Todd Bowles Gives Robert Hainsey Vote Of Confidence (So Far)

August 21st, 2022

Bucs center Robert Hainsey.

The newly established members in the Tampa Bay chapter of the JC Tretter fan club won’t like this.

Bucs coach Todd Bowles is good with second-year center Robert Hainsey as your starter. For now. Bowles admitted today in his day-after presser that he is somewhat happy with Hainsey’s development and Bowles doesn’t expect a new center to start Week 1 in Dallas.

Unless Hainsey gives Bowles a reason to change his mind.

“At the moment I am,” Bowles responded when asked if he was happy with Hainsey’s development. “If we have a good depth person out there that can come in here and help, we will definitely look at it.

“We are very pleased with where Hainsey is at.”

That doesn’t sound like a man staying up in the wee hours of the morning sifting through tape of centers throughout the league.

Joe guesses that in the past 15 hours or so, who may play left guard has jumped any concern over Hainsey on the totem pole of Bowles’ worries.

Cool story bro!! Who the Fu$$ is gonna play beside him??

  2. SKBucsFan Says:

He will be fine at Centre. I wouod be more worried about the LG position.

  3. Cobraboy Says:

Any thoughts of moving Hainsey to LG and bring in another veteran center? I know of one out there…

Not that I want this to happen…

  4. PassingThru Says:

What else is he going to say?

  5. George Says:

Sign JC Tretter and move Hainsey to Left Guard . Common sense

  6. Kody Says:

    I’d feel better with Tretter.

Yeah, and then move Hainsey to LG.

But RN I’m not loving the IOL. And I can’t imagine Brady will be once the first game starts.

OL is the biggest problem the Bucs have at this point.

  7. Bird Says:

Licht and brady will make that call very Soon. Bowles even admitted he was staying out of offense so his comment is ehhh. Hey if they can find a decent guard then yes ,hainsey will stay at center.

But what will be out there at guard. And i realize cuts coming. And that they could make trade like mankins.

Tretter is above average. Probably better then most guys out there. And he is FA. You sign him and still are pleased that hainsey plays left
Guard. Dont forget he got reps there before jensen went down

With that said….whats up with jensen. They said update coming this week. This week has come and gone. And I understand benefit of no IR now. But an update would be given if done for year.

  8. SufferingSince76 Says:

Bowles says whatever is convenient at the time. He’s not instilling confidence in this team. He’s bs’ing because he doesn’t know what to do about the offense.

  9. Beeej Says:

Glad we didn’t waste our remaining cap money on a center

  10. Bucsfan13 Says:

I’m glad people are now doubting us. We are no longer the favorite. People are so giddy that we lost some OL. They’ve been praying for Brady’s downfall. Be careful league…

  11. Yucs2Bucs Says:

When Sean Payton comes back next year the Glazers need to do whatever to get him to come to Tampa. If they make him coach and GM I’m
totally fine with that because Todd was only hired because he will stay out of 12s way this year, but what’s concerning is the Defense in my opinion under Bowles ( besides the SB run ) has mostly been horrible and with his blitz, blitz, blitz the secondary is going to get toasted Again !! They have a solid offense minus the obvious O line injuries and some good players on D, but hopefully this is a one year thing with Todd and then let a real coach come in and bring his guys to take over next season and beyond. I think we start off 1 and 3 and hopefully 10 wins can get us in the playoffs as long as we keep a 45 year old from getting seriously hurt. I lik Logan, Ko, and Otton, but besides that I think Licht whiffed on the O line. Yes it’s early, but watching practice and clips of the game Luke needs at least a year to learn because he’s been a huge disappointment so far. Shaq, Whirfs, Smith I have no worries about, but center and guard are going to get eaten up and I’ve had a bad feeling even prior to training camp and all the TB12 that he might not make it through the entire year ( if he comes back )
Just my thoughts because as a fan who has had 4 seats in the club section I don’t want to have to give tickets away prior to Tom coming like I did for years prior. Sadly it was hard to give them away and lastly number 53 has really impressed me and maybe we found LVDs replacement after this year? Go Bucs !!!

  12. captivajim Says:

SUFFERING is absolutely right.. the team has lost whatever confidence they had in a HC who is repeating the mistakes he made when he was a HC in NY .That didn’t end well — and it will not end well in Tampa.

  13. Bucsfan13 Says:

Hainsey is the team’s golden boy and was basically handed the C position, despite not taking a snap at the position in a game. This is pure favoritism by the team because he’s their pet project. Why not bring in a vet to challenge him? This has really angered me how they handled this OL situation. He’s smart and he works. Are those then only qualifications you need to get on the field? He is a try hard, but we need production on the field. He was getting bullied in practices and in preseason games.

  14. Bucamania Says:

So Stinnie pushed Hall into Jensen’s knee and then blows his own knee out. Crazy.

  15. Kody Says:

Hard to believe we lost 2 starting IOLineman in camp/preseason! It’s like last years injury curse is still haunting us. That Saints’ voodoo is powerful stuff.

  16. Adrnagy Says:

Keep him at center. Trade scotty a mid draft pick for a guard.

  17. Destinjohnny Says:

    Last years draft class…….

  18. Lakeland Steve Says:

Doesn’t look like there are any starting guards sitting around in free agency right now but there is a starting center. Why not bring him in and let him play Center and move Hainsey to guard which is a position he can play. Did Bowles see the same game we saw last night?

  19. Anonymous Says:

I’m a firm believer in moving around as few pieces as possible. Leave Hainsey at C and use your WR depth to trade for a G.

  20. steele Says:

Agree, BucsFan13. Hainsey is the golden boy. Total favoritism, longest leash ever, forgiven even when he underperforms. Unchallenged, annointed and assumptive starting center. Truth is, he remains a complete mixed bag at best.

If this is a completely rebuilding team for which a regular season is a low expectation practice session, the way the Bengals were (with their awful OL), and the Seahawks are right now, go ahead and start Hainsey and “see what happens”. But it isn’t.

It feels more and more like Bucs are giving Brady a Donald Rumsfeld. He’ll get the team he has, not the one he wants.

  21. Goatfarmer Says:

The world is about to be flooded with OL players with some talent, maybe didn’t get a fair shot, maybe were behind some impossible depth – by tomorrow at this time, a quality player may come available for cheap. If not, Licht swings the trade machete.

  22. BillyA Says:

Explain how someone who sat all last season and learned a position then dedicated his entire offseason to it is a golden boy? You’re a bunch of idiots that have no clue. Didn’t take a snap is crazy , not to mention none of you can tell me how many snaps Jensen took in his first year. Answer is simple, he started a total of 9 games in his first three NFL seasons. Had to become who he is just like Hainsey will. So tired of the bashing by a bunch of people who not only have no clue but could never do it themselves. Find another hobby because you all suck at this one.

Even if the sky was falling, you won’t see Bowles running around with his hair on fire. That’s no way to inspire confidence in the remaining starters. Stay calm, next man up.

  25. Goatfarmer Says:

It is good that most of us ate yammering here and not inside One Buc Placenta.

  26. Goatfarmer Says:

    Stupid autocorrect.

  27. Ninety9buc Says:

    Billy A!!

Totally agree. Hainsey is working hard trying to earn the job.
The “Golden Boy” reference is comical. The guy has been training all offseason with one of the former Bruce Arian’s system (offensive line) guys, AQ Shipley.

Apparently he’s made huge strides adjusting to the center position.

  28. jimm Says:

and played center all last year going against our 1st team defense, vita and suh , that’s not practice and paying some dues?
