“I Don’t Recall”

Can’t recall coming unraveled against the Bucs

Gerald McCoy is very different cat.

And a new example emerged when he was asked about the Buccaneers this week.

For so many years in Tampa, McCoy had a strange relationship with media. He loved the cameras but often felt the media was out to get him.

Some were.

Former Bucs guard Ian Beckles bludgeoned McCoy almost daily on his radio show. And Joe knows McCoy was pissed in 2016, when Bucs beat writer Scott Reynolds wrote about how McCoy was jealous of Jameis Winston. McCoy claimed that was nonsense and Reynolds subsequently wrote that he screwed up and was dead wrong.

McCoy was no fan of Joe, and Joe believes it started during the 2010 training camp. McCoy was a rookie and fellow second-round-pick rookie Brian Price looked dominant in training camp. So Joe asked McCoy to give his impressions of Price and, man, McCoy got annoyed. It sure seemed like a reasonable question.

McCoy also was unhappy about this 2015 JoeBucsFan.com story. McCoy had claimed he didn’t enjoy his rookie season and he didn’t want Jameis Winston to suffer the same fate by putting too much pressure on himself. Joe expressed disbelief of how McCoy playing for a 10-6 Bucs team in 2010, with leaders like Earnest Graham, Cadillac Williams, Davin Joseph, Ronde Barber and Barrett Ruud was a bad memory for McCoy. Was there really that much pressure on McCoy with all eyes on Josh Freeman’s magical season and breakout years from Mike Williams and LeGarrette Blount?

Overall, McCoy ran hot and cold with Joe. For some reason, McCoy was exceptionally warm in the locker room to Joe following the Bucs’ loss in Baltimore last season, going out of his way to thank Joe for traveling to cover the team, among other things.

Regardless, McCoy has moved on to Carolina and local Panthers media found McCoy questioning their line of questioning this week. (You can watch it in the short video below).

McCoy was asked about his meltdown against Bucs center Ryan Jensen in Week 2 and the subsequent fine he got, and McCoy dramatically claimed ignorance. “I don’t recall,” he said. There’s more, including McCoy pleading for questions he can answer.

McCoy also explains his 2011 trip with the Bucs to England was a blast. Meanwhile, the Bucs got pasted early in that game against the Bears, trailing 21-5 after three quarters, and that game sparked a 10-game losing streak to close the season and implode the franchise. For most Bucs fans, that England trip was a horrific turning point in the post-Chucky era; McCoy looks back on it fondly.

Joe sure hopes McCoy doesn’t have a bounce back game against the Bucs and their depleted offensive line.

Joe suspects Jensen will be shading his protection help a lot to Earl Watford at right guard. That likely will set up McCoy for a healthy share of 1-on-1s versus Ali Marpet. Hopefully, Ian Beckles hasn’t gotten to Marpet; the Bucs don’t need any bad penalties.

DB55 was in the cooler for 2 years then through some miracle McIceCream gets cut and DB55 magically came out of the cooler. Coincidence? I think not.

There’s a reason we call him McIceCream and for the love of got please let this be the last McIceCream picture and article we ever see on JBF. Or I’m boycotting! Kidding you know I’m addicted to jbf and seriously can’t live without it.

LUV U JOES (well at least one of them)

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I’m so glad Cancer93 McCoy doesn’t play for the Bucs anymore

  3. tmaxcon Says:

Cancer93 does belong in the ring of underachievement with the rest of the backups that are enshrined with selmon and sapp… cancer93 and bucs a perfect match bot are losers with no hope of winning anything

  4. 813bucboi Says:

    GMC a str8 loser!!!!!

    lets get this W!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  5. Jimmy Says:

Nothing flushes DB55 and tmax out of the shrubs quicker than a GMC story. LOL

GMC is like a strobe light to these guys. 🙂

  6. adam from ny Says:

    wow…what a demonstration of sprinkles and confetti…

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I sometimes wonder if Buc players read JBF articles and the posts…..

That would certainly be a tough read for many as almost everyone has been disparaged at one time or another….

But, it may inspire players to improve……Rojo & Cappa come to mind….early on labeled busts….got motivated and improved greatly.

Lets hope SMB is a JBF reader.

  8. DooshLaRue Says:

Could have sworn he was referred to as a STUD for 9 years on this here corner of the Interweb……… Who wrote he wasn’t a stud?–Joe

Besides his uniform, what changed Joe?

  9. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

While I never turned on McCoy like so many as he was our best player for a number of years while in Tampa, it was frustrating how little losing seemed to bother him. I know many fans, myself included, would be angry and frustrated for hours if not days after most losses and he was always yucking it up with opponents after losses. That Washington game in particular still pisses me off to this day. I am sure that is why he is so loathed by so many. We all weren’t players to be like Sapp in Brooks. When they came to Tampa they declared that the losing was stopping with them, and damned if they didn’t do it.

