“You Just Got To Have Patience And Grind”

July 27th, 2019

Welcome to corporate America, Mike Edwards. Even a football team is bogged down by too much talking.

Edwards met with local media today and his chat was rather uneventful, though Edwards explained that the NFL is different from college because you have meetings about meetings. Lots of meetings, Edwards said.

“You just got to have patience and grind,” Edwards said, nothing what he’s learned about being in the NFL.

Interestingly, Edwards said he spent a good bit of time watching Todd Bowles safeties on film before he ever got to One Buc Palace as a Buccaneer. Joe imagines that went over very well with Bowles during the pre-draft interview process.

Get to know Edwards below, via the Buccaneers YouTube video.

When asked what kind of safety can Mike Edwards be for the Bucs? “He is a ball-playing fool,” says Defensive Backs Coach Steven Clinkscale who had him three years at the University of Kentucky. Clinkscale says “This kid had instincts I’ve never seen before.” A bigger version of the Honey Badger would not be a bad idea. Go Bucs!

Great replacement for Justin Evans. Hope this guy has more of an impact.

This guy has a great makeup
Was really really solid in college

I said it on another post; I’ll predict that Mike Edwards will lead the defense in total forced turnovers. Phenomenal instincts. Always around the football. Good leader, captain type material. Might even be the steal of the draft.

I would love seeing him and justin Evans as our safety tandem. Just because Evan’s isn’t practicing doesn’t mean any other returning player is close to the player he is. He gets a mulligan for an injury plagued year season. Not trusting Whitehead who had to put on weight and wasn’t fast to begin with or anyone else to take Evan’s spot but would love having Edwards suit up as a day one starter probably not as much as Licht would love it though

I get the feeling that Bucs’ defense could have as many as 3-4 rookies on the field starting at any given time. Devin White, Sean Murphy-Bunting & Mike Edwards all have legitimate chances to be starters. Jamel Dean & Anthony Nelson also have a decent chance to get quite a bit of playing time on defense.

Todd Bowles coaches have their work cut out for them. Not a whole bunch of experience at the back end. But they all look like quality picks who can play fast & aggressive. Music to my ears.

Devin White will be a starter from day one barring injury.
