The Three Giant Football Red Flags On Jameis Before The Season

October 29th, 2018

Joe has written about all of these separately, but given the rock-bottom state Jameis Winston now finds himself in, Joe finds it relevant to put these all together in one post for the purpose of analysis.

We’ve all seen America’s Quarterback give the football away this year like a beach bartender passing out drafts on dollar-beer night in July.

But should we have seen this coming?

Here are three reasons why the answer is, ‘Yes.’

Screwy mentality: After all the coaching of Jameis to protect the football like it’s his first-born son, after all the drilling to play within in the offense, Jameis admitted that wasn’t his priority in last year’s season finale.

Jameis was riding a personal nine-game losing streak at the time, a streak broken that day. After the last-second win against the Saints, Jameis admitted he spent a chunk of the game forcing the ball to Mike Evans because he wanted Evans to hit the 1,000-yard mark. That led to his three interceptions against New Orleans.

“I was trying — that’s what messed me up — I was trying to throw the ball to Mike Evans the whole game and that kind of threw me off my game. I wanted him to get that record,” Jameis said with a smile. “Luckily, he got it by one yard so, shoot, I accomplished what I wanted to do. I didn’t go out there. I didn’t want to throw three interceptions but I also didn’t think we were going to have a 95-yard drive, either. So like I said. God is good. That’s all that matters. We got the win, right?”

At the time Joe thought there was a chance Jameis was kidding. But Joe confirmed Jameis was not. It was stunning that Jameis would shake off his coaching like that — and admit it.

Bajakian’s “pitch-and-catch” line: Quarterbacks coach Mike Bajakian met with media in May and was drilled about the 2017 problems in the red zone. Well, Bajakian talked about how he watched lots of film and looked at successful red zone teams around the NFL, including the Eagles. Bajakian said he concluded that nobody was re-inventing the red-zone wheel across the league and the Buccaneers simply were failing at basic “pitch-and-catch” plays. It was a telling indictment of the Bucs’ quarterback play.

The Throw In Tennessee: Remember that ill-advised prayer of a heave to the end zone this preseason that Jameis threw to Chris Godwin against the Titans? It was a touchdown highlight, but it was exactly the decision Jameis had been coached over and over and over again not to repeat. Lips were tight at One Buc Palace after that throw. Dirk Koetter was not smiling about it at all. The inexplicable nature of that throw, Joe believes, is tied to Jameis’ problems today.

Here’s the video for those who forgot:

— Yahoo Sports NFL (@YahooSportsNFL) August 19, 2018

So here we are. Jameis finished last season throwing five interceptions in five games following his return from injury, in addition to several fumbles. This year, Jameis isn’t fumbling but he’s thrown 10 picks in 13 quarters, an historically bad run.

Anyone care to predict what next for Jameis?

shall we trade jameis for a kicker and a box of crayons?

  2. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

One of the joes looks like they are beginning to do a CYA on the promoting of jameis. Joe is doing no such thing. The NFL is fluid. One day’s reality is another day’s fiction/ancient history for fans, players, coaches, media, whoever. Joe always stands behind everything written on the site. That’s why there are archives available here.–Joe i am pumped for the get rid of licht article as well, and how has the kicker not been cut yet?

  3. Joe Blahak Says:

I’m no Nostradamus, but a new team is next? WE ALL HOPE!

  4. LakeLand Says:

    Yeah right

    The Bucs got the win
And Denver got the 22 year old Bradley Chubb and his 7 sacks in 8 games

    This franchise is so dumb
They don’t even know how to tank for a great player

  5. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

I say the only way he plays the rest of the way is if ownership steps in and forces Koetter to do it. Otherwise, we need to roll with Fitz. Clearly the players trust Fitz more, there was so much more juice on the offense when Fitz came in. Any hope we have of a successful season rides on Fitzmagic at this point.

