Ryan Jensen Returns For 2022

March 13th, 2022

UPDATED: 11:57 p.m. – Towels and baby powder for everyone!

Tom Brady announced his 2022 return today, so it’s fitting that his center locked down a deal to come back to the Bucs on the very same day.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter is reporting that Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen will not hit the free agency market tomorrow and will return for his fifth season in pewter and red. Reserve guard Aaron Stinnie, who made three starts in the 2020 postseason at right guard, was re-signed last week.

Ali Marpet retired, so hopefully Stinnie can fill that hole and the Bucs can scrape up the nickels to return starting right guard Alex Cappa, who is also set to be a free agent this week.

Nothing is more important than keeping Brady upright.

As for the opening paragraph, Brady is well known for ordering Jensen to maintain a ritual of shoving dry towels and powder down his ass so Brady never receives a sweaty football.

It’s a three-year, $39 million deal for Jensen. Presumably, very little of that will count against the 2022 salary cap.

I seriously woke up this Sunday morning asking myself ā€œwho the eff is going to be the Bucs qb next season? How many players are we losing tomorrow?ā€

12 hours later, I feel much better about the future. I hope the Bucs can bring back as many free agents as possible all while developing Bradys replacement because this not knowing who the qb was going to be thing sucked donkey balls!

  9. adam from ny Says:

so there will be no barbecues held in cincinnati this year ???

  12. Leopold Stotch/BuccaneerButters Says:

    What a glorious day!

  13. ATLBuc Says:

We went from getting ready to give up 3 first rounders and a starter to getting the goat and some key free agents back. Grunke is coming back. Now we need Davis and Fournette to come back

  14. David Says:

    D A M N !!

I did not realize they re-signed Stinnie last week!
Hopefully Ali Marpetā€™s phone is ringingā€¦ nonstop!!

To all the LICHT hatersā€¦ no cap space and heā€™s getting it done again!!

So grateful to him and this coaching staff.

    LFG!!!

  15. adam from ny Says:

now let’s say hello to one leonard fournette…

    aka playoff lenny…

    aka lombardi lenny…

    aka button…

right about now it’s time get lenny in the building asap

  16. JimmyJack Says:

Gronk next then Leonard. After that lets push around some morey $$$ sign Von Miller and P.Peterson.

Gronk and Suh are both counting against the CAP so you can sign them with similar deals and doesnt hurt the CAP, at least i think.

Then tell JPP to heal up and bring him back with his hair on fire in Nov.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  17. David Says:

    ATLBUC

I canā€™t possibly see them being able to keep Davis with the cash heā€™ll be commanding. Lennyā€¦ Maybe. But he will have to give them a break and with Brady returning, he just may

Whitehead is a big one along with Gholston.

I think Davis, JPP &SUH are gone unless one of those D Liman give a big discount

  18. David Says:

Jimmy Jackā€¦ I would absolutely love JPP back if he is healthy and ready to go. At his age with all his injuries though, thatā€™s a mighty big if.

Some of the language about him over the last month seemed like heā€™s not coming back.

  19. adam from ny Says:

ali right about now is saying to himself:

“hey it wasn’t supposed to go like this!”

  20. adam from ny Says:

    ali’s like:

“hey it wasn’t scripted like this!…wtf just happened!”

  21. BucsFan81 Says:

Let the re structuring begin. Time to free up cap space and get everyone back.

  22. Bryan Says:

Great Day. Marpet not coming back. Already confirmed by WDAE as of today after TB announcement.

  23. MadMax Says:

We’re keeping Whitehead and Gholston….no dmn doubt about that!!!

  24. Caleb Lee Says:

Now the question is will the big ukelele wielding Marpet want in on the reunion?

  25. SKBucsFan Says:

    The Brady effect is real!

  26. westernbuc Says:

    Thank god lol

  27. bucschamp Says:

    gronk, Lenny come back

  28. Francisco Guzman Says:

Need Marpet to come back .

