More Evidence Tom Brady Turned Around The Bucs

December 14th, 2021

Franchise-changer.

Pretty telling stuff from Bucs receiver Breshad Perriman to SI.com in the wake of his winning touchdown Sunday to beat Buffalo in overtime.

Joe — only half-jokingly and maybe even less than half — types often how Bucs fans had battered child syndrome or PTSD from all the losing in the post-Chucky era. It got to the point that fans expected to lose. Once a team started marching on them in a one-score game late, Bucs fans felt like they knew what was coming.

Why? Because it happened week after week after week for all but two seasons from 2009-2019. The Bucs found ways to lose, found ways to melt down, found ways to collapse.

Perriman, who was here for Bucco Bruce Arians’ first season in 2019, tells Albert Breer of SI.com that while the Bucs have many players from that year, the entire mindset of the team is so much better.

Perriman noticed this when the Bucs choked away a 24-3 lead Sunday. During the Lost Decade, if the Bucs gagged away a three-touchdown lead, the game was over. But that’s not the vibe he sensed on the sidelines.

Perriman… is still new (this is his second month with the Bucs, and Sunday was his second game dressing for the team in 2021), in the way Brady kept his offensive teammates engaged Sunday as the lead slipped away. And it showed up in what Perriman noticed most about the team—that they believed throughout that they were going to win the game, regardless of how sketchy it might’ve gotten. “The energy and the confidence and the swag, now it’s on 10, like you can feel it,” Perriman said. “It’s pretty much contagious, and you can feel it, and it’s really night and day from anywhere that I’ve ever been. And especially night and day from when I was there [as a Buccaneer] in ’19. So yeah, it’s been crazy.”

Joe recalls a member of Arians’ family took to social media late in the 2021 season when it appeared the Bucs were playoff-bound and sort of scolded Bucs fans for not believing, having the nerve to think somehow the roof would still cave in.

What else would someone expect? Bucs fans regularly got kicked in the nuts for over a decade! That’s not even factoring the thousands of dollars fans invested each year to go to games only to have a warm Miller Lite thrown in their face from the garbage football that was trotted out each and every Sunday.

And that all changed. That changed the very day Tom Brady walked through the double-glass doors at One Buc Palace to report for duty.

Pete heard that Kyle Trask is taking notes on how to be like TB12 so that next season the transition will be seemless

  2. Joe in Michigan Says:

    Medicated Pete:

    1) Brady is coming back for 2022, until he says otherwise.

    2) It IS good that Kyle Trask is learning from Brady. How could that not be good?

    3) No, Jason Licht DID NOT ruin this season by taking Trask instead of a CB in the 2nd Round, as a few commenters have suggested.

  3. 2021 Year of the GOAT Says:

As I said before….. he is a living legend…. We will not see another

  4. 2021 Year of the GOAT Says:

^^^^ (finished from above) ^^^^ QB in or lifetime like him…. The BUCS staff should have people dedicated to following him and learning every minut detail they can……

  5. '79 Defense Says:

Very well said in those last two paragraphs, Joe.

  6. mg Says:

    Let TB-12 call the timeouts.

  7. Aaron Says:

I’ll take every win we get and I don’t care how we get them..but I do believe that since we’ve gotten Brady – there are calls we get (Good) or calls we don’t get (Good) that have helped us win some games.

  9. Bruce Blahak Says:

Very true…when they seem to slip into the “old bucs” mode, it’s Brady time and all is well again. Hard to believe one player could be so important but we’re watching it. God help us if he goes down.

  10. JA Says:

Ever read the game day open thread?

“Arians is too old and stupid.”
“Brady’s arm tires in the 4th quarter (although he went 4 for 4 in overtime)”
“Sherman is a bum. Cut him after the game.”
“Bowles is the worst DC in the history of football.”
    And so on …

In other words, all the coaches should be fired and the entire team should be cut.
The in-house fighting is good too: Stupid, fool, moron, idiot and “my grandmother knows more football than you” litter the takes. Politics and ignorant vaccine opinions also creep in, but I wish they wouldn’t. I don’t care to hear them within a website dedicated to the Buccaneers. I’m guessing I’m not alone with this thinking. Plenty of other places to take your hate.

I, for one, have thoroughly enjoyed these past two years. We are witnessing a football team who plays with a winning attitude never before seen in these parts. As anyone who follows football is keenly aware, success is limited in the NFL.

When the engine stops, it is not something to be easily restarted.
In the meantime, take note that we are 10—3 and currently the #2 seed in the NFC.
So why not sit back and enjoy the ride?

Yes TB12, is the GOAT Free Agent signing by any team in any sport.

    Definitely a Franchise Changer

The “Universes Quarterback” lol forget just America

And a Legitimate chance now for Back to Back Lombardi’s

    GO BUCS!!!

  12. John Collins Says:

Brady did the same thing with Patriots for 20 years but it was combined with the team’s amazing defensive adjustments in the second half that stabilized the game allowing Brady to win it.

  13. lambeau Says:

John is absolutely correct that the lack of in-game scheme adjustments by the coaching staff is likely to prove fatal during the playoffs vs GB, LA, et. al.

  14. Listnfrmafar Says:

Joe, how come I’ve never read an article on how BA changed the winning dynamic in the locker room? Isn’t that what coaches do? Can you imagine how good this team would be if ALL the coaches were gone and Bucs could use that money on free agents? I mean BA said it himself, “The players know what to do!”

  15. Gordon Brook Says:

The Bucs. are a great team! They have the great Tom Brady to lead them. There are many outstanding players on the team that can achieve a win from any other team when they all play together. They have Sherman, on the team who caught a great pass to made it possible for the Bucs, to win. He has a history of playing great games in the NFL and I believe he is very valuable for the team in the games coming up. AB. will be back after the next two games and he has outstanding ability too. Trust me they have greatest QB ever that has great desire to win the Super Bowl and very great players who can achieve great success working together to win everything!

  16. James west Says:

I hope tom plays till he is 50

  17. Miller5252 Says:

Perfect sentence how Bucs fans felt, “kick in the nuts.” I always went donkey kicked in the nuts. It’s gotta be close, but I think Brady has more wins against the Bills then the Bucs have wins since that crappy era.

  18. Perimeter Blocker Says:

Joe, the words you speak are the truth. Sunday night I had to tell my nephew and my son when they were dejected at the game being tied, that there is no other player you would rather have in the history of football in that situation than TB12! They reluctantly agreed and poof TB12 puts on the cape and we get the “W” 😉

  19. Buddha Says:

The adjustment she make depend on your personnel. And Buccaneers were without three of their top six defensive backs in this game. Still they stopped the bills on the bills last two possessions. When our defensive coordinator leaves for another job you’ll realize how great he really is.

  21. Show Me the TDs Says:

Agreed, Joe. During the last Bill’s drive, they needed a red zone 1st down. I told my wife, if they get this the game is over. They got it. Then, lo and behold, our defense held and forced a FG. I still thought we would lose when we lost the OT coin toss. So glad we didn’t. It feels so good!!!

  22. Listnfrmafar Says:

I keep hearing the CB excuse. We were short two until Dean went out AGAIN! I just saw Rams beat AZ without Ramsey, Bill’s almost win without probowl CB, Balt almost won with NO starting CB’s and lost Jackson. Why can’t these guys cover? As far as Bowles, really whose idea was it to have Cockrell cover Beasley? Total mismatch.

  23. BA4President Says:

Typo at the end – I think you meant 2019, instead of 2021

Dude, you would be complaining about the Rams giving up 383 passing yards to the Cardinals if they were your team.

You would be complaining about the Bills giving up 363 passing yards to the Bucs if the Bills were your team.

Neither of those figures suggest good cornerback play.

Baltimore gave up 271 yards to Cleveland. Cleveland’s 4th highest total of the year.

But overall, we are the super bowl champion and getting the other teams best efforts against us. On top of that we have a much harder strength of schedule (10th hardest) then either Buffalo (23rd) or LA (21st) or Baltimore (27th) so far.

Buc’s point differential is the 3rd highest in the league this year and the two teams that have higher point differential have had ridiculously easier schedules this year (Buffalo and New England).

  25. Listnfrmafar Says:

geno, not true, I expect the yardage Bucs O puts up, they are one of if not the best O in the league. The secondary coverage has NOT changed since week one and yes they are SB champs I expect more. There are high intensity grival games every week, Bucs are not exclusive. How many games have Bucs won this year whereas 1play could of changed the outcome. The reason why Bucs aren’t 11-2 is because D let WTF stay on the field for over 10 minutes in the final qtr not giving the O a chance to comeback. I don’t get it back ups are Pros, and Bucs corners and safeties play way too far off the ball. I get not wanting to get burnt but Winfield was literally 35 yds off the line. It’s also hard to make a open field tackle that far off the ball and we see that EVERY week.

  26. Bucsfanman Says:

Tom doesn’t come here with a different HC. Credit where credit is due, BA changed the culture, Tom Brady cemented it.
Enjoy it my Bucs brethren. We will never see another QB like TB12 again!

  27. Eddie Marz Says:

    2018 Bucs 5-11, 2019 Bucs 7-9. 2020 Bucs 15-5, 2021 Bucs 10-3. Need I say more? GO BUCS!

  28. Eddie Marz Says:

Hey what a better way to clinch the division. Beating The Saints at home! It’s been a looong wait. GO BUCS!

  29. tampabayallday Says:

When is the Tom Brady statue going up?

  30. Izod Says:

It was an interesting fight battle between the historic ineptitude of the Bucs and the eternal greatness of Brady. Even now, we see the curse of the Bucs rear its ugly head whenever we blow big leads, which has happened all too often this year.

  31. Listnfrmafar Says:

Bucsfanman, oh yes he does if Vrabel, Reich, Reid, Floras, Shanahan, Harbaugh, Payton, Rivera, Gruden, McDermott, Tomlin, McVay, Kingsbury, Lafleur and probably a few more.
