College Football Moves Reinforce Why Bucs Moved On From Byron Leftwich

February 16th, 2023

“Byron, I’ll text Jim Harbaugh for you. Maybe he has an analyst job available. You like stats?”

Often, actions speak louder than words. So recent moves by college coaches at big-time programs scream why the Bucs parted ways with failed and fired former Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich.

Just days after the Bucs embarrassingly lost to the Cowboys on Monday Night Football in the wild card round, Leftwich was fired — about three months too late in Joe’s eyes.

So earlier this month, Nick Saban at Alabama hired Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. Learning of an opening at Notre Dame, Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman got an unsolicited message. It was Leftwich letting Freeman know he was available.

Since, Notre Dame tried to hire Utah offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig and Kansas State offensive coordinator Collin Klein to South Bend. The school couldn’t reach agreements on either coach and instead, Freeman hired an offensive coordinator from within his own staff, tight ends coach Gerad Parker.

So Leftwich, who openly campaigned for the Notre Dame offensive coordinator job, was passed over and at best was a fourth choice, if he was a choice at all.

Alabama lost their offensive coordinator, Bill O’Brien, to the Belicheats. To the best of Joe’s knowledge, Saban didn’t talk to Leftwich, nor did Kirby Smart at Georgia when his OC, Todd Monken, bolted to Baltimore. Smart hired an OC from within, Mike Bobo.

So if Leftwich was all that (he sure as hell wasn’t), how come he’s not (yet) employed by an NFL team? Why did top-shelf college programs barely give him the time of day?

Actions speak louder than words. And this just reinforces that Bucs coach Todd Bowles made the smart move firing Leftwich.

If there was a bad move by Bowles in coming to this decision, it is that it happened months too late.

  1. SufferingSince76 Says:

BL benefited from BA’s red pen. Either BA grossly overestimated BL’s abilities or we got a snow job, which I doubt. So why did/does Bruce think he’s HC material when the rest of the country doesn’t?

  2. Bucsfan13 Says:

I thought it was the washed up old man at QB that was holding Leftwich back. According to the woke analysts on TV, it wasn’t Leftwich’s fault that the offense was so bad last season. If teams thought it wasn’t his fault, they most certainly would have been knocking at his door. They looked at the film and saw stale play calling and awful sequencing on offense. Yes, there were some injuries and Marpet’s retirement that affected the offense, but Leftwich made no adjustments at all. He was hell bent on continuing his stale play calling. It really didn’t matter who we hired. This offense will most definitely average more 18 points per game this year.

  3. gbobucsfan Says:

And people said Lefty didn’t “deserve” to be fired and blamed it on the GOAT. haha.

  4. Old School Nole Says:

Leftwich would have been fired whether he deserved it (he did) or not. Bowles needed someone to blame for the team’s offensive offense. Let’s hope that Leftwich was the reason and not Bowles.

  5. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Notre Dame’s known for high academic standards, that disqualifies Leftwich.

  6. Bucs Lives Matter Says:

And to think Leftwich was being considered for a head coaching dodge in Jacksonville. They dodged that bullet. Leftwich would’ve ruined Trevor Lawrence’s career.

  7. Gofortheface30 Says:

That is a big yikes. Almost feel bad for Leftwich. Almost. I know all Notre Dame is known for at this point is their “tradition,” but it’s still high profile and they may have more money than any school without needing to be part of the TRIBE conferences, (insert SEC fans’ replies – what, you think you’re too good for a conference bro SEC SEC). ANYWAY -imagine winning the Super Bowl with Tom Brady as quarterback, and you’re being glossed over, in favor of a TE coach or some guy at Kansas State. That is REALLY bad. The fact he has to reach out to people unsolicited is sad as hell. Doesn’t seem like he’s being endorsed by anyone at all by his own peers.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Leftwich needs to go back to college….not to coach but to learn English.

  9. Voice of Truth Says:

I hear there are some openings coming up at a high school opening in Polk county

Seems about right for ole lefty

  10. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

But BA said Byron was head coach material what a used car salesman

  11. C2asante Says:

Dumbest space filler of an article among many. This site used to be great for Bucs news, now it’s just a bunch of racist commiserating and whining. Thank God for better choices with actual Bucs news and not dumb isn’t like focus on a former Coach not getting hired for a new job in a profession where it’s the norm that Black coaches don’t get the second chances to the degree incompetent white retreads do. I hope these posts reinforce all your false sense of superiority when fact is men like Coach Bowles (as bad as the offense looked this year), know more and has achieved more than any of the trailer park critics here who have never played on a football team at any level.

  12. Wild Bill Says:

Yah Leftwhich sucked. But he worked under Bowles, right? He worked under the GM, right? And Brady, in past seasons, changed plays while under center frequently when he saw how the defense was setting up. If Leftwhich sucked, which he did, then so did Bowles, Brady, the GM and ownership. And yet no major changes were made by management or coaches or Brady as a lousy season droned on. WTF? Do you really believe changing the one coach will change the entire organization?

