“Brady Is Full Of What The Elephant Left On The Show Ground”

November 26th, 2020

Handshakes and wins.

Joe has heard football players called all sorts of things. But this is a new one.

Never has Joe heard a former NFL star call a current star pachyderm dung.

But that’s what Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe called park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, jet ski-losing, handshake-stiffing Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.

Earlier this year at Soldier Field on the shore of Lake Michigan in Chicago, journeyman quarterback Nick Foles outdueled Brady on Thursday Night Football. It was the infamous fourth down folly, where Brady thought it was third down on the final Bucs play, a haphazard pass to Cam Brate over the middle.

After the game, rather than the two quarterbacks embracing one another as is tradition, Brady stomped off the field.

Now on Monday night the Bucs lost to the Rams where the Bucs had the ball and looked to be marching to a game-tying field goal or perhaps a game-winning touchdown. But Brady, who has been simply brutal throwing long passes in November, went to the well again to throw a long pass only to get picked.

And like Brady did to Foles, Brady sandbagged Rams quarterback Jared Goff and bolted to the Bucs locker room.

Goff just stood there on the field looking like a child in a store who momentarily lost his mommy, scanning the scattered players for the six-time Super Bowl winner.

Sharpe was outraged and took to Twitter.

Sharpe is hardly the only guy unloading on Brady in the national media. The one and only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo of SiriusXM Radio fame used his national radio show to chastise Brady.

In short, Russo guesses the reason Brady stiffed both Foles and Goff is that Brady, Russo thinks, doesn’t consider Foles or Goff equals so they don’t deserve his time unless Brady is the victor.

Russo also labeled Brady a bad loser.

Personally, Joe can’t get too worked up about this. Joe was much more concerned about the Bucs losing. A postgame handshake doesn’t mean a damn thing to winning or losing.

Is it a bad look? Of course it is. It is bush league.

But hey, Joe remembers former NFL coach and current Hall of Famer John Madden recall never mingling between teams after the final whistle. Teams and local authorities were certain that teams would brawl after games unless they were shooed straight to their respective locker rooms.

There’s a soft spot in Joe’s heart for football players who still want to beat the brains out of their opponents after the game. It’s sort of, well, romantic.

    Brady doesn’t like to lose.

  2. Roy T. Buford Says:

Sure, it’s a bad look, but it’s certainly not the worst we see around the league. I’m not too worried myself about Brady after a game, nor does Goff or Foles getting butt hurt bother me. And I sure don’t care what Shannon Sharpe or any other talking head think. Overpaid players as now overpaid media ranting and raving. Nah.

  3. rfdes Says:

Brady is here only for Brady. He has no interest in this team other than to use the team for her personal ego. i.e. pad his stats and show the world that it was he and not Belichoke that won those Super Bowls. I really wish he wasn’t here and he gets in the way of me rooting for my team.

Non the less, I will continue to root for the Bucs, just not Brady, which is tough to do.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Why not add pachyderm dung to the long list of annoying monikers for Brady…..

  5. Roy T. Buford Says:

The Bucs were right to send Winston and McCoy packing, and it was good guys like Brady came and could rub off on some of the players, even if he does some odd things like diss the victor QB.

Frankly, that’s not really the story here. I never liked the BA hire, as I thought Licht should have been fired (not freakin’ extended) after his biggest blunder–wasting the 1st overall draft pick and taking five seasons to figure that bust out. BA was the final hail Mary to save Winston and I’ll bet Arians has not even walked 500 yards total during practice in almost two seasons.

Sadly, Brady is a happy blip on a sordid Bucs history, and really is one of the bright spots. But, if the Bucs keep refusing to own up to bad coaching and bad playcalling, and being clueless after the latest loss, and Brady won’t hang out another year anyway. I hope Josh Rosen is learning from him. God forbid we have to stomach Gabbert next year.

Given the shape of the O line now, Brady may not even finish the year. If the Bucs can even go in beat someone like DAL or PHI in the playoffs (not sure they can) they will surely face the Saints again. If I’m correct, BA has lost all four games so far to the Saints. I’m not expecting better than a split with ATL.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Excellent Roy. Unless something changes, our last 5 games will each be a struggle. Can’t see us going very deep in the playoffs playing as inconsistently as we’ve been playing.

