Brady Keeping Lid On Frustration?

December 25th, 2020

Just win, baby.

Last week a former Bucs quarterback had a lot of things to say about his beloved Bucs and there were all sorts of interesting angles taken.

Former Bucs quarterback Shaun King, one of but three Bucs quarterbacks to lead the team to the NFC Championship game, had a sitdown with former Bucs guard Ian Beckles on Beckles’ podcast, “In the Trenches.”

King seems to think there is frustration in the receivers room over the direction of the offense and if not for the leadership of park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady, the frustration may have already blown the lid off of One Buc Palace.

King felt there could be an explosion coming, one that is simmering in the underground caves beneath the Den of Depression. King noted that the Bucs have serious talent at receiver and all of them are way under their normal production levels.

“Now the thing that I think doesn’t get a lot of attention, that has kind of not reared its head yet but it could potentially, is the fact that, they’ve got some guys at receiver who from a production standpoint are way behind what they are accustomed to,” King said. “Hopefully [the offense] picks up soon because I know there has to be some frustration with those guys not getting the kind of shots and the consistency and volume of shots and looks that they are accustomed to.”

Beckles agreed with King and would not be surprised if the b!tching hasn’t already started. That’s what receivers do, Beckles said, often constantly. Then King threw Keyshawn Johnson under the bus.

“I had to deal with it!” King said. “Keyshawn Johnson caught the most touchdowns in his entire career but he only caught 56 passes. And I got benched. And he caught 100-plus balls the next year and had one touchdown.

“Now I didn’t come in with [the street cred] of Tom Brady and I think it is because what he has done previously, you won’t hear [receivers kvetching] publicly.

“I know behind closed doors, those [receivers] can’t be happy. They can’t be happy they aren’t getting targets. They aren’t getting catchable targets. You can see the frustration in Mike Evans. You really can.”

Well, as Joe has said, winning is the greatest perfume. If the Bucs would have lost to the Dixie Chicks last week putting their playoff chances in peril, perhaps we would have heard whining by now.

Joe believes King is absolutely correct in that none of the receivers are going to cross Brady. Having six rings buys you respect no matter what.

Anyone who thinks these two clowns, Fatbutt and Horse Abuser, have any true inside knowledge is an idiot.

    Why publish this crap, Joe?

  2. James Says:

The Bucs did hand the Falcons a loss last week.

***If the Bucs would have handed the Dixie Chicks a loss last week putting their playoff chances in peril, perhaps we would have heard some whining by now.

  3. ocala Says:

That would be surprising if they are correct. It does not sound like him.

Mike Evans has a good shot to reach 1,000 yards, has a bunch of TD catches and the Bucs should be going to the playoffs.

Mike should be happy and my guess is that he is.

  4. Kyle Says:

Don’t agree with kings take. He isn’t in the locker room, he’s just yapping. Our receivers haven’t won diddly squat and now they are in a playoff race because tb12 is here. If we have guys that are that childish then they shouldn’t be on the team.

  5. Tampabay Allday Says:

Man what is king talking about??? Playoffs>production

  6. mark2001 Says:

Shaun… I’ll tell you one major difference. Brady was a HOF QB. You were a QB that never would been a starter, had you not been on a team with a D that was among the best D’s of all time. Who wouldn’t give you sass? Guys like Key knew your game wasn’t close to being in his class. In fact, if you had been exchanged for Brad Johnson, the Bucs would probably have some more banners in the stadium. Hate to be cruel, but when you start down that road, have to lay it out straight.

  7. Anonymous Says:

Allday – there isn’t a receiver in the league that doesn’t pay attn to their personal stats. I def think Evans is frustrated but is being a pro about this. He knows that he should be utilized more than he is as do most fans.

  8. Durango 95 Says:

Small-handed people say the darnedest things.

  9. Cobraboy Says:

Sounds like sour grapes from Doughboy.

