No Peyton Manning… Yet

June 12th, 2019

Waiting on a special call.

Joe wondered about this the moment Joe learned of the army of assistants Bucco Bruce Arians hired.

And it seemed the following was only a natural.

Arians is tight with Peyton Manning, one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play. So too is Bucs quarterback coach Clyde Christensen. And of course, Bucs special consultant Tom Moore was Manning’s offensive coordinator for Manning’s entire career with the Colts, minus Manning’s final season in Indianapolis.

So Joe wondered how long it would be before Manning might stroll into One Buc Palace to have an extended sitdown with America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston?

It seems even Jameis is expecting it. Jameis appeared on Adam Schefter’s podcast recently and spoke about his offensive assistant coaches and the connections they have in the game.

Adam Schefter: You know, Clyde Christensen has a lot of great relationships – all of these men do. Has anybody like Peyton Manning reached out to you on their behalf to talk to you about what it is like to work with these men?

Jameis Winston: No sir, not yet. I am sure in the near future I will get a chance to talk to one of those guys. But I just think it is so cool knowing the experience and the pedigree they hold and going out there and competing with them and working with them every day.

So would it be Manning that walks into One Buc Palace? Or Carson Palmer? Joe wouldn’t think it’s a pipe dream to see it.

In fact, with rumblings that Manning is getting restless in retired life and maybe wanting a white collar job in the NFL, it wouldn’t be outrageous to think the Bucs could hire him in some football operations capacity and his pet project would be working with Jameis.

Were the the hapless, hopeless Glazer’s, I’d spare no expense to make Peyton Manning part of our Front office.

I dont think I’d be too far off in saying that Manning was probably the most cerebral QB of all time and has more than likely watched/broken down more tape than any living person his age. And hes been a part of greatness his entire football career and knows what it takes to build a winner.

If we get him in the building we shouldn’t let him leave without a contract.

  3. AwShbucs Says:

    Were *I*…

  4. Magadude Says:

OMG, this is so out to lunch. But creative, I’ll give that. If Manning went ANYWHERE it would NOT be to ANY job with the Bucs. We do know Elway and the Broncos would probably put him in their front office if only he asked. Just like few to knone want Winston to put his face and name endorsement of any products, why would Peyton Manning want any PR whatsoever standing next to Winston? This belongs in Morning Cup of Joe.

  5. Pete I Says:

Surprised Schefter even interviewed Jameis “meaningless stats” Winston. Outside of the pollyanna’s on this board no one in the rest of the country cares about Winston or thinks much of him and there is little interest in the Bucs.

But he did, probably a BA storyline.

  6. Pete I Says:

Jameis “meaningless stats” Winston has no endorsements, for good reason. Elway has a thriving endorsement career, for good reason.

Why would Manning sully his reputation?

The “best” QB in Buccaneers history is not even on track to make the Ring of Honor at Ray Jay

  7. BigHog Says:

It’s he man 5th year how can his stats be meaningless, with no defense and no running game and no O/Line!? Please no more nonsense!!!

  8. gilhealy Says:

Hey Maga and Pete, what are you two idiots gonna do when Jameis signs the huge contract next season? LOL. Keep posting, it’s hysterical.

  9. Bucsfanman Says:

Surrounding Jameis with great QBs and minds is not the worst idea.

Pete I- “Sully” Manning’s reputation? You must have repressed his incident at Tennessee. Yeah, not quite the snow white reputation we think.
    Oh…..allegedly!

  10. Pete I Says:

What ever Manning did at Tennessee is long ago and far away. He was never one more incident away from getting suspended like some other QB’s named Winston.

His reputation and thanks to his second SB win is quite intact and is popular with America.

  11. Pete I Says:

“Hey Maga and Pete, what are you two idiots gonna do when Jameis signs the huge contract next season? ”

Unlikely – franchise tag at the most, but I will mourn another wasted year in Buccaneers history and another one to come.

Or I will be cheering the Buc’s to wins and hoping that BA’s fix on Jameis “meaningless stats” Winston is a permanent fix and not a short term band-aid.

BA or Bust for Jameis “meaningless stats” Winston.