  13. Patrick Says:

If Leftwich was promoted to head coach instead of Bowles, we would have finished 12-5 or in that neighborhood, and maybe not gotten embarrassed in the playoffs. We would have went for it on 4th and 2’s, instead of trying failed fake trick punts. If last year’s results were the reason for the termination, they fired the wrong guy. All of you are about to find out, what I and Jets fans, already know. Lol

  14. NEfan Says:

A coach the assists in giving Brady his worst season ever? Start looking for open high school positions. Once Blows fail this season he to will be filling out Walmart & Home Depot applications.

  15. Patrick Says:

As soon as Bowles was promoted, Leftwich should have resigned and saved his reputation. He took a bullet for an inept head coach, and a QB that had nothing left, imo.

  16. Marine Buc Says:

Leftwhich needs to be a QB coach for a small college program like Marshall or Jackson State… That’s where he belongs. He is not and never was qualified to be an offensive coordinator.

He was gifted the job here in Tampa and he was way in over his head as our OC.

He needs to start at the bottom and EARN his way up the latter this time.

I blame Bruce Arians for this mess. He should have known better but was to prideful and too charitable to be honest.

  17. Christopher Says:

Marine what qualifies you to critique him? Arrogance is at an all time high among you people

  18. tbbucs3 Says:

Blame Leftwhich who called the plays for a Superbowl winning team in 2020 but not a slow washed up running back in Fournette and a former great immobile quarterback who fell off a cliff

  19. Oneilbuc Says:

This is the same OC that was calling the plays when we won the super bowl and just because Brady played bad by throwing balls in the dirt missing open receivers and he was scared to get hit BL was the scapegoat. And we all know how black coaches are treated in the NFL. The bucs job was a bad job for any minority as long as Brady was on the team because they’re easyer to blame.

  20. Suggiefresh Says:

So this comes to why was Arians all about Leftwich. Was he on a equity campaign or did he truly believe Leftwich was a competent OCand possibly HC. Hmmmm.

  21. Christopher Says:

NE Fan is so bored with the irrelevant Patriots that you come here to insult a man who has accomplished more in sports than you could imagine. It sounds idiotic to say he gave Brady his worst season. More like Brady hung on a season too long when he was mentally checked out, looked old, gaunt and slow and helped a formerly good coach get fired. Given how afraid Brady was of getting hit and how quick he threw balls away or to the opposing team, he needs to move down to a lesser level of football too. Just more arrogance to stroke weak egos

  22. D-Rome Says:

No need to kick a man when he’s down. He played an important role as an assistant coach during the 2020 and 2021 season. He had a bad year in 2022. The biggest reason for that probably has to do with Todd Bowles being the head coach instead of Bruce Arians followed by the changes in personnel (injuries or otherwise). Does anyone here really think missing Marpet, Jensen, and Gronk during the regular season didn’t make a difference?

  23. Patrick Says:

A QB that didn’t have much left, I should have said. He still made some throws, and Mike Evans didn’t do him any favors on a lot of Sundays. But it was still Tom Brady. If the BUCS came into the playoffs 11-4 or 12-5 in a confidence high, you never know what could have happened. Bowles pass defensive play calling was pretty pathetic for most of the year, so I don’t think we would have went deep, but again…you never know. Think about some of the QBs that beat us this year, and looked like Joe Montana, doing it? Our D backs and LBs, were NEVER in the right spot, or letting wideouts run down the sidelines free, or 10 yard cushions up the middle to TEs.Just throwing that out there.

  24. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Christopher

“what qualifies you to critique him? Arrogance is at an all time high among you people”

I have eyeballs in my head.

If your boy Leftwhich was so talented and was able to impress anyone with his “knowledge and intelligence” he would have already been hired.

And what do you mean by – “you people”?

    LOL!!!!!!!

  25. Marine Buc Says:

    Sometimes the TRUTH hurts.

IF BL was worth a spit he would still be our OC…

If BL was worth a spit after getting canned he would already have a new job.

BL needs to start over. Go back to being a QB coach and EARN his way back up the latter. I suggested Marshall because that’s where he currently belongs. I could have said McDonalds if I was trying to be mean about it.

    GEEEESH…

  26. Patrick Says:

DRome…they had a couple of years to fix the Marpet hole, and drafted Goedeke, but he wasn’t very good. Maybe he improves this year. Don’t know about anyone else, but yes.. I totally agree, Jensen and Gronk missing were both huge factors. Otton played pretty good, but Kieft was pretty invisible (when he wasn’t missing blocks), and Brate was ageing before our eyes. If Gronk really did suggest he would come back in November; whoever said no should have had his head on the chopping block as well, along with the guy who sees the run up the middle not working missing your starting center, yet continually tries to go there again and again. I think I know who those “two” are. It’s the same guy. The one who didn’t get fired.