  6. LakeLand Says:

I predict Jameis will continue to be the Bucs QB
They have painted themselves into a corner
    They are stuck with him

    They can’t rely on Fitz
He turns the ball over as much as Jameis
7 turnovers in 9 quarters, before the Bengals game
Plus he will be next month

This team don’t have many options at QB

  7. Robert Says:

an the 79 off the field red flags?

just glad to have the team back!!

  8. LakeLand Says:

**He will be 36 next month**

  9. SteveK Says:

    Lakeland,

Fitzmagic is back and here to start.

Jameis is trades or put on ice to avoid paying $21 million next year.

  10. LakeLand Says:

    Here’s some fun facts

    NFL Research

With 4 INT today, Jameis Winston has thrown 2+ INT in 5 straight games extending back to 2017 (T-Most since 1990)

His 13 total INT in that span are tied for the most in a 5-game stretch over the last 5 seasons — with Ryan Fitzpatrick, the man who just replaced him in the game

  11. Ryan Baker Says:

    SteveK nailed it .

  12. LakeLand Says:

    Fitz will start

But how long will he keep the starting job
    His play is also erratic
He’s a 36 year old journeyman QB for a reason

  13. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

The problem is…it’s not just one bad game.

This is who he is. Who he was. Who he will always be.

We won’t win consistently with a QB like him.

The coach is suppose to play the BEST player to give us the BEST chance to win.

    Play Fitz.

We are in this to win this, NOT FIX JW.

  14. Not there yet Says:

I wonder if you guys realize how stupid you sound asking to trade a guy you think is the worst qb in the nfl. Sounds extremely ignorant especially knowing teams that are bad this year probably need a high draft pick, they can get it with a bad season plus sign Winston in the offseason without having to pay him 20 million. Stop with the stupid trade Winston talk, even if gm’s think he can be salvaged they won’t do it at that price
Sure, because GMs never make stupid trades. Right? I mean why ask, all these GMs are geniuses and won’t overpay. C’mon, man. Never hurts to put out the feelers and gauge the market on any player you don’t consider a franchise cornerstone. And Jameis has obviously lost that status.–Joe

  15. Jeff Says:

As a devout Nole, I predictably have been defending Jameis going all the way back to his days at FSU. I still think at his core he’s a good kid and a great football mind, but his play has become undefendable this season. Its time to move on, for everyone’s benefit. He may go somewhere and be a great fit. I’d love to see us get something of value in a trade for him, but honestly, he’s damaged goods and GMs know that. Doubt we could get a lot for him. But his time in Tampa may be over and it may be the best for all involved, including Jameis.

I needed to watch that performance yesterday to finally push me over the edge. Still don’t think Fitz is the long term answer, but for now? He’s gold. Keep Jameis on the sidelines until we can find a new home for him and hopefully get something of value in return.

  16. Loyaltotheend Says:

Gotta roll with Fitz until they are eliminated from playoffs

    Team plays differently with Fitz

  17. LakeLand Says:

    Ryan Fitzpatrick isn’t Joe Montana

He has 141 career INT in only 4183 pass attempts

His career INT percentage is 3.4

Jameis Winston career INT percentage is 3.2

  18. AlteredEgo Says:

It is sad on many levels….

  19. Bobby M. Says:

Technically he has 4 fumbles this year….he’s only lost one. That’s still a lot considering he’s played in 3 1/2 games. He’s on pace for 40 turnovers.

He might actually begin and end his career as a Buc with a pass that was intercepted.

  20. LakeLand Says:

    The Bottom Line

The Bucs has a QB dilemma
They have 2 erratic, turnover prone QB

  21. LakeLand Says:

It wouldn’t surprise me that Fitz get the start against the Panthers
And throw 3-4 picks against them

  22. Howard Cosell Says:

This franchise is a tragedy….and the Glazers are richer than ever

  23. LakeLand Says:

I don’t have any faith in Fitz or Jameis
There’s not a QB on the Bucs roster that I would build around

  24. SteveK Says:

Could we trade Jameis to th NYG straight up for Janoris Jenkins?

Jameis would have a bye week to prepare.

