Snacks Harrison: I’ll Pass

October 11th, 2020

NFL DT Snacks Harrison.

Interesting intel from Mike Garafolo of NFL Network Saturday.

Garafolo claims the Bucs were in contract talks over the summer with sa mall mountain of a defensive tackle, former All-Pro Snacks Harrison. Snacks didn’t do it.

Generally, unless a guy desperately wants to chase a ring or is desperate for a job, probably the biggest reason a man turns down a job with an expected contender who just signed a six-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback would be the team didn’t show him enough money.

That’s understandable in Tampa, because even this summer the Bucs were going to have to watch their nickels and dimes.

Thursday night when Vita Vea went down with a season-ending injury, the Bucs called up Snacks again.

Oddly enough the day before Vea went down, Snacks, 6-3, 350, signed with Seattle on the Seahawks practice squad. So when the Bucs (Joe is assuming AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht) called Snacks, he told the Bucs, ‘Nah, I’m good.’

Per Garafolo, Snacks is staying in Seattle because he didn’t want to move quickly. That seems an interesting answer because a full-time player would make a whole lot more cash than the costs of moving.

Or did Snacks think he has a better shot at a ring with the Seattle than with Tampa Bay?

You can watch Garafolo’s report in the NFL Network video below.

Inconsistent. Work in progress. Maybe a tad overrated. Hard to judge with so many injuries to skill players on offense. Could get better. Could get worse. There is no question certain players have not played to their best abilities, both on offense and defense.

This team certainly needs to work on its second half offense. Outside of the Chargers game, the offense vanishes in the second half. Not going to beat too many good teams by only playing one half of offensive football.

Saw more frustration in Arians’ face Thursday night than at any time last year.

  5. REDZONE BA Says:

Wait – Arians has his perfect QB…..who will not lose games with TO’s. No excuses, BA….that was the only issue last year, was the QB TO’s.

  6. Joe in Michigan Says:

Fat guys don’t like the heat in Florida. Look at Donovan Smith.

  7. Buczilla Says:

“Shrug”. I’d rather have Harrison than not, but it’s not like he’s a game wrecker or anything. Time for Roches and dudes on the practice squad to prove their worth. Also time to see how Bowles adjusts because there is no one on the roster like Vea and very few players like him in the entire league.

    9 seasons $23,202,000 per Spotrac

    How much is enough?

I agree, with the injuries it is hard to tell. I think we’ve seen glimpses of what they can be and glimpses of what they are and unfortunately that’s an inconsistent football team. That last sentence you typed is damning to me as a fan. These stupid penalties aren’t supposed to happen with TB12. The frustrations of being a Buccaneers fan are supposed to be at ease. I don’t know why but for whatever reason this loss stung a lot more than any loss we had with Jameis. Maybe because I felt like they turned a corner after coming from 17 down. It gave me and there’s that word again “hope” that this year would be different. Even though they’re 3-2, all this last game did was leave me wanting to ask more questions. Appreciate everything y’all do on this website. I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else for my Bucs news!!

  10. Bob in Valrico Says:

More often than not, Leftowich offence goes into a turtle mode in the third quarter. You have to mix in chunk plays to keep defense guessing . BL passes on opportunities to pass on higher percentage first and second down too often. Brady hasn’t been quite as effective with pressure up the middle and the O ime
collapsing from this pressure and committing stupid penalties.

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Solid analysis Joe, and although I agree with everything you wrote, I think you left out one thing: ‘Poor discipline’. And IMO that falls squarely on coaching. Untimely penalties are absolutely killing this team. And THAT’S nothing but discipline.

Bucs have now been charged with 42 penalties for 410 yds in 5 games (82 YPG). And that’s resulted in 15 first downs by penalty for our opponents on our defensive side, but even more importantly IMO, penalties on our offense (and yes, on our S/Ts) have killed drives & cost us a lot of points.

