New Season, Career Highs For Will Gholston

December 26th, 2021

Huge day. Big year.

With Lavonte David on injured reserve with a bad foot, the longest-tenured Buccaneer is versatile defensive lineman Will Gholston and Joe couldn’t be happier for what he delivered today.

With 2 1/2 sacks in the win against Carolina, Gholston now has 4 1/2 for the season, which is his career high. With Rakeem Nuñez-Roches on the COVID list, Gholston was bound to see more action today, and he made the most of it against an overmatched offensive line.

It’s impressive how Gholston seems to be a guy who continues to develop year after year. Dude is a nine-year veteran and truly defines “late bloomer.” Along the way he hasn’t missed a game since 2017.

Not-so quietly, Gholston has become a critical free agent to re-sign this offseason.

Yeah, the Bucs have too many injuries, including a fresh knee issue today for Shaq Barrett. But they also have guys on the rise like Gholston, Jordan Whitehead and offensive players, as well.

The Bucs’ depth is getting tested, and it earned a solid A+ today.

Lunch pail guy. Every team needs guys just like him to glue everything together.

  6. Swampbuc Says:

I’ve always felt he had it in him. What a great teammate. A glue guy as Koetter said

Jordan was a beast out there today! I lived the loop around Will made on his sack. If the secondary could cover more like they did on that play the defense would cause more problems.

the “will and whitehead” show today…

    good job guys!

Gholston, ME13 and LVD, three very good/great players who stuck it out with this team through numerous HCs getting fired plus a GM. I have rooted for Whitehead since his preseason games. Other teams better start paying attention cos the Bucs Defense is getting healthy .Joes: am I correct, 12 sacks in the last 2 games?

  10. Austin Says:

With Suh, Vea, and Will, we are sitting around 1000 pounds of defensive linemen lol huge dudes clogging holes

  11. An Erection for Sacks Says:

WG92 has completely erased the stigma associated with his surname started by Vernon Gloston’s (WG92’s cousin) bust status, drafted 6th overall in 2008 and out of the league three years later.

WG92 is a favorite of mine. He gets better every year. I, too, hope that he gets another contract from the Bucs.

  12. David Says:

Gholston is fantastic against the run and decent against the pass. They must resign him and get themselves another young DT because I don’t think Suh will be around much longer. Besides, Suh hasn’t done much besides flash occasionally this year
