Thank The Secondary

December 16th, 2020

Praises Bucs DBs.

Now in recent games the Bucs secondary had slipped. Guys who were balling out were no longer balling out and seemed to be bailing out at times because they were targeted so much.

Not this past Sunday, said NFL sacks king Shaq Barrett.

After the game, Shaq appeared on “The Sunday Drive,” co-hosted by Bill Lekas and Steve Torre heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio. There, Shaq praised his secondary.

When Lekas asked what keyed the Bucs’ pass rush to get six sacks on Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, Shaq didn’t blink.

“Sheesh, the back end, they did a tremendous job covering [Vikings receivers],” Shaq said. “They gave us plenty of time to get to the quarterback.”

How good was the coverage on passing downs? Shaq said he should have had two more sacks the way Vikings receivers were so blanketed.

Shaq also said what other members of the Bucs had said last week, that the Vikings game was the beginning of the playoffs for the Bucs.

“Winning is the only option,” Shaq said.

Love the attitude. Keep it going!

The Vikings were a hot team when we played them, and have excellent weapons on offense. They are better then people think.

When the season started and everyone was screaming foe a wily vet to sign I didn’t think it would be #43 who has stepped up. I think he keeps his spot when Dean is healthy.

I don’t understand why the sluggish starts are blamed on the gameplan/coaching when it’s clearly Brady being shaky and off-target early….it happens in most every game.

@Tbbf – Definitely agree that Brady has been a huge part of the problem. Just blatant overthrows and misses. But the playcalling is part of it as well. Every single team knows we’re gonna run up the gut on every 1st down, and yet the keep doing it. Our run game has been and can be very effective, but you gotta mix it up a little. Especially on the first several drives up the game. Yet we do the same thing every week. And then Brady misses a wide open guy on 2nd or 3rd down…

As for Shaq – “Winning is the only option,” – I LOVE IT!

OK….I continued listening and Brady’s shaky starts were brought up….

Shaq is such a good PR guy. He’s available, honest, and likeable. A great ambassador for the Bucs and the NFL.

Agree with you and TBBF. We’re almost at the end of the season so the Brady hasn’t had time to learn about his receivers routes and how they play is out the door. When they said it was the end of the first quarter I was like, what? I thought I only saw one series that was a three and out on offense. I love the opportunity to have the GOAT and he looks like he will get the Bucs back in the playoffs for the first time in over a decade, but this is a type of Jameis play. Not so many INT but no rest for defense on the sideline. There is no guarantee that we will win out or will lose out, but it’s the fourth quarter and they said they will put it in the comeback kids hands if we were down. Lets get hot!

    GO BUCS!!!
    PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hear ya, the whole game flew by to be honest. It was already halftime after only about an hour had passed. Pretty sure the game was completely finished before it was even 1pm on the West Coast. Crazy.