  27. Christopher Says:

So the fact that in football Black coaches are last hired and first fired in your mind is a reflection solely of their competence? Sadly you people probably really do believe that. Just as you are quick to credit affirmative action rather than talent and hard work when one happens to get hired

  28. Anonymous Says:

Leftwich was a traitor. Why is everyone ignoring the actual, on the ground, live action facts? The guy led defenses to success. Being the OC, well of course he was aware that the offensive line was the greatest weakness we had! Even IF Bowles wanted more of a ground game, Leftwich REFUSED to put into action ANYTHING EXCEPT the good Ole “Run Up Gbe Middle” . The UTMOST, UNCREATIVE possible run play in the entire book. You might also note THAT IT WAS THE “ONLY” RUN PLAY HE WOULD USE FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON!

And if you want to know why then, maybe the answer is as old as time. Jealousy. He didn’t get the job over Bowles. Or maybe he was told by someone that he was going to get the job and didn’t. Revenge. I DO believe however that he was willing to cut his throat so deep that not even a college (no matter the size nor rank) would sniff him if he begged to work for free! And I’m not going to lie. That makes me Very Satisfied for what he did to us, and Brady and on and on.

Well in any case I just don’t see the possibility that he entirely forgot what being an even slightly creative OC was. I’m never going to believe that. NO WAY he made it that far by knowing NOTHING….

@Patrick a few comments above has pointed out, if we stuck to the original Arians strategy then possibly we would have finished with a fantastic record promoting Leftwich to headcoach. And he very well might be right.

He (Leftwich) may have been out of his element for what Bowles wanted to do but THAT doesn’t dismiss the FACT that he wouldn’t have forgotten how to be a basic OC with as many tests he’s been through. You know, BASIC SCHEMES with DOZENS AND DOZENS of choices to implement. He absolutely did NOTHING except…. Run it up the middle a billion times with no change!? Common Man! Sabotage!

If someone can prove me wrong I’m listening. Good luck with that.

  29. HC Grover Says:

He was Bozos scapegoat. Now he has a new one. Poor Canales. At least now the pre season hyping can begin. Are we heading for the NFL doldrums or will the Bucs restart, delete, and begin the overhaul that this clunker needs. A Palm Beach Paint Job will not help them.

  30. Patrickbucs Says:

Chris this is a message board where you are supposed to give an opinion. That’s what they are, for God’s sake takes it easy. Coaches get hired and fired all the time.

When you don’t have an argument que up the race card. Bucs have had more minority coaches than any NFL franchise.

  31. Marine Buc Says:

    @ TBBF

“Leftwich needs to go back to college….not to coach but to learn English.”

He only needs to learn one phrase…

“Do you want fries with that?”

  32. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

Nobody wants to throw it 45 times a game? Weird.

  33. Anonymous Says:

    @Marine Buc

Man, I couldn’t have said it any better. Well said! I’m laughing my arse off!

  34. Gofortheface30 Says:

Ahhh yes Christopher with the strong victim mentality vibes. Your non alpha, “it’s a co spinach” mentality won’t ever allow you to be successful in life. Hey Christopher – did you know Notre Dames head coach is a young black man? Leftwich wasn’t even a consideration even though he was with Brady and won a Super Bowl. Use your brain

  35. Christopher Says:

As poorly coached as his offense looked this year, I bet dollars to donuts you white hood wearing keyboard cowards will be selling burgers and fries long before he ever will. It’s easy to diminish the work of others wen you have never achieved anything yourself. That is the definition of white privilege

  36. Marine Buc Says:

    @ chris

Oh please… Take that woke garbage elsewhere.

Nobody gives two spits what color BL is.

The truth is he was coddled by BA and gifted the OC job and performed poorly during the only season he didn’t have BA looking over his shoulder and guided him…

    End of story.

My first choice of OC was Brian Johnson. Guess what color he is?

  37. River A Says:

I don’t think you know what white privilege means.

  38. Marine Buc Says:

    @ chris

Is Todd Bowles a “white hood wearer” too?

He fired a black coach and replaced him with a white one…

How does that workout for you using your current logic?

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

    What a joke…

  39. River A Says:

As far as the logic that says since the AD at Notre Dame didn’t hire Leftwich- therefore Leftwich is bad… if you look at ND record last year, I’d say the hiring decisions aren’t flawless. The Bucs offensive performance was obviously woeful. But Leftwich didn’t cause false starts etc. OC’s get some credit and some blame. The QB gets some credit and blame etc. But the logic that says if you’re not hired you obviously are bad – reveals nothing

  40. Who Says Says Can't Say Says:

From HC candidate to unable to get an OC gig at the college level, what a fall… maybe he should have given legitimate press conferences… maybe he shouldn’t have insisted on running middle left on first down over and over and over…

  41. NEfan Says:

Yup, all the it’s his color that caused this and wo always me crybabies blaming the world as to why poor BL doesn’t qualify for ONE of the 3 or 4 HC positions available or the half of dozen OC jobs he is being overlooked for. It is impossible to believe this man of color just isn’t a great coach and doesn’t present himself as such. As for 2020 & 2021, clearly BA had his red pen out in full force. I guess that’s hard to swallow to. Sure we can blame Brady for the predictable runs, receiver route design and ZERO ability to run PEsrIOD. Knock the freaking chip off your shoulders and face the facts, he isn’t good and the MAN who FIRED him is BOWLES!!!