  25. Bird Says:

Does fitz lead the league in QBR?

  26. Howard Cosell Says:

This Glazer owned operation tends to reminds me a lot of Spectrum customer service Lol

  27. G-Money Says:

Well; maybe all the madness has finally caught up to Jameis and he’s melting down?
We never know as fans what some of these players are going through off the field outside of what we read. I am a Jameis fan and I wish the best for him, but I’m seeing things spiral completely out of control for this young man, and I wonder if it’s more than just FB issues??

  28. Bobby M. Says:

Also…you’ll know he’s done when negative stories start leaking to the press….Its Bucs PR 101….start painting the picture for why its time to move on. When Freeman was benched….then we started hearing all the dirt from the past. But those in the know were very aware of Freeman’s issues years before that stuff came out. It will be the same with Winston….the Uber situation will likely get exposed with more detail….”Friction” with Koetter last year….D-Jax frustration…etc. It will come out.

  29. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

it’s not a jameis thing it’s an organizational issue. this franchise has NEVER been able to develop players. sure a few mediocre defenders were developed while riding on sapp’s coat tails but this team has a long history of wasting outstanding talent or simply NOT getting the best out of players. Jameis will be a success in this league. You can guarantee that. It will not be here but just like young, blount, talib, Williams, dilfer and the rest that went on to earn rings elsewhere. This franchise has never developed it’s players. You get a generational player in sapp who made EVERYONE around them better. hell sapp single handily carried two average people in hall of fame on his coat tails dungy the clown and the dude who ran storm into ground.

this franchise has embarrassed the sport of football for nearly two decades. The glazers are not going to magically get it, hell they don’t even give crap. You can’t be this bad for nearly two decades and convince a rational sane person that you are trying.. Best thing for Jameis is to get out of the black hole that is tampa bay buccaneer football. It sucks being a fan for over 40 years of a team that simply can’t figure it out and has zero hope for the future. Tampa fans are simply the girl that goes back to the wife beating husband time after time. One good year in 42 is pathetic.

5 years from now, you guys will be crying this is the year we finally don’t suck. Meanwhile jameis is winning titles…. That truly is a buc life! Most embarrassing and poorly ran sports franchise on planet earth…

  30. Robert Keesler Says:

Package McCoy( the Chris Archer of the Bucs) and Winston, for a couple draft picks so the New GM next year has something to work with in the middle rounds.

  31. The Real Malloy Says:

Hey Lakeland, have you been paying attention AT ALL this season? I don’t care what Fitz has done in his career. Except for one half of the Steelers game and one half of the Bears game, he has played lights out for the Bucs since he got here. Jameis is done. Fitz will be named the starter moving forward this am.

  32. Ryan McGregor Says:

    SOFT

  33. Ryan McGregor Says:

    Hey him outta here!

  34. Howard Cosell Says:

Lol maybe the uber driver was a Glazer employee on a mission to save them from having to pay for a #1 draft pick?
Lol probably not……but these are the kind of things I wonder about with scheme Glazer at the helm

  35. LakeLand Says:

    Fitz is great in relief

But how many relievers make good starters?
I don’t believe Fitz or Jameis will lead this team to the playoffs
I’m sure the Bucs front office feels the same

It takes years to find a “Franchise” QB
    Some teams never finds one
I doubt the Bucs will find one

They should try to build a solid team
Where as an average QB can come in and excel
    Someone like Brad Johnson

  36. AlteredEgo Says:

Bobby M…perhaps…but I really don’t need any off field info…his play on field has doomed his time here in Tampa and probably in the NFL…I really feel for the guy because he does seem to be a good guy ,slow learner on social situations and behaviors, he really loves the game of football…..but so do many others that make it to the NFL and are just not good enough at this level…I hope he is wise with his money and enjoys a great life …maybe as a coach because he knows all the X’s and O’s…just not at NFL game day speed

  37. Ludicrous Speed Says:

    Joe…

Mike Florio reported this morning that Ira Kaufman was quoted as saying that Koetter only had one choice as to who to be starting at QB unless he wanted to totally lose the locker room.

