Have Your Say On Dirk Koetter

The weekly Dirk Koetter Confidence Poll, a 24-hour flash poll, is back and will run Wednesdays through the season. Poll posted at 12:01 a.m.

  1. D-Rome Says:

Little confidence. The most talented Bucs team in years, with pro-bowl players at every level on defense, went 5-11 and performed worse than the 2015 team. Bucs fans are living in dark times if they are clinging to 9-7 (“WE’RE NINE AND SEVENNNNNNN!!!!!!!!”)

On a semi related note, I did not think Jameis looked good at training camp yesterday.

  2. Walter Seidel Says:

    C’mon Joe……….do a Jameis poll !!!

  3. Not there yet Says:

Little confident…. He’s running a better camera this year but it’s his play calling that just seems to be too timid and safe. Wanna see more touchdowns less field goals.

  4. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Joe

Where is the “very confident but will be torpedoed by Winston”!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. JG Says:

This team sucks, no confidence, no identity, no qb, no defense(yeah; yeah – new players I know; they’d won’t be any better than 20th in the league. 4-12 or 5-11….. looking forward to the team reset…….

  6. Harry in Costa Rica Says:

I voted “confident” and I would have voted much higher, but it has become clear to me that Kotter has a little Lovie-like stubbornness in him. That became abundantly clear with the reliance on Doug Martin (that was not just Licht) vs Barber.

  7. Foustie Says:

Very confident, we had the 4th rated pass offense last year. This is the year we put it all together and go on a run! Winston comes back in week four to save everyone’s job.

  8. AlteredEgo Says:

    Hasn’t been a coaching problem… it’s been a talent problem

  9. Bucsfan951 Says:

Little confidence. Red zone scoring seems to still be an issue and I wish he would’ve handed off the play calling

  10. Trench War Says:

When Fitz can come in last season and win 2 out 3 games that tells me that Winston is our problem. I’m not saying Fitz is our solution but that we need for Winston to quit with all the turnovers. What good is it for us to go up and down the field between the 20’s only to give up the goose while in scoring position. Then we blame it on the defense for giving up a short field score. Koetter’s predictability with his base conservative play calling is directly connected to Winston’s propensity to turn the ball over. meaning: he’s running base offensive calls to try to put Winston in a better position to succeed.

Problem is, it’s not fooling any defenses and puts Winston in duress where he’s making mistakes.

Just recently Koetter said in his presser that he has full confidence in Fitz because he’s very smart and has command of his playbook. Seems innocent, but reading between the lines, Koetter is confident he can use his whole playbook when Fitz is at QB, unlike with Winston. Koetter won’t directly say this and throw Winston under the bus but I bet if you could ask the coach off the record which QB he feels more comfortable with starting the season, and saving his regime the most, he would say Fitz.

I’m confident with Koetter until Winston comes back. Then it’s up to Winston.

“Little confidence. The most talented Bucs team in years, with pro-bowl players at every level on defense, went 5-11 and performed worse than the 2015 team.”

The defense was not good enough because of Smith, not Koetter, and probowl players at every level???? Are you crazy?

Also, if you are going to use the past, use his entire time here as head coach. That 9-7 season DID happen.

  12. D-Rome Says:

Seems innocent, but reading between the lines, Koetter is confident he can use his whole playbook when Fitz is at QB, unlike with Winston.

Yikes, you’re starting to sound like the Joe’s with that comment interpreting what wasn’t said or counting how many wrinkles are on his forehead. 🙂

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I voted totally confident. And shame on anyone for voting different. If you have, you most likely had your mind made up at the end of last season.

You can blame the play calling all you want, but the fact is he is an offensive coach who has given the Bucs the best offense of their existence.

You can blame his defense all you want, but its not his defense and Mike Smith didn’t have the players to succeed. The fact that he does now should instill confidence.

You can blame Winston all you want, but this poll didn’t ask about Winston. If you are judging every player and coach on this team because you feel badly about Winston, you are an idiot and not a Bucs fan. Welcome to the life of being a troll.

With the improvements to this team, the only thing that could hod it back is another injury nightmare scenario. Everyone here should be super excited, and if you are not, shame on you.

    Are you kidding me???

What did you expect him to say? “We’re having to have our backup play and I’m not confident in him at all.”

    Get serious, man.

Example of the worst kind of fan. If you feel the same way? You’re not a Buccaneers fan. Heck, you are about as far from it as you can get. You say choose to ignore the off season. You choose to ignore that they also had a winning season the one before last. You want constant upheaval and chaos (because it has worked so well in the past).

Again…welcome to the life of a troll!

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Thing to keep in mind:

Koetter did not just have a losing season. He also had a winning season.
The offense is the best this team has ever had.
The Bucs had weaknesses last year. This off season, all of them were addressed.
    McCoy is finally not alone.
Secondary has been bolstered at CB and S.
The running game has been addressed.
The kicking game has been addressed.

And my favorite…the bucs were a snails hair away from flipping their record to 11-5 last year. Starting the season with a good kicker would have won us 2 more games, making us 7-9. If the defense had not blown the lead in the final minutes after 4 comebacks to take the lead, we would have won 4 more games. 7+4=11 wins.

And that was with an injured starting QB, 21 of 22 starters injured, losing a bye week and Hard Knocks.

This team is going to take a huge leap forward this year, and people will act like its a surprise. But that’s because they are not objectively looking at things. If they were, they would know that The Bucs are much better than the win loss record of last year.

