Welcome Back Shaq!

September 27th, 2020

Safety dance.

How cool was that?

Joe is always honest: As the game entered the second quarter, it marked nine quarters to start the season that NFL sack king Shaq Barrett, who set a franchise record with 19.5 sacks last year, was shutout on sacks. And that was concerning.

But that changed when Shaq returned to Denver, the team that gave up on him. Today Shaq celebrated his coming home to Colorado (he also went to school at Colorado State) with two of the Bucs’ six sacks.

Cool of a dude that Shaq is, he credited the Bucs’ secondary with his ability to harass Broncos quarterback, former Gators signal-caller Jeff Driskel.

“We were getting good coverage on the back end,” Shaq said on the Buccaneers Radio Network. “That made it tough for the quarterback to throw.”

Shaq even pounced on Driskel for a safety!

Shaq also gave the offense props for getting a big lead early, which forced the Broncos to go to the pass much more and much earlier than they wanted. That allowed the Bucs’ pass rushers to pin their ears back and hunt Driskel, Shaq said.

Let’s hope Shaq has now pulled himself out of his early-season rut for good. If Shaq is rolling, along with Jason Pierre-Paul (three sacks) and the way Ndamukong Suh is hustling and Antoine Winfield is blitzing, this defense could be downright scary.

Hey Ndog……. You asked what the difference last week was between Brady throwing a pick 6 and being 1 and 1.
I told you the difference between this yr and last is that this yr we will be 2 and 1!
    I have it screenshot

  2. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

they need to stay away from the soft coverage they played on the Broncos td drive. Our front for can’t get enough pressure and our back field can’t cover receivers well enough to give them time to consistently pressure qbs w/o blitzing

  3. SB Says:

Not sure who was announcing but at one time he said our D looked like “Feeding Frenzy”

  4. Ndog Says:

SB who cares what you said ,THE FACTS are if we had this defense we would have been 2-1 last year as well.

Was it anyone’s on the offensives fault that D. Jones was basically unstoppable last year to our defense?

  5. ©MadMax Says:

Who was that small blitzer near the end of te game that was blazing up the middle? Was that Winfield? Good gosh he’s got speed to be near the end of the game. I only caught the last 7 mins of the 3rd Qtr and all of 4th.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Sharks with blood in the water….

Shaq was all over the place today….mainly after the QB……fantastic speed…..our entire defense looked good….we actually missed 2 or 3 picks…..
Denver only rushed for 42 yards….I’m quite sure our #1 run-stuffing defense has returned.

  7. Rayjay1122 Says:

This defense is becoming special. Even our trolls do not spew their negative garbage on defense articles. Defense is back as our identity in Tampa I do believe.

  8. Bucsfan951 Says:

2 things that make this defense WAY BETTER than last year

    1. 2nd yr in the system. Of course, that always helps out!

    2. A qb that doesn’t give up the ball where the other team is spotted an average of 7.5 points per game.

Thank god we have a real leader amongst men!

WE SERVING ONLY CROWN TONIGHT AFTER THIS BUCS WIN!!!

  9. Swampbuc Says:

If Jameis was QB for the Bucs today he would have thrown the Broncos right back in it eith a pick 6 and at least one other pick. That’s the mercurial one’s MO and until he somehow stifles that reflex, it will be the same for him.

    There’s a reason he’s a 3rd string QB now.

  10. Joe in Michigan Says:

To the people that believed Beckles about Shaq needing pass rush moves…Please watch games, last year and this one.

  11. Cobraboy Says:

The Vea sack was a thing of beauty.

  12. SB Says:

    Blah Blah Blah Ndog.
Change the narrative at will as you usually do.
Fact is your man crush is better at holding down a clipboard and we are heading towards 3 and 1!

    A man of taste!

  16. Bojim Says:

    Dog boy. Shut up.

  17. Topdoggie Says:

Ndog if Jamis had this D he would have been in the playoffs once probably twice. He is gone so get over it. I am sure he will kick our butt sometime in the future but not this year. And most likely not next year either.

  18. Bucsfan951 Says:

JW had this defense lash year!!!

    2019 buccaneers defense

15 drives started inside of the Bucs own 30 yard line.

They scored 5 tds and came away with 0 points in 5 drives.

BUT 15 DRIVES STARTED WITHIN THEIR OWN 30 YARD LINE.

THE POOR DEFENSE DIDNT STAND A CHANCE

SORRY FOR THE MESSED UP TYPOMG. THE CROWN IS FLOWING TONIFJT.

  19. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

The red piping on that uniform really makes it shine. So very much better than the nasty red battery-powered pajamas they were forced to wear previously.

I haven’t had this much fun watching the Bucs D since Derrick “Who’s Your Favorite Player” Brooks was ushered out the door! Winfield is really impressing. I don’t think we’ve had this much talent at one time ever. And one could argue that this linebacking corps may just have 4 1st team pro bowlers. David, White, Shaq, and JPP.

No team has a better LB corps than the Bucs! Change my mind…

  22. unbelievable Says:

I was never concerned about Shaq- because even though he wasn’t racking up stats those first 2 weeks, he was getting A TON of pressure and forcing plays towards other defenders. That’s what good defense is all about!

With that said, it was great to see him get some sacks and that safety! So funny too b/c right before that play I said to my wife- man it would be great if Shaq forced a safety right here… and then BAM! There it was!
