Moving Up

August 12th, 2019

Coach is a big fan.

See how quick one can go from Bucco Bruce Arians’ possible doghouse to the penthouse?

Back in underwear football, Bucs corner Vernon Hargreaves was recovering from an undisclosed injury and didn’t practice. Arians claimed Hargreaves “wasn’t mentally ready” to practice.

Hargreaves laughed off the comment and claimed he had no issue with Arians.

Whether you side with Arians or Hargreaves is up to you, but Arians made it clear after Sunday’s practice not only is he 100 percent behind his most veteran starting corner, but that Hargreaves is a ballhawk and a potential interception machine.

Asked about Hargreaves’ pick against the Steelers, Arians practically crowed about Hargreaves.

“Yeah, he got his hands on another ball,” Arians pointed out. “He’s got great hands so when he touches it, you expect an interception.”

So is the relationship between Arians and Hargreaves an example of what Arians said is his biggest lesson he learned from working with Bear Bryant, “Coach ’em hard and hug ’em later?”

It seems to be.

Not only does Hargreaves look reborn but so too does the Bucs’ secondary as a whole. Look at this play below on Mike Evans from yesterday’s practice. It’s a perfect example of how being a ballhawk can be rewarding.

coach BA is going to get nutpunched over this mistake….

  2. OBP Says:

Would just like to make note what I and several other Bucs fans mentioned after that Steelers game, that the reason VH3 gave up that big pass was because Whitehead screwed up his assignment and wasn’t over the top like he was supposed to be.

  3. casual observer Says:

I think BA knows what he’s doing.

OBP is that an educated guess on your part or did one of the coaching staff say that. Not saying you are wrong in your point but it seems hard to always know when the corner is supposed to let the receiver “go” without knowing the actual defensive play call.

  5. tmaxcon Says:

history is not on BA’s side but the excuses from the nuthuggers will be entertaining when the little fella let’s them down AGAIN!

    Arians admitted Whitehead blew coverage.

Vernon Hargreaves is a enigma at this point…….One one hand he is a certified bust that has shown us nothing in three full seasons. One the other hand we have seen Buc busts benefit and recreate their careers under new coaching. They usually have to leave Tampa to to get that coaching but it may just be happening in our own town this time.

We kept hearing his name out of camp & it was easy to write it off based off his past but he showed up and backed up the talk on Friday with his big splash play. If he does not officially have your attention you are being niave(looking at you tax)…….. Yes, we could see a him fall from Grace but Joe’s report from the very next practice yesterday talked about him not missing a beat. If Vernon. can keep making plays against the Dolphins and through preseason we all might gotta recgonize Veron is a legit playmaking CB for the Bucs. The one thing you cannot deny are results…………uess you are a ever loving moron.

Can you just ban tmaxcon already? This is a fan site, not a troll site.

  10. a-bomb Says:

Tmax’s favorite player is now with the Panthers- please, go root for them

  11. bucnole Says:

Glad to hear VHIII is making some plays as he should being a 1st round pick
I hope he puts it all together this year including staying healthy

  12. Siege the Bay Says:

I think VH3 actually turned the corner last season. He was a stud in preseason, and in the first game up until he got injured. I think he is just picking up where he left off last season. If he stays healthy he should be pretty good this season.

  13. 813bucboi Says:

as ive been saying for the past 3years…..the problem has been coaching and scheme not talent and players….

    VHG is our best CB….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  14. 813bucboi Says:

    SIEGE

    BINGO!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  15. July Joe Says:

Sports Illustrated MMQB today revealed that Jake Arians (Bruce Arians’ son) told them back when Arians was retired that the ONLY QB he would come out of retirement to coach was JAMEIS WINSTON as he believes Winston can win it all.

THAT alone should shut up every Jameis-basher on this site, but of course, it won’t.

A noted QB Whisperer and a guy with an almost Hall of Fame resume (2x NFL Coach of the Year with two downtrodden franchises and two Super Bowl rings as an assistant) has raved about Jameis Winston for years and came out of retirement specifically to coach him … but … guys who know NOTHING about evaluating QB play like @magadude @bucsbandit and others want everyone to believe the Bucs should dump JW ASAP with @magadude even saying they should have dumped him and drafted WILL GRIER in the last draft; HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    No wonder THE BOOK:

    JAMEIS WINSTON DERANGEMENT SYNDROME:
How Media Bias Causes Us to Overlook the Start of a Hall of Fame NFL Career

was written … “Winston Derangement Syndrome” has infected the masses!

  16. July Joe Says:

Everyone who watched VH3 play in college knows he had 1st round ability and could be a quality starting CB in the NFL but Mike Smith’s scheme didn’t fit him at all … he’s been reborn under Arians as many players are … Arians has “it” and is a natural “leader of men”!

  17. ClwJB Says:

on that long pass you could immediately see VHIII yelling at Whitehead who got caught with his eyes in the backfield and never took his deep drop –

VHIII will be fine now that he is in the right system

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

    July Joe

Before he was hired by the Bucs, he also said the only team he would come out of retirement for was the Cleveland Browns. Can’t read too much into coach speak.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

    Tmax…you’re a celebrity now.

    They love you!

  20. July Joe Says:

^ Not exactly … it was well know Arians was actually trying to get Chuck Pagano the Browns job. He wanted JAMEIS, but when he spoke on the Browns Koetter had not yet been fired and it’s an unwritten rule for coaches that you don’t speak about a job that isn’t open yet.

  21. The Buc Realist Says:

Reborn, or has he stayed healthy so far and has played against jw3 and a backup qb of the steelers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

the 2019 season will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. kyle Says:

tmax, I’ll take a number 2 with fries and a diet coke please. and hurry up damnit!

I agree he looked like it was starting to click last year before he got hurt n this year hes back playing the way he plays best in the recievers face instead of Mike Smith “off coverage”

  24. SCBucsFan Says:

Bucs1987 Jeffrey Epstein is a celebrity now too…. just sayin…

  25. jmarkbuc Says:

    July

Uh huh…..So BA stumped for Pagano..but not himself..got it.

Thanks for the etiquette lesson. Follow the money.

  26. Bucsfanman Says:

You can hate on tmax if you want, however, history confirms his statements regarding VHIII. The oft-injured DB is more known for doing the Ne-Ne when opposing QBs overthrow their intended WR than actually making plays.
For the Bucs’ sake, for OUR sake, I am hoping that all of us will be eating crow this season as it pertains to VHIII.

  27. Ship Thief Says:

Oh! Tmax is talking about people’s balls again.
    Hahahahahaha
    So so so reliable.
    Hahahahahahahaha

  28. diggler Says:

I really like TMAX, FUCBOI813 and DBag55 they are the troll trifecta with some really good insight SOMETIMES.

    Kobefacker is king troll though.

All are true buc fans and just venting. It’s hard to see something you love and grew up watching get run like shiiieeettt for 2 decades.

  29. BucsFan727 Says:

Tmax and Realist should get a room. Match made in heaven. Life lossers..lol….dont you pussies run away at the first sign of the Bucs kicking your teams ass. I know you are not Bucs fans. Trollmaxiepad…And the Real sheep molester.

  30. Buccaneerscotty Says:

VH111 was always good!!! The Previous coaching staff didn’t know how to use him. 🐊🐊🐊

  31. LordCornelius Says:

In 2017 (what we all thought was probably his worst year) Vernon Hargreaves was a top 26 corner out of 101 when in press coverage per PFF.

When in non-press he was 75th out of 78.

    Not rocket science.

There were already #’s / grades out there supporting the anti-Smitty-scheme-sentiment. The splits were insane in 2018 –

2018 PPG given up with Smitty: 36.2 (LOL) as teams scored 30+ in 4 of 5 games

2018 PPG without Smitty: 26.5 (still terrible but 10 PPG improvement lol)

  32. Buc1987 Says:

Was never a fan of him being picked.

    Nothing’s changed my mind.

To me he’s just gotten worse.

  33. Buc1987 Says:

BucsFan727….Realist and Tmax have been here for several years. They’re Buc fans alright.

  34. Buccfan37 Says:

FSU fans hate is Gator hate.

  35. LargoBuc Says:

Tmax, Realist, 87 have all been here a long time.
Btw I hope Hawaiian Buc is okay. Haven’t heard from hom in a while.

  36. Malcolm-Reynolds Says:

I think I speak for most all Bucs fans that are also Seminole fans. Once a UF player is drafted by MY Pro Team, I am now a HUGE fan of his and am completely rooting for his success playing for My Team, and VH3 is NO EXCEPTION. Conversely I hope that Brian Burns kid from FSU drafted by my HATED rivals the Carolina Panthers crashes and burns career-wise ( no pun intended ). So to me it shouldn’t matter WHERE a player went to college. Once he’s a Buc, I don’t care about any of that other stuff.

  37. Pickgrin Says:

Evans had good separation on that play – If the ball had not been underthrown – it would have been a TD.