  10. Tampabay Allday Says:

@ anonymous you are no mind reader and neither am I. So you have to go by what the players and coaches are saying. Playoffs>Production. You think he wants another 1000 yds season and no playoffs? Or under 1000yds and playoffs?

  11. Rod Munch Says:

Beckles is literally just a fake news d-bag who makes things up and says “shocking” things because he’s so “shocking”. I haven’t heard enough of King to know if he’s just trying to get a sports talk show or not – but in any case it’s just speculation, which means nothing.

Also I don’t think he’s really throwing Keyshawn under the bus saying he was bit_hing about the ball not being thrown his way – that was sort of Keyshawn’s gimmick.

Finally, I hate these photos of Brady, at some angles, in that uniform, he just looks like Trent Dilfer, and it makes me queasy.

  12. Godlovesbucs Says:

You have godwin and evans; guys who have only said their priority is to win games; on the cusp of their first playoff season. You have A.B. who has said nothing other than how happy he is to be with Brady. You have Gronk who is like a little kid. And you have scottie miller who is having his best season of his young career. Who is having a problem? This is utter nonsense from 2 blowhards who just want to stir ish up.

  13. Beeej Says:

Keep hearing pontificators saying TB12 and BA don’t get along (sans ANY sort of evidence)

Keep hearing pontificators saying TB12 and BL don’t get along
    (sans ANY sort of evidence)

Keep hearing pontificators saying ME13 isn’t happy about his production (again, sans ANY sort of evidence)

  14. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Ok’ Smoothie King…beefing up for his post NFL career…an nteresting strategy. This fella was handed a starting QB gig with one of the best defenses in history and underwhelmed.

  15. Dbbuc Says:

My opinion is to call BS on this. If anyone thinks that Evans is bitching or putting up with anyone who is would be talking out their butt.
Not every receiver is a loudmouth diva like Key or TO.

  16. dmatt Says:

Please…these two idiots r trying to stir things up because they don’t have access to the locker room to hear the real truth. AB’s behavior is the opposite of Steelers/Raiders AB. MEvans is up for Walter Payton Man of the year award which historically goes to those with no character issues, demonstrates unselfishness, n r team players. Knock it off with ur instigation n fake news.

  17. Swampbuc Says:

Shaun Burger King can’t imagine a receiver not having an ego because of his own overblown sense of himself. If he had gone to work instead of the buffet line he might have been the Bucs quarterback until a few years ago. Instead after he was benched for a Brad, he couldn’t make another team .

Yeah, he really has ground to stand on.

Mike just got 111 yards against the Fowlcans btw.

  18. Jedleman Says:

    Bulllllll loney

  19. Jedleman Says:

Brady’s brought the national spotlight to Tampa. Now everyone wants a piece of the hot take pie.

  20. Miketb19 Says:

No offense to Mr. Kings opinion but he’s had a stick up his A**for about 15 years or so since Gruden kicked him to the curb this team could go 16-0 and he would still be crying like a little girl. So I don’t believe this team has anything going on even close to what this guy is saying we finally are going to make the playoffs that’s all that matters.

  21. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

King gave us one of the most exciting Monday Night Football wins in team history and you all act like he’s some kind of scrub. If I’m correct, with the leagues best defense he helped lead us to the NFC Championship game. The thing that he has on all of you all is that he WAS in the Bucs locker room for a number of years so his opinion or guess is a whole lot more legit than yours. After the last 6 seasons and now he’s in the cusp of not getting 1000 yards and you guys can’t think that Evans is a little irritated when he can’t get a pass when open or thrown where he can catch it? Look at Godwin his numbers are way down but he’s been one of our most reliable receivers. Brady has his favorites, Gronk , Miller and Brown everybody else is second fiddle. You guys are funny thinking you know more than someone who actually played in the NFL.

  22. adam from ny Says:

get mike evans 150+ yards saturday…so he gets his 1k after the final game…

and get rojo his 100+ in the final game

of course, wins come first…then these secondary milestones come into play

  23. Jedleman Says:

You’ll understand why everyone’s jumping on the hot take wagon when the stadium and facilities get opened up to media and fans next year. It will be the craziest thing Tampa has ever seen. Including their super bowl years.

