CBS Prediction: Bucs No. 1 Wild Card

November 13th, 2020

Playoff opponent?

Joe guesses you could call this a consolation prize for getting seal-clubbed by the Saints.

Currently, the Bucs are basically two games behind the Saints in the division race with seven games to go. The slimy Saints have a head-to-head tiebreaker on the Bucs. So for the Bucs to win the NFC South, they would have to finish a game ahead of the Saints.

Though a wild card may be a bummer as the Bucs would start the playoffs on the road without a bye week, and it would be very unlikely they would host a playoff game, John Breech of CBS Sports doesn’t think a wild card berth would be such a bad thing for the Bucs.

Why is that? Because the Bucs would likely open the playoffs in Philadelphia where the Eagles, though they lead the division, would struggle to have a winning record.

Although the Buccaneers aren’t being projected to win the NFC South, that might actually be a good thing, because the computer thinks they’re going to get the best wild card spot. If the Buccaneers land the fifth spot, that means they’d get to open postseason play against the winner of the NFC East, which is almost like getting a bye. Overall, the Buccaneers are being given a 76.9% chance of making the playoffs.

If you think about it, if the Bucs would travel to Philadelphia to open the playoffs favored to win. However, there is the ugly Bucs history of playing games below 40 degrees. It’s highly likely a January game in Philadelphia would be in the 30s or lower.

Playing (an expected) losing team to open the playoffs is a lot better than the alternative. And if the Bucs could get past the Eagles, they would be two wins from playing in the Den of Depression in the Super Bowl come February.

    Wrong!!!!!

Joe…………no team that melted down like the Bucs did last Sunday night will make the playoffs.

For the Bucs to make the Playoffs this year……….some really good teams are gonna have a lose 2 to 3 more games……

  2. Robert Says:

Meh, they have time and a bye week to get stuff right.

I try not to look ahead too far……that’s what comes from being an experienced Buc fan.
Never talked about the SB….and won’t think of being the #1 WC…

I would say that if we play a cold weather game….Brady is the right QB…

As for the playoffs….we need to have a better record than just one of these 3 teams at this point..

    Rams, Bears, Cardinals…

The Rams…we play and need to win….but if we don’t I believe they play the Seahawks & Cardinals….and the Cardinals play the Rams twice….Seahawks & Bills..
The Bears play the Packers twice & the Vikings twice

When you look at the matchups of our WC contending teams….they look good.

But…..we need to win our games….period.

This is not a playoff team. Sorry. I really wanted it to be but outside of 3 quarters vs the Packers and the game in Vegas, this team even in wins have been dismal. Maybe next year.

The buccaneers fan base might be the most fickle in the NFL. A playoff spot, any playoff spot, is something to celebrate. And I for one don’t expect the Saints to win-out from here, so the division may still be on the cards.
This is already the best season I’ve seen in years. Embrace it!

We still have to get past the Panthers Sunday, and if we play up there like we played against the Saints, we are not gonna win.

  7. Tampabuscsbro Says:

You guys know that teams that make the playoffs are allowed to have bad games right?

If the bucs go out there and do that against the panthers then yes you can start black pilled doomer posting about this team. til then this team is still on track to make the playoffs.

    Here comes the HYPE!!!

All the talk about Bucs going to the SB, winning the division etc is fun, but probably a little bit silly. All I wanted when this season started was to finally get back in the playoffs. Even if we barely get it in I’ll be happy. Once they make it to the playoffs anything can happen. Just get in!

This team has the talent and the makeup to beat anyone in the NFL. Look at how they handled Green Bay and Las Vegas, and how they came back against the Chargers. The biggest issue is inconsistency, which to me was expected in the first half of a “no preseason” season with all the personnel changes. I do believe a lot of this stuff will iron out towards the end of season and after the bye. Really happy they are sitting at 6-3, even if the losses were ugly and some of the wins were ugly.

My biggest concern is the gameplanning at times and the lack of fire in the saints game. They arent there mentally yet, hopefjlly that can be learned in the next 8 weeks.

The rough part about this scenario is that if we win this game, we go marching down to New Orleans …

  12. PolkFan Says:

If all the higher seeded teams win that is.

Cold weather history, really? Brady and JPP, AB… huge list of former cold weather starts. Non-story.

  14. August 1976 Buc Says:

The bottom line is the Bucs are on track for the playoffs. Yes they are a work in progress. But in spite of crapping the bed againts the Aints they are still 6-3. This is alot better than most years. GO BUCS!!! KEEP TOM ALIVE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP DRIVE!!!