Unless I’ve overlooked it, I don’t see anything about it here and thought that with your connection with Ira you’d be all over anything he had to say about it.

I was wondering what information you might have regarding the conversation Mike Florio was quoting from…

  38. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Joe says “The NFL is fluid. One day’s reality is another day’s fiction/ancient history for fans, players, coaches, media, whoever. ”

Very well said, Joe. We are all entitled to a change of opinion, based on what we see, each and every day.

  39. Bucsdelight Says:

Same song different player. We had a good player in Freeman, until he went mental. Jameis was supposed to get us a SB win by his third year, as promised by all FSU fans. Here we are in his 4th year and he still can’t play QB well. He is who we (not FSU fans) thought he was, just an avg QB. You can’t rely on Jameis to get you the win. We need to have a stellar D and just have Jameis do the basics. Maybe in his 8th year or something he will come around. Right now, Jameis is in the bottom 1/3 of QBs in the NFL.

  40. Howard Cosell Says:

“Franchise QB” is more of culture than any one individual. The Bucs have the culture of Walmart

  41. LakeLand Says:

    The Real Malloy

Fitz threw a INT against the Eagles
He threw 3 against the Steelers
He threw one against the Bears

    That’s 5 in three games

you must not have been paying attention

  42. steve Says:

be careful! this is the type of post that will get you banned from the stick carriers facebook group!

  43. LakeLand Says:

There’s not a QB in the NFC South

Other than Jameis and Fitz with 5 INT

  44. LakeLand Says:

    I don’t buy broken goods

    Jameis is not the answer
    Neither is Fitz

  47. CT Buc's fan. Says:

It’s an easy decision on what to do when you’re not the GM and don’t have to live with the consequences. 😉

If I were the GM I’d have a difficult time trusting Winston, either on or off the field. And given that lack of trust I’d not be comfortable spending 100+ million on a new contract for him.

His football IQ may be in a very high range but if he’s not coachable than what does it matter? At some point Winston MAY overcome the turnover issues, but in the meantime many jobs are on the line, including the head coach, the GM, and many others. They’re almost between a rock and a hard place. Bailing on Winston is an admission of failure, but maybe necessary anyhow if that’s what’s best for the team.

If I were Licht I’d do what is best for the team and let the chips fall where they may. I’d do my best to win NOW doing everything possible to increase my chances. But I’d go with the QB who passed for 400+ yards three times in a row and would have done it again yesterday had he started the game.

  48. ManzielMadness Says:

    @Lakeland

Agree with pretty much everything you said. Fitz is like Jameis… he’ll have his highs and his lows. Don’t think we’ll be a playoff team with either QB. Next years draft has some studs on the DLine. Time to focus on building the team, starting with the lines.

  49. Frank Pillow Says:

The Joes might be the biggest Jameis promoters this side of Bessemer, Alabama, but they are also right about the NFL being a fluid league. They are also right that Licht has a responsibility to do whatever it takes to field the best Buccanneers team he possibly can today, tomorrow and in the years to come. That means he should be burning up the lines asking about available players & offering-up all but a small handful of players on this roster. He absolutely needs to make a listing to calls on Jameis.

If they can’t bring themselves to trade him today/tomorrow, at the very least, the organization now needs to show the kind of courage it lacked when it handed Jameis the starting job back…and have him sit, watch, learn and not trigger any injury guarantees. They can punt on Jameis’ ultimate fate- without punting on the season. Why? Fitz.

Fitz is simply executing the game plan better. He also has more wins in his limited starts than Jameis has in nearly 1 full season. I know he has his own limitations, but his accuracy, tenacity and leadership have sparked something. It was obvious to anyone who watch the game yesterday. Can Fitz sustain it? Probably not, but he has earned the chance to try.

