More Hitting, Tackling To Ground In 2020 Camp

Talks camp

Joe had a question for Bucco Bruce Arians today about the softness/toughness of his training camp after a later-than-usual start and the abolition of preseason games.

Coach, will there be more hitting this year and more tackling to the ground?

“Yes, as far as tackling to the ground,” Arians replied. “We did it a couple days last year; but then we had some live stuff with Miami and then preseason games. So, you have to be very careful tackling yourselves, but you still got to tackle somebody. So we’ll probably have more than we’ve had in the past, maybe one or two days where we’re actually scrimmaging each other just to get the contact facing cut blocks and all those things you’re going to face in the first ball game.”

Joe expected this from Arians, though Joe suspects there won’t be consensus around the NFL when it comes to how coaches approach hitting each other.

The Bucs, of course, face a physical and top-shelf defense on opening day in New Orleans, in addition to what might be the NFL’s best offensive line. That’s a situation, Joe believes, where you can go in soft and come out with a “W.”

Tired of hearing how “great” the Saints are-
Just do what the Vikings did in the playoffs- stop the run and put Brees on his ass.

Due to Covid-19, the NFL will be converting to flag football this season. 🙂

In all reality how can we practice “safer tackling” without practice?
    I mean FOR REAL????
NFL says it wants to do away with ‘targeting’ and helmet down tackling , which is what most of us were taught. (not head hunting).
HOW in HEdoublehockeysticks do these guys learn that if they can’t safely tackle their own Teammates for Chrisesakes.
