“They Are Going To Kick The Crap Out Of Most Of The Teams”

August 5th, 2020

All in on Bucs.

It took one move for a national radio host to fully buy-in and chug Team Glazer’s Kool-Aid.

Last week when it was announced that the Bucs signed veteran running back Shady McCoy, several NFL observes suddenly went from chortling about the Super Bowl chatter surrounding the Bucs to believers.

One such person is Colin Cowherd of FS1. Since Shady came to Tampa, the former Tampa Bay area sports television and radio personality went from thinking the Bucs are a cute story to inhaling the smoke that the Bucs are a serious contender for football’s richest prize.

This week on his weekday FS1 show, Cowherd invited football fans young and old to hop on the Bucs bandwagon with him.

“They are going to kick the crap out of most of the teams they are going to play,” Cowherd said. “This is only the second time in Tom Brady’s career he’s had unbelievable talent. This offensive roster is better, in my opinion, than the Randy Moss-Wes Welker team. They are stacked at tight end. They are stacked at wide receiver. They have upgraded at running back.

“Todd Bowles has that defense — one of the best young linebackers. The last seven games they were either the No. 1 or No. 2 defense in the NFC.

“Folks, this was a 7-7 team down the stretch and they had a quarterback with 30 picks and six pick-sixes.”

So why does Cowherd believe the Bucs are bound to host the Super Bowl come February in the Den of Depression?

It all revolves around Brady. Cowherd believes that the Bucs, just with Brady and his work habits rubbing off on teammates, will raise their collective games. Cowherd believes that Brady is the glue that the franchise has missed  in seasons past.

Joe thinks Cowherd might be onto something. At the risk of jinxing the Bucs, has anyone opt-ed out for the season due to The Sickness? Nope.

This was a subject on “Movin’ the Chains” yesterday heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio. Co-host Jim Miller, a former Bucs quarterback, said it is no coincidence that a Bucs player has yet to opt-out and the team’s new quarterback is Brady.

Cowherd believes the Bucs could meet Baltimore in the Super Bowl. You will have to watch the video to see Cowherd’s projection of the Bucs’ record, but he sort of blows his credibility claiming the Crows will run the table in the regular season.

Joe might have to come up with a new name for Ray Jay other than “Den of Depression”

  2. Mitch Says:

Jaymiss Pick6 that would be nice. If I remember correctly Joe has said/written that when the Bucs have a winning record at home (above 500 in a season) he will drop the moniker.

    So much hype…………….

what’s scary is how much the virus will affect all NFL rosters

the virus will be the official “12th man” on every NFL starting roster

I don’t remember any time in history from a national media perspective where was more positive vibe on the Bucs as SB contenders. Even when they actually made their SB run in the 2001 season with winnng seasons and playoff appearances in years prior to that, there were always one more teams upstaging them–for example, the Rams in 2000, and in 2001/2002, the Raiders. Even with the COVID threatening out there, I have not seen much optimism since. The closest was excitement before the 2017 season with Hard Knocks and Koetter’s “best roster ever,” only to see that destroyed by America’s Turnover Machine, Winston, on the field, his Uber disgrace off the field, and a putrid Mike Smith D.

The excitement is real, and it’s not just local! Love it!

Right there with you Colin ! How many games last year we up big at halftime only for Jameis to choke away a lead in the second half. I don’t see Brady doing that !

  7. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

Roy T – Actually, there was tons of hype for the Bucs heading into the 1998 season. Yep, we were the chic pick following the comeback season in 1997, and big playoff win at home against Detroit. Anyone remember the hit Lynch put on Barry Sanders? Epic. Anyway, the ‘98 Bucs wilted under the spotlight and fell to a mediocre 8-8. Hopefully, the difference this time will be Brady and a much better offense. Gettin’ close.

  8. Roy T. Buford Says:

@BFS76…that’s true, and it was the uni’s and stadium were still fairly new, right? I wasn’t living locally at the time, but that was all BIG!

  9. Ndog Says:

Yes they were 7-7 down the stretch despite having Peyton Barber at running back and a defense on pace for the most yards in history pass defense wise, thanks to………?

Yeah people just conveniently leave that part out. I wonder why?

People are so gullable, it’s truly hilarious.

  10. 813bucboi Says:

    ndog

at 7-7, JW threw 6INTs in the final 2games….

yeah, you just conveniently left that part out. I wonder why?

because it proves jw is a BUST!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  11. Ndog Says:

So 813 by that logic our kicker, who missed three kicks in the last game sucks. And our defense who gave up back-to-back game tying field goal drives to out of the playoff contention Falcons team also sucks.

