LeSean McCoy Opens Up

August 27th, 2020

Gives a state of the Bucs address

Man, Bucs running back LeSean McCoy really took the ball and ran with it after Joe asked him a question this morning following practice.

This will put quite a smile on the faces of Bucs fans, and surprise more than a few.

JoeBucsFan.com: What do you like about the makeup of this team now that you’ve been around for a while and really gotten to soak it in?

LeSean McCoy: As I look at this team, especially the offense. I don’t see any flaws. Obviously we can get better; and there’s days where a group doesn’t do well. But overall, the biggest thing that jumps out is the offensive line. Them guys are good. They play well together. They communicate. They’re tough. They’re a smart group. That’s rare. It’s always like up and down. Maybe this side is really, really smart, and this side is really physical, or vice versa, but they’re all together. They’re solid.

I mean, then you got a Hall of Fame quarterback who gets the ball out quick, who knows where to go with the ball, can pick apart the defense, can read the coverages and read the blitzes.

The wide receivers, you know, them guys are the real deal. Tight ends. And then in the backfield, when you got all that going on as a running back, all these years I’ve played, it makes it easier when you have so much going on on the right side. You just get your yards in there with a light box, as in no defenders really preparing for the run.

RoJo, I mean he’s one of the most talented running backs I’ve seen in a long time. It makes me remember to like when I was in my third or second year, just how naturally quick [he is], acceleration, agility. He has a lot of them tools, man. He’s really, really good. Some things he can work on, I think all of us. But I think collectively as a group we can help each other out. So as an offense, I’m really excited. And I’m prepared to have a good year this year.

Wow. Lotta meat on that buffet.

Quick takeaways for Joe:

*If McCoy loves the offensive line cohesion and unity so much, then that means Tristan Wirfs is looking strong to his trained eye. Hallelujah!

*Regarding running backs thriving when defenses are much more concerned about the pass, well, what happened last year?

*”I don’t see any flaws.” Joe doesn’t see any either on the offensive side of the ball. The Bucs ranked third in points and total offense last year. Can they repeat that? If not, ranking, say, sixth in each category with half the turnovers should be a game-changer.

I agree. Ranking 6th in points and total offense and cutting the turnovers in half. Sounds like a reasonable expectation for this team.

We all know that other things being equal that will lead to more wins.

No Wirfs, no Gronk, mentally checked out Howard.

Good to hear praises and critiques from an outsider who was a damn good player and who also played on well-respected caliber teams.

I like what he said but he’s not going to bash his team. Right now, someone is over in Jacksonville talking about how great they are on the offensive side of the ball… it’s happening in Chicago and Carolina as well… i don’t think it’s happening in Washington, however… nobody is that big of a liar. That team is a mess and definitely my early favorite for first overall pick.

They weren’t worried about the pass last year…..that’s why they stacked the box so much….

New Orleans will be a great litmus test for the season. No excuses to lose, but every excuse not to win because NO was the stronger team.

  14. SB Says:

Thanks Joe for posting the link for me.
I will need to post it quite a few more times to reach enough Bucs fans to have a good contest. Thanks again

    ……….

After Hurricane Laura the game may be in Tampa

I don’t see a reason why the Buc’s offense shouldn’t be as good as, if not better than, it was last year. There may not be as many bombs thrown this year, but Brady’s accuracy is going to result in many more YAC. The running game should be better than last year. Plus, you know with Gronk, Brate and OJ in the mix, Brady will frequently connect for TDs in the red zone. And, with fewer interceptions, the offense will be able to run more plays. So, why would production be down this year?

  17. Eddie Says:

New Orleans is a great team. Good test for the first game. Bring it on.

    Ahhhh, the offseason.

I’ll wait until I see the Oline not make the QB run for his life, and when our RBs can actually get positive yards.

He willingly praised the play of the one teammate who is his biggest rival for playing time. Anyone who displays this kind of character, I am a fan of.
