Kacy Rodgers: Will Gholston Has Earned Recognition

January 6th, 2023

Bucs DL Will Gholston.

So yesterday Joe brought word from NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger, a former Colts offensive lineman, who broke down Bucs’ run defense tape and highlighted Will Gholston’s play.

Baldinger heaped heavy praise on Gholston for being a sound technician and a man who shows up each week and does the dirty work.

Yesterday, it seemed Bucs defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers picked up the baton from Baldinger and sang Gholston’s praises.

“Well since I’ve walked in, Will has been the one who no one really writes a whole lot of articles about,” Rodgers said. “I’ve had [Ndamukong] Suh, I have [Vita] Vea, I have Akiem [Hicks] – nobody really talks about Will.

“But Will, two years ago, led our team in quarterback hits. He’s been ‘Steady-Eddy’ since he walked into the door. He comes to work every day, does everything that you ask of him and the tough part about him – we’ve been playing so much nickel or 11-personnel that he comes out because we’ve got Akiem and Vita, so he doesn’t get to play as much as other guys.

“He never says a word, just whatever you need, I’ll go do it. It’s a credit to him, to see him making the plays when his opportunity presents itself.”

Joe always likes to bring up how former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter referred to Gholston as a “glue guy.” A glue guy is a team cog that may not be a star but does everything right and teams can bank on him and build around him.

That seems to be the case with Gholston and Rodgers. Bucs coaches know they can depend on Gholston, who will be a free agent after the season.

Was it Ghostin that filled in for Hicks while he was out earlier in the season? Cause that dude didn’t do what he was supposta

If Dependable and durable are your best traits, you’re gonna play in the NFL for a longtime. There’s always room for guys like that.

Been a quiet year for him this year in terms of splash plays, but he played a wail of a game when it mattered most this Season.

    Dude’s stack-and-shed is pretty d@mn great too!

  3. Wombat Says:

Blue collar player who is invaluable. I don’t think he ever reached his peak as a player, but his longevity and availability make him a huge asset! He has risen to the call time and time again, glad he is a Buc!!!

  4. Goatfarmer Says:

Love this guy. He just keeps getting better, playing the best football of his career these last two games.

  5. Tim Says:

Totally agree about the “glue guy” moniker. Every team needs guys like Gholston. He needs to retire a Buc, and preferably Lavonte David as well.

Always been a big fan. Hope we get to see him retire in pewter and red when he’s ready.

  7. Daryl Green Says:

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🤙🏾 by far my favorite Buc.
He gets it. We need his voice right now.

  8. Proudbucsfan Says:

Being a glue guy is the best ever way to describe will Gholston. Unlike his cousin Vernon the top ten pick of the Jets a colossal bust, I’m sure Will has made his family proud like all the Buccaneers fans that love him. This franchise needs to offer him a last lucrative contract so he can retire a Buc, he deserves it.

  9. George Says:

Need a big game from him this weekend.
