Bucs Must Prepare For Jameis Winston To Get Bad Marks In League-Ordered “Clinical Evaluation”

June 28th, 2018

Team Glazer and Jason Licht have much to consider

As part of the ugly new NFL report that effectively brands Jameis Winston as a sex offender, the league has ordered Jameis to undergo a “clinical evaluation.”

While it’s unclear for what America’s Quarterback will be evaluated, and who will do the evaluating, it’s fair to assume it will be psychological and sexual in nature and Jameis may come out of it with poor scores and be ordered to undergo treatment that will be a distraction and a bad look for a face of a franchise.

Per the NFL, “as part of the discipline, Winston is also required to obtain a clinical evaluation and fully cooperate in any recommended program of therapeutic intervention. A failure either to obtain the evaluation or to cooperate with treatment will result in further discipline. In addition, a future violation of the Personal Conduct Policy will result in more substantial discipline, including a potential ban from the NFL.”

So what now for the Bucs at quarterback?

It’s bad enough for the team that Jameis got a three-game suspension, what if he’s ordered into therapy sessions that clash with a dedicated QBs grueling schedule?

Very murky road ahead for Bucs management.

Just cut him. I’d offer a 3rd rounder to Philly to pry Foles away. Would they take it? I don’t know. Sick of the annual Winston drama. Will he fix this? Will he fix that? Will he be a clown with W-eating, head butts, and going after another team’s players? I don’t wanna have these conversations anymore. Your franchise QB after 3 years shouldn’t have so many open questions.

  2. Tom S. Says:

Still supporting Licht as GM Joe?

Maybe that 22-42 record actually means he’s a sh*t evaluator after all? Or are you hoping for a 20 sack performance from JPP before you close the book on him? LOL

  3. motorboater Says:

    Thanks Lovie.

  4. The Buc Realist Says:

Whatever the evaluation turns out, One result will be clear, is that Jameis Winston is NO H0m0!!!!!!!!!

  5. JJV Says:

They have too much invested in him with time and money. And money talks. Wonder if the fans will continue supporting him? Less fans = less money. Decisions.

  6. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Some of us think Jameis may have Bipolar Disorder, and possible Alcoholism issues.
Assuming he does, and these issues get identified by the Mental Health professionals, this may be a good thing.
Being either Mentally Ill or an Alcoholic are no shame. Let’s remember Brett Favre never met a Narcotic Pill he did not like.

  7. Fire the glazers Says:

JW is worth more than that… sex offender or not… someone would pull the trigger and give up multiple high draft picks for him… most likely a team already set up for success…
    Redskins, Giants, Patriots, Dolphins…
I don’t see the glazers giving up on him yet…
I hope JW gets evaluated by a shrink.

  8. DB55 Says:

But you see if the where at all competent they would have set this up the day he was drafted. And do it for all the players. Could have helped ASJ too, Martin, freeman, Winslow shall I go on?

The meth capital of the world has a drug and alcohol problem I’m shocked! Lol,smh.

But bar 76 though should be a great cash-cow. #priorities

  9. DB55 Says:

Well heck we’ll the GM is walking around in flip-flops all day chugging back pitchers and staring and bikini bottoms what more can you expect.

Pretty sure they will allow him to schedule his sessions around his work schedule . Where do you come up with these ridiculous statemnts? Or is it intern day at JBF

  11. Costa Rica John Says:

The Bucs will handle the three game suspension just fine. Fitzpatrick is a good backup and will lead the team in the right direction. Winston will weather the storm and be a better person for it. Stay positive and good things will happen. Negativity will just bring you down.

  12. Roy T. Buford Says:

NOW I will say what it looked like was aligning in multiple accounts.

He is lucky there is no civil suit but just to be clear, the State of Arizona could stil press charges IF they think there is enough evidence. The SOL for civil suit has passed. He will (again?) avoid criminal charges/conviction more than likely, but he clearly is a liar, screed the men who gave him a chance, who put their faith and trust in him…as the NFL indeed thinks Jameis is a sex offender.

We should happy we got these results end of June. Thank you NFL for the timely results. You got no help from the accused for sure-but the team still has time. Now the Bucs can get the season on track ahead of camp–let’s go after Foles and get this season moving in realistic fashion.

