Heroic Defensive Comeback

November 29th, 2020

Joe has screamed for years for the Bucs to collect quality edge rushers, and today’s heroic comeback against the Chiefs was Exhibit A.

Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul just kept coming and coming.

Joe was damn proud of the Bucs’ pass rush rattling Patrick Mahomes a big, which is nearly impossible. And they certainly drove the Chiefs offensive line into crushing holding penalties (and there were several blatant holds on Barrett that were not called.

That BS roughing the passer call on JPP in the fourth quarter — look at the film. Mahomes’ follow-through on his incompletion pushes JPP’s long harm into his face. That was a horrible call, and the NFL needs to rewrite the damn rulebook if that’s a penalty.

The Bucs forced the Chiefs to punt four times, which is a lot for them in a tight game. It speaks to what the Bucs pulled off in the second, third and fourth quarters. It was just too much to ask for the Bucs to stop Mahomes one final time, but where the hell was someone spying him to stop the scramble? Joe just wants to punch a wall.

Regardless, Joe’s giving a virtual high-five to everyone on that defense other than No. 24. Not only did he get beat badly by Tyreek Hill, but it was obvious that his confidence was shattered until a great pass defense late in the fourth quarter. Davis has to have thicker skin than what he showed. Hopefully, he’ll learn from the experience.

Extra kudos to Shaq for the game-changing strip-sack of Mahomes.

Yeah, it’s a 60-minute game and the first quarter was atrocious. But Joe must still applaud how the Bucs adjusted and left it all on the field defensively against the league’s most explosive team.

There were Chiefs running free all night. This D stinks on ice. The only thing that held the Chiefs back were their own mistakes.

  2. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Nothing heroic about the defense getting bitch slapped in the first half. Seems as if it happens every game.

  3. LVMYBUCS Says:

“HELP IS ON THE WAY” lol lol lol

  4. RICHARD weeks Says:

Bowles soft coverage call blew any chance for us

  5. Wee Willie Winky Says:

This Todd Bowles D is just good enough to get you beat

Roughing the passer calls and neutral zone infractions are icing on a really crappy cake.

  6. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I’ve said this a million times before

this defense is the ONLY reason these games have been close all season long cause of offense is poop show with Tom Brady Winston and his long ball interceptions

Brady’s inability at QB for making plays when it counts is absolutely killing this offense.

  7. Kgh4life Says:

This coaching staff put Davis in a tough spot, no CB can cover Tyreek Hill one on one for an entire game.

  8. FirstTimePoster Says:

Absolutely. After the horror show in the 1st quarter, the D bowed their neck. It would have been so easy to say F it. They showed heart and grit. Seven dash Five going into the bye. Get healthy and get ready.

  9. Miller5252 Says:

How come they can’t play like that for the whole game? Does Bowles know you don’t have to wait until halftime to change things up?!?! You got a coach for everything and you get hammered at the good ole Den of Depression the first half. Get your team ready Arians!!

  10. Wee Willie Winky Says:

This $hitshow is one Antonio Brown tirade from a raging dumpster fire.

Mike Evans just wants to win, even that is a long shot now.

  11. Hahahahaha Says:

Worst fan bas in sports. Hard to be a good defense when the GREATEST OF ALL TIME CANT GET MORE THAN 1 FIRST DOWN IN THE FIRST HALF. Yall sound like every talking head sans Tony Romo. He was calling out Tom Brady for losing this game for us like he did at least 2 other times this year by himself.

  12. bojim Says:

I mentioned earlier that someone needed to shadow Mahomes!! JPP just doesn’t stop!!

  13. Blackmagic00 Says:

Totally with you on this Joe. These fans are pathetic as well. We may have lost, but I feel like the last 3 quarters of this game just propelled this team to a deep playoff push. Now let’s get some guys some much deserved rest and health this next week. A week 13 bye is definitely tough. Last year we would’ve been 5-7 at best right now. Oh…..wait, we were and that was with a week 7 bye. GO BUCS!!

  14. garbs65 Says:

8-8. we have the falcons twice…and they are playing good football right now. Vikings are no pushover and the Lions….who knows. Bucs seem to be really slow starters and are always playing from behind. I’m tired of hearing about lack of time together for Brady and the offense. It’s week 12. That’s 3 months. The Glazers and BA should go and listen to Romo’s comments during the TV coverage. The Bucs are vanilla on offense and we take way too long to adjust on defense.

