Jason Licht, Bruce Arians Say They Have Eight Potential Starting Quarterbacks On Their Board

March 1st, 2022

“Eight” might really be three, Bruce Arians explains.

Joe had to ask today at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

How many potential 2022 Bucs starting quarterbacks are on the secret big board at One Buc Palace? Factoring in trades, free agents, etc., how many guys are on the “possible” QB list?

Bucco Bruce Arians got the question first and said, “about eight.”

“Trades, trades are just out of the question, I think,” Arians continued. “You gotta have a partner. These guys aren’t just willingly calling, ‘You want my guy?’ Who’s behind Door No. 2 for them? You know, so I don’t see very many of these guys getting traded. There might be one, max two, of guys we think can take us to the Super Bowl. I don’t see guys giving up quarterbacks unless they have a really good No. 2 sittin’ on their bench, you know, because this draft is a little thin.”

Joe asked general manager Jason Licht the same question, and Licht also said eight.

Joe also asked Licht whether the rumored/potential trade market for starting quarterbacks is bigger what’s really happening when team executives are talking. Licht said it definitely is.

Man, Joe would love a photo of that big-board ranking under lock and key at One Buc Palace.

Bucs are so desperate. They are “leaving the light on for TB” also Bruce Arrogance says they won’t accommodate Brady WHEN/IF He decides to come back. Show’s what truly a Sh4tshow One Buc is. These guys are like when a girl breaks up with you and then you pray she gives you another chance or you get pissed she did. LOLOL
MOVE ON and be Men about it BA & JL.

  2. New England Patriots Fan Says:

There is clearly hurt feelings, on the retirement and how it occurred. Because if he was truly retired the easy awnser any TB question is Tom is retired he was clear with us in out conversations he is not coming back to play in the NFL, he is completely committed to retiring and at his age a return is not possible beyond 2022.

Its odd Tampa themselves don’t seem to sure he is retired.

When you have 8 QBs, you don’t have any…..

  4. Buc92’ Says:

8 on the board , a deal already done with one , u heard it here yours truly Buc92 lol

    GoBucs!

  5. Lord Cornelius Says:

All I know is I’m now tapping back into the off-season news / draft hard after taking it easy the last 2 seasons. Tom has been a gift from the gods but I have Arians back. Mike Florio seems to really have it out for him from any narrative he’s pushed the last year or so.

Thank you Joe for the continued coverage. I went to the Eagles game despite it destroying my wallet but it was totally worth it for the memories. Hopefully the wife and I can make a JBF event sometime . After living in Denver 8 years and moving back last year I couldn’t be happier with the decision. Also St Pete really is amazing. I grew up in Tampa in the 90s/early 2000s so a lots definitely changed!

    Go Bucs!

  6. Tye Says:

‘trades out of the questions’ then what 8 free agent could he be referring to…

    Blaine Gabbert (knows the offense)
Carson Wentz (if he gets release)
    Andy Dalton
    Teddy Bridgewater
    Marcus Mariota
    Mitch Trubisky

Beyond that it drastically drops off from there.. YES! that includes the turnover machine Winston… Might as well start Trask… He may turn it over less!

  7. SlyPirate Says:

Eight. Okay. Let’s see if we can name them …

    1. Gabbert
    2. Trask
    3. Watson
    4. Wentz
    5. Garoppolo
    6. Cousins
    7. Bridgewater
    8. Rodgers
    9. Wilson

    9 is “about 8”.

  8. BUCman Says:

Buddy what were you watching???? First of all Arians is a class act. He is not arrogant! There are about 25 other teams that would gladly take him over their head coach situation. Secondly, He absolutely said he WOULD accommodate Brady if he were to come back. Your not Ben green in disguise are you? Sure sounds like it. Obviously you have a lot of pent up anger affecting your judgement because the Bucs organization from top to bottom is one of the best. From the Glazer’s as owners to Jason Licht as GM to Arians at HC we as Buc fans are pretty lucky. Have you looked around at other franchises lately. Also, saying your leaving the light on for Brady does not mean your desperate, it’s just common sense. After watching the press conferences, more than ever I have faith that we are in good hands.