Yesterday Dirk said he has no problems making decisions- hmmm- he certainly held onto Smitty for too long…I suspect that if he’s going to go down, he’ll be swinging with his guy vs being dragged to the bottom by Jameis. Joe, you forgot to mention the story that floated about a fracture in their relationship. I’m sure Dirk hasn’t forgotten.

  50. Jmarkbuc Says:

If you don’t like Fitz..for whatever reason, activate R GRiffin.

Roll with the two Ryan’s and deactivate JW. Bubble wrap him and save 21 million.

NOBODY is gonna trade for this guy by tomorrow, not even Gruden.

If only they had put Fitz in after JW’s second INT, late in the first half we wouldn’t be back in Buccaneer Cove just yet..before Halloween.

  51. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Lakeland

You don’t have to be sold on Fitz. Our QB of the future is not on this team.

Right now you just have to like Fitz enough to finish this season. And the team sure does respond to him…..

  52. Ludicrous Speed Says:

Sorry to have troubled you, as I believe I found it. I almost totally focus on the main articles and read through the text in the center, pretty much ignoring the pictures on the sidebars which mostly seem to be advertising which I tend to tune out. But being in search mode I noticed Ira’s photo which led me to his article. I’m used to finding his stuff in the center of your main page though. Once again, sorry about that, chief.

  53. gman Says:

you can cross out before the season and insert before the 2015 draft….there I fixed it for you Joe

  54. NPRSageBoy Says:

Go back and read the predraft scouting on Jay Miss. High football IQ, but poor decision maker both on and off the field. Prone to turnovers. Will struggle to read NFL defenses.
In 4 years since draft, little has changed. Time to move on.

  55. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m thinkin Jameis will be here for a little while. Our next head coach will get us a running game wherein we won’t have to throw so much. jameis just needs a better mix of plays. We don’t jave a great run game so Koetter is, Bombs away Happy. Jameis is good for about 15 to 20 completions per game. Koetters gone next year.

  56. Bucsfan1988 Says:

Lakeland, yeah let’s talk about Fitz’s Interceptions this season.

1 against Eagles – bounced off OJ’s hands/chest and in the air. PERFECTLY THROWN.

3 against Steelers – ALL were due to breakdowns in basic blocking of their O-line. Especially the boneheaded Dotson play with not blocking guy right in front of him. Fitz redeems himself in 2nd half!!

1 against Bears – bad throw as was forced to make a play.

Jameis’s picks yesterday weren’t due to collapsing pocket and pressure from O-line. They were MORONIC throws!!

    HUGE difference between the players.

Bottom line, if Fitz has a clean pocket, he will pick defenses apart.
That is not the case for Winston as he forces throws and doesn’t throw to the open guy.

  57. Locked In Says:

Any chance Jameis threw the Godwin TD because he thought he had a free play? There was a flag thrown in the secondary.

  58. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

maybe when bucs clean house JBF can do a little house cleaning and ditch all the old has-beens (journalists and former players)… Everything is fluid after all…. go find some young fresh takes versus the tireless attempts to relive a failed past with former players and bums. the writing was much better in the past before Joe got so HUGE, star struck and podcast happy… now it’s just like the old mullet wrap Tampa trib with a comment section

Everything needs a rework in Tampa, ownership, front office, roster, and jbf…

It’s a shame that ownership can’t be held accountable for their blatant incompetence. All these player issues and drama could have been prevented if there was strong leadership in the building. There has NEVER been strong leadership in that building. And stop with the one-dimensional clown dungy. his tenure was a religious circus not leadership.

but much love gentlemen and appreciation for all the hours and hours of entertainment but nothing last forever….

  59. LakeLand Says:

    The Bottom Line

They will be home in January playing Madden
    With Jameis or Fitz

  60. Defense Rules Says:

Lakeland … You’re all over the place this morning on QBs.

10:27 AM … “I predict Jameis will continue to be the Bucs QB. They have painted themselves into a corner. They are stuck with him. They can’t rely on Fitz.”

10:35 AM … “Fitz will start. But how long will he keep the starting job. His play is also erratic.”