@Joe … “There’s a soft spot in Joe’s heart for football players who still want to beat the brains out of their opponents after the game. It’s sort of, well, romantic.”

Romantic? LMAO. Oh how I pity your poor wife on this Thanksgiving Day.

  7. Davenport Buc Says:

    Who gives a ….?

I would rather have my guys pissed off, rather than all smiles and laughing after losing an important game.

  8. TheBradyBunch Says:

Exactly Davenport. I was at the game and i was pissed and didn’t shake hands with the other fans in our section when I stormed out. I will never forget how angry I was when the Bucs blew it against Washington and the watching how unfazed out there yucking it up with the QB that had just humiliated him. I want all of our players to be angry when they screw up and when they lose. This isn’t peewee football and could care less if the two QBs shake hands.

  9. TheBradyBunch Says:

    McCoy was

  10. stpetebucsfan Says:

I’m not a giant Shannon Sharpe fan…but he does tell the truth…”as he sees it” and this time I tend to agree.

Bottom line…They were classless moves made by a sore loser.

Sadly in my life I’ve seen a lot of great players who are sore losers. I used to think it was actually a necessary part of winning. Then I saw too many great athletes who exuded class. It’s why we still LOVE Selmon and Brooks and only RESPECT Sapp.

My point is that OK Tom Brady is a jerk when it comes to losing. He’s far from the Lone Ranger. Michael Jordan is not exactly gracious…there are plenty of others.

When I covered NASCAR in the 80’s it was Waltrip and Earnhardt. Two polar opposites. Earnhardt could be great copy and he could be a total jerk second only to Bill Elliott.

So at a preseason media tour where drivers and reporters could chat in an informal relaxed setting I asked Earnhardt…”Dale sometimes you are the greatest copy and sound bites on earth…other times you’re not exactly the nicest guy” I smiled. Thankfully he smiled back and picked up on it. And Earnhardt was straight out of Hollywood casting…NOBODY ever looked more like a tough raw NASCAR driver. He smiled and said…”Well boys if I’m winning you can talk to me. If I’m losing stay the hell away.” We all laughed but he MEANT IT.

  11. bojim Says:

Shake his hand Baby, er Brady.

  12. rrsrq Says:

Win or lose, it’s what the league does, opposing players shake hands because the NFL is a small fraternity of brothers – nobody said you are going out to dinner after the game. Don’t be a punk about it, win or lose unless you got into a fight during the game

  13. Jmarkbuc Says:

Not conceding and being a sore loser is a thing now.

  14. Clean House Says:

9 Super Bowls and 6 wins with a bad attitude- not my personal style, but I’ll take a chance on it for a few seasons. Whatever keeps this guy motivated.

  15. orlbucfan Says:

Wow, so Dale Earnhardt is a major ahole when he loses a car race? What a redneck jerk/joke. No surprise either. Was Waltrip a nice guy or not? Car racing ain’t my thing but sore losers are a dime a dozen, and stupid on top of it. I had the honor and pleasure to meet LeRoy Selmon a long time ago. What a rare, class act he was. A tall, super smart, gentle giant. Methuselah Brady doesn’t have the class to kiss LeRoy’s foot.

  16. Sesteprenelicus Says:

That amount of competitiveness is like, psycho territory. sorry….

  17. Charles W Cobb Says:

Tom Brady likes to win and always hits center field after a win. Not Tom’s first time walking off with poor sportsmanship. Seen him do it in New England, a poor loser. Then again Shannon Sharpe who I loved watching him play in Denver
Has also had his poor sportsmanship attitude after a big loss.
Losing for Tom Brady the way Tom lost that game. And yes I blame Tom for that one. With poor sportsmanship.

  18. Robmar Says:

Hey,let’s look at the big picture here…guys are getting worked up about a player not shaking an opponent’s hand while seemingly accepting a bevy of nfl players guilty of substance abuse, domestic violence and more. Nothing to look at here…

  19. stpetebucsfan Says:

    orlbucfan

NO all car drivers are not classless jerks. Most of them…at least through the 80’s were great. Bill Elliott is the exception and Dale Earnhardt was honest.