If you saw RoJo’s press conference after the Bears’ game, he said repeatedly “We beat ourselves”. Most definitely. RoJo had 106 yds rushing on only 17 carries … 6.2 YPC average. Five of those runs came in the 4th qtr: for a grand total of 13 yds (our OLine didn’t git ‘er done when it counted IMO). Two of his last 3 runs resulted in negative yardage, the last one coming with 3 mins left in the game (those 2 rushes were his only negative ones of the whole night). The running game wasn’t used at all on our final 2 possessions after that negative run (nor was it used when we were 4th-and-1 at the Chicago 7-yd line with 5 mins left & settled for a FG). Our coaches shut down our running game & turned exclusively to our short passing game. Brady was 2-for-7 after that, all short passes. We became one-dimensional against an excellent defense … and it bit us in the ass. THAT’S on coaching.

  12. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

21 games into the Bruce Arians’ era, I surely did not think we’d be as undisciplined as we are. The penalties we make reek of Lovie Smith and Dirk Koetter, and frankly, it might be worse now than then.

It needs to be fixed, in a hurry.

  13. SmoothBayRider Says:

Marcell Dareus is currently a FA . Give his agent a call before somebody signs them to their practice squad .

  14. Ndog Says:

Simple answer, he looked at the QB’s and said I’ll stick with the non-statue.

    WHAT DOWN IS IT????

  15. All lives matter Says:

    We’ll get to 10-6

  16. All lives matter Says:

Ndog it must suck to be you.

You can’t run with the big dogs so you act like a rabid lil’ b|tch.

  17. Ndog Says:

I love it, you have nothing to retort my statement so you attack the messenger.

    Winning……!!!!!!!

  18. Bird Says:

    Ndog

    Dang. Great point.
Yah. He looked at brady, the winning-est qb of all time and said no way

If jameis would have been here with his 40% (4 out of 10 games) winning record …he would have been here in a heartbeat

    Hahahaha

    Yah. But you call facts
Dude your bias for another man Is so creepy its funny
I love it so keep it up. I cant stop laughing at how sad you are.

Last year bucs losses were anyone but jameis fault. Not the qbs fault even when he turned it over 5 times in a game
This year its only brady fault. Even when he doesnt turn the ball over.

  19. adam from ny Says:

waking up to no tampa game today is just horrible because thursday night’s game didn’t wet the palate enough to pull you thru a 10 day stint without the bucs…

  20. Rayjay1122 Says:

Most likely he declined because there is something fundamentally wrong with this football team that remains year after year. It’s like the stench of musty cigarette smoke lingering and the yellow stained ceiling years after smoking stopped indoors. It’s the same with the Bucs and losing. They are losers and that culture is permanent.

We have an overrated coaching staff and the players are undisciplined, unmotivated and not football smart as a whole. Only a few on the team are not lumped in that group but it’s a team sport and they get cancelled out by the majority of simpletons.

  21. spicoli Says:

30 Int’s, 7 pick 6’s (new NFL record), 12 fumbles all in one season!

  22. Ndog Says:

Rayjay1122 that can’t be as we were told all off season this team was perfect outside of our previous QB. So now we should have the perfect team since we got the greatest human being to currently walk in he planet.

Remember the oline looked bad cause our previous QB held the ball to long.

The kicker stunk because our previous QB did not give him confidence.

Our WR’s lacked YAC cause our previous QB was so inaccurate.

We didn’t win games caused our previous QB couldn’t finish drives and we had to settle for FGs.

We had so many penalties because our players did not respect our previous QB.

  23. Anonymous Says:

Nutdog, Jameis is tearing it up on the end of the Saints bench. Get over it.

What do you expect from a one dimensional team where the other team knows what coming.

  26. BUC CHEEKS Says:

Ndog, crawl out of Jameis butt for a few seconds and open your eyes jackass!!! HE’S GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let that sink in!!! GONE, BA-BYE! Ain’t never coming back, so just stfu already and go back in your hole! 🦀

  27. Jean Lafitte Says:

We are 3-2 ..the last time we started 3-2 was because of another QB not called Jameis Winston

  28. SOEbuc Says:

We’re really banged up is the problem at hand I see. I got a Super Bowl ring on the practice squad than start for another team. That sounds Donovan Smith fat and lazy. Bring on Khallil Smith.

  29. Go Bucs 72 Says:

A “professional,” athlete doesn’t get the nickname Snaks for no reason. 76 covers us on not giving a $hit meter, don’t need another dude giving half as$$ed efforts every game.