10:45 AM … “It wouldn’t surprise me that Fitz get the start against the Panthers
And throw 3-4 picks against them.”

10:47 AM … “I don’t have any faith in Fitz or Jameis.”

So Jameis will continue to be the Bucs QB … until he isn’t? Fitz will start … until he doesn’t? But apparently, an ‘average QB’ would be OK? Got news Lakeland … Fitz is a better than ‘average QB’. In 16 quarters of play he’s led the Bucs to 123 points. That’s an ‘average’ of 7.7 pts/qtr or a tad over 30 PPG. And that includes 2 horrible first halfs against Pittsburgh & Chicago (where almost all of his turnovers occurred?).

Jameis right now reminds me a lot of Josh Freeman. Excellent skillset, BUT … no idea where his head was. And because of that he lost the team.

  61. gp Says:

What quarterback would want to play for the Buc’s
    No protection
    No support
    No “got yer back”
    Not from the offensive line
Not from the rest of the team
Not from the staff or front office
    And the so called “fans”……

  62. Jmarkbuc Says:

    gp

Fitz looked like he was having fun yesterday..team sure stepped up for him.

Jameis’ problems are Jameis’ problems…nothing or no one else.

The reason he has turned out this way is people making excuses for him his entire life.

  63. Brandon Says:

You can’t win the NFC South when your starting QB is the…6th best in the division. 1) Brees 2) Ryan 3) Newton 4) Bridgewater 5) Fitzpatrick 6)-tie Winston/Matt Schaub

  64. BucNole Says:

We will know he’s done when he doesnt practice or suit up.
Why risk him getting injured and being on the hook for $20mil???

  65. LakeLand Says:

    Defense Rules

I didn’t say Jameis would start next week
I’m saying that he’s not through in Tampa
    Fitz will get benched again

  66. AtlantaNole Says:

Doesn’t matter who the quarterback is. Koetter offense does not work without a strong running game.

  67. Petty Officer Buc Says:

Fitz did NOT throw a INT against the eagles. That’s what the stat sheet says but watch the play. OJ Howard bobbles an accurate pass for so long that the Eagle covering him simply picks it up from his arms. Nobody who was watching the game thought that should have been called as an INT it should have been a strip fumble on Howard.

  68. BringBucsBack Says:

Thanks Bucsfan1988, for the reminders! Due to people’s inability to be subjective and employment of vendettas / agendas, some people’s memory are rendered to be very short.

Also, at least two of the three picks in the Steelers game were tipped.

The two are similar in many was but, Fitz’s highs are so much higher! He makes this offense lethal, with #3 in, it is only good!

  69. BigHogHaynes Says:

    The o/line its THE O/LINE!!&

  70. TOM Says:

The Franchise QB is not on the team right now unless its Griffin. What is the deal with Griffin? Is he a potential starter or a career backup?

  71. ATrain Says:

    Unbelievable
Jamies Fans coming up with stats to compare to Fitz and then say Jamies is elite

Compare Jamies to the other Elites in the game today

DID ANY OF YOU WATCH Jamies yesterday he should have thrown seven INTs Three drops by Cleveland right in their hands not to include the bad passes

If you are defending this guy you should start watching baseball that is where you will see Jamies next

  72. BigZ Says:

Add JW to the recent list of talented players who we didnt keep for various reasons who went on to have solid careers, Talib, Bennett, Barron, Blount, etc. No qb would succeed with HC like Smith and Kotter.

Payton or Bilichek will pick him up and let him learn.

Build right side of oline and picks for Tou in 2020.

  73. Atlanta Nole Says:

No quarterback will succeed with this offense, without an above average running game. Koetter needs the running game to pull in the defense closer to the the line of scrimmage for his deep passing game.

  74. Stravenite Says:

This offence looks great with Fitz, imagine what a franchise QB would do with this cast of receivers ???
So why does Winston freewheel and throw interceptions, its who he is, always has been, and he will never change. Self confessed single minded loser.

Make sure the door is open and let him go, this is no-one elses’s fault other than his so stop making excuses or scapegoating anyone else !.

