“Don’t Think It Would Have Gone That Way”

March 13th, 2022

Bucco Bruce Arians

Joe supposes some Bucs fans (not many) are disappointed in Tom Brady’s return because they would have preferred Tampa Bay traded for creepy, massage-loving quarterback Deshaun Watson.

And Joe suspects those fans will get really loud in 2023 if Brady retires and Watson is slinging it successfully for the Panthers. (Yeah, there are always a few of those wacky types out there.)

But were the Bucs prepping to trade for Watson this week? Like the Saints and Panthers are?

Based on reporting at TampaBay.com tonight, it seems the Bucs may never have been legitimately in the game. Or so Bucco Bruce Arians implied.

Arians had never been optimistic about acquiring Watson. “Don’t think it would’ve gone that way,” he said.

Joe’s just glad Brady is back and the 2022 starting quarterback won’t be named Gabbert or Trask or Bridgewater or Watson or Mayfield. And Joe’s so happy for all the Bucs-loving parents from Lakeland to Largo who didn’t have to pull their kids aside and explain Watson’s sleazy baggage.

    NEWSFLASH:

This team isn’t going anywhere with the same Defense, even if they’re all healthy.

Please please please let some other team sign Davis. And please let the Bucs throw in SMB & Dean as free bonuses.

Unless we upgrade our corners and add a little pass rush help, this team is not even getting back to the NFC Championship.

Our Defense is WEAKSAUCE. Everyone overhyped the “Gravediggers” after they beat up on a hurt Packers O-Line and then a hurt Chiefs O-Line.

As evidenced against the Rams, they didn’t do squat against Noteboom. And the defensive backs got lit up all game until we had some miracle turnovers almost made a crazy comeback.

If 2 of the 3 (Davis, SMB, Dean) start this season THE SEASON IS ALREADY OVER.

    YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST.

Any fan who would have preferred Watson to Brady should go ahead and check themselves into the nearest psychological treatment facility. Seriously, what idiot?

I’m thrilled we don’t have to face the prospect of being ashamed of having a scumbag creep as our QB.

  3. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

I put a lot of what happened with the defense at the end of the season on the DC. Yes you Bowles

  4. Tbbucs3 Says:

In addition to being a sleaze bag….People are also drastically overrating him. First of all he’s been away from the game for a significant amount of time and is likely to come back rusty and in his so called “great year” in 2020 the Texans went 4-12 the same # of wins David Mills put up last year.

  5. Pewter Power Says:

We know what Brady can do and we know he’s at the end of his career or close to the end. I wanna to see if trask has developed. Not because I believe in him if just prefer Brady replacement be in house on the cheap rookie contract with a high ceiling. Getting a quarterback in free agency always comes at a high price tag unless you are trying to build the roster and it’s a stop gap guy

  6. Anonymous Says:

Just excited for another run. Hopefully the cap guru can make a miracle happen

a lot of us fans were starting to think desperately…

it happens after life without tommy b…

like desperate junkies feinding for a qb…

but now since we’ve all had a dose of his retirement, we will be better prepared for it as it comes…

and also a 3 year run in tampa is all we can ask for – if he gifts us more, so be it…

i was calling him a “short stay guest at the buccaneers hotel” at one point – but 3 years in the not for long league is a fair amount of time for him to have brought his talents to tampa imho

  15. OBVIOUS Says:

Joe, I’m wondering if I had called it right when I said that it “might be the long game” being played by “masters of the art of deception”? If there is a possibility of me to have been right, (not that I’m claiming I was right because I’m not sure of the “why” I would have been unless it has something to do with the cap manipulation). Joe, I Believe that your insight is a far more educated guess than mine so with that said, what do you see here?
I simply don’t have enough info or inside track to call it. Tampa didn’t move “except” to make sure to retain Godwin and they haven’t seemed very excitable or concerned when speaking of our QB situation. It seems like some sort of a play. What do you think is or has been going on here???

    GO BUCS!

  16. JimmyJack Says:

Could care less if Watson has a good year. Its all about the long game when your trading away tons of assets for him.

If he rips off 5 big time seasons in a row with the same team Ill be impressed. But that requires a creep keeping his disgusting urges under control and that is not a safe bet.

Either way if you want Watson over Brady you got your own set of problems.

  17. lambchop Says:

    @BradyBucs,

Lay off the pipe. We had a lot of injuries and still were in the playoffs. This team will retool the defense, but stop thinking last year’s team wasn’t handcuffed by injuries.

  18. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

I’m just so happy Tom is back! That’s who I always wanted. Great to be a season ticket holder again! Our defense will definitely be retooled but let’s be honest this is an offense league now. We just need some changes on defense and we will be fine. Go Bucs!

  19. David Says:

Hey, I was all in to let a lot of the older free agents and their cash walk if it meant they could get a franchise quarterback who is only 26 years old and sign him for the next decade… But I’ll take one more year of Brady over anyone else!!

BradyBruce smart I thought I wrote what he said lol

  21. Goatfarmer Says:

Thank you Jason and BA, you lads run the team and evaluate the talent. Not some Pasco County genius who wants to cut the entire starting CB group without a solution to replace then with better and under the salary cap.

  22. Posey99 Says:

Brady at a man United game, in the glazers box maybe? Did the glazers have a hand in this?

  23. Rod Munch Says:

I don’t think any of the Watson fans are going to be doing the whinning, but I guarantee some of the Florida fanbois will be, they’re the ones telling everyone, with no evidence, that Trask was a future 1st ballot HOF, he’d take the team to the SB, etc, lots of really stupid things.

If any of those Trask fans haven’t slit their wrists and are reading this — you should be very happy, this gives Trask another year to learn how to throw an NFL football with velocity. This is, by far, the best thing that could happen to Trask, to spend another year learning and practicing.

  24. firethecannons Says:

Watson is a good quarterback–I was on board with a Watson deal

also would love to see Kyle Trask play but preseason is adequate for now

on board with Tom Brady for 2022 and hopefully 2023

    “Tampa community from a menace!”

Mad respect to Tampa Bay. Thank you GOAT. Signed Jensen. Let’s get that Brady wormhole goin. Just signed Jensen.

  27. Swanee22 Says:

@ Rod… Trask is the future,,,, He maybe a HOF one day years from now. Trask threw for more yards than any college football player in the country that season, before he was drafted.. But another year behind Brady will benefit him well. But in 2022 season Brady will lead us to another division championship. Hopefully he will stay healthy and make a legitimate run in the NFC playoffs.

  28. steele Says:

Totally agree, BradyBucs. The defense is in need of a serious reset. I think the bulk of this offseason should now be invested in making the D far, far tougher.
The offense is already partway there, but the D is trouble. Need a bunch of stud pass rushers, inside and out. Need a shutdown corner like JC Jackson or Steph Gilmore, and in the draft.

  29. RustyRhinos Says:

“Baggage”? Is that like a former QB’s “Little Hassle” in AZ? That was way overblown….or so we read right here on these very pages.

  30. View from 132 Says:

Huge mistake. Brady may be the best ever, but in the next 10 years, Watson gives you a chance to stay at the top.

  31. Goatfarmer Says:

Watson proved that without a supporting cast, he’s good for 4 or 5 wins. Check the Texans record.

For him to be a Buc, you’d have to gut the rest of the team to afford his contract, not to mention his leadership (?) style would have a big red flag on it after Tom.

This has to be the time to let Blaine Gabbert finish his underachieving career anywhere but Tampa, and let the Gator kid be number 2 on the depth chart. Hopefully he doesn’t play like number 2 on the field.

Sign Griff again to be number 3.
