Arians Evaluates Antoine Winfield, Jr. Debut

The head coach has weighed in!
The film study is complete and Bucco Bruce Arians has issued an assessment of his 22 year old starting safety fresh out of the University of Minnesota, Antoine Winfield, Jr.
”He was really solid. For a rookie against an offense that has a lot of trickery to it, Antoine played really well,” Arians said on Bucs Total Access. “I’d have liked to see him get that interception in the end zone; he was so close. Again, he played very physical and very smart.”
Encouraging stuff — after a discouraging Sunday. Did anyone have a tougher debut matchup than Winfield on Sunday?
Yeah, Tristan Wirfs drew an All-Pro defensive end, but you can help lineman far easier than you can cover for a safety. Joe’s very eager to see the continued development of Winfield. Sabby The Goat he is not.

Winfield was great. The lights are not too bright for him obviously.

Great pick! Amazing how Licht can nail some picks and just bomb others, I guess that is job. If it was that easy we would all do it

Much better production than we got our of one of our 4th round picks plus $10 million (Gronk)…..jury is out…..will give him one or two more games to contribute.
Very happy with Wirfs & Winfield….

jjbucfan, I would rather have drafts of drafts of 2-3 out of 7 who are all-stars, and the other 4-5 be garbage, then 7 average guys who can’t get us to the super bowl. This team has the talent it does right now because of those 2-3 guys each draft in the last few years.

That’s why this defense will keep us in games until the offense can get it together. Just don’t keep giving the defense a short field because inside the redzone is almost a guaranteed td to be scored. They had 5 straight 3 & outs I think but it wasn’t enough because of some mistakes and the offense wasn’t doing its part

Sabby “the goat” rather than “the GOAT”, indeed. It appears that sports writers as well as Buccaneer fans have long memories when it comes to previous failures. (Sabby Piscitelli last wore a Buc uniform in 2009).
Looks to me like Wirfs and Winfield are both going to prove to be home run hits for our 2020 draft.

Again tired of the turnovers. I get it’s literally the 1st game but geez. Hopefully we get better and play a more complete game. I just don’t get the penalties tho. Just seems every year no matter the coach we have a lot of penalties. Anyone else feel the same way ?

@Tampabuscsbro on the Godwin hit, he was flagged for personal foul. Hit to the head. He hit him with his shoulder…but in Godwin’s noggin’. Surprised Godwin wasn’t pulled after the hit.

Yeah…the officiating was inconsistent, and frankly, just bad. But that is NO for you. And regarding dirty play…you expect Payton “bounty hunter” to change his stripes?

This was just his first game. Our DBs clicked the second half of last season. AW will get better. That’s fun the think about.