  12. Bucsfanman Says:

Pete I- Yep, that’s the NFL for ya. WIN and it all goes away. Lose? Well, you see what we have.
Would we be having these “conversations” if we were winning? Um, I’m betting heck no! It’s a bit hypocritical IMO.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Yup, slow time of the year. Yet another ‘What did Jameis have for breakfast this morning’ article. I suppose it’s news if Peyton Manning & Carson Palmer DON’T reach out to Jameis. Well ‘not yet’ at least.

Wasn’t it just the other day that we had an article questioning whether Jameis had too many voices in his head already? You know, with BA & Clyde & Byron. And oh ya, Blaine Gabbert & Tom Moore. So ya, it’s perfectly reasonable to throw a couple more voice in there to ‘inspire’ Jameis with tales of ‘the good old days’.

I submit we should also resurrect Drew Stanton & Ryan Lindley to talk to Jameis. With enough voices in his head you never know which one of them Jameis could become.

  14. Todd Says:

    Joe—

    Admit it.

If just ONE of these greats spent ANY time with Jameis, your fingertips couldn’t find a keyboard fast enough to b!tch about “yet another voice inside Jameis’ head!”

It’s then be the focus of half Ira’s next podcast.

Am I right or am I right?

  15. Pete I Says:

“Would we be having these “conversations” if we were winning? Um, I’m betting heck no! It’s a bit hypocritical IMO.”

Perhaps not but it is a condition contrary to fact – we aren’t winning and our First pick in the draft QB has a losing record. Big stats, few wins, lots of excuses, terrible accuracy and lots of interceptions with clean pockets. And your opinion is noted.

BA or Bust for Jameis “meaningless stats” Winston

  16. Todd Says:

    Defense Rules—

I swear on my mother’s grave that I wrote my post BEFORE I read yours. There’s good reason I can’t wait to sit down and have a beer with you sometime!

Something about “great minds think alike.” 😂

  17. Todd Says:

    Pete—

I’d absolutely HATE walking around in your miserable head. At this point, with all the positive developments on our team under the BA regime, your persistent ignorant negative-speak is simply YOU needing attention. Since you are incapable of anything creative, you opt for lazy…your posts are redundant and now, very stupid.

    Grow up.

  18. BucEmUp Says:

    Superbowl bound with BA

  19. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Manning working here??? LOL…..ain’t happening Joe. Ludicrous.

  20. Defense Rules Says:

Todd … Bad news. If you think like I do, you’ve got trouble. Just ask my wife.

  21. Pete I Says:

I’m so sorry. Hope my posts get better for you.

“The “best” QB in Buccaneers history is not even on track to make the Ring of Honor at Ray Jay.”

    Yet.

  23. Chris Says:

Honestly, what do people around nfl circles think of jameis not only as a player but person overall? Do they even want to associate with him based off his history both on and off the field? That would be my question.

  24. Bob in Valrico Says:

Of all the QB’s ,I would like to see Jameis meet up with ,Kurt warner would get
one my votes for his abilty to make quick decisions and get the ball out fast.

No disrespect to Manning, who also would be a top pick. His ability to throw the deep ball with accuracy ,and lead receivers would be a great topic for discussion.

To Jameis credit, he did pick Russell Wilson’s brain when he had the opportunity. IMO, he is one of the best fourth quarter QB’s in the league.

  25. Allbuccedup Says:

Doesn’t matter who comes in to work with Jameis. Nothing will change Jameis is Jameis one minute he looks great next minute your asking yourself who was he throwing the ball to.

It’s gonna take Jameis being released traded to wake up and change

    Here’s a meaningless stat for D*#k heads -leading,tied or trailing 4 minutes left to play Jameis Winston comp% 62.2 TD/nit ratio:2.2/1 passer rating:94.7.
    Brees comp%62.7 TD/int ratio:1.2/1 PR:83.0
    Ryan comp%59.6 TD/int ratio:1/1 PR:76.4
    Cam comp%55.5 TD/int ratio:75/1 PR70.9

  31. Succaneers Says:

  32. NOSBOS Says:

See you f-heads can say what you will but the proof is in the pudding. See yesterday I mentioned run blocking is all about motivation and effort,BA will get that out our guys make no mistake. Ranking shows we’re already a top rank pass pro team. You lames complain about a running a game. Thing is you don’t have to have Barry Sanders in the backfield when teams are afraid to bring an extra man in the box. ME,Chris,Perriman,O.J. says ain’t too many bringing and extra man down. Add in special teams will be solid “we have a kicker now. And at the very least defense will be aggressive. You s@&# stains have 3 months left to talk ish. Once Jameis signs his extension I’m sure you @$$holes will change your tag or simply stop posting.