  42. Anonymous Says:

    @Chris
You’re straight up race baiting and you have no ground to stand on with that. It’s pathetic and weak what you’re attempting.

In reality, as you are well aware, it is you whom is the pushing that garbage. Straight Up. What does that make you Chris? I’ll tell you. You’re a sad little person who should really go outside a little more. Maybe see the real word and get out of your clicks. A cultist. No real life. You promote hate and I personally hope your karma makes you aware of how small you are right now.

When you grow up and actually realize what real is then you got a chance at being a good human. At this time this is not what you seem to be. I actually hope you’re joking and this is a sad attempt for attention that you SURELY could have achieved in a far different way.

This is your COME ON MAN moment. Get a life young buc or young lady. Give yourself a chance. You seem like a smart guy and you might have been on to something before you went off the reservation. You should be a better human than that by now.

BESIDES THAT SHAT ISN’T ALLOWED HERE ON JBF! You WILL BE THROWN OUT BY THE OWNER FOR RACE BAITING! POOR FORM MAN!

  43. SKBucsFan Says:

Bowles has made a smart move by firing Leftwich. But who will make the right move and get rid of Bowles?

  44. gotbbucs Says:

I don’t care what the numbers say, Leftwich was just as sh!tty an OC in 2020 and 2021 as he was in 2022. He had top 10 talent at almost every offensive position on the field in 20 and 21 and still made moving the ball down the field look laboring.
He was a dunce running someone else’s scheme and had no idea how to adjust it to work without a roster covered in generational talent.

I have no idea what to think about Canales, and neither does anyone else on this board. What excites me about a guy like him is the unknown. For better or worse this will be his scheme and we get to watch him live or die by his own making and decisions, not by some old helicopter parent coach stepping in the meeting room and scribbling red pen over crayon drawn plays to teach his underling a lesson.

  45. D-Rok Says:

If a person is a good coach, he doesn’t get fired, and it’s as simple as that.

Coach Tomlin is a good example.

  46. mark2001 Says:

D-Rok… from a little different perspective, if a coach has a perennially good team, he is considered a good coach and doesn’t get fired. At least until the owner figures it isn’t enough to just be good. And ff he doesn’t perennially have a good team, he likely isn’t considered a good coach, and gets fired.

  47. mark2001 Says:

Poor Lefty…the only question is, how bad is he? How much influence did Bowles have on him and the offense after Bruce left? And how much influence will Bowles have on the new coach. I just hope we aren’t dealing with a HC that is a coach career killer among his own staff. Those kind of people exist in every business. Hope not here.

  48. 954Joe Says:

Loving the Leftwich hate campaign on this site, good job destroying another black coach

  49. NEfan Says:

If it was in fact Bowles doing for the offensive wo’s then he is the tyrant in this whole debacle. And it is he that ruined BL’s career not other coaches or teams overlooking him.

  50. Anonymous Says:

    Well NEfan,

At least you’ve come up with a slightly different senerio. And it’s interesting. BUT… There’s no supporting evidence of that. Don’t see the motivation for Bowles to go after Leftwich. He NEEDED Leftwich….

  51. 954Joe Says:

People are in the comments literally telling Lefwich to go “back to college and learn English” but my comment is the one deleted. Awesome.

  52. David Says:

Why is no one demanding answers from Bruce Arians over this debacle??

  53. sasquatch Says:

    America in a nutshell.

@Anonymous selling conspiracy theories that Leftwich deliberately sabotaged the offense, even though doing so is career suicide. And then he says “prove me wrong”… I have something for you @anonymous — God is a flying spaghetti monster… prove me wrong.

A few mentioning Leftwich should go back to college to learn English. Not because of the color of his skin, but because he quite clearly is not skilled in speaking.

A few others consider this commentary r@cist and call them hood-wearers.

Leftwich did a horrible job. Deserved to be fired. It’s not surprising that he is not currently employed. He was clearly uncreative, didn’t know how to exploit opponents weaknesses, but perhaps the most damning for his future prospects is how poorly he communicates. Not just the incomprehensible meaningless gibberish he utters, but his arrogant defensiveness of his decision-making makes him toxic.

Someone will say my criticism of Leftwich is r@cist.

Those people also make the point that black coaches are the last hired and first fired. I believe they have some data to prove that. So, they’re not wrong. That, of course, does not mean every black coach not hired or fired is a victim of r@cism… Especially in Tampa — this franchise has hired more black coaches than any other franchise. Our current coachinng staff, has been probably 50% African American under BA.

Also worth noting — most of the coaches released in the purge at OBP were white.

  54. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

Some of yall would rather lose with a coach of your preferred color than win. Pathetic Neanderthal thinking. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have no one to answer to when it comes to employing black coaches.

  55. mark2001 Says:

Ultra… I have a good deal of Neandenthal DNA. More than about 70% of the population. But I won’t hold that racial comment against you. LOL.

  56. Goatfarmer Says:

Toad Blowes is at least as culpable as ByeMron. They should have both been fired. Brian Flores is a good head coach and was there.