  15. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

7-5 at the bye with a solid chance to go 11-5 or 10-6 and into the playoffs. After 13 years of ineptitude, I’ll take it. What I am sick of taking, however, is our stupid offensive (literally) game plan: throw deep and abandon the run. Isn’t it amazing how we loosened them up with Rojo running and catching the ball and a controlled passing game, and then hit a few shots down the field? Yet, they put Fournette in while Rojo is running hard, and then start throwing deep again. I hope during the bye week the coaches decide to commit to the running game come hell or high water for the final four games, and allow TB12 to play his game. If they do then we have a real chance of playing our best, most consistent ball in December and into the playoffs.

  16. Roster Says:

Boltsfan… by the transitive property of equality. The only thing holding back the Bucs are their own mistakes.

  17. the_end Says:

    Not impressed AT ALL!!!!!!!

The defense should not have given up that lead in the FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. JimmyJack Says:

I was very pleased with the defense today. Big stops all day and made some splash plays. Passrush woke up.

They gave Tom Brady chance after chance after chance and the offense was not ready to play good football today. The offense was horrible. So horrible they gagged up an insurmountable dephecit.

We arent built to win with the Defense carrying us. If our offense going to continue playing awful for entire halfs at a time we will fade away as just a bad foitball team.

Been waiting all year for this offense to figure it out. Its getting to look dim that they are goid enough to figure it out.

  19. gofortheface30 Says:

That whole – pretending to get on phone, and yelling “help is on the way” was mimicking the famous Shannon Sharpe clip when Denver was destroying New England in the 90’s. He wasn’t exactly being original, to the commenter above. But then again, when you have the most receiving yards in freaking history in one quarter (Classic Bucs) you can do what you want. I am going to try my damndest to keep a level head here, the bucs have lost the past few games by a field goal ok. A field goal. They-re 7-5, 4 games to go. Now’s not the time to bail you freaking spazzes

  20. unbelievable Says:

    Defense played 3 good quarters.

    Offense played 1 good quarter.

That’s not gonna cut it. Falls on the coaching staff at the end of the day. Way too much talent to lose 3 out of our last 5.

  21. Frank Pillow Says:

I will say it again…90 is the most positively impactful FA signing since Simeon Rice and maybe even Hardy Nickerson. He has one hell of a motor. As for #24 aka ‘Davis Islands’ he was bad, but he was also left hung out to dry too many times by a suspect initial game plan by TB and unspectacular safety play by 31 and 33.

It’s remarkable to watch 15– I’m not sure in all of my years that I’ve seen anyone diagnose schemes and manipulate individual defenders, play in and play out, like he does. He’s special. Really special.

  22. Bucsfan951 Says:

The loaf Davis was in full effect tonight!

  23. Kimbo Slice Says:

It was a mirage. Chiefs did more imploding in the second half than the Bucs did stopping them. Imo, Bowles is missing an elite CB like he had with Peterson in AZ. Mathieu was also a better playmaker than Winfield when he was in AZ. Those are the big spots where I see them not being able to take the next step on defense. Haven’t heard White’s name in a month either. Brady doesn’t help either because he struggles early in games and keeps the defense out there so much, and he’s simply not getting the job done in big spots with games on the line.

  24. Colonel Angus Says:

Doesn’t seem like Bowles does any scouting during the week. He just wings it in the first half and then makes adjustments. Defense has been solid the 2nd half most of the season, not so much to begin games.

  25. Wee Willie Winky Says:

    Listen up, JoeBucFans:

There is NO way that this inept bunch of losers runs the table to finish 11-5, even with a healthy TB12.

    Maybe, 8-8.

Time to seriously consider firing everyone involved and starting over.

  26. JimmyJack Says:

BlackMagic them are good words. I feel like I did just see this offense start to cluck on that 1st TD drive just before the half. But lets remember we just spend the last 5 years of Winston looking great in just 2 quaters…..Thinking he was starting to click only to get punched in the gut the next few Quaters.

IM all for hoping the offense really did start to find a rythum and can start putting together consistent complete games……But Ive been hoping that for the last month now. Its starting to look bleak man.

  27. JimmyJack Says:

Wee Willie can we at least see if we can get into the playoffs before we fire everybody?

I think we actually got a chance to make it bro.

Can we please just try to get there before firing everybody? Please. I been waiting like 15 years man.