I’d say you can eliminate Rodgers, Sly. He’s under contract yet in GB. Local radio and other sources say that the boys up north are going to keep him. Which is hilarious to make fun of my Packers friends since they wasted their first round pick on Jordan Love. I can confirm the dichotomy of Packers fans in the homeland regarding Favre and Rodgers with the latter being extremely disliked by the fan base, but I digress… He ain’t leaving Wisconsin, I’d be astounded if he did.

  10. allbuccedup Says:

Eight OK lets see: Gabbert,Trask, Luck, Palmer, Griffin, Newton, Donald and Winston.

  11. Tony Says:

    1. Gabbert
    2. Trask
    3. Roethlisberger
    4. Kaepernick
    5. Manziel
    6. Luck
    7. Palmer
    8. B. Johnson
    9. Garcia
    10. Freeman
    11. Dilfer
    12. King
    13. Peyton
    14. Eli
    15. Vick
    16. RG3
    17. Bradford
    18. B. Griese
    19. Plummer
    20. Leaf
    21. Russell
    22. Young
    23. Brunell
    24. Leftwich
    25. Captain Fear

    Our 25 options at QB.😀

  12. BUCman Says:

I just watched the interview Arians did stating there are eight guys on their board as potential starters. He first states that there are just two guys (presumably Trask & Gabbert). Then he is asked how many there are if you include people you would have to trade for. That’s when he says eight. So at that point he’s adding the very unrealistic options of Rogers, Wilson, Watson, Murray, Carr, & Cousins. He then said those are not true options because the other side has to be willing to part with their guy. He clearly is NOT considering any of the other available free agents such as Bridgewater, Trubisky Winston, etc. They are moving forward with TRASK as QB1 and Gabbert as QB2 and concentrating on re-signing as many of our free agents as possible.

  13. Que5 Says:

    1. Deshaun Watson
    2. Garoppolo
    3. Kenny Pickett
    4. Malik Willis

  14. Tony Says:

I’d have more faith in starting somebody from in the stands right now over Gabbert & Trask. I don’t think Trask is ready & of course Gabbert is nothing special. Unless he seems to have some magical run during this point of his career.

  15. buddy Says:

@BUCman you’re kidding right? TEAM GLAZER is a absolute joke as owners. MGlazer now thats a different story. But the 3 Stooges and Horseface are terrible.
As for other coaches… lets see I’d take Pete Carroll, A Reid, Sean Mcvay, Doug Pederson, Mike Tomlin, Bill B in New England, right off the top of my head cause they all have as many or more super bowl wins than Bruce Arrogance. Then Ron Rivera, Kyle Shanahan, Mike Mccarthy also & he has same number of super bowl wins as your hero in the ridiculous hat BA. Thats 9 as good or better than your boy. So your 25 more coaches over him is not correct. BA is ready to Retire AGAIN- before he gets exposed for what he really doesn’t do. So how dare he not want to allow TB12 to come back—HE DID!!!!

  16. Anonymous Says:

I agree with the fan who said having eight QB’s is the same as having none.

  18. Joe in Michigan Says:

Did the “Horseface” comment give “buddy” away as being Swamptard under a different name? 🤔

  19. Brandon Says:

Nobody is going to mention one of the eight that is most obvious? Jacoby Brissett

    1 Gabbert
    2 Trask
    3 Wentz
    4 Winston
    5 Brissett
    6 Trubisky
    7 Watson
    8 Garropolo
    9 Bridgewater

  20. D-Rok Says:

I was really impressed with QB2 on the Ravens – Huntley, is it? Of course, he isn’t a pocket-passer, but was impressed nonetheless. Wonder if the Ravens would give him up? (Just thinking out loud here/speculating).

    GO BUCS!!