  29. adam from ny Says:

ali worked his who life for this and he’s gonna sit back playing a ukulele and rocking donovan’s old shoes when he can be out there capturing another ring with the boys?…

sounds like a simple trade for a few brain cells…

    a personal note to ali:

    nothing can replace glory…nothing…

not money, cars, women, wine…nothing…not even brain cells… šŸ™‚

no one can ever take glory from you…ever

and you too are getting older with a tiny closing window…

so get out there and rock with the squad big guy…

oh yeah, and you also get like an easy 10 mil which many don’t accrue in a lifetime

  30. tampabuscsbro Says:

Guys Marpet already said no when asked. This was always his plan to play for these years after he got his contract. He did, He wants to retire now.

I want him back too it just isn’t happening guys.

  31. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Now do Gronk, Lenny, CD24, Kappa and get JuJu

  32. adam from ny Says:

we might need a signed petition of 100k people to get marpet un-retired…

my above plee wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t that good either

  33. Goatfarmer Says:

Tomorrow will be an unproductive day in the workplace with all these hungover Bucs fans. I know Iā€™m still drinking.

  34. Bucfan1988 Says:

    Thoughts on free agency guysā€¦

If we canā€™t get Whitehead resigned, snag Tyrann Mathieu from Chiefs!!!! Arians drafted him in AZ and they have awesome relationship!!

If we canā€™t get Davis resigned, Iā€™m thinking snag either Patrick Peterson (another Arians draft pick) or grab James Bradberry then draft corner!!

If we canā€™t get Suh resigned, snag Calais Campbell OR draft that 340 Lb monster from Georgia in 1st round that killed the NFL combine!!! Put them right next to Vea then we solidā€¦

As for OLB, not thinking JPP now. I wonder if Chandler Jones would come play with his former QB at New England for cheap??? He & Shaq would be a force!!

My thoughts for the day šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

  35. FortMyersDave Says:

LFG, wow, what is next. Ali Marpet decides to come back for a year????? So what do the Bucs and TB12 want to do in the draft now?

  36. adam from ny Says:

    interesting scenario:

obviously jensen and TB jumped on a quick phone call…

jensen heading into free agency was about to sign a 3 year 40-45 mil + type deal…

don’t you think he said to tom, “hey how long do you plan to stay?”…

because if tom said he’s just here for a year, wouldn’t jensen just bounce on out of here to his final big contract…

maybe tom told jensen to stay because he will be here at least a couple more seasons…

    just something to think about…

because if he asks jensen to stay and protect him for a year, and to ignore a big 3 year deal elsewhere, wouldn’t he be potentially screwing over jensen with his finances…

just a thought…maybe guys are going to stick around because he’s back for a couple more seasons…

all these guys aren’t going to bypass on big multi year deals for mega riches to get one more year with tom, and to get one more ring – they got one already – so money should be most of their initial motivators and a 2nd ring with tom is after that…

so maybe tom is planning to stick around for more than a minute, and guys will return to join the party

  37. Rod Munch Says:

Now get on the phone with Marpet, tell him he can play his ukulele all summer, only has to show up 3 weeks before the season starts.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

If you want some phone, you can go read some Bengals’ blogs (yep, they exist) and you’ll see them all crying and whining, thinking Jensen to them was a done deal. I love how, when you read in reverse order, they talk about how Brady unretiring won’t change things, Jensen to Cincinnati is a done deal. I don’t have any ill will towards the Bengals, I have no feelings at all towards them, but it’s still entertaining when any fanbase is crying.

  39. Duane Says:

WOW. How fortunes turn so quickly. I was entering the acceptance phase of the Goat retirement process, and now TB12 and his Black Belt buddy are back. Magical times indeed Buc fans… LFG!

  40. Buczilla Says:

    Hell yes!

  41. ModHairKen Says:

Angry Red!!! Back for one more. This team is on a Mission from God.

  42. steele Says:

Convince Marpet to un-retire. Add OL depth in the draft.

Sign James Conner or Raheem Mostert to replace Lenny. Key Vaughn should be fine. Check James White’s health, and if he’s 100%, sign Sweet Feet to provide Brady his familiar pass-catching back. If White is hobbled, look for a similar back.

Gronk has to come back (come on big guy, do it), but still they’ve got some work to do here, draft+ veteran. Brate must improve or out. Consider Hayden Hurst or Ross Dwelley for a #2.

At WR, Brady is in need of a Julian Edelman slot type. Christian Kirk, perhaps.

  43. steele Says:

After restructuring contracts, I want to see the wallets opened up for some free agent pass rushers. There are a bunch out there: Chandler Jones and Von (the two luxury items) (I hate Von on an opposing team, but can’t deny), Melvin Ingram, Jerry Hughes, Justin Houston, Ogbah, Clowney, Akiem Hicks…

  44. Carlos Says:

    Go Bucs,wonderfull news
    Brady is the best

  45. HC Grover Says:

Brady Bat Signal bright tonight over Ray Jay.

  46. Rod Munch Says:

    JimmyJack Says:
Gronk and Suh are both counting against the CAP so you can sign them with similar deals and doesnt hurt the CAP, at least i think.

    ——

Their deals were done using void years, so I’m not actually sure how that impacts the cap, if you can just push them back a year or not. I’ve never actually heard or read a good explanation of how void years work, they’re not something I had ever heard of before last year.

  47. Bird Says:

Jensen , suh and gronk were prolly on fence if they would play another year.
Brady just sold the deal for them

I am guessing all 3 will make one more run at a title.
Hope suh understands its for less money this time cause sounds like bucs do want speed on inside to sack qb. And not just stop run

  48. Bucs Guy Says:

Bad news: Marpet not unretiring. Lenny still headed to FA. Godwin still not signing a longg term contract.
    Uncertain: What will Cappa do?
Good news: Gronk is coming back.
Best news: Licht has seen the future, knows who will stay and who will depart when Brady retires for real and can plan accordingly. Wipe the big board clean in the draft room. Bucs aren’t adjusting the O for a new QB and drafting based on that.

  49. Onetrickpony Says:

Bucsfan1988 that 340 lb from Georgia UGA is Jordan Davis he is a freakin beast

  50. DaBux Says:

    Let’s just LFG.

  51. Bird Says:

Gronk will be next domino to fall

Brady called him up and just said the word ā€œtuddyā€
    Gronk responded ā€œon my way.ā€
Gronk is a fl boy now – beach babes and booze

  52. BelleGladeBuc Says:

Davis is a beast from Georgia, who I would love for the Bucs to draft, but he will probably be gone when the Bucs pick.

BA said he wanted more speed at DT and another Georgia defensive lineman with a lot of speed, and who is more likely to be available at #27 is Devontae Wyatt.

  53. JGhotier Says:

Thank goodness šŸ™ we were in danger of losing both our enforcers on Offense and Defense in Jensen and Whitehead. That culture and attitude stuff thatā€™s intangible and adds extreme value throughout the team. This is great news. Get your baby powder (šŸæ) ready!

  54. Ryan Jensenā€™s Hair Says:

    Wellllllllā€¦. What a day yesterday! #LFG

  55. Jeff Says:

2 days ago there was zero hope and the Bucs weā€™re facing years of losing with zero legit prospects at QB. Now, the Bucs are favored to win the division and have a chance at a SB. Amazing! Kudos to the Glazers for making this happen

  56. Goatfarmer Says:

My head hurts. My feet stink. And Iā€™m not depressed anymore.

And for all the conspiracy loving dorkasauruses who spewed how BA drove Brady away, this hangoverā€™s for you!

  57. tampabayallday Says:

SO HAPY ALL THIS WATSON TALK IS OUT THE DOOR!

  58. Mike Johnson Says:

Agree with you here Chris Applegate. Go get Calias Campbell for our D. Sign the man!
