Nearing The All-Time Greats

December 23rd, 2019

Telling stat

Lavonte David’s strong season has been lost in the shuffle a bit.

At linebacker, fans have been more focused on rookie savior Devin White, who has had his ups and downs as he develops. Of course, there’s been a load of attention on the sack totals of Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul, in addition to the roller coast ride of the Bucs secondary.

But David has been so steady all season. Is it his best season? No, but he’s earned his nearly $10 million salary.

David notched his 21st career forced fumble on Saturday, and while that might not sound like a lot, consider Derrick Brooks had 24 through his 14-year career. Rondé Barber forced 15 fumbles. Warren Sapp had 19. Simeon Rice, who was known for forced fumbles, had 28 through his 12 seasons. The bone-crushing hits of John Lynch registered 16 forced fumbles in 15 years of play.

No Pro Bowl for David this season. Not even alternate status. So Joe was extra glad David had a strong game on national television on Saturday, leading the Bucs with eight solo tackles and showcasing his all-around game.

Hard to believe David turns 30 in January — eight Bucs seasons and no playoffs.

Only player ever to make the ALL PRO team and not get a Pro Bowl invite. It’s disgusting how the NFL has treated David over the years – but the people who cover football know how incredible he is.

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

ashame he hasn’t gone to the Probowl

and even though I think the Probowl is a complete joke………..he deserves it

  3. TOM Says:

Pro Bowl nothing more than a popularity contest. David has been a pro bowl talent to the Bucs fans for years. I have not watched the Pro Bowl in a number of years. IMO they should do away with it. Its become nothing more than a joke.

  4. diggler Says:

David is part of the cabal that ran Shiano, this will always taint his legacy. He played to par this year after many years or sub-par play, this isn’t a reason to give the guy a pro bowl nod geezus

Joe Bucs fan ran by retards, for retards.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    LVD “America’s Linebacker”……

  6. Sport Says:

Diggler, not sure why you haven’t been banned yet, until then, please share tour intimate knowledge of the full members of the cabal and their activities.

I am not a hater of Schiano, he was dealt a stinking pile of ish. Did he go too far at times, sure, did he get fairly judged on his good attributes, heck no.

David hah career numbers under his leadership.

So please, enlighten us with the facts you have.

    I’ll hold my breath…

BTW – you do realize if you keep coming here to read and post, you are what you say we are.

    In BA I Trust!

  7. PragueBucsFan Says:

Sub par play? Diggler youre not a Bucs fan. Go troll some other teams page

  8. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Joe

Maybe if you paid more attention to him (and others) on this here corner of the inter web he might get a little more credit?

I mean you could cut the Soiled Messiah stories to only 7-8 a day and I think we’d still be ok.

    Just sayin….

  9. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    DoooshLaRue …..”Soiled Messiah”

    funny^^^^^^^^

awwww cmon….he gotta have something to fill his web pages

  10. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Off topic but Bucs are officially out of Buccaneer cove – last place in the division. Someone pop the champagne! Lol

  11. Adrnagy Says:

I’ve never watch a pro bowl game.

  12. Slugglife Says:

Yeah, the ship is limping out of the harbor right now. More of a three hour tour.

  13. Bucsfan951 Says:

@diggler: do you even think before typing? Did he have a down year in his career? Ok, you can’t argue that he didn’t. But you make him sound like he is just an average player. Geez, maybe you’re the retard?

  14. Deez days Says:

Love me some levonte David … great pro

  15. Rodney Munch Says:

    Player A vs Player B…

    A. 145 tackles, 7 sacks, 13 QB hits, 21 TFL, 5 INTs, 10 PDs, 2 FF…
    B. 166 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 QB hits, 10 TFL, 4 INTs, 7 PDs, 0 FF…

    ………………………..

Player A is David, who did not get a Pro-Bowl invite that year….
Player B is Luke Kuechly who was the defensive MVP of the league…

Luke wasn’t the NFL defensive MVP, he wasn’t even the best LB in the NFC South that year.

  16. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Pretty sure Diggler is Matt Schiano.

Your dad sucked as a NFL head coach, get over it.

LVD has had pro bowl numbers almost every year. Most underrated 4-3 OLB in the league and he is making a damn fine 3-4 MLB as well.

Schiano is a quitter….at least he never gave up on a kneel right?