  24. Chris L Says:

I don’t get this. Sounds like drama being made up. Evans has a contract already and wants to win. Godwin wants a contract but he will get it. These guys want to win and Antonio brown has a ton of incentives tied to winning a Super Bowl. This is so dumb for king to talk about. Everyone has an opinion on the bucs. Players play to win. If they want to catch tons of passes and keep losing then gtfoh.

  25. Swampbuc Says:

Someone is giving King credit for the Washington playoff win? Better give the credit to Lynch, Dunn, Alstott, and the Defense. I could have quarterbacked that game with that defense. Please.

  26. Defense Rules Says:

“Beckles agreed with King and would not be surprised if the b!tching hasn’t already started.”

Horsepuckey. Evans, Godwin, Gronk & even Brown care about ONE thing at this point in the season: getting into the playoffs. I’m sure this offense isn’t humming as all of them want it to, but BITCHING about it? Bullspit. Doing what they can to figure out ways to fix it? You bet your bippy.

    I ain’t buying it!
    Sensationalism by read me SK
If true that the WR’s are anywhere close to the story the team is doomed
    With short sighted selfish players..

  28. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    Meh. Non story.

  29. BradyBucs Says:

How quickly people forget how much King STUNK for the Bucs.

I can throw it farther than he can I bet. There was nothing more painful as a Bucs fan than watching a King-led Offense.

  30. BradyBucs Says:

    DavidBigBucsFan,

I was at that MNF Rams game. Yes it was exciting but big whoop. King sucked for an NFL QB and there’s a reason he quickly left the league. Dude was a terrible QB.

  31. adam from ny Says:

shaun kang might be co-hosting with beckles on wdae this upcoming year…

    watch out…

2 big beefy bucs rockin’ the mic

  32. stpetebucsfan Says:

If there’s any beotching in the receivers and TE’s rooms it’s absurd.
What the hell did they expect?

In round numbers over their career averages…

AB has been targeted 10X per game
    ME13 targeted 9X per game
    Gronk targeted 6
    CG 14 targeted 6

Our four top receivers have AVERAGED over their entire careers a total number of targets of 31 X per game.

Tom Brady has thrown on average 38 passes per game this year.

That leaves just 7 targets for running backs, Cam Brate, and Scottie Miller

It seemed obvious from the start that there is only one football and a lot of very talented mouths to feed. We knew this would be an issue before the season after we signed Gronk…and then adding AB just exacerbated the situation.

The prevailing attitude was win and nobody will care. I don’t think that has changed. We are on the cusp of winning. Tomorrow is a critical game. Lose tomorrow and again to Atlanta and this season will be viewed as an absolute bust. Might be some noise out of the locker room then.

Win tomorrow and against Atlanta and advance at least one round in the playoffs and all will be fine with the WR’s. Fortunately ME..CG..Gronk and Brate and Miller have in common is a lack of Diva quality…AB seems to have blended with them well so far.

  33. 1sparkybuc Says:

The Bucs went of the NFCC game in spite of Shaun King. He’s the main reason the Bucs couldn’t score a TD.

  34. Swampbuc Says:

Burger King is obviously accessible. Too bad he has poor standing based on his disregard for work ethic, self improvement…..and when given the chance in 2002 against Pittsburgh, his doofus was on full display. Didn’t know his playbook or his opponent. He had a few flashes, but basically sucked as history confirms.

  35. Bob in Valrico Says:

The players want to win first and foremost. If their is frustration, and I believe
there is some cause for it, it probably isn’t because of the amount of targets.
Brady hasn’t been particularly sharp early in some games and some frustration
would occur if a pass is not accurate enough for a receiver to make a play on the ball. That said, a very determined Brady comes out in the second half and for whatever reason, everything comes together.