Let BS artist and America’s lying con-man sex offender, Jameis Winston, get his counseling and rehab away from Tampa, away from females here. This is no longer a hassle. It is a concluded investigation.

  13. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Thank God this is done. So a few more days of people freaking out then hopefully we can move forward.

I can’t wait to see America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston light it up this season and send the haters back to their caves for the rest of eternity.

I don’t think Jameis has any mental concerns. I think he figured out what I did at 25, if drinking makes you do stupid $h!t then you need to cut that stuff out. Hopefully he has learned my other lesson, cut the bad apples off the tree.

    Go Bucs Baby!!

  14. Joe Blahak Says:

Belicheat loves ex-Bucs…Good place for him..

  15. Anonymous Says:

OBP statement will go something like this:

Jameis’ suspension is unfortunate. We will do everything in our power to get him the help he needs.

  16. Cover Deuce Says:

The league didn’t brand JW as a sex offender. His own actions have done that. Quit trying to pass the blame, Joe.

  17. Joe Blahak Says:

What does Breezy think of this, I wonder?

  18. Roy T. Buford Says:

Jameis spit in the face of the Glazers, his team mates back in November. Then more recently, with “No Fear” challenged truth and justice…stepped back and p*ssed all over the whole sport and everyone else again and again. AND THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME–don’t forget that. Yes, JW, get fixed, but do it somewhere else. Thank God we know now, so early.

Oh, Jameis will be on the roster in ’18…as the #3 QB. Who is the first real victim outside the Uber car? Poor Ryan Griffin.

  19. Cover Deuce Says:

The league didn’t brand JW a sex offender. His own actions, past and present, did that. He lied. He lied to the team – once by omission, and again in his explicit denial. He lied to the media. He lied to the fans. And here you are, Joe, still coddling and making excuses for a grown man. Pathetic. Where did Joe make an excuse? Of course, you won’t find that.–Joe

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

No longer a “hassle” is correct….

  21. Walter Seidel Says:

“America’s quarterbacks” don’t need clinical evaluation for sex offenses. STOP IT JOE!!! IT”S STUPID!!!

  22. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Dunderbox Licht needs to go, he should have known and could of pursued Case Keenum or one of the rookie qbs but he just did the same BS as his entire tenure

  23. BucfanBF Says:

I dont know a man alive who doesn’t like SEX! In fact most of us love it. Pretty sure that we don’t for the most part grab random women in the crouch though.

  24. Roy T. Buford Says:

One Buc is also certainly working with Jameis and his counsel to craft Jameis’s own statement. Look to see him make it AWAY from the podium in the auditorium. Agreed, Bucs organization’s statement will be generic and dry. Probably follow it up when they get their way forward down, and perhaps not until they bring someone else in to spot Fitz…and/or to compete with him for the 2018 starting job. So GM Jason will work later than normal for the next several nights/weeks, I’d bet.

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Reality check:
The NFL would have suspended him longer if they did not feel he had already taken steps to improve himself since the incident.

The clinical evaluation probably won’t recommend therapy. Why? Because since this transpired, Jameis quit drinking, became involved in the community, got married and he has a kid on the way.

He’s a different man than he was 2.5 years ago. Obviously, the commissioner feels that way or he would have added more games. Heck, Jameis not planning to appeal is proof he has changed.

  26. spicoli0525 Says:

Really still repping “America’s Quarterback” Joe? How about America’s crotch grabber

  27. Roy T. Buford Says:

Next year’s 3rd (settle for 2nd if needed) and 7th round for Foles. The fact he can get here and compete fully in camp let’s team move foward without missing a beat. Foles is only 29. Make JW #3 and use him for trade bait if a starter gets injured elsewhere.

  28. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Roy T., statements are already put from Jameis and the Bucs as well.

Also what the heck are you rambling about. You sound like an old man yelling at the kids to get off his lawn.

  29. Trench War Says:

If Jameis gets bad marks in the league-ordered “clinical evaluation” I wonder, if any further actions could be taken against him on top of the already imposed 3 game suspension?

  30. Joel Says:

He’s gotta go. He lied to all of us as well. See ya.