  57. Pewter Power Says:

Dude will struggle to get a job at juco

  58. Defense Rules Says:

Sasquatch … ‘I have something for you @anonymous — God is a flying spaghetti monster… prove me wrong.’

Have to admit Sasquatch, that one took me totally by surprise and had me LMAO. I didn’t think anyone else had ever heard of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and the ‘perks’ of being a Pastafarian: Every Friday is a Religious Holiday, No Dues, Beer Volcano in the afterlife, and a Pirate Regalia at formal functions. Why do I have the feeling that at least half of the JBFers who just read that will be in a frenzy now trying to figure out how to sign up.

HOPEFULLY that isn’t ‘America in a nutshell’ however (although at times in recent years I’ve had my doubts).

  59. sasquatch Says:

    @Defense Rules,
If I wanted to do a more complete job of “America in a nutshell” I’d spend more time on counterfactualism, conspiracy theories, white nationalism, religious zealotry, anti-science, and gun worship… but that would trigger half the people on JBF.

  60. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

    Mark

That’s good tho. The more neadrathal you have, the less lizard you have lol

  61. NEfan Says:

Recently watched Eddie Murphys new movie You People. Pretty funny though there is a specific word used often that is supposed to be funny but if I felt the urge to laugh I had to look over my shoulder to make sure I wasn’t being filmed. Hypocritical yes but isn’t time for all to just let the haters hate and disappear and the rest of us enjoy Eddie Murphys movie?

  62. Not a racist Says:

Thie comments section is full of racist trolls. ND didn’t want to buyout the utah oc. They’re cheap. I doubt they wanted to pay Byron what he wanted. I’ve never seen a situation where someone got none of the credit, yet all of the blame when things went bad. It’s cool tho, karma will ruin this franchise

  63. Defense Rules Says:

    Sasquatch … Only half?

  64. sasquatch Says:

    @DR, I was being generous.

  65. sasquatch Says:

    @Not a r@cist,
Yes, there are r@cist trolls here, but that has nothing to do with Leftwich’s poor performance. It was a historically bad offense in the run game, and the passing game didn’t exploit the opponents’ weaknesses. Numerous observers and commentators have stated how predictable they were. Opponents too claimed they knew exactly what was coming. So, bashing Lefty’s awful performance and arrogant defensive (often incomprehensible) responses to media when questioned has nothing to with r@cism.

  66. SlyPirate Says:

WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT LICHT and TODD?

Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) knew BL was an imposter at OC. So …
    1. Why did they retain him (for BA)?
    2. Why didn’t they fire him mid-season (for BA)?
    3. If they knew he would fail without BA, but were loyal to him, why not get a talented backup OC to help.

I don’t understand how you waste TB12 and the Bucs’ last hoorah for a known dud.

  67. Marine Buc Says:

    @ 954

“Loving the Leftwich hate campaign on this site, good job destroying another black coach”

I can’t wait until the day comes when we can just refer to Byron Leftwhich a just “a coach”…

  68. Stormy Says:

Anyone who thinks that Lefwich was responsible for 2020 and 2021 (without any help from BA) probably also thinks pro wrestling is real.

Anytime Leftwich has had to go it alone without is daddy (BA), he’s flopped.

    Facts. Not racism.

You’re CERTAINLY no different than the racist child that was on here earlier. And you crying to Joe a couple of days ago about how you had the right to be a racist here on JBF. You’re so freaking PATHETIC!

And as I was saying lady, why don’t you show us what a bright genius that you are and prove me wrong. You also tried to “fascist” some other fellow the other day and I challenged you on his behalf. That won’t work with me sweety. AND I DO MEAN SWEETY!

I get it most of yall on here are white so I wouldn’t expect for most of you to agree that it’s a real problem in the NFL with black coaches. Name one white OC that won the super bowl and had 3 top 5 offenses with 2 different quarterbacks and got fired I’ll wait?? A lot of y’all used words like woke to ignore the problem with the NFL and black coaches. The eagles lost the super bowl and yet the OC had a head coaching job the next day. When it comes to black OCs and the offense is ranked top 5 it’s always because of the head coach. But when it’s white OCs it’s because of the OC . That’s a fact and BL was a victim of a washed up quarterback that no one never held accountable for nothing and that’s why BL got fired. Now watch this year I promise you if the offense sucks this year it will be Trask fault and not the OC .

  73. sasquatch Says:

I gotta say though, I’m do e with Ole Samsquish over there. And it’s true. I got thing for bullies. I love to hate them. And I do so love to get into, well let’s say there minds. The TMI thing is true.
I’m not that bad but I suppose I’m like a coral snake. I’m not looking for a fight. But man if you touch me….. Yeah a rattle snake can kill you and it’s looking for a nasty fight. Poison takes awhile to really be effective. But me, kinda like a coral snake. Though with a little less nasty disposition, far deadlier and death in seconds for bumping into me to hard. Like I said. Not likely to chase someone, but Don’t touch me in the wrong spot at the wrong time. Instant hulk.