  36. Lyndon Robinson Says:

King is a hater and trying to stir up controversy the books are doing good and need to continue doing good Sean King sucked he never did anything for the books well he was third string quarterback I’m from Tampa I remember

  37. adam from ny Says:

    word…

how ’bout them tampa bay books lyndon ^^^^^

    omg

  38. Hodad Says:

Godwin is the ultimate team player. He blocks like hell, plays hurt, everything you could ask for in a receiver, and player. Evans is having a great year. If you asked him would he rather have a 1500 yard season, and be 7-9 or have a 500 yard season, and make the playoffs I truly believe he’d take playoffs. Then there’s A.B., who seems great full, and should be for the chance he’s getting. So all in all, I don’t put any stock in what King’s saying.

  39. Steve Gaudreau Says:

In all the years I’ve had the pleasure to watch TB12 play up here in New England, he had one year of somebody’s for receivers. 50 tds and no ring. All the rest of the years (Gronk aside) he had no name receivers. With the talent the Bucs have, I’m definitely surprised the record isn’t better but one thing that will always be the same for Tom Brady. His favorite receiver will always be the OPEN RECEIVER. period. They all can bitch about their numbers. If they ain’t open then they ain’t getting the ball.

  40. TheBradyBunch Says:

Steve, that’s part of the problem. Evans doesn’t have to be opened, the ball just needs to be thrown where only he can catch it. Brady doesn’t seem to trust him to do this even though he has done that his entire career.

For those talking about winning being the only thing that matters I say BS. While he wants to win, he can also be frustrated that he isn’t being utilized to the best if his ability. The Bucs are 9-5 not 14-0. This team has so much offensive talent that the record should better than this if they were getting max production on offense.

  41. orlbucfan Says:

ME13 and CG14 are every bit as talented as Methusaleh12. There have been times when they both have been wide open and M12 missed them. They have gone off the field to the sidelines and commented to M12 about it. M12 needs to target them in the first half. He acts like he doesn’t warm up until the second half. Probably his age which is no surprise.

  42. Ron Woods Says:

They all getting paid to win and Bucs going to make playoffs for first time in dozen years. So since none of them have said anything why does name calling, decension spreading, trouble making Joe publish.this crap

  43. JoJo Says:

From just a yardage perspective, does anyone have stats for Evans’ pass interception yardage? To me it looks like a lot and almost all of them would have been big yardage.
It seems much more than any other receiver.

  44. Cobraboy Says:

    He’s making stuff up.

  45. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I agree with Rod Munch. Shaun was really not throwing Keyshawn under the bus. After all he wrote a book called “Just Give Me The Damn Ball”.

By the way, Rod, if the Bucs were to meet and defeat the Saints 34-24 that would be a real statement game. Not too mention how good it would feel.

Unfortunately, we have not seen enough from our guys this season to expect anything like that to happen.

    Go Bucs!

  46. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Shaun King does not even get on the field if Dilfer does not break his clavicle and Zeier suffer torn rib cartilage. Ian just stirs the pot as he is want to do from time to time. Our receivers know how lucky they are to have TB12 at the helm , and playoff victories are far more important than individual stats.

  47. Robin bell Says:

I’ve been a bucs fan from the start I’ve lost a lot of money sitting on the bus the one thing I’ve always said we’ve got a lot of talent on both sides of the ball why in the hell don’t we spend money for a quarterback as far as you go Shaun King on your best day being a quarterback you’re not a pimple on Tom Brady’s house after he retired he’s 43 and you’re either a racist prick or dumber than a box of rocks difference between you and Tom Brady he’s got a bunch of talent out there if he didn’t put that ball around like he does the Mike Evans in the godwinns would be 2 manned all the time and not open as much everybody on the bucks team of happy burn the playoffs we’re winning with no preseason I think you’re a jackass can a person that site my opinion I ever see you I’ll come your face and tell you you are never a quarterback when I punch you square in your fat little face until you’re not a fighter neither must be hard for you to get up in the morning and look in the mirror