  31. Roy T. Buford Says:

@Bonzai…how do we know Jameis quit drinking? We thought he quit being disrespectful to women and now apparently, all out committing sexual assault. But we don’t know. We know he lied recently recently. I feel sorry for his family to be more than him. He is not going to escape therapy on this. Con-job W-eating fight causing mem yelling food stealing BB shooting sex offender…..and former face of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  32. Jay Says:

This is unfortunate and incredibly stupid of Winston. I can’t say I’ve never done anything stupid myself but I’ve never been paid millions to play a game or the resources to keep myself out of this situations. I think the Bucs have a lot to think about but ultimately this will end bad for us the fans, if this kid gets cut we will be in the hunt for another ” Franchise QB” I say cut him but what else is out there to replace him? We are royally F???

  33. Roy T. Buford Says:

    @Alaskan…thanks for the guide…

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The fact that some of you want Foles over Winston proves you are idiots in my book.

Before this last season, you all felt Foles was horrible. He has one good year because he was surround with a good defense, and you think he is an answer???

    Dimwits.

  35. AlteredEgo Says:

How can Jameis in his apology….say…”While I am disappointed in the NFL’s decision”….the guy is phony in denial….

  36. pick6 Says:

have been rooting for Jameis to make his critics on and off the field eat their words from day 1, but he seems have done the opposite during his pro career.

At this point, as a bucs fan you kinda have to hope that this evaluation uncovers something addressable that he can fix with guidance and willpower. Otherwise it’s a matter of character and values, which are pretty firmly set by the time one is an adult. Brandon Marshall is a testament to the fact that if the issue comes down to mental health, managing it can change one’s life and career.

  37. Wausa Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai

    Thank you for writing that.
If Jameis can get out of his own way he will become a great QB

  38. BucFromTexas Says:

Morale of the story, don’t use Uber alone. There was no proof or evidence found against Jameis, just his word against hers. He knew he couldn’t win it so he struck a deal with the NFL to get his sentence cut in half and not appeal.

  39. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Roy T. Buford Says:
    ” committing sexual assault.”

    It was not sexual assault.

Did Jameis know it was unwanted before he was informed? No.

Did Jameis stop once he was informed? Yes.

Not sexual assault. That’s why no charges were filed, that’s why he only got 3 games.

  40. pick6 Says:

on a side note, it would probably be amusing and more than a little sad to run a survey to see how many of the folks who are screaming that Jameis is not fit to be in charge of a football team are also voters for and apologists of the celebrator of sexual assault currently in charge of the country.

  41. Tom S. Says:

Bonzai, I disagree with your understanding of the situation entirely.

As noted on the Ira podcast, the NFL, Jameis reps etc were very likely in a negotiation this past week plus in order to tidy up the suspension. The reason Jameis gets 3 and not more is in part his agreement

    1. To follow the plan outlined under the suspension
    2. Not to appeal.
    3. To issue a formal apology (essentially admitting guilt without directly saying it).

They likely had the uber drivers reps come to an agreement about the case as well, since Jameis would otherwise be prone to a lawsuit which he surely wouldn’t want to apologize in front of otherwise.

Regarding your belief that things are very different because Jameis got married, he’s been dating the same woman he married since he was a freshman at FSU. The same one he cheated on and during which was alleged to have raped a girl coming from a bar in Tallahassee. Let’s not go crazy on this 180 turnaround quite yet…

  42. Big Bucco Says:

Still calling him “America’s quarterback” is a bad look. You’ve shown in the past that you’ll stop using positive monikers when they no longer fit. Please drop this one.

  43. Chris K Says:

So we didn’t get the Messiah as was promised by Joe and all the guys in here that screamed and yelled at anyone who even questioned the character concerns? I’ll say it one last time. If you’re drafting a face to your franchise character matters! No matter what Joe and any other Donkey tried selling us. Now we must overcome this embarrassment to our organization with or without Jameis is the near future. I will also say this one more time, as long as Jameis is our starting quarterback I will and have supported him. That does not mean they aren’t feeling the shame associated with this, because we all are. Next time we’re in a similar position I hope for the love of God we can remember this embarrassment as a lesson. Nobody better ever try to shove a red flagged character concern player down our throats again just because he goes to a State college. Draft the guy that makes you proud to call your own and who’s gonna lead men like a real man. I hope Jameis turns it all around and becomes that elite quarterback and leader of men we were all forced to buy into. Until that does happen though we will be mocked by the rest of the league for who he currrently is!

  44. Jjones Says:

Americas QB he is not so just stop it with that BS. Americas QB shouldn’t be represented by a habitual liar and sexual offender.

I wasn’t a Jameis supporter in the beginning but I gave him benefit of the doubt and I was wrong. I used to make excuses for his behavior and everything that happened at FSU and I was wrong. At some point you have to wash your hands of a bad situation and I’m done with him.

From a human standpoint I hope he gets help and gets better but I hope he does it someplace else.

  45. Roy T. Buford Says:

@Bonzai, you said: “Did Jameis know it was unwanted before he was informed? No. Did Jameis stop once he was informed? Yes. Not sexual assault.”

No, Bonzai, you don’t get to grab people by their genitals at their work place and test to see if it’s okay–and stop if it’s not.

In the State of Arizona it is called Sexual Abuse…it would be Sexual Assualt in Florida and other states. It is a Class 5 felony in Arizona IF they charged him. In both states conviction means the person is a sex offendor and registers accordingly.

Under ARI 13-404, sexual abuse may be charged if a person has sexual contact with anyone who is over the age of 15 and who has not provided that person with consent. In these cases, sexual contact is defined as any type of fondling, touching or manipulation of a person’s breasts, genitalia or anus.

He’s not been charged with that (yet, likely not at all) but the NFL apparently thinks he did it.

You just name called people for asking for Folk as QB and then you say this? Dude get a grip… Simply google search what a sexual assault is, please. You cant touch a woman you dont know period end of story. Sexually touching her is in fact sexual assualt… YES Winston is a great young qb but this dude clearly has a problem and if you can’t see that then that’s on you…

Matter of fact I will save you the google search. Here is a link to a .gov definition of sexual assault… https://www.womenshealth.gov/relationships-and-safety/sexual-assault-and-rape

  50. firethecannons Says:

Honestly–this dude needs evaluation and therapy–he made a huge mistake when intoxicated. Luckily he was in an uber not a car driven by himself or his drunk friends. Like I said yesterday he probably has an alcohol problem and needs treatment–hope he gets it. Many violent crimes are traced back to an alcoholic origin. He needs to stay away from it from here on out–hope he gets weekly psychotherapy–I think it might help his game too.

Seriously give up multiple high picks? No one would at least until he stayed our of trouble and played well this year, cmon. He would be hard pressed to get an extension or his tag yer at $20 million at this point. If he does anything else he may be suspended by the league for years, it’s in the NFL statement.

I agree with you; I think the Glazers support him one more time. Let’s see how far he’s improved himself these past 2 plus years and see how he plays as well. Just sucks.

  52. Jjones Says:

@Bonzai…Grabbing a womans P without permission is 100% sexual assault! Only a bigot or womanizer would think differently.

“Did Jameis know it was unwanted before he was informed? No.”

WTF are you talking about?! You always assume its unwanted, it’s called being polite, having respect and having some F’ing manners for gods sake. She’s driving an Uber with a drunk and unruly passenger and being drunk isnt a turn on for most women if any for that matter. And of course HE thought it was okay because he was DRUNK which is no excuse. There is no defense for this type of behavior whatsoever.

  53. Gambelero Says:

We definitely disagree on this one, Joe. There’s no pass/fail, he’s a good guy/he’s a bad guy evaluation. As long as he attends the therapeutic whatever, he’ll be okay. Emphasis on “attends.”

  54. passthebuc Says:

For those that think he could be traded for a high draft pick, I seriously doubt it. However, if someone offered a first or second for him, I would ship him off in a heartbeat. This is strictly a business move on my part, If I have a number 2 pick in my pocket, I know what it is worth. With JW. you don’t know and may not know for years. I take the bird in the hand.

  55. Tony LA Says:

    @bonzai

    Do this for me…
Walk up to someone random in public and punch them in the face. When the cops come tell them you were not aware he didn’t want to be punched in the face before you hit him.

Tell me how that goes for you.

  56. JJ Says:

For those who are blaming Licht for drafting Jameis, don’t forget the Glazers would have to ok the pick. They all knew what they are getting into.