Whoever, I’m actually just calling out someone I consider to be weak minded and a very easy challenge. Samsquish will fall into the trap. Samsquish is a rattle snake and a sucker. I would consider you or a few others to be a stronger challenge. You might actually be able to come up something. My case isn’t air tight but overwhelming once laid out.

Nobody’s thinking this thing through. Leftwich sabotaged us. It’s all over the wall. Bowles couldn’t stop him or wouldn’t. Seems to me with Bowles rep that he would have fired him way sooner because he KNOWS this is his last shot. Bowles had to make a move to stop him. But he couldn’t. The only real question here is why they wouldn’t let Boes do what needed to be done to save the season and himself. I’m trying to figure out what they must have offered him to play a long. But why do it with Brady on board REALLY complicates it….

I’m just not sure about Bowles. He knew he was a dead man walking. Especially without Brady…

And yes to talk about his IQ is what most of cowards do when it comes to black people having any kind of leadership. I have never heard anyone call a white coach or a white quarterback dumb even if they are bad at their positions. So call it woke all you want but I can backed it with facts!!

  80. sasquatch Says:

Tough guy. Seriously man, seek counseling. I’m not kidding.

  81. Anonymous Says:

You know what. Bowles IS sitting on a five year contract. Guaranteed pay off. BUT…. it had to be more. I of course DO NOT know the inner workings of the Bucs org but from the outside in, they must have told him first that he was a lock for at least 2 years to either put up or shut up. They knew by mid season that Brady was running out of time physically and mentally. Still has it. Just can’t quite use it. It’s not his fault. He’s a freaking super human machine. He’s a pretty good measuring stick for how far the human male can make it in perfect conditions. He lost that prematurely with the divorce. He would probably (with his mind right) made it to 50.

They told Bowles (spit balling) he could have whatever he wanted. If he wants the running back that Joe was talking about, he’s NOT going to get a fight over it. Whatever he wants.

Whoever he can get. And they WOULD overpay to get his guy if available. Let’s be very real here. That is NOTHING MONEY to them. One, Two million extra?? So what! Play along and WHATEVER YOU WANT.. They live in the top 1% on the planet. THAT’S FOR REAL…

Again, they have “actual” geniuses working out and on the likelihood and the possibilities of…. wait for it…. HOW TO MAKE BILLIONS MORE. And those guys are so good with their crystal balls and calculators that it’s ALREADY all mapped out including hundreds of different “what if” scenarios. They are No Bodies fool and I believe that YES they want to WIN! More importantly, win and build the investments (the team) as far as possible every single day. And for now, they have had their turn and made their money. I believe they would do it again right now if it truly were in the stars.

Third, going back to the contract. It is for 5 years though with stipulations and guaranteed loaded back money, Bowles will never have to work again and he not young and his rep is still in place (for now at least in my view) and could get a college gig to fill his golden years with. I’m sorry but Bowles IS NOT a dullard like most would have you believe. And BTW, neither is Byron Leftwich. But Byron IS NOT WISE! It REALLY COST HIM! What he did was incredibly STUPID. He really has cut his own throat. So deep that he literally may never recover. I hope he made very wise investments with the few million he did make for him and his family. That is the type of man that would sell his soul just to prove a point. DANGEROUS! DANGER WILL ROBINSON! And THAT’S WHY. NOBODY. will touch him with world wide poll! NOBODY! At the least for now.. I don’t hate him BUT he deserves his “just desserts”. I don’t feel to bad though. He’s made DARN GOOD money in one h3ll of a part time gig.

Not saying he was ultra talented but people seriously believe he just bumbled his way through YEARS of Pro Football coaching (like Homer Simpson)? That’s a COME ON MAN! moment!

  86. NEfan Says:

Anonymous, sabotage?? Hmmm. Riddle me this Batman, if BL was truly sabotaging the team why was Brady so fond of him. Bowles on the other hand I could believe. It didn’t seem that he wanted BA’s hand me downs and Brady as his QB. If Leftnut was sabotaging the O then one would have to believe Brady was involved which makes absolutely no sense, why would he ever want to damage his legacy? You’re up biache!

  87. sasquatch Says:

    @NEfan,

He’s dug in on the sabotage thing. He’s gone postal when challenged on this a few times… “prove me wrong” seems to be a provocation so he can go off on some looney tunes diatribe… I think we’re dealing with some serious imbalance here, like roll out the straightjacket type of thing.

As to the sabotage, it’s so ludicrous as to barely be worth responding to… Seems to me he’s challenging people to disagree, yet he hasn’t provided evidence, so in case the mental case is still reading here’s a prerequisite to establish sabotage:

    * INTENT

It’s not enough to say the offense sucked, or that it didn’t suck the year before. It’s not enough to suspect that Lefty was bitter that Bowles got the HC job over him… These are incidental. Now, unless @Anonymous knows Leftwich personally or has spoken to someone who knows it was his intention to suck, the argument is retarded.