Also I love how everyone says well Tom Brady didn’t have any receivers that’s why he struggled so much yet in the last two games we lost, Jameis is solely to blame when he had no Mike Evans no Chris Godwin no Scottie Miller a torn meniscus and a broken throwing hand but yeah Brady had all the problems and James had it so easy didn’t he, do you guys even hear yourselves?

  12. Joe Says:

Gotta win five home games first (in a season). That hasn’t happened since Chucky was here.

  13. Joe Says:

the virus will be the official “12th man” on every NFL starting roster

    Good way of putting it.

  14. 813bucboi Says:

if JW doesnt throw 2INTs vs ATL the defense doesnt give up back-to-back game tying field goal…..

missing mike, chris and scotty means nothing because JW threw 24INTs before those players missed the final 2games…..JW was already on his way to leading the league in INTs….

the kicker was a rookie….i expect more out of the 5th year QB that was drafted #1 overall to lead us to a W vs a rookie kicker…..

imagine JW having to play with edleman, sanu and n’keal harry……lol….JW wouldnt had 45INTS!!!!!….

JW had it easier than you think…..LOL….

    #JW IS A BUST!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

I know people LOVE to blame the kicker!
Quick math on Pro Football Reference dot com says Matt Gay cost us LESS than 35 points the ENTIRE YEAR!
How many points did JW give the other team?

I don’t know the answer but you seem to. Can you enlighten us as to how many games the Bucs were up big at halftime and Winston choked?

  18. SB Says:

Here look at it for yourself.

  19. SB Says:

Actually looks like only 29 points!
Jameis gave that away in the last two games alone!
    lol!

  20. PSL Bob Says:

Call me a sheep all you want. If Coherd’s take doesn’t get you fired up, nothing will. Yeah, I know, we’ve heard it all before. But, we never before had Brady at the helm. Take away all the interceptions and inaccurate throws from last year and this offense is going to be hard to handle. We’ve still got one shady area that no one seems to be talking about, and that’s our FG kicker. Hopefully, the offense will put up TDs, and Gay’s role will be inconsequential.

More FAKE NEWS. The defense gave up those two drives BEFORE Winston’s second int in OT.

When you are looking through beer goggles all the time you may not see correctly. Please get your facts straight.

    29 POINTS FELLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. ocala Says:

He is spot on. I’ve been saying for months that this offseason is an advantage for Brady even though he is learning a new offense. Joe and the vast majority of the sports media have been lamenting at what a disadvantage no offseason is for the Bucs.
That would make sense for most teams with a new QB, but Brady is different than any other QB in NFL history. The GOAT was coaching Buc players while others teams were sitting at home.

One day I wake up ready for a championship the next day I feel as if the only sport I am going to see this year is beach volleyball. I still maintain that our priority should focus on players, coaches, supporting staff and Fan safety is all that matters. I read all the Buc’s preseason articles and fan posts but fear they collectively represent unfounded aspirations at best. Because I am an avid Buc’s fan I will continue to hope for that first Brady to Evans TD however based on other publications and sports my optimism is guarded. By the way what happened to Defense Rules? Always enjoyed his post.

The real question you should be asking is how many games did the defense blow in the second half when the offensive got us ahead, that’s the real question you should be asking because I bet you it’s a few more than the quarterback blew, but we probably won’t discuss that will we.

  28. Oneilbucs Says:

We have to tell the truth about Jamies they ask him to throw the ball 45 to 50 times a game .They didn’t provide him with the right players around him . They didn’t give him a running game or a defense that can close out games when needed . To be honest and yall know that it was more games lost because of our kicker and that’s why we have been asking for a new kicker every year and why you think they are bringing in another kicker to compete with Matt Gay . And again who said that a quarterback should throw 45 times a game ? Our defense gave up 3 games last year and we couldn’t stop the saints from scoring at all . So what do you think a quarterback who’s hated by the media and the fan base and plus he’s young and every time the team lose regardless how well he plays he will be the blame for it ? He’s going to press because he cares about winning more than the team did and that’s just the truth . Jamies won on every level and he proved that he can play in the NFL look at his numbers . They are better than Payton Manning first five years and Payton had a hall of fame runningback in the back field with a better defense .

  34. CrackerBall Says:

I actually prefer when we can sail below expectations… We have been the fashionable pick on Good Morning Football for the last couple of years – and
we see how well that has worked out for us. Tom Brady’s humility, razor-sharp focus and constant desire to improve will help us from reading (and believing) the headlines and just play football.

    At least, I hope so.