Darrell Waltrip was the classiest act I ever covered in sports. One day he and car owner Junior Johnson bring their Budweiser Chevy to Bristol for some test laps.
The car owner basically leased and owned the track that day but they let media in for the publicity.

For those not familiar…talking heads are the bane of TV…so we..they cover them with “b” roll and old term left over from film days. I would interview Darrell Waltrip…nice info visually boring…and then after 7 seconds or so you have Darrell talking but cover him with pics of his race car on the track.

The first half lap out the motor goes sour and DW pulls in for them to make the change. He looked at us waiting for “b” roll…he was a very smart man and knew how TV worked and what we needed…he told Junior Johnson hang on a moment he wanted to get a few laps in for the boys to get their video.

I have plenty of Darrell Waltrip stories and NONE of them reflect poorly on him.
Bill Elliott is a totally different story. Dale Earnhardt was fair…he told us upfront…if he wins he’ll be great with us if not stay the hell away.

  20. Ge Fit Says:

Shannon Sharpe what a loser! He couldn’t carry Tom Brady’s gym bag .

  21. Mike Waller Says:

Brady has almost always been a sore loser which makes him a loser in life .he is still pretty good on the field but he was better under Belichick. Hope he gets his a###kicked a few more times before this season is over. He doesn’t think the rules apply to him.

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

You mean to tell me we have a QB who is a bad loser like our prez?

  23. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Sure it’s petty and bush league. But Brady doesn’t have the checkered history off the field of another departed QB that certain local sports writers still obviously long for.

  24. David Says:

    1. Brady has done this for almost 20 years. It is nothing new
    2. I could care less. Half the team, on both sides, don’t mingle after every game.
    3. I’m surprised they’re even allowing it with all the Covid restrictions.
    4. They need to focus on consistent containment pressure on Mahomes and a balance offense

  25. Cobraboy Says:

As Dad CB used to say: “Show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser.”

  26. TJ Says:

I love how these moniker-complaining, Tom Brady-worshiping, Jameis-hating, Leftwich-scapegoating, #stopthesteal-protesting, non-JBF-ignoring, BA-despising, AB-judging, Scotty Miller-loving, Todd Bowles-waffling, Dungy-underating, Gruden-overrating, Alstott-venerating, Jason Licht-blaming, pro athlete salary-assessing, Gronkowski koolaid-drinking, incognito-low-key-Jimmy-the-Greek retreads try to pass off as “objective” when what they clearly “tolerate” and label as competitiveness with certan types of athletes is what they would quickly label as evidence of a”lack of character and discipline” with other “less glorified” athletes…not only is the hypocrisy (itself) appalling, but even worse than that is the arrogance you show in getting offended that someone who you might consider inferior would have the gall to call you out on it. Your inflated ego reveales your bias, you arrogant hypocrite. You deserve the sting of yet another underachieving season, with your GOAT at the helm notwithstanding, you high-minded vermin! Eat some humble pie…either stop vilifying men who wouldn’t be welcomed at your country club OR call a spade a spade and acknowledge that your NFLPA-ignoring, park-violating, home-invading, down-forgetting, jet ski-losing, handshake-shunning GOAT is as overtated and flawed and suspect as any other guy under center…especially the last guy you all ran outta town. But you wont, you lying hypocrite. So go ahead and wallow in your misery, because 4 years ago, 9 out of 10 of you “gurus” would have passed on the current MVP frontrunner, who I will guarantee will out play your GOAT this coming Sunday, hands down…how does 7-5 sound? Hypocrites!

    I had Bulljive’s first album.

  35. Debi Says:

Not a Shannon Sharpe fan but, I agree with what he said.

  36. 941Boltfan Says:

Doesn’t anyone Remember a few ago as the covid started to seemingly creep into almost every NFL team somehow? Its a horrible and curious thing, but BuccoBruce Arians said in a Zoom press call that he might have the whole team head straight to the lockeroom after games, as an enhanced protocol
? I remember and listened Coach!

  37. Fummer43 Says:

Brady has forgotten more about winning than anyone on the Bucs knows….. the fact that loudmouth Shannon Sharpe – a longtime Pats hater- is even commenting on this shows that Brady has made the Bucs temporarily relevant…. when was the last time the Bucs were 7-4 ? Somehow Brady is a problem?….enjoy him while he is here
