Two Years Of Duo Dominance

December 19th, 2020

Half of Bucs’ QB terrors.

Sometimes Joe takes a step back to fully appreciate the way a pair of Bucs players put the fear of God into quarterbacks.

The Bucs pumped out something on social media yesterday explaining how Bucs outside linebackers Jason Pierre-Paul and NFL sack king Shaq Barrett keep quarterbacks lying awake at night.

For example, JPP and Shaq rank first among all pairs of NFL pass rushers in strip-sacks, with 14 through this season and in 2019. Shaq and JPP are second among duos with total sacks (45.5) in over those two seasons.

Strip sacks are just f’ing awesome and make Joe’s afternoon. That is like grand slam homer or hitting a three-pointer at the buzzer. Joe maybe gets too excited at home when he sees Shaq or JPP get a strip-sack.

Joe has said it many time and will continue to say it because it is so true: there is no more important element of a defense than getting after the quarterback.

“A quarterback must go down. And he must go down hard.”

Thank you, Al Davis.

Makes me wonder how the Bucs were playing without a pass rush in the styles white, clayborn, bowers days

Strip sacks are indeed awesome. They’re also a massively unreliable indicator of defensive performance, especially when compared to overall pressures.

Sad after this year it will probably come to an end. Sorry to be so negative D1.

Seeing as bud dupree is out for the season they should be top in the league in sacks for the last 2 seasons. Thats pretty impressive. Also #3 in qb hits, thats awesome. Why wil it be over next year? You think they will let shaq walk? JPP go? One of them are going to underperform?

  7. Jason Says:

I wonder what their numbers would be if they didn’t have to drop into coverage ever.

    Allbuccedup,

Hey I understand and, other than pointing out an overstatement about the roster next year, I get it.

You’re a Buc-lifer and as one, you’re feeling like at any moment the bottom will fall out. This is something as a fan, you have earned/learned thru years of exactly that happening. Expectations is the cause of so much disappointment that it’s hard to believe in the team.

I’m not going to argue that this time is different. I look at the team, roster and coaching and I try to see things as they are. No better, no worse, no spin. That perspective has me thinking this year is not a championship season.

It’s an important season, if and only if, this is a part 1 of a 2 part plan to pull this franchise out its 20yr terminal decent to the depths of ineptitude.

We have 3 more games in the regular season, that’s plenty of time for things to change . Both for the bucs and every NFL team. Next year and it’s initial challenges of cap and roster might as well be 100 years from now. It’s too early and basically an exercise in futility to ponder the next season.

Last, as fans we look to the team for signs that things have changed. Culture change . I believe it’s time for all buc fans to start looking for that change within themselves. Let’s face it, as fans we have a losing mentality and have loser expectations. We suck. Yet we all sit on our azzzzz waiting for the team to change….why should they, we don’t demand excellence. We re the personification of the thing we hate. Losing/losers mentally, our expectations are losing, we get that and it’s perversely satisfying.

    Time to change.

Times are a changing…… this season is awesome!

If only we were able to stop the short pass.

    Is RoJO playing tomorrow ??

    Solid post D1.

Though I would add that there are a few of us who are demanding excellence and perfection, especially considering our current roster. However a majority of fans keep telling us to stop complaining and just be happy with going one and done in the playoffs.

Personally, I do not accept that mentality of mediocrity.

Only a true bucs fan could spend 20 years dreaming of a pass rush and immediately start worrying about losing it once it arrives.
This is supposed to be fun. I am going to enjoy it while it’s here.
