Chris Godwin Now At “45 Percent”

March 1st, 2022

Chris Godwin

Lots of love flowing for Pro Bowl receiver Chris Godwin today at the NFL Scouting Combine and some good news.

For Joe, the best news was that none of the Buccaneers’ power players mentioned that Godwin had any kind of a setback after his major knee surgery (ACL).

Joe asked Bucco Bruce Arians for a status report on Godwin, and Arians said, “From what I here, about 45 percent.” Joe took that as Godwin being 45 percent back to normal.

The head coach added that Godwin has been rehabbing some at One Buc Palace but also offsite.

Arians would prefer not to franchise Godwin again (nearly $20 million for 2022) and hopes they can work out a deal instead, he said. Neither he nor general manager Jason Licht took that option off the table.

Licht said he almost couldn’t imagine the team without Godwin’s presence.

Joe is confident Godwin will return in 2022 — unless he expresses a personal desire to move on.

“Chris is so valuable to what we do,” Arians said. “Obviously, we really, really, want him back.”

  2. Mike Says:

He needs to be a Buc for his whole career, much like a Hines Ward type.

Coming back quicker every year from this type of injury

And godwins hot wife is an actual trainer. Doubt he would miss much of amy games this year …maybe just a couple if any

Technically has almost 6 months for further healing / strengthening

    What does even 45% mean?

    Walking, jogging, weightlifting?

Does 45% mean he’s on pace to participate during training camp or midseason?

    I’m not getting a lot from 45%.

Some of you are SOOO quick to turn on the SAME PLAYERS/COACHES that you all , this time last year , crap even a few months ago , were saying they are the best in Bucs history !! Bandwagon fans .. Now you try to find any little thing to complain about . Just remember what we had before BA and company came to town. A DECADE OF WASTED TALENT AND GARBAGE TEAMS FROM GARBAGE COACHES IS WHAT I REMEMBER WATCHING !! Ohh , but you were probably the one’s who didn’t watch the Bucs during that time so you don’t remember … Can’t win EVERY GAME AND EVERY SUPER BOWL ! BUT IT SURE HAS BEEN GREAT TO WATCH THE LAST FEW YEARS AND I LOOK FORWARD TO WHATEVER THE BUCS DO GOING FORWARD !! GO BUCS AND GO BACK TO WATCHING GOLF OR THE NBA TO ALL YOU FAKE FAN’S

The issue is going to be that yearly salary average. With the cap going up next season, it’s not unreasonable to expect, on average, that Godwin could make like $22m/year on average if he gets a next contract next year. So if you’re Godwin, why would you sign a longterm deal if you’re being offered like $17m/year. This is why it was so bad to not get a deal done last offseason.

Regardless if the Bucs had to franchise Godwin, that would put a real dent in trying to keep guys this year, since if you get Godwin on a longterm deal, you’re probably only talking like $5m, maybe $7m, cap hit this season, and $13m-15m goes a long ways towards resigning other guys, with an s.

Him and Mike should be Bucs for life.

We’re bringing back Jensen, Cappa, Stinnie, and Godwin. We’re going to give whoever our starting QB is, Blaine Gabbert, a fighting chance. I think we go edge, DT, in any order early in the draft, and let JPP, Suh walk. Jensen, Gabbert, Stinnie, Godwin, Gholston, Cappa, I’d say are the only locks to come back. We can tag Davis.

Got a quarterback suggestion that I believe would be a great fit for one he is still able to play at a high level proven winner well rested has paid a high price for standing up for what he believes in which is unfortunate, How about someone pick up a phone and reach out to Colin Capernick bet a price within cap space could be done would be very interesting to see got the weapons just need someone with talent to get talent the ball and I think Cap would be that talent. Why not give him a invite to mini camp and let him compete for the job. The Buccaneer s have experience when it comes to taking a chance on a player with history.how about make some history
