Super In The Slot

Big numbers.
Chris Godwin plays the slot a lot. And he seems to be damn good at it. One of the best in the NFL in fact.
The good people of NFL Films, compiling data for BSPN’s NFL Matchup, have run the numbers. They are impressive for Godwin, the third-year Bucs receiver.
Currently, Godwin is averaging a crazy 15.6 yards a catch as a slot receiver. And that’s right at his overall average of 15.5 yards a catch.
Generally one doesn’t think of slot receivers stretching the field. But Godwin is challenging NFL norms with his play.

I love Godwin, but I think a lot of this is on Winston. It seems like to me he gets comfortable with 1 receiver and that’s almost exclusively who he throws too. He throws some to Evans, but to me it has been almost exclusive. It used to be Brate. I wish he’d spread the ball around. Is that the issue or is nobody else opened ever?

Evans is still the best slot receiver on the Bucs. Too bad the coaches don’t know that.