  33. DB55 Says:

Let’s get real, Peyton should buy the Bucs not work for them.

  34. NOSBOS Says:

    Looky looky there’s a Sucka.Near.

  35. T REX Says:

Todd, attack the POST not the POSTER or are you too mentally weak to do that?

Your faux Buc justice Warrior act is wearing thin bud. Keep it classy.

  36. 813bucboi Says:

    DB55

    i agree….

    or at least be PFO….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  37. pittsshore Says:

There is no way in h-ll Manning will waste his time with the clown known as Jamies Winston. Did he reach out to Ryan Leaf? How about Johnny Manziel?? Demarcus Russell??? The Manning’s do not associate themselves with life-long losers. Why would they want to tarnish their brand?

  38. Youngbucs Says:

Hey Suckingears, I think you shouldn’t talk of your short comings on here. It’s a football forum.

  39. DB55 Says:

    813

Peyton don’t need a job he’s an owner of multiple franchises and a spokesman. He is the equivalent of Micheal Jordan in the NFL. His next move is ownership, guaranteed.

  40. Magadude Says:

@Gilhealy…the facts are the facts. Should Winston sign a fat new contract, my take will the same…the facts are the facts, and it will have been a mistake. I just don’t think that is going to happen. You look pretty bad by calling people “idiots” just because they disagree with you. Are you carrying Winston’s baby or something? Go figure.

  41. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Agreed DB55

Manning wouldn’t come near this dumpster fire.

And while ownership may be on his radar, franchise are going for 2+Billion these days. Not sure he can swing that by himself.

  42. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Sorry but anyone with Maga in their screen name basically screams idiot.

  43. Buccfan37 Says:

    P. Manning has always given me the creeps. His bus commercials add to it.

  44. gilhealy Says:

Hey Magadick, what facts are you referring to? You look pretty bad getting all pious in you take of Jameis. Kinda Jimmy Swaggert like. Projecting maybe?

  45. 813bucboi Says:

    DB55

it aint about having a “job” its about the experience…..

help build a winner, then build one on your own….

jordan was PBO for the wizards before he became an owner of the bobcats….

i could see manning doing the same thing…..

getting his feet wet before driving in….

and no one compares to his airness in the NFL…..maybe brady with the rings but thats it….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  46. Magadude Says:

Gilhealy….oh, now name calling too. Well…

As I said, the facts. I assume you are aware of the Bucs image problem (ticket sales, fan support, etc), the Winston image problem and past character issues (including the NFL investigation), and his lying and deceit of his coaches, teammates, owners, etc. None of this identified or promulgated by me…but from various other sources that you could read…maybe have.

Alas, another attack based on an opinion…

Just read son. I won’t do your research for you.

  47. Magadude Says:

@TouchdownTampaBay…why, what’s wrong with “maga?” To what do you think it refers?

Some of you recently enlighted, corrected posters, help this poor soul out. He assumes, and does not understand.

So get smart on that, and then if you’d like to address articles and opinions, feel free to engage me.

  48. Buczilla Says:

Pay him a silly amount if money to consult Jameis this year and then hire him as gm if things go south.

  49. Magadude Says:

Gilhealy, you need to do your own reading, research. Start with FSU and go through 4 years of on and off the field disappointments and shame for Winston. Facts don’t change with time…and it’s not me putting them out…feel free to cover your eyes and click your heels chanting “there is no one but Jameis” all you want, but facts are facts.

  50. Magadude Says:

@ TD Tampa Bay…how do you figure you know what “maga” means? I’ll let some of the other recently educated Winston lovers explain it to you. Jump to conclusions much?
