Getting On Same Page

April 11th, 2018

Bucs WR DeSean Jackson posts an Instagram photo with Jameis Winston while the two were working out in Tallahassee.

Now this is an encouraging sign.

As Bucs fans in recent days took a deep breath from draft talk to kvetch about why America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, and speedy wide receiver DeSean Jackson were not on the same page last year, Jameis took to Twitter and vowed to show the world how valuable Jackson is.

Yesterday, Jackson took his turn on social media posting an Instagram photo with Jameis. Both were taking a break from working out together at Florida State’s indoor football facility in Tallahassee.

This brings a smile to Joe’s face for one reason: The two could easily have gone to a local Tampa Bay area high school to work out or even use South Florida’s facilities. Instead, the two drove (?) the four-plus hours to Tallahassee to work out.

Even more encouraging is that Jackson chose to go Tallahassee, too.

Will this magically cure the timing between the two? Only time will tell. But it is a step in the right direction.

Very encouraging I’m proud of the duo for attempting to atleast make it work.

  2. Buccaneer scotty Says:

    Yes!!!!

  3. Tval Says:

The necessary work needed. Seeing kirwan, and bucs fans comments, makes me think relativity is lost on most football minds. You cant compare dak year 1, or carson year 2 best oline run games the last 2 seasons, to ANY “team” the bucs have put around Jameis..let jameis go to minnesota next year…see what happens..lol!!

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Djax this year at voluntary OTAs joe. by this he’s showing he’s committed to fixing the chemistry problem with Jameis and that he’s NOT here just for the money. I’ll go on record now Joe and say this,if Jameis can start connecting with Djax on the long pass, hold on NFC…I mean NFL! Tampa will take the league you storm! And you better hope Saquoan Barkley doesn’t fall to us or we go up and get him because then there will be hell to pay.

  5. Buc4life Says:

Work I out off-season with your young qb makes zero difference…seriously this is a great sign…i just wish he would have done this last year

  6. JA Says:

Last year the chemistry set was spilled over the floor. It’s nice to see the perpetrators of the spill make an attempt to put it back together.

  7. Bob in Valrico Says:

I think there may have been an overemphasis on getting the ball to DJAX last year. Evans and Jameis only connected on 5 TD’s last year. Also the the longest
pass to Evans was 41 yards which was completed by Fitz. Just pointing out that
Evans is also a weapon that Jameis shouldn’t forget, about along with Godwin our rising star,OJ,Brate and Hump. Spread the ball out, don’t lock in on any receiver.

  8. Eric Says:

    Look how fat Jameis is….

  9. Humpty Dumpty Says:

I saw them workout first hand…trust me when I say that Jameis is NOT fat and they were connecting well. Worked a lot on come back routes and then transitioned into go routes. They looked great!

  10. Bucsfanman Says:

Get that work in boys! Playoffs or bust!

  11. Joe Says:

wouldn’t be surprised to see Djax this year at voluntary OTAs joe.

    Crossed Joe’s mind as well.

  12. Horse Liver Says:

Desean needs new contacts or something. There were a handful of throws where if Desean could have seen the ball and adjusted to it, he could have made a big play. This is on both of them, but Jameis needs to stop forcing it to Desean and throw him open.

  13. Aaron Says:

To me Djax is a pre-snap read…if he ever gets single press coverage…it should be an automatic throw to him…they have to figure this out…no reason we should ever see 8 men in the box…this how to improve your running game.

Technically Djax is in a contract year. He has a no commitment $10m deal next year (2019)…so I can him getting out there to get this thing fixed – its in his bet interest.

  14. tnew Says:

This is great news. They both need this. Offseason is the time that wins are made. Chuckling at the fat comment, if anything he is leaner than he ever has been.

  15. Pickgrin Says:

Good deal. Glad to see it. DJax is one hell of a weapon and can play a big roll in helping to turn this losing team around if he and Winston can get some good “chemistry” working.

It only takes a couple or few successful long hook-ups during the season to see opposing defenses loosen up substantially and play less ‘8 in the box’ looks. This would allow the Bucs run game and short, over the middle passing game to open up.

  16. ManzielMadness Says:

Good… Jackson adds a different dimension to this offense. Wonder if Koetter would be willing to let DJax return punts every once in a while?

  17. Alpha Buc fan Says:

I think Eric needs contacts too. 3 looks like he’s dropping the fat now just hope he puts some muscle on that throwing shoulder

  18. ChanEpic Says:

4+ hours??? Not when I drive it… Gotta take the turnpike and stay off of i10/275. Amateurs.

  19. Buddy Says:

Don’t get too excited, Jackson pulled a OBJ and came for 1 whole day then left town. He got his little photo op of showing up to run routes for a little over a hour then bailed on the rest of his teammates that are there for the rest of the week. Nothing has changed when it comes to Desean.

  20. Buccernutter Says:

How in the world does Jameis look fat? LMAO

Eric is the new Tmax. Didn’t you say Lamar Jackson should be drafted and Jameis let go too? Smh this fan base….

  21. 813bucboi Says:

    CHAN

how do you take the turn pike to tally?…..lol…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  22. 813bucboi Says:

Winston looks a lot leaner…..this is good to see…..

I hope he visits dr. Andrews while he’s up there…..make sure the shoulder is good…..make sure he doesn’t over do it this offseason and wear out his shoulder before TC…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  23. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Here is what concerns me most.

N.E. threw 38 passes a game to lead the league in attempts…we were fifth with 37 per game. If you complete 60% of your passes that works out to 22-23 completions per game.

There is only one football! An RB needing touches and how many other targets…ME13…Godwin…Hump…OJ…Brate and of course DJAX. In a perfectly divided workload that means each guy gets about six targets with 3 catches.

But game time strategy and what the defenses give us totally messes with that.
Then there is the fact that ME13 and #3 have an established bond…#3 is always going to favor ME unless the defense doubles him at all times and even then sometimes #3 will force it.

Look at all the improving talent we added…OJ and Godwin deserve more targets.

It’s incumbent on every guy to make the very most of his limited opportunities.

WR’s are known as the position with the most prima donnas. Will DJAX have patience this year if he’s not getting targeted as much as he likes?

  24. Eric Says:

    sarcasm….

I was just tweaking the folks who were constantly stating he was fat when we drafted him.

  25. SOEbuc Says:

    Joe

Was Jimbo Fisher there also? I thought he was gonna work out with D-Jax, Mike, and Jameis at some point this year in Tally or at Texas A&M. Any info on that?

  26. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Eric

I thought he was fat when we drafted him. LOL But that’s actually something that gave him the opportunity to prove himself and show people his dedication.

And so when I saw him come to come without that butterball look and all rocked up I thought…this kid is serious.

  27. Pryda ...sec147 Says:

I wonder if anyone notices that the 2013 Champions is included perfectly in this photo #Greatness coming

  28. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

    Eric…
    LOL…I caught the sarcasm👍

  29. D the Bucs fan Says:

It took a year for Mike Evans and Jameis to get on the same page. They will have it down.