If you think Joe is going to toss nearly a decade of Bucs history out the window on a guy who may be in the Ring of Honor and who just happens to play the Bucs twice a year, you are sorely mistaken.

Just because you want GMC to be a garbage player doesn’t mean it is so.

Who else should Joe erase from the Bucs hard drive, Vincent Jackson? Lavonte David? Aqib Talib? Josh Freeman? Old woman molester/meatjerker in San Diego? Who else?

Being the best player on historically horrific teams is not a reason to justify and accept a career loser fraud…. that is like saying the prettiest turd in the bowl is edible….

    tmax:

Props for working in the Speaker of the House in a GMC comment. haha

  13. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Lol Joe. It must suck to be you. Doosh being a douche and putting words in your mouth. I would imagine that is one of the worst parts of your job.

    Eh, not even close. LOL

  15. richbucsfan Says:

I think McCoy will have a game of his life going against the subs at RG and RT. Honestly, year after year when injuries happen the subs are pathetic. Same ole Bucs. Big loss coming I’m thinking.

  16. adam from ny Says:

    jensen vs. mccoy…

    round 2…

    winner gets a beefeater’s hat

  17. DB55 Says:

Rather read about the meatjerker at least he had gumption.

  18. BucsMinsterFueller Says:

I can’t wait for the last McCoy article on joebucsfan

  19. Delaware Bucs Fan Says:

That Bears game in London HAS to have some behind the scenes hijinks. The team was decent going into it and TOTALLY collapsed the rest of the season. Would love to hear the true story of WTF happened that week.

  20. Tman1006@yahoo.com Says:

Joe hit the nail on the head he loves the attention of the camera on him but hates being asked hard questions. That’s why he joined the panthers Cam Newton is the same way. McCoy is a good player but he was never great. Him and Sun have had the same impact stat line with McCoy having one more tackle.

  21. Bucsfanman Says:

Ya’ll leave tmax alone! You know he’s on his second bottle of Evan Williams already!

  22. Bucsfanman Says:

Can someone please ragdoll GMC to go along with my morning coffee on Sunday?! Puh-lease?!

  23. #1bucsfan Says:

T M A X I P A D is wrong again. SORRY T. Just cuz you have a opinion doesn’t mean it’s right it’s hilarious how wrong an dumb you make yourself sound but hey Plzz don’t stop I love laughing at you hahaha

  24. Snook Says:

McCoy isn’t Ring of Honor. Sorry, folks. Not for a long long time at least. He’s a whiny overpaid baby who was never an impact player in games. He padded stats in meaningless games.

  25. Gman Says:

I never turned on McCoy….I didn’t like or trust him from day 1. He was soft on draft day and still is soft in 2019

  26. DieHardsince88 Says:

I can’t wait until we can stop talking about the most OVERRATED Buccaneer in the history of this franchise. He should NOT be in the ring of honor. Look up highest paid loser on google his image should be the 1st to pop up. Please stop giving this guy lime light. We appreciate what he did off the field and that is it. let the dead horse lay.

  27. Pugs&Bucs Says:

    I’ll say it.

    McCoy is bipolar.

  28. pick6 Says:

i hope this london trip turns out as well for the panthers as mccoy’s london trip in 2011 turns out for the bucs

  29. fernando diaz Says:

    Joe
McCoy is not ring of honor material
    Not a leader
You pointed out how the hell it was hard with all those class guys around him in 2015
    You’re right
He was a good player never a leader
    Good players fade away
    GREAT players are legends

  30. JimmyJack Says:

    I’m a registered Independent.

    And I hate McCoy.

  31. Pickgrin Says:

“The trip was a lot of fun….I had a blast”

So I’ve heard. A little too much “fun” was what I heard about that trip.

And a 10 game losing streak after a 4-2 start was the result…..

    “Good Times” – right Gerald?

    SMH

  32. BringBucsBack Says:

Pugs&Bucs, bipolar, maybe; passive-aggressive, certainly! He ignores what he wants to and responds, often condescendingly, to what he carefully chooses.

Like Beckles said about the altercation with Jensen that gmc conveniently forgets; “He NEVER got that made while he was here!”. That is a lot of losing to be content with and he received a lot of money for that indifference.

  33. Joe in Michigan Says:

Let me summarize for tmaxcon, so he never has to past again:
    1) Gerald McCoy is a terrible person for buying ice cream
    2) The Glazers are stupid and cheap (although they’re billionaires and spend money on the team)
    3) All Bucs fans are stupid (although tmaxcon is one of us)
    4) Tony Dungy was an awful coach (although a Hall of Fame Coach)
    5) Derrick Brooks wasn’t any good (although a Hall of Fame player and one of the best)
    6) Capitalization isn’t important

  34. Joe in Michigan Says:
