Michael Lombardi Not A Fan Of Bucs Offensive Line

February 9th, 2023

“Derek, hope you like crawfish. Give me a platter of Hooters wings over those nasty mudeaters any day.”

In the eyes of one long-time NFL suit, the Bucs may have the third-best offensive line. In the NFC South.

Speaking on his podcast “GM Shuffle” this week, Michael Lombardi, the former coffee fetcher for Bill Walsh, Bill Belicheat and Al Davis, noted the Bucs are one of three teams he heard is kicking the tires on Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.

The other two are the slimy Saints and the Stinking Panthers. A few hours after Lombardi’s podcast published, it was learned the slimy Saints received permission from the Raiders to talk turkey with Carr.

But Lombardi said if he was advising Carr, he’d stay away from the Bucs. Why? Their offensive line.

“If I was Carr, the [team] I would want to go to [between the Bucs, Panthers and Saints] is the Saints because of their offensive line,” Lombardi said. “Or Carolina. I would go wherever the best offensive line was.

“Carolina has good receivers. New Orleans has good receivers. They’ve got [Alvin] Kamara. I would go New Orleans, Carolina.”

So let Joe get this straight: The Bucs have maybe a Hall of Fame receiver in Mike Evans and a Pro Bowl receiver in Chris Godwin but New Orleans or Carolina has better receivers for Carr?

(Michael Thomas of the slimy Saints has a grand total of three touchdowns in the past three seasons. C’mon now.)

Lombardi initially said offensive line is why he would advise Carr to go to New Orleans or Carolina. The Bucs have an All-Pro right tackle, a long-time veteran right guard, a Pro Bowl center, and a guy who if he returns to form, is a rock at left tackle.

That’s no good? Really?

As for Carr, the slimy Saints wined and dined Carr yesterday in New Orleans, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported. While no trade is imminent, Rapoport stated the slimy Saints are the “frontrunner” for Carr’s services.

Michael Lombardi knows who Blowes. The Bucs headless coich.

He’s just not saying that, rather absurd things so everyone knows what most of us already know.

This coich will never — NEVER — win more than 4 or 5 games in a year. Any year. Period.

  2. Buc1987 Says:

He’s a former coffee fetcher Joe!

    Give him a break.

  3. August 1976 Buc Says:

Yep 12+ points less a game tells everything about the Line

Brady completed a lot of passes, still 12+ less points

Coffee fetcher be fetching some sense

No running game equals bad redzone offense

Bucs went from one of the best to worst.

You had better be able to run the ball in the redzone.

Even with the GOAT, they were 12+ points less a game

  4. Jack Clark Says:

    We hire an OC yet?????

    TF is Todd Bowels doing?!?

  5. Jack Clark Says:

Chargers hired an OC in the blink of an eye. That goes to show you how low value Todd Bowels made the Bucs OC opportunity!!!! 😡

  6. Tye Says:

For the most part, I see what he is saying…

Brady struggled to win with the Bucs, OR to even score TDs in each game..
They have one of the top 3 worst HC… NO one seems to want to be the OC…

  7. Joe Says:

Chargers hired an OC in the blink of an eye.

Of course! They’ve got Justin Herbert. Who the hell wouldn’t want to coach him?

    The Bucs have… ?

Well they have, umm…. Lets see???

Oh they are the Island of Misfit toys lol and Santa is not coming this year lol Well maybe brings a Jimmy Garapolo until he gets hurt again, or Derek Carr, or.???? Trask Gabbert
The Bucs will be in this cycle until a new head coach and more talent.

Last year was like 2004 the year after the Super Bowl win,
and then the years that followed with Gruden and Bruce adding veteren bandaids because of a lousy cap situation.

    Yep living in Cap limbo

New Head Coach, and new Cycle of Talent, then there will be hope in Buccaneer land once again.

Until then, there is a brand new Den of Depression on Dala Mabry once again.

    “ The Bucs have… ?”

    That’s my point Joe 😑

You think Tom Brady would have retired if we won the Super Bowl this year? He retired because Todd Bowels ruined his hopes of winning another Super Bowl

Insane thought – maybe Glazerlicht asked Toadster to vette candidates for OC. See who he can attract. When it’s clear that dead Don Coryell is his best candidate, Glazerlicht moves on from the Toadster.

Oh please. Oh please. Oh please.

  12. Bucs Go Bucs Says:

If indeed this is entering point of the cycle of difficult times like in the past, does that mean we have to wait for another 2 decades until we win the next SB?

At least, it looks part with the current makeup of the situation…

    Go Bucs!

  13. Warrenfb12 Says:

The line numbers are misleading, Brady was getting the ball out at a record pace last year. Bowles is bad too. He’s gone next year. Should have been fired already. Why would carr want to come here?

  14. Guzzie Says:

Im hoping the switch Wirfs to LT, he’s a phenomenal player n athlete, plus he’d have the whole offseason to transition, Goedeke looked good against ATL in his natural position RT, plus he’d also have a full offseason to get stronger, draft another RT to compete, Hainsey n Shaq at guard, Jensen, that’s a pretty solid group, other than Jensen, these guys young

  15. ClwJB Says:

The best OC on the market looked at Todd and laughed, promptly signs with LAC

  16. BucsFanSince 1996 Says:

The o-line would have been much better this past season had Jensen & Stinnie not gotten hurt. Losing those guys to injury and Marpet to an unexpected retirement was devastating. On top of all that Smith had an off year.

For Michael Lombardi to evaluate the Bucs offensive line for 2023 is ridiculous because he has no f’ing idea of what it will even look like.
Licht has shown the ability to build a great o-line via the draft and free agency. To make a judgement now in February before free agency, the draft, or the first preseason game is insane.

  17. Craig Says:

Saints O-line didn’t look much better than the Bucs. Kamara had a bad year because he couldn’t get free often, and that is the same as with the Bucs.

The Bucs O-line wasn’t that bad, Brady over-reacted too much and killed plays when they still had a chance.

Bucs don’t need Carr, anyway. He had a loaded team around him and the never got out of neutral.

  18. BUCS Mike Says:

The left side of our offensive line sucks. WE CANNOT RUN THE FOOTBALL! We don’t need Carr. What we need is O’Cyrus Torrence at left guard. He is ready and is a road grader in the run game and an absolute rock at pass pro.
Then give TRASK a chance to run the offense with the starters. The guy just apprenticed under the GOAT for 2 years. At Florida he waited his chance and then showed how well prepared and how good he was behind a lousy O’line.
WE need to be able to run the football and Smith and the Bucs need a back-up Left Tackle too.

  19. Oddball Says:

Saints are 57M over the cap. I don’t see how getting Carr will help them when doing so will most likely make the rest of the team worse. Hopefully Cam Jordan gets traded to some AFC dumpster fire.

  20. BoricuaBucfan Says:

Jack Clark you make a valid point. He is probably seen as a 1 and one coach. I would like us to sign Monken, he makes the most sense.

  21. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Monken will NEVER Leave Georgia @BoricuaBucsFan, especially to come back to Tampa.
Georgia is the new College Dynasty, and when they win their third national title, which they likely will, Monken can demand and get an NFL Head Coaching Job.
Besides, he already is paid 2 million a year ay Georgia.
I don;t think he really had any plans to leave Georgia, he just wanted to show Georgia his market value somewhere else.