  30. Go Bucs 72 Says:

Why do the same 6 idiots argue about Jameis in every comment section, both sides of the argument are boring and tired, move on with your life.

  31. Ndog Says:

Go Bucs 72 to be clear they are arguing about Jameis I am simply pointing out I told everyone what the problems were the last 5 years and we were foolish to bring in a 43 year old QB when the one we had was plenty good enough and we should have continue to build towards the future not a ridiculous 2 year window.

  32. Ndog Says:

That and of course the coach is a liar, backstabbing, POS that can’t be fired soon enough.

  33. Pewter Power Says:

Wilson gonna carry Seattle for 16 games and the playoffs if so he’s the best quarterback in football because that is one horrible defense and at the bottom in almost every category.

  34. Natebucsfan Says:

Better shot at the ring with Seattle was probably a deciding factor.

  35. Allbuccedup Says:

If we are less than 5-3 at the halfway mark of the season I don’t believe we will make the playoffs. They second half of the season I see 4-4 is about the best with the teams we play Saints, Rams, Chiefs, Vikings and the sorry Dixie Chicks twice. By then Dirk K. will be the coach then again maybe if thats the case 5-3 is possible in the second half.

  36. Allbuccedup Says:

Snacks turning down at least 1 mil plus to come to tampa vs 147,000 to stay in Seattle doesn’t say a lot for our front office!

  37. #1bucfan Says:

NDOG 1 passing in the league means nothing if we don’t make the playoffs. Winning games and making the playoffs should be the only stat you should care about which Winston hardly did for us. He doesn’t get all the blame for the losing but he deff gets a lot of it. Get over Winston he’s gone. Get out of the past bro. Look forward or go be a saints fan.

  38. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

    >>Snacks… told the Bucs, ‘Nah, I’m good.’<>Per Garafolo, Snacks is staying in Seattle because he didn’t want to move quickly.<<

Here is the proof!… Get it? Didn't want to move quickly!?

  39. Ndog Says:

You people ⬆️ STILL don’t get it!

It’s not about leading the league in passing it’s about trying to fix the only thing we were good at while lying to the world in saying that everything is perfect. You were all lied to and believed every word which is laughable cause you had people like me on here telling you the truth, you just refused to believe it. But all of a sudden we have to many penalties, our oline is good, our receivers are not getting separation etc…

  40. August 1976 Buc Says:

NDOG – Jameis lost the locker room, and the ownership, Jameis has only to look in the mirror to see where the change needs takes place. He played his way out of Tampa Bay. I have been a Nole fan since 1979, was glad they drafted him. He has undeniable talent, 5000 yards, but he also lead the NFL for 5 years in the worst stat – turnovers. I unlike others here, still like Jameis and hopre one day he figures it out. But in no way has he shown yet that he can be trusted to consistantly play well. 4 games last year he was intercepted on the first pass of the game, and a 5th game he was intercepted on the first drive. Also over a 5 year period of time with Jameis the Bucs were not a fast starting team. Yes they started pretty fast sometimes, but overall not so much. I hope he does well, just not against the Bucs. When speaking about a player, at least give both sides of the story. Again Jameis lost the lockeroom, and management by not being trust worthy with the football. Teamates lose respect for you when you do not progress, and over 5 years he turned over the ball more then anyone in the league by a wide margin. GO BUCS!!!!

With a name like “snacks,” it sounds like he might be more interested in steady pizza money than he is in actually playing football.

I’m not brainwashed into believing this team is any like the lost decade.

We will take care of the Packers!!!!

  44. Rod Munch Says:

  46. JameisAlmighty Says:

Smart move by him. Anyone with a reasonable mind would rather stay on a practice squad with a well run organization than play for Jason Idiot Licht and have to deal with the Terrible Tom Brady fanboys.

  47. JameisAlmighty Says:

August.. The Bucs has a kicking problem.. No Running Game.. and Jameis had to do it all. Of course there will be picks when nfl defenses know you are going to throw most downs. I commend Jameis for his performance as a Buc. And if you are a Nole fan, you are have loyalty issues which makes you possibly a bad person. Not saying you are, but, maybe so considering how important loyalty is in sports. Noles don’t turn on Noles.
