A fascinating Buccaneers data point was shared by NFL media yesterday.
Guess how many times receivers Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Emeka Egbuka were on the field at the same time? The answer is 61 times — the trio played only 61 snaps together.
And here’s the real punch in the gut, via the NFL. “On those plays, the Bucs averaged 6.5 yards per play, which would have led the NFL.”
Savvy Bucs fans realize, ‘Hey, those guys played the final four games together last season.’ Why weren’t they on the field together more often giving defensive coordinators nightmares — even four-wide with Jalen McMillan, who played in the final four games.
Under the bus again you go, Josh Grizzard!
Of course, the “61” snaps together for Evans, Godwin and Grizzard further highlight how injury-riddled the Bucs were last season.

Grizz was not quite up to the job. Still, he had to try to protect Baker as much as possible. I am not a play caller, but I wouldn’t dream of running an empty backfield with those guards and I would imagine he kept two tight ends most plays. Don’t really have a way to rewatch them for free.

I think it had A LOT more to do with Mr. Todd Bowles, than anything else. He decided to go strictly with a ground and pound style of game plan during those last few games of the season, in order to win the time of possession. He’d lost all trust in Baker AND His Defense, by that point.

Protect Baker from what? Injury? And how do you protect a running QB from injury? Going by his off-season interviews, he’s not concerned with protecting himself because he’s “started every game”.
As far as Grizz is concerned, it falls on Bowles. He has more experience, he’s the vet and he’s the boss. As always Todd is slow with adjustments. If you’re not playing your best players together, on both sides of the ball, then what are we doing here?

What makes you guys think Mike Tomlin will be the next Bucs coach? There’s nothing to indicate that he’s even interested in coaching next year.

I don’t know but, I have trouble believing the Bucs will win more than 7 games. I mean the Bucs are selling 3 rookies to play like All Pros. The defense has a ways to go, especially the secondary and depth at LB. Hopefully they resign Baker and the offense stays healthy and puts up 30 plus points a game. Maybe that gets them a few extra wins if the Bucs have the ball at the end of the game. Big Maybe. I think that is the reality. If they do better great, but don’t count on it

Bowles fired everyone but himself. He’s a complete fraud and a charlatan.
No amount of talented players, health, good luck, or weak opponents will change the inevitable outcome.

Losing streaks after losing both in ‘24 against the Falcons, and another tailspin after losing Mike week 7. Couldn’t regroup after the bye, and stayed bad getting Mike, Chris, & JMac back into the line up.

It would be nice if it were that simple.
But, …
The Bucs averaged 6.4 yards per pass attempt in the 1 point loss to Atlanta.
The Bucs averaged 7.0 yards per pass attempt in the 3 point loss to Miami.
And the Bucs averaged 8.3 yards per pass attempt in the 2 point win over Carolina.
The odd game out is the 3 point loss to Carolina where the Bucs average 4.5 yards per pass attempt on 26 attempts.
But, given the yards per pass attempts per game in those other three games, the trio must have been on the field a lot in the game they loss to Carolina or the overall average for the three together would be even higher that 6.5 yards per attempt.
But, with the average for those 61 at 6.5 yards per pass attempt, it seems likely that the trio was on the field together for at least 15 snaps or the average would be higher.
So, it looks like this reflects more on what the rest of the season could have been with a healthier receiving corps than the WR usage in the last three losses.

I wonder how often an injury-riddled team comes back healthy and stays healthy the next season. The OL and WRs especially. It seems like every starter is making a comeback.

Fanofdabucs. You got it right. But, speaking of the receivers that Licht has amassed here in Tampa. I’ve watched alot of great receiving groups over too many years. Of course Evans is an all time great. But the kind of workers that JMac, Chris and Emeka are is indeed a rare mix. These three love the grind of the game, it just shows out. And it’s fixing to pay off. And I ain’t whistling Dixie.

I have posted here lots in the past couple years about how the offence should look. This just confirms it in my mind.
We are an offensive gunslinging team. We lost to Wash in the playoffs because we didn’t match their gameplan and play 4 downs on offence. With Coen at the helm and our weapons, we would have flipped the TOP and won that game.
You know what the best thing is about being 3 wide with those guys or 4 wide with JMac… you hit a couple plays, don’t even have to be explosives or long passes, but couple first downs outta that look and then you can run the ball from it.
All of a sudden 2nd and 7, 4 wide set we run a mid draw or draw play and the RB has holes to get the 1st himself.
4th and 2… 4 wide. I dare you to stack the box for a Baker sneak or Bucky run.

Grizz did have to deal with the injuries, but his playcalling did not help the situation at all. He turned out to be horrible.

I believe the real problem was Grizzard not Bowles yes this offense should have been able to score an carry the defense the Bucs had a good enough team to win the injuries on the OLine derailed the season because when just the WRs were hurt they found a way but a soon as Baker ja the OLine went down we were screwed