It’s way too early to decide what to do with Jameis. Let’s see how the evaluation comes out.

  57. Kevin Nieto Says:

Don’t bury him yet. I work with families in the foster care system and the point of clinical or psychological evaluation is to obtain treatment recommendations and determine the probability of success in alleviating the conditions that led to system involvement. In this instance, Winston’s ability to accept responsibility for his actions and substantively change his life – e.g. giving up alcohol, getting married, etc.. – bodes well for his chances of success in alleviating those conditions – namely, piss poor judgment and his treatment of women. If I was working with him, I would say he has said and, to the extent possible at the this early stage, done all the right things given his egregious and grotesque conduct.
The man is 24 years old, he had just turned 22 when this happened. If we want to see him competing for championships in the next five to ten years, we may have to extend him that opportunity to grow past this and learn from it. Will we be rewarded? Only time will tell.
Now is truly the time to speak softly my friends.

  58. Buchead5588 Says:

100% support My QB #3 an Licht An Dirk all the Buccaneers this is over 2 years old An Jameis is a model QB An has changed a lot Family got his back Let’s go Buccaneers

  59. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Sorry, but you guys are wrong. Assuming there is any element of truth to the allegations (and Jameis did NOT say there was), you don’t know the circumstances. They could have been flirting with each other and he carried it a step too far.

I have been groped by at least 20+ women and it was never considered assault.

Maybe in your politically correct worlds it is, but if he was actually guilty of assault, charges would have been filed. You can’t justify yourselves around that.

And if the welfare of this team is so important to all of you, then why are most of you choosing now to show your faces when you should have been supporting the team all along? Unless, of course, you are cowards and are using newly created usernames to avoid being brought to task.

I respect the opinions of those who have an established presence here, even if I do not agree. But the rest of you? Creating accounts just to express contempt? Such pettiness.

  60. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Also, stop twisting history. Lovie pushed for Jameis, not Licht.

  61. TheDailyCoroner Says:

He needs to be evaluated for sexual addiction. It is not an Official DSM (psychiatric) diagnosis. It is also a form of “impaired sexual impulse control”. Jameis (and Warren Sapp certainly) have issues.
    There are recognized evaluation centers.
Perhaps weekly Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) meetings.
    Hmmmm.

  62. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

JW will be fine. Wether that’s with the Bucs or elsewhere remains to be seen. I believe this is the wake up call he needed. He’s out of mulligans and has to develop and live a spotless life throughout his career and I believe that he will. By the way I hope he retires a Tampa Bay Buccaneer

  63. Tom S. Says:

Bonzai killing it with innacurcies. Really it’s a skill you have. I do not think someone needs to be “politically correct” to think being touched on the crotch without their consent is sexual assault.

I’ve had people steal from me Bonzai, I assume many people have had someone take something from them. Just because I didn’t file a police report each time does that mean it didn’t happen.

To your point that Jameis didn’t say there was any truth to the allegation, he apologized and took a 3 game suspension. He initially lied about who was in the car and his alibi crumbled when they investigated the GPS and witnesses. Now Jameis has gone to the “I don’t recall” defense while thinking he can say he doesnt believe he did it. Which is it Jameis?

And to your very ego centric “I’ve been groped by at least 20+ women.” They clearly never saw your writing because if they did I’m sure getting groped by women wouldn’t be a problem for you anymore.

  64. Tom S. Says:

Bonzai to rather provably quiet your made up facts about Jameis being a Lovie pick and not a Light pick (which is a complete joke btw)

FAB 2. WINSTON REMINDS BUCS OF BRADY, MARINO, RIVERS
Tampa Bay’s new quarterback, Jameis Winston, who was the first overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft, started off as a Jason Licht pick. The Bucs general manager had been on his trail since his days in Arizona working for Cardinals general manager Steve Keim and head coach Bruce Arians, scouting Winston as a redshirt freshman in 2013 while he was guiding Florida State to a national championship.

Winston then became a Lovie Smith pick after the head coach joined the scouting process in January after the conclusion of the 2014 season. Smith saw Winston first hand in the Rose Bowl as he outperformed Oregon’s Marcus Mariota despite the end of his 26-game winning streak due to the Seminoles being routed by the Ducks

  65. Ghastly Bucs Says:
