Jason Licht Addresses The 2019 Season

February 25th, 2020

GM Jason Licht

Today at the NFL Scouting Combine, general manager Jason Licht emerged from his 10-month hiatus from a formal news conferences and Joe asked the GM to address the 2019 season as a whole.

Did he like it?

“You know, it was a strange year because [of] so many good things,” Licht said. “You know, the defense was as good as it’s been since I’ve been here. And I think we have a chance to surpass good and be great next year.

“I think the last eight games we ended up in top-3 in a lot of categories, top-5 in a lot and top-10 in most. It was really great seeing that. It was fun to go to the games to just watch our defense because we knew that we were going to have a chance. Our offense obviously put a lot of points on the board and had a lot of yards. There was a lot of things that didn’t go our way on that side of the ball that put our defense on the field too early and got behind too many games, but I just love the fight of the team. I think it’s a different vibe than I’ve ever seen here, and I give Bruce [Arians] all the credit and the staff. We’re excited we think we have a chance to be special.”

So there you have it, Licht loved the numbers in the second half of the season,  in addition to the presence and strength of the defense, and he found nice ways to say interceptions were killing the Bucs.

Joe’s encouraged by Licht saying how much the vibe has changed at One Buc Palace. It sure needed to.

Actually Jason, there were 30 things!

    Clueless Licht,

So Arians was on the NFL network doing a live interview and said they know their plan with Winston just hasn’t say anything. He was asked if he Winstonnis coming back and he all but said yes other then for a big vet QB which would be a terrible idea so be ready for JW to be back in town Ned year!!!!

He’s been rehearsing that speech on all of his coffee runs the last 10 months and delivered it flawlessly. Pat on the head…now get me a blueberry muffin next time!

  5. LordCornelius Says:

Man I’ll buy into all this crap about the culture/vibe changing when we are in the playoffs. We had a losing record in 2019.

As of now this is just fluffy GM BS talk to me that we get every year.

  6. Ocala Says:

    I don’t agree with you @Anonymous.

I don’t think you say what Arians said unless you want a different QB. Regardless, the only way Jamies is on the team in 2020; in my opinion, is via the franchise tag.

  7. SC Bucs Fan Says:

If any of you think Licht or Arians is going to tip the Bucs hand when it comes to a QB you are denser then lead.

  8. Bird Says:

Thats not a ringing endorsement for offense

Could bucs brass be playing hardball to knock down jameis contact amount And number of years ? Maybe

But. They are giving ringing endorsements to other players And other position groups. Remember how arians talked about Mccoy and then he was out the door

Jameis may not be out the door ….he just may be option C or D

  9. Jim Says:

JL regarding our offense says a “lot of things…didn’t go our way on that side of the ball.” Is he talking about Jameis? Just wondering…

  10. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

I certainly wouldn’t be feeling too wanted right now if I were Winston.

  11. D-Rome Says:

What’s up with the ol’ backstabber and his way of describing the previous season? The 2019 season was a “strange year” and he “cringed” at the expectations of the 2018 season.

  12. Adrnagy Says:

Who cares about your pee wee comments. what you think … plan c or d ? Garbage thinking.

With all those weapons on offense I find it ironic he went straight to the defense.
If you asked me Licht is trying his damndest to walk around the Jameis debate.

we had some games that were awesome, powerful statement games like vs Rams and vs Seahawks then of course we had plenty of the multi interception meltdowns.

Fun to watch Shaq and JPP and d-line and fun to see secondary get more confident even when they were getting penalties-they were in the game and playing–espec. Carlton–dude just needs to clean up his technique a notch and he will be a top corner.

Jameis should get a 1-2 yr contract but we need a rookie to train while we have Arians, like Eason, Love or even Jalen Hurts.

Joe thinks 7-9 equals a positive vibe in Tampa. That’s the epitome of being a loser. We could be 0-16 with Jamoist at the helm and the nut huggers would call it a success. All blame would go to the defense, kicker, wide receivers, running backs, tight ends, offensive line, and the wind. But never the turnover machine. He’s the only one allowed to drive this franchise into the ground. #NoPlayoffs
