Does any of that matter? Well. We will soon know.

I’m done grousing about him coming back. Let’s see what Bowles and Trask can do.

  6. sasquatch Says:

This is one of the more hopeful assessments I’ve heard of Trask. If grinding and knowing all the details of the offense are his strengths, then Trask has a chance, even with average physical traits.

  7. sasquatch Says:

I love how dudes are judging Trask’s appearance in a loose fitting t-shirt. I didn’t know this was Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

  8. Joe Swanson Says:

If seattle doesn’t tag Geno Smith I wonder if JL would be interested. I mean he knows our OC, QB coach and spent his early years with Bowles?

  9. Lt. Dan Says:

That photo of Trask reminds me a lot of the Tom Brady’s combine photo…so what!? Look how that dudes career turned out!

  11. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Hopefully it won’t take him 2….errr…maybe only 1 year of learning the new Canales offense.

  12. D-Rok Says:

Good article, Joe, good insight. My knee-jerk reaction is…OK it takes some mentals to be able to call plays. He’s obviously not a meat-head or a block-head. But there’s a huge difference between memorizing a dozen or so play-calls vs. being able to call any play in playbook, from his memory, during a game.

While an interesting tidbit, this info could mean much or very little, but it does sound promising for the future.

    GO BUCS!!!

  13. Statistically Insignificant Reader Says:

Don’t care what he looks like or where Trask played college ball. He don’t play there no more. Like all Bucs I’m pulling for them to do well. Even Bowles, though I have little faith in him.

How many times does it have to be made clear that the Bucs are not in the market for a 20-30 million dollar QB this year? It’s not happening.

  15. BucsfanFred Says:

I guess we’re gonna see what the kid can do unless he gets beat in camp again. I doubt we’re bringing in AR-15 unless he’s there on day two.

  16. D-Rok Says:

Re: Richardson. I watched the clip with Mooch (Mariucci) who tested his whiteboard and retention skills. AR has a brain and knows how to use it.

I mention this because almost ALL the draftniks and experts say he will be the 2nd QB drafted. Bucs don’t have a chance at AR unless they do something crazy.

Also, speaking to AR’s perceived inaccuracy, quite a few talking heads say he has a lower Compl% because of his run-aroundedness (is that a word?) he tends to have more throw-aways.

I dunno, but if AR can be accurate in the NFL, he is looking to be a very good player for some team. Perhaps.

  17. Marine Buc Says:

    LOL!!!

That is an awesome pic Joe…

Trask looks like he is going trick or treating dressed as a 40 year old soccer dad.

  18. HC Grover Says:

Pic looks right for the Big Bowles Buccaneer 23 Bust.

  19. SlyPirate Says:

    Love the pic!

  20. Fansince76 Says:

That is wild and a bit scary to think about, that Trask has done more big time play calling (at the college level) than our new OC has called (high school level)!

  21. Tye Says:

IF the Bucs can get Richardson to move to TE, they might have a passing due this season… Trask to Richardson – TD!

  22. BucsfanFred Says:

Drock, run-aroundednedd isn’t a word, since you asked. Try restlessness or figitiness or tendency to run around.

  23. Ramblin_Man Says:

Geno staying in Seattle so hopefully we can stop reading bs about him coming to tb like it was ever a possibility.

  24. stpetebucfan Says:

Glad to hear that about Trask but I became more impressed with AR. He obviously knows Trask is the front runner for the Bucs opening and he’s probably interested as well. Instead of trashing Trask, AR gave him major props.

Not that many players have the class of what AR did!!! So I’m convinced the Mooch test is not a fake…AR is a smart and classy dude. Now as to his inaccuracy issues I don’t really know. I’ll let coaches and scouts determine that.

  25. David Says:

Why do people consistently keep thinking they are going to go after quarterback that’s going to cost tens of millions a year?
Question 2 – why would you want them to? The team is not going to be quite as good as it was last year with Brady so how is some journeyman $20-$30 million QB going to do anything here? That would be idiotic.

    Start Trask
    Draft OL,DL,DB,WR,LB
They already started clearing cap space by cutting vets.
They should also trade back and get more draft picks

Next year they could be fine with the salary cap, have a lot of young talent, and if Trask is the guy, great. If not, then draft the franchise QB.

  26. Oneilbuc Says:

    Thank you David!!

  27. Rod Munch Says:

The ESPN write-up on the Saints signing Carr says that the Saints have just committed themselves to more years of mediocrity. Sounds about right.

Not a thing wrong with it…I think it’s perfect. Never stop using it.

Again…the pic is perfect…the shirt is outstanding. It does sorta remind me of the Colts banner that reads “Divisional Round Winner/Participant”…but that’s not important.

As Geno D. once said…”You go Joe…you go!”

  31. DoooshLaRue Says:

Sure Trask looks dorky in that pic…..but compared to the Crying Jaymiss pic Joe used for years Trask looks like a warrior!

  32. SB Says:

So many sensitive Nellies in here tonight.

  33. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

That pic reminds me of when Chris Christie posted that pic of him in a baseball uni. Dude, did you even look at it before you posted it?

  34. Pryda sec 147 Says:

I’m a cup half filled type of guy hope Trask works out for us

  35. Just Leave Trask Alone Says:

Read that Bucs are eyeing Sydney Brown and his 4.77 40.

Lukas Van Ness ran a 4.65. Bucs need a pass rush.

  36. sasquatch Says:

Lotta queens on here worried about how Kyle Trask looks in a loose-fit t-shirt. Betcha love it when they get all sported up in there man-uniforms! So butch!

  37. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I have hardly seen the guy play a few downs in the NFL. I have an open mind about him. The Bucs brain trust of a couple of years ago took a chance on him and we grabbed him in the second round. He has spent much of his time learning Bruce Arians’ playbook which is supposed to be quite complex. Our new and unproven offensive coordinator is going to give him a much simpler scheme and playbook to learn, from what I gather. No matter who we bring in as competition this spring it should be fun to watch what transpires by the first game in September. I am a Buc fan and I want everyone one we call ours to succeed.

    Go Bucs!

  38. Stevek Says:

Lol can the kid Chuck the rock. Who cares what he looks like. Can he play, and in excited to see him shoot his shot.

  39. Winny Testaverde Says:

I’m almost as confused as the gender fluid/confused SauceCrotch talking queens and butch and whatnot. He/she/they is hilarious though. And tough…really tough.

  40. sasquatch Says:

    @Winny,

I’m gender static hetero, bruh. I do have a gay brother, so I know the jargon.

  41. Rod Munch Says:

    I think he looks fabulous!

  42. Vlad The Impaler Says:

    Leave Kyle Alone!!
You basterds are lucky he even suits up for you!
    (*sniffle*)

  43. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

At least in this pic he is pear shaped. Does not look like an athlete. Cue the angry Gator fans in 3,2,1..

  44. BucU Says:

We have absolutely nothing to lose rolling w Trask this season. We are going nowhere so regardless so let’s see what dude can do.

  45. Nicholas Carlson Says:

I’m pretty excited about Trask. His production in the SEC over two years was outstanding.

  46. garbs65 Says:

Let’s just see what Trask can do before we judge him….I can’t stand fans who practice premature e-judge-ulation….

  47. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

All I can say is that Richardson will be an NFL bust. Along with Hooker.

  48. Capt.Tim Says:

    . . . Whats the term Im looking for? . . .
    Oh yeah! – poindexter!

  49. firethecannons Says:

Trask looks like everybody, he is far far from famous, would not recognize him even at the Publix picking up a 12 pack Big storm. Was pleased with AR15’s Trask interview. Hope we roll with Trask, going for the #1 draft pick’24 vs #1NFC south ’23
