Mike Evans Shares His Secrets To Success

August 18th, 2018

Mike Evans needs to “take the hits.”

The stat pattern says Mike Evans is poised for a monster season in 2018.

But if Evans does get back to his 2014 or 2016 form, it will be because he’s just following his simple formula.

Evans shared that with Titans media in Nashville this week after the Bucs and Titans practiced against each other. The locals asked his advice for second-year Titans receiver Corey Davis. The No. 5 overall pick last year had a rough start to his career. Injuries cut his playing time, and there was no touchdown among his 34 receptions.

“It’s simple. Just play football. Be coachable. Play football. Take care of your body and the success will come,” Evans said.

Man, what a breath of fresh air Evans is.

As for tonight’s game, remember that Evans said in June he craves preseason action and needs it to be successful.

“I need those preseason games,” Evans said. “I need at least one or two preseason games to get right and know where I need to be at. Because receiver is one of the hardest as far as being tired and being fatigued. So you get about 50 or 60 plays as a starting receiver per game. And you gotta run those plays full speed, take the hits. Yeah, I wouldn’t be able to play next week.”

Joe gets that Evans wants a good dress rehearsal type of game tonight. As much as Dirk Koetter and his QBs pound the ball to Evans, one of the most targeted receivers in the NFL, he legitimately needs the reps to be game-ready.

As for the pattern Joe referenced, Evans was superior in his rookie and third seasons. And he was down (for his high standard) in Years 2 and 4. So Joe expects a bounce back season, especially with Evans completely ridding himself of the K-Y hands that plagued him in 2015.

Well I hope he never misses pre-season and plays week 1. He just admitted he wont be able to play week 2. lol

Seems the NFL is changing how coaches use PS games.

Once upon a time, the 3rd PS game was the dress rehearsal.

Now seems the 2nd game is the dress rehearsal, and third is a refinement of the dress rehearsal.

4th game is for camp meat on display for Waiver Wire Warriors.

Anyone know why nfl network is playing a old browns game instead of live Jax vs Vikes as listed? Game is in Minn so ruled out local blackout.

Baker Mayfield is a good guess.

  8. Stanglassman Says:

Baker was great to watch the first two times but I’d like to watch the live Jags vs Vikings game that’s on the tv listing. Cousin’s revenge game.

A big part of the reason Evans was less successful last year was his inability to adjust to all the PI……..I like how he mentioned to be coachable. That’s what you need to correct there problems.

Just like he corrected his drops in 2016 I expect Evans to correct his PI problem this year.

I think the Evans-Winston connection is not superficial professionalism. Evan’s really believes in Winston.