  75. Dave5928 Says:

I’m afraid Jameis might have cost Dirk Koetter (and the majority of the coaching staff) his job. All those poor decisions show he is a loose cannon and has become uncoachable. if that’s the case, does anyone expect the Glazers to allow Dirk to start with a new QB while already being on a very hot seat? It doesn’t make sense. I feel badly for him; you cannot force another person to obey your coaching decisions. The only thing he could do was to bench Winston and pray for Fitzmagic to continue to produce wins.

  76. stpetebucsfan Says:

I’d like to explore a little irony this morning. The very thing that almost kept JW from being the number one pick…all of his boneheaded off field moves at FSU and then the rape accusation are actually perhaps why JW DID get to be the #1 pick.

I just reread JW’s scouting report for the draft. It TOTALLY tells us everything that would blow up on us….doesn’t see the field well…poor decision making…disinterested first halves with slow starts….

So while we were all debating his character we became distracted. It was never about his character…it was always about his play on the field but we were more worried about crab legs and FHITP. I throw myself under that bus as well.

Once I got past the off field stuff I was all in with Jameis. Now I realize that was moronic on my part given his record at FSU…ON the field. He’s always been a turnover machine prone to stupid decisions. Why didn’t we/me pay attention? We were desperate for a franchise QB and distracted by the off field stuff which was really a secondary issue…although it too got him suspended.

  77. Geno Says:

I think Lakeland had a strong point about career interception rates. I think both players are too high In their career interception rates and probably why neither will be a top qb.

I did a comparison of the two quarterbacks over the last two seasons with the bucs and Fitz interception rate is at 2.6 and Jameis is at 3.6 if that matters.

I also agree with Bucsfan1998, my eyes said that the interceptions that Fitz has had this year were not as horrible as those from Jameis.

Always felt that Jameis does not take the check downs enough.

  78. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @JMark…great response to GP.

@GP ” No “got yer back” Whose back has Jameis ever had?
Jimbos? Are you serious. Suspension at FSU…arguing with Jimbo on the sideline like a madman?

How about the Glazers/Buc staff fans and teammates?

So a year after almost blowing an NFL career…a year after SOOO many folks including many posters here who I really like…went to bat for Jameis how did he repay them for that second chance and taking the risk?

Forget about the lascivious details I do not wish to argue over whether grabbing a woman’s Vajajay is bad whether he was had by a “gold digger”. I DON’T CARE!!

AGAIN…here is a FACT…ONE YEAR after being given the break of a lifetime JW had our backs..Licht and Koetter’s backs by going out at 3AM and getting BLIND DRUNK IN PUBLIC by his own admission…while hanging out with trouble magnet Darby and a thug convicted of rape the same crime that JW was accused of…how was this not a major PR gamble even if he never touched a woman?

Jameis had our backs out in Phoenix alright…with a knife in his hand to shiv us.

The ONLY reason JW was here after that 3 games suspension was because some people still thought he could play. NOBODY really trusts JW…he is a loose cannon on and off the field. Now that it appears he can’t see the field…isn’t aware of where defenders are playing…throws inconsistently…goes rogue on his coach…he’s worn out his welcome.

  79. Bangkok Buc Says:

Regardless of which QB starts the remainder of the season, one fact is clear to all. We have the 4th best starting QB in the NFC South both this year and going into next.

Might as well cut bait with Jameis and begin the search again.

  80. miken Says:

@joe… That preseason throw vs Tenn. Yeah, as soon as he threw it I was like, are you kidding me? No starter does that. He did an even worse one last year vs Jax. That throw I knew nothing had changed. Damn shame too.

  81. miken Says:

His good games he turns it over twice. His bad games he turns it over 3 or 4.

  82. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

    Sad day for Tampa Bay….

  83. miken Says:

damn, the red flag about throwing to evans sounds like a high schooler.Yikes

  84. stvcl Says:

Hopefully we can get a 3rd round pick for Famous and a 4th for McCoy. There’s still time.