  17. Patrickbucs Says:

    Hi Rod,

Good points, however it’s been done many times besides LD. Sucks he hasn’t made it though.

LVD should and must go in the ROH before GMC!!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

    @Rod – 100%

  20. #1bucfan Says:

LISTN UP if you don’t like LVD then there’s seriously something wrong with you an your not worth my time. THANK YOU LVD FOR GIVING US SOMETHING TO WATCH THESE PAST 8 Season he’s a beast an he’d me a pro bowler an all pro on any of the 31 other teams. Sorry you play for Tampa you deserve better

  21. Posey99 Says:

I’d really like to see what this defense can do when they don’t have to play from behind all the time.

  22. Posey99 Says:

“I mean you could cut the Soiled Messiah stories to only 7-8 a day and I think we’d still be ok.”

Yes, I agree. Shed some light on the positive instead of the bonehead throwing the ball to the other team.

  23. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Surprized tmaxcon hasn’t chimed in with his hugemongous mancrush he has for LVD. He loves him some LVD , Tony Dungy and Ronde Barber his all time favs!!!😂🤣😂

  24. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

It is true you mention a certain poster and you instantly go into moderation! Too funny man!!!

  25. diggler Says:

This “all time great” for LVD is the dumbest take I’ve I’ve read on this site since the Joes were clamoring for Johnny Manziel.

Just because the Joe’s run a garbage fan-zine for the worst team in the NFL and somehow warrant a press pass (how low the standards have fallen) doesn’t mean that they are the deciders on any “all time great” claims.

    @Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

LVD has had pro bowl numbers almost every year. Most underrated 4-3 OLB in the league and he is making a damn fine 3-4 MLB as well.

^^^1 year is was good enough for the pro bowl 1. Explain the other years? Does that really make LVD an all time great? God no.

@Rodney Munch – that was a good year for LVD but what about the rest of his career? Also you’re comparing an ILB to OLB which isn’t fair to LVD cause it only shows how much better Kuechly is to LVD.

Please look who LVD would have to play better than to get a nod in the pro bowl. Khalil Mack? Chandler Jones? Our very own Barrett? Come on guys!

  26. 541BucsFan Says:

The real story about L David is he became THE TEAM LEADER this year. He’s not just a captain, he is The Captain. His voice, his leadership, and his desire inspired the team’s new identity. His leadership should have a generational effect on White, too. He’s the teams MVP.

  27. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Diggler (or whatever your other Usernames are) your pretentious, too good for this website attitude is ironic considering your take is completely inaccurate and of much less quality than even some of the worst so called “retards”.
Calling someone sub-par is fine but where are any facts to back your statement?
I get it, it’s just your opinion but it’s a delusional thought on par with some of the worst Tampax’s rants.

  28. Adrnagy Says:

You just saw it against Texans. TIE at halftime. What happens at the start of 3rd defense gives up 8min drive 3pts. Winston ties the game. Then the defense gives up another long drive and 3pts. No stops. One the whole game. We are not there yet in defense. We will dominate next year.

  29. Adrnagy Says:

You might get your wish against falcons. And will be a good thing to watch. Let’s see if this young secondary can stop Julio. Everyone will be playing lights out. Last game baby.

  30. BigHog Says:

diggler: coach toes on the line is a bigot…I gave him a race card …and he took it with pride ….he’s no longer a part of the organization!!!

  31. 813bucboi Says:

funny how after KWON, GMC and VHG got a W vs us, joe has kept their names off this site…..lol….

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!!

  32. SmittyToiletBowles Says:

    Rod
Disgusting how the NFL has treated him? Lol. Guy makes millions. Its the fans who dont vote him in. He goes to work and does his job very well and doesnt talk much. Thats how it should be. The squeaky wheels get the oil. Like u said he gets respect from other players and writers. Not sure why he’d care about anything else, unless he has pro bowl bonuses in his contract. I love the guys who let their play do their talking.

  33. Rodney Munch Says:

SmittyToiletBowles – Actually stupid there’s more to pro bowl voting than fan voting. Learn the rules dully then get back to me.

  34. Posey99 Says:

True, but jameis gave up 7 points by himself as well as turning the ball over with 3 more interceptions. Shouldn’t have been tied. With the lead you call different plays. We have to let the defense rest