So I say to the unbalanced loonjob: Leftwich DID NOT deliberately sabotage the offense… prove me wrong… To do so, you must show INTENT. Sorry, without that your statement is total nonsense. It should be obvious to anyone who’s not coked out, methed out, or old-fashioned mentally ill, that no coach who wanted to continue coaching would EVER sabotage their team. It’s so ludicrous that it’s comical.

Now let’s see how many paragraphs of incomprehensible crap this triggers. Hey buddy, before launching, maybe consider going for a walk or a taking a nice soothing bath to calm your nerves.

  88. NEfan Says:

sasquash, I’m not a guy that believes everyone is a deviant, every 45+ yr old white man is racist, all priests are pedies or all cops are bad but the more I think about it, Bowles sabotaging the season is a interesting concept. He has his contract and he may have prempted his stay just by using the excuse that he was forced to take BA’s personnel.

Look back at some if his comments, game management decisions. He may have resented the fact he was in BA’s shadow.

What HC in the league doesn’t converse with his QB in game? Cleveland really sticks out to me as well as the fake punt in Cincy game.

His lack of excitement and distance toward players is telling. I think he wanted the team on his terms and he’ll wait for it. If he won with a BA team, how could he possibly change that up without ridicule?

Things that make you go, hmmm!

  89. Anonymous Says:

    @NEfan

    Haha, nice shot.

So the question is why didn’t Brady snuggle up to Bowles instead of Leftwich?

Nope the question is why did Leftcrap sabotage Brady?

Nope. The question was why didn’t Brady try to save his legacy. The short answer is HE DID TRY!

    The long answer…..

I don’t think that’s why BL did it. Brady was an after thought to Leftwich. Not his primary target.

I think that his targets were Arians, Licht, and of course and Especially Bowles. But Not Brady. And I think that, THAT’S why Brady was desperately trying to get Leftwich on his side. Not only is Brady a TRUE competitor, but yes I’m pretty sure he was trying to protect his legacy. O yes. But Leftwich didn’t care “enough” to try to save or make Tom’s life any easier.

It sure looked to me that Tom was trying to play the best he could with what he had. You’ve got to admit that Tom looked increasingly desperate game after game. He looked HEART BROKEN for most of the season and if you think about it, you’d be heart broken to if you were in the middle of a freaking war and you were in no shape to actually mitigate it. For the first time in his life he found himself to be the lame duck.

I don’t think Tom had a chance and he knew it. Bowles, didn’t want him. Like you said. Or at least that’s how it sure looked. I’ve never seen a head coach not communicate much less at least “some” celebrating with their QB. Never. Not sure if that’s the right question concerning the SOB Leftwich.

I’m pretty sure Leftwich sacrificial lambed him. Tom was desperately trying to win him over the best he could. But like I said. The man (Leftwich) turns out the to be the type that would “sell his soul” just make a point. And he kinda did.

Well, I’m going to go with desperate. Think about it. For one, I think you’re right. Brady had No Love for Bowles and vice versa. And I’ve gotta think that was for good reason. All that you or I have to work with on that was the eye test. And the visuals were BAD! Brady was in a desperate situation (in my view) caught between family life and professional life. And it all became just too much. I don’t blame him AT ALL for checking out. NOT A BIT!

Ok cup cake. You can do better than that. Let’s talk Leftwich.

It maybe to big of a hill to climb. Just the little bit I threw out there is enough to stump almost anybody. That’s why nobody was actually stepping up with different answers. Just the usual nothing burger from the crowd. It’s a tough one to defend. Damn he looks guilty because he his. The whole league knows it and that’s why nobody’s giving him a shot anywhere. I mean come on. He just got done working with the greatest QB of ALL TIME for three ENTIRE SEASONS as Tom’s O freaking C , no less and NOBODY will even return his calls.?!

Like I said, the ONLY thing I can’t figure out is why they didn’t get rid of him and at least TRY to save the season and give TOM something to believe in.

Maybe I’m not getting an off chute of Tom trying to save Leftwich from himself. Leftwich WAS protected by somebody… actually wouldn’t put it past Tom to try. I don’t think there was ever a time in his career that he couldn’t make it happen UNTIL Leftwich. Tom looked desperate to have e fun. Not Leftwich. Leftwich always looked like he didn’t REALLY care (except once) or that he was jerked off. It also looked that Tom celebrated with Leftwich. Not the other way around. Go back and watch.

Or, Or, it was your buddy Arians that was protecting Benedict Arnold.

    You give up yet?

I won’t throw you under the bus if you do. And nobody’s going to come back and look at this old news.

Or do you want me to crush your hopes and dreams on a Leftwich hill?

I actually like your style anyways. You damn sure got guts. And to be honest I’d kinda miss you being around because AT LEAST you bring a different twist compared to most of the usuals and you keep it fairly interesting. I couldn’t even imagine running this site. I love to read the articles but the absolute clown show (which can be fun sometimes) but usually the same dribble from the same types gets boring. It must suck to be the moderator sometimes. I gotta say though, it was far more boring for many years before Brady came along. As far as volume. The conversations were better. A lot of white noise now.