  85. DJ Says:

Jameis has not developed and is showing no signs of developing his game. It’s time to cut our losses. An inconsistent Fitz is better than a consistently bad Winston.

  86. Bigbucfan90 Says:

Koetter failed to mold Jameis it is what it is I just want Tampa to win regardless of who is the QB I’m a Bucs fan whatever it takes to win right now if Jameis can cut the turnovers down I can live with him being the future I think yesterday harsh reality of what will come if he doesn’t get the proper coaching he’s very predictable everyone knows that all they have to do is put pressure on him and he’ll always try and make those plays smh I’m just ready to win

  87. Hawk Says:

Lakeland said, “There’s not a QB on the Bucs roster that I would build around”.
No one knows what Griffin can do. He has yet to take his first (real) NFL snap. It would be a very good idea to get him into some games this year, if the Bucs are through with Jameis (I am not convinced that they are).

  88. PSLBob Says:

    1. Let Fitz start and play as many games as possible until he consistently screws up. Defense played well enough to win yesterday. Jameis lost that game.
    2. If Fitz screws up consistently, put in Griffin. Remember, we do have 3 QBs on the roster, and the organization has kept 3 for a reason. Let Griffin get some in-game experience and see what we’ve got
    3. Draft a QB. If Fritz plays well through the end of the season, and particularly if we make it to the playoffs, draft a high round QB and develop him under Fritz. If Fritz sputters and Griffin lights the place up, draft a lower round QB and develop him as a backup.
    4. Trade Jameis for anything we can get in next year’s draft. He will go on to win a Super Bowl on someone else’s team. Always works out that way.

  89. Pittsshore. Says:

Cowards JW supporters go grope yourself.

  90. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

The best teacher of man kind is failure!!!

If the coach and everyone is married to JW… You start him next week with a seriously short leash…

If Im DK, i tell everyone on the team right in front of JW… This is our starting QB… Anyone…. And I mean anyone (Im lookimg at you DJax) that does not play 100% will ne benched, Including JW…

But you gotta let Wimston start in Carolina…

Man what it would be like to ne 24 amd havimg to endure everything Winston has to…

None of you really can understand…

    #LoveKeepsNoRecordsOfWrong

    #YouWantedHimToFail

I want to see his potential realized…. Cause Im a Bucs Fan

  91. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

And TBH… Selfish me wants Fitz to start… But real me wants to grow with the guy that is bound to be among the greatest of all time… Cause he already is… He has cost us a few games NO DOUBT…. But he has not been the REASON why we sick….

Dude is worth the wait…. You cry babies need to learn from your QB…. Adversity builts Character!!!!

  92. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

My God, all the Jay Miss supporters here make me sick. Dude has never been accurate, he’s regressed on the field and he’s a turd off the field. The interceptions yesterday were all terrible throws. He’s never going to be a franchise QB. Now, let’s go find one!

  93. Buc-n-Idaho Says:

Joe, I’ve been behind you over the years, including this year, for your fair and warranted support of our franchise QB. Now you write an article that makes it seem like we all should have seen this coming??? Very disappointing!!!

He still is our best option. You all will see, he will thrive somewhere else. If he leaves, he will win a super bowl before we do.

  94. Joe Says:

He still is our best option.

    Totally agree.

  95. BigMacAttack Says:

Jameis will never win a Super Bowl unless he’s a backup QB to Tom Brady.

  96. BigMacAttack Says:

Jameis would be an upgrade for Buffalo.

  97. Firrrreee Licht Says:

I’d trade 90% of the JBF posters of possible. It’s more like 40 people though using different screen names and tablets…. I’m the original Fire Licht. The one who has been calling for a new GM since the draft and last year. Fire Licht!

  98. Buc-n-Idaho Says:

Bigmacattack- Jameis will never win a super bowl unless he’s a backup to Brady.

Admit it, you said worse about Trent Dilfer. I would say Doug Williams too but you have probably only been a “Bucs fan” for a couple years.