  17. 813bucboi Says:

    NO CONFIDENCE!!!!!

ive been voting “no confidences” since November!!!…lol…..

the NFL is a “what have you done for me lately business” and lately, dirk went 5-11 with a #4passing offense that couldn’t score points…..

the defense had PBers at each level(GMC,LVD,KWON,Grimes) and couldn’t stop a runny nose….

the special team regressed big time…..

the dirk fan mob has more excuses for this man than a convict…..lol….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  18. Buccfan37 Says:

Confident because little or no confidence are out of the question in my mind going into a new season.

  19. D-Rome Says:

This team is going to take a huge leap forward this year, and people will act like its a surprise.

I hope you’re right and I’m wrong. We’re entering the second year in a row where the “team looks great on paper”.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

how can you be confidence in a guy that’s on the ‘HOT SEAT”?…..lol….

yeah, im confident dirk will show everyone why he’s on the hot seat…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

i gave Dirk the benefit of the doubt and said Confident. I actually think there is a category needed just below confident like,WAIT AND SEE. I just don’t and will not accept the sorry A.. excuses anymore..yr after Yr. This franchise need to come up and start Winning. To be in existence over 40 yrs and not having a winning record at least half of those yrs is outright Embarrassing..Pityful and unacceptable. Clean house and start anew if this coaching staff cannot bring the ship in victorious or at least…8-8.

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“how can you be confidence in a guy that’s on the ‘HOT SEAT”?”

How do you know he’s on the hotseat, other than the opinions of media?

People said the same thing about Licht, and the Glazers just extended him.

  23. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

I like the way he manages players, they obviously fought for him last year down the stretch.

I do lack faith in his ability to adjust during games, or even during the season for that matter (see Djax usage)

I lack faith in his ability to play the best players (see the inexcusable use of Doug Martin last year, when even 0-16 hue jackson would have switched to Peyton Barber)

I lack faith in his ability to properly gameplan and call plays (see lack of redzone productivity/predictability in each of his seasons here)

    Little Confidence

  24. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

    Ah. last but not least.

I lack faith in his weak and soft practices

  25. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

and to clarify. I am confident in this team and I am optimistic for this year.

I just have my noted reservations in DK. Maybe he improves?

  26. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Its very simple…

Can Klueless playcall touchdowns in the redzone/scoring territory or not…its that simple…

“Kobe has zero confidense that Klueless is an effective playcaller”

    Kobe Faker

  27. Darin Says:

    Bonzai
Get your head out of your ass. Where’s the game and time management on your lists? A coach his age whos been around as long as he has still making rookie mistakes. Most games are 1 score. The head coaches decisions will win or lose them. Ive seen enough. A better record is expected but i also expect the HC to lose a few games with his bone headed decisions and/or the opposing coach outsmarting him. We need a coach who thinks many steps ahead. Hope the Glazers get help finding him next time!

  28. Justafan Says:

    1) The rules are geared toward offense. A team with no run game 15-25 years ago would be just as horrible as the teams Dungy and Gruden fielded with crappy QBs.

    2) Danny Snyder spent years putting names on the field that resulted in absolutely no reward for the Redskins. Our improvements are on paper, and until they prove something on the field it’s just a hope and a prayer that they do better than the absolutely craptastic performance last year.

    3) 10/43. That’s the Bucs record of playoff seasons vs the number of seasons they’ve been in the league. And that means there have been exactly three coaches that were able to get this franchise to the post season.

Being a cheerleader is great, the world needs cheerleaders. But when the blind cheerleader starts trying to shame people who actually pay attention, it’s time you picked up your pom poms and shut the hell up.

    ***************************************************************

    because he shat the bed!!!!!!

and @DARIN gave a perfect example of other reasons why he’s on the hot seat!!!!!!

better question is, why do you think he’s not on the hot seat?…because he was head of the #4passing offense…that couldn’t score!!!!….GTFOH!!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

People said the same thing about Licht, and the Glazers just extended him.

not true…..I always thought, and still do think licht has done a decent job but the coaches have screwed him over with poor clock management, lack of adjustments, bad personnel, predictable play calling, lack of player development I mean damn the list goes on and on…..

happy to hear, as you stated above that those issues have been addressed so their is no room for EXCUSES this year…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Dirk’s offenses have the same problems every year with no fix in sight. Any confidence he can figure it out is unfounded.

  32. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Anyone who is confident is giving this pathetic franchise a free pass and living in la la land. Until this pathetic franchise EARNS it on the field on Sunday’s they are nothing more than pathetic losers who have not won a meaningful game in 16 years.

Confidence and respect are earned these fools have not earned a damn thing

  33. Schwifty9 Says:

After seeing the refusal to make any real, significant offense to the structure, pace, and play-calling of the offense last season, in addition to the strange desire to stick with Doug Martin through last season instead of insisting that drafting a RB be a priority in a historically deep 2017 class, and the gross under-use of OJ Howard and Chris Godwin early on and during the mid part of the last year, I have little confidence in Dirk Koetter.

And that lack of confidence is only exacerbated by the fact that he chose to stick with his best bud Mike Smith who was unquestionable the WORST defensive coordinator of 2017.

I thought Dirk did a phenomenal Job making the most out of the available talent in 2016. And I thought he did equally awful at that in 2017 when the entire offense and team as a whole under-achieved severely.

    Significant *changes or adjustments*

  36. Dan Says:

For those who voted confident I must ask for a loosing NFL coach who has blown close games and not proven anything is your confidence based in reality or just more classic post chucky Bucs wishful thinking. Since you have no evidence to support what you believe then it must be the latter.Domt feel bad tho I used to have blond faith in this organization and coaches. But let’s all face it. We love our Bucs but these coaches and owners are gonna deliver a 4-12 season just as sure as we are watching. Sorry to be the voice of reason early in the season but we all know Dirk is gone after this year. Go Bucs!!

  37. Doug Says:

Dirk is a good coach, and it will show now that he has a consistent quarterback guiding the ship.