“Actions speak louder than words. And this just reinforces that Bucs coach Todd Bowles made the smart move firing Leftwich. If there was a bad move by Bowles in coming to this decision, it is that it happened months too late.”

Uhh no?? Byron Leftwich was just fine when he was winning us a friggin SUPER BOWL with Bruce Arians as head coach, it was not until Todd bowels became our head coach that our top 5 scoring offense magically disappeared. Good Head coaches are able to fix the offense AND the defense. Todd Bowels is a terrible head coach because he RUINED an ALREADY WORKING offense. Then he used Byron leftwich as a scapegoat and fired him without accepting any accountability like a coward

  93. sasquatch Says:

he RUINED an ALREADY WORKING offense.

    * Arians’ absence exposed Leftwich’s incompetence.

    * Predictable. Opponents claimed they knew what play was coming as soon as they lined up. Commentators couldn’t make sense of Leftwich’s playcalling. Leftwich routinely failed to attack opponents’ weaknesses.

    * inability to scheme a running game. Historically bad running game. Bowles didn’t do that.

Leftwich failed to adapt without Daddy Bruce. That wasn’t Bowles’ fault.

  94. Buccano19 Says:

(After reading some of the earlier comments)

Lashing out & being racially presumptuous with objections about Leftwich’s scant attraction & linking that to the broader minority coach hiring concerns isn’t the best way to acquire the most sympathy. People need to understand, Bowles is a living example of a black head coach receiving a 2nd chance after finishing his last tenure with the Jets with 3 straight losing seasons. Lovie Smith is another example, who arrived in Tampa after getting fired by the Bears, then received a 3rd chance as the HC of the Texans after going 8-24 with the Bucs. Leftwich even received a HC offer last year, but foolishly rejected it. Leftwich frustrated many with his poor sequencing, poor ppg, aversion to motion/ play action, last ranked running game, lack of adjustments besides Brady going no huddle, & his overall stubbornness. This all happened without Bruce Arians as HC to guide & keep a check on him as in previous years. He was exposed & the lack of premier club interest in him strongly suggests they think he was way overrated on his own.

Things don’t need to immediately & always boil down to race every time fans are frustrated with someone or something bad happens to someone who happens to be black. Yes, there are cases where that’s true because racism still exists, but more often than not, people judge performance, not color. Let’s not also forget the fact that Leftwich was fired by Bowles, another black coach. Nathaniel Hackett & Urban Meyer, both NFL head coaches got canned after 1 year. Was racism a factor in their firings too or was it performance? Bowles wasn’t fired after his 4th consecutive losing season as an NFL HC. Was race a factor in him NOT getting fired? Some would say so. The racial minority coach hiring concerns throughout the league maybe a valid one, however. Jim Caldwell never got another chance after getting fired after going 9-7 his last 2 years in Detroit including a SB appearance as HC in his resume. Eric Bieniemy still hasn’t gotten a shot at HC which also baffles me. Perhaps Leftwich’s abysmal results without BA in the passenger seat is negatively affecting (albeit unfairly) Beiniemy’s prospects & increasing skepticism in him, assuming most credit to KC’s offensive success belongs to Andy Reid as in Arians’ case. And considering the wide pool of former players, many of whom are black with vast knowledge of the game are strangely & consistently passed up on, it’s strange, but perhaps that’s meant for a different time & discussion other than on a post that’s stomping on the grave of a really bad Bucs head coach who frustrated the fan base for far too long who happened to be black. The tone & content though has to be respectful & objective if you desire to attract compassion for your view point & grow it, otherwise you’ll strongly risk hardness, anger, & more suspected racial insensitivity. Pitchforks were out & the “good riddance”s were said to a number of loser Bucs coaches who got fired before & they happened to be white (Mike Smith & Greg Schiano come to mind). Did they forget that? To reiterate & lastly, people need to not be so quick to jump all over & down people’s throats about race every time a person who happens to be black is held accountable for bad performance without objective evidence. It’s exhausting, divisive, & counterproductive.

If an offense plays well, doesn’t mean the OC is amazing. Does anyone think Eric Spoelstra was a great coach when he had Lebron and won? Or became a bad coach when Lebron left? If Notre dame athletic director hires a bad head coach, but passes on Leftwich – why does that prove Leftwich sucks? It doesn’t. And if the idea is that teams prefer to lose with a white coach is dumb.

  99. Esteban85 Says:

The offense was clearly dysfunctional, terrible play calling once BA left. With a first ballot HOF in Brady we couldn’t muster even 20 points a game. Historically bad run game with decent backs and a decent line. Great wide outs and a great QB and no points and not enough wins. Of course it’s BL’s fault and of course he is the scape goat of a terrible year. Does that have anything to do with race? Not even a little.

The problem is our highly propagandized society is trained to see race in everything; furthermore, the propaganda machine has taught any “minority” class to see themselves as oppressed. It’s called critical theory and was employed by the likes of Mao Zedong. Now it’s called critical race theory. Just another Marxist ploy to divide our nation.
Stick to reality folks. Byron sucked this year, and Joe is just pointing out that the rest of the football world agrees that he does.

  100. Larrd Says:
