Koetter Seems Geeked For Draft

March 31st, 2018

In draft mode.

Man, Dirk Koetter indirectly saved Joe Tuesday night.

Joe was just tired as can be after running all over the place at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando trying to dig up Bucs info. Didn’t help that Joe got maybe three hours of sleep before he even went to Mickey’s Kingdom.

Trip home was rough only because Joe was scared to death he was going to fall asleep on I-4. But a surprise sitdown by Koetter with Alex Marvez and Mark Dominik, co-hosts of “Late Hits” heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio, helped save Joe a good chunk of time on the road back to Tampa Bay.

While Koetter usually keeps an even keel about things, unless a reporter’s question gets under his skin, it sure seemed like he was rather excited about the first night of the draft. Yeah, the Bucs hold the No. 7 pick and the way teams are so in heat to get a quarterback, it appears a helluva non-quarterback will likely get pushed to the Bucs.

And it sounded like Koetter can’t wait to find what is under the NFL Christmas tree next month.

“There is going to be a handful of really good football players sitting there at No. 7 and we are going to get one of them,” Koetter boasted.

Koetter added he has produced player reports for Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht on some 70-80 potential draftees in the past few weeks.

Solidify the O-Line, if Nelson is there, take him. Smith-Marpet-Jensen-Nelson-Dotson, Barber can run behind that line, Winston will have the time he needs in the pocket.

  2. darin Says:

I’m thinking they are goin corner. Would have hated it before adding a bit of a pass rush, now I’m ok with it. Alot of good corners this year. Please trade back for once! Miami, buffalo and Arizona at 15 at the latest. Can find an instant starter, assuming smitty doesnt screw the pooch, and add a 2 and that 3 back. Josh Jackson and Mike Hughes are gona be good early. Of course this is assuming Barkley and Chubb are gone.

  3. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

Great to here that Koetter has produced all that “how I could use them” reports for Licht! Heck the more the merrier! Then Jason meshes all those with all the some material from his scouting staff over the past year, and hopefully makes sound decisions. Licht still has to blend the myriad of crazy instantaneous potential trades on the clock. All the information then makes Light that much more comfortable when he TRADES UP for a mister SAQUON, say-gone Barkley!!

(Now this is more like it @Joe’s…)

    Go Bucs!

  4. tmaxcon Says:

It’s most likely his last draft in the nfl thanks to the incompetent glazers… he should enjoy it.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Didn’t you say…”Coach, I hope your not thinking about drafting a corner because your coaching staff can’t develop young corners”

  6. adam from ny Says:

if we sit put and 4 qbs actually do go before we pick, it’s like we have the 3rd pick in the draft, with the assumption that we do not need a quarterback…hey bucs fans it’s sorta like we have the third pick – just remember that – if 4 qbs go before we are on the clockeroonie

  7. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Go home lil b|tch. No one likes you TMax. You’re just a clown

  8. Mort Says:

tmaxcon – serious question, why don’t you go support another team given that you clearly don’t support the Bucs? Seriously. You never say anything positive about the team at all or show any excitement for them. So, why continue to follow them? Go follow the cowboys or steelers or bengals or whatever.

  9. tmaxcon Says:

    FuNkYxMuNkEy

poor little baby all flustered again…. so mentally weak to let a poster on anonymous sports blog get to your punk arse…. hilarious…. must be cancer93 relative. and if you think for a second I give a rats arse what some low standard buc fan thinks you are sadly mistaken.

    you can’t handle the truth….

I have earned the right to be critical of his franchise led by piss poor owners…. when they earn it on the field they will receive the respect they deserve until then they are a fair game…

  10. tmaxcon Says:

    Mort

I have been going to buc games since 77 I have earned the right to be pissed off this organization led by glazers and obviously ran by the soft punk cancer93 has been an embarrassment to football and the city of Tampa for nearly 2 decades… you accept failure I do not. I am pissed while you are banking on false hope… who is the fool????

  11. feelthepewterpower Says:

Lets be geeked about the draft when we are picking 32nd 😉

  12. Tackleblockwin Says:

@adam – that would be amazing! I’m thinking three QBs go before us but how awesome would it be if 4 go! It is certainly possible. Crazier things have happened.

  13. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

You have earned absolutely nothing except being the worst poster on here. Most people on here will talk trash but still support our team. You have done exactly the opposite.

You talk about cancer93…thats exactly what you are to this site. You spit garbage constantly and never offer anything of value. You literally offer zero input except to grip and moan.

Grow up and stop acting like a 12 year old kid. You are trash and seriously need to pick another team. I’m sure the dolphins would love another whinny lil b|tch to “support” their team.

And from the other days post. I am a Noles fan til the day I die. I like the gators about as much as I like you.

Grow up lil boy and act like a man. Support your team or move on.

  14. unbelievable Says:

GMC has been a cancer for 2 decades huh? Despite playing for only 8 years.

That’s some tmaxipad math for you right there folks. Lol poor fella.

But hey rather than everyone getting offended, you can just skip over the comment when you see his name… or just view them as entertainment, like I do.

  15. unbelievable Says:

The real question is, why do posts containing another commenter’s username get moderated, but that same commenter is allowed to accuse players on our team of being a pedophile? Guarantee those comments wouldn’t be allowed if they were being said about Jameis instead… 🤔🤔🤔

  16. LostinPa Says:

He has every right to be excited. This draft’s strength line up with our main needs, CB, RB, safety and guard. As it is we could play tomorrow and be better than our last game. With the added talent from this draft we could really take the league by surprise. Even better that this is all happening under the radar of the national media. I’m with the team since the days of McKay so I won’t count the wins until they are won but this feels more like a team that has turned the corner.

  17. Mike Johnson Says:

Koetters kinda talkin like the Bucs will pick somebody at 7 and not trade down. I’m just hopin we get a great trade down offer if Chubbs gone. There is just to much value with DB’s in this draft to take one at 7..in my opinion. I do like Fitzpatrick though because he is so versitile.

  18. LostinPa Says:

    FuNkYxMuNkEy

I wouldn’t bother. If he is “fan” he was probably hating on Sapp and Brooks in 2002 too. Don’t feed the trolls.

  19. Joe Says:

    Unbelievable:

You are right. Tmax crossed the line using the p-word. Joe will not tolerate anyone accusing a Bucs player of a felony much less a child molestor. Bad enough he is (was?) a broken record on such an idiotic subject but what he did this morning was beyond crossing the line.

TMax is in the cooler for a few months as a result. If he wasn’t such a loyal commenter over the years, he’d be banned permanently for that. Hope he learns his lesson. We will find out come September.

    Thanks for pointing that out.

  20. Alan Says:

Tmax maxi pad whatever your name is please find another team to root for and take La Marcus with you

  21. LostinPa Says:

    Thank you Joe! Go Bucs!

  22. Steven007 Says:

@Joe, Long Time Coming regarding the refrigeration of Trollmax. I honestly can’t believe you’ve tolerated it for so long. Loyalty is one thing but idiocy and constant redundancy on something so ridiculous is another. I didn’t even see the comment that you’ve noted but he also mentioned dungy’s son’s suicide in a rather unforgivable manner as well. That alone should have rendered your action in my opinion. But Bravo for throwing out the trash finally.

  23. Gambelero Says:

From Buscaglia and other Buffalo people not a peep about trading with us. They’re talking 2 & 4, giving up the fort at that. Like both of this year’s first plus a second and fourth—at 4. We’re getting Barkley at 7 and that’s worst case. We’d be better off with Chubb or Nelson or trading down to a QB needy team (assuming only 2 or 3 go ahead of us). Still, we’ll be in for a great ride with Barkley for an estimated 70-75 percent of the next 4-5 years.

  24. unbelievable Says:

Right on Joe. I wasn’t even looking for him to get the axe, just thought that was curious.

I do think we will all enjoy a few days without the broken record though. I know he’s a fan deep down.

  25. Joe Says:

    007:

Taste is subjective. Accusing someone of committing a felony much less a heinous, degenerate crime is quite another.

  26. Steven007 Says:

Unbelievable, you wouldn’t know it regarding his actually being a fan. Just because he trolls here and says he’s been going to game since 77 doesn’t mean it’s true. He thinks GMC is garbage and a cancer. Clearly he’s not. He thinks Dungy was an abject failure. The guys in the Hall of Fame for Christ’s sake. He thinks nothing less than a Super Bowl is a valid victory. And yet that means there’s only one of those per year. He has a tiny ego that he reinflates every day by getting the traction and vitriol from people like you and me. Even his wannabes, and they know who they are, don’t troll as low as he does. Loyal though he may be on this little corner of the web, he has proven to be a small man and no fan.

  27. Mike in LOL Says:

Good job on tmax Joe, didn’t see the comment this morning but the manner which he mocked dungy and his family regarding their oldest son… that made my blood bool

  28. Mike in LOL Says:

    Boil*

  29. LostinPa Says:

    Gambelero
We won’t hear from Buffalo until we are on the clock and then only if one of the top QBs that Buffalo likes are still on the board. Honestly, if 4 QBs go in front of us we are a lock to get one of the top 3 players in the draft, any of whom fill a need. If not we trade back and still get James, Ward or Fitzpatrick. It wouldn’t be the worst thing to take any of them at #7 but I would prefer picks in that situation. It also doesn’t have to be Buffalo. No one saw the Chiefs moving up that agressively last year. Miami, Arizona, LA Chargers are all possible. Hell Baltimore, Pittsburgh Jacksonville and New England could be in play if the right QB falls to #7.

  30. Defense Rules Says:

Picking as high as the Bucs historically do (often in the Top 50 for the 1st 2 Rnds), there’s NO WAY any GM should ever miss on the 1st Rnd pick or even on the 2nd Rnd pick IMO. once you get beyond the 1st 50 or so players, there’s a lot of ‘luck’ involved in finding starters and/or key rotational players it seems.

  31. TampaTown Says:

The problem with tmax is that he had to keep pushing the boundaries further and further because no one was paying attention to him anymore. Thanks to the Joe’s for stepping in and putting a stop to it.

  32. Steven007 Says:

Mike, in a sea of classless comments that’s probably the most classless one he’s made. He’s just another internet coward who gets his Joy out of crapping on his supposed favorite team at every opportunity. Good riddance. I don’t look forward to seeing him again in September. But I’ll beat her down then like I have in the past if need be.

  33. TonyC Says:

James at 7 and Michel in the 2nd round would suit me.

  34. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Hahaha trollmax banned? What a beautiful day!

  35. StPeteBucsFan Says:

So much luck involved and it all starts with opportunity. Then the right choice.
    Good health for the player.

We’re off to a good start though. It’s just pure luck that the number of teams who want a QB are going to be very tempted by a promising class of QB’s.

Looks like at least three QB’s will go before us and if four go..then we get at least one of the big three…if only three QB’s go as folks point out it increases the value of our 7th pick for any team focused on that 4th QB and improves the trade down value.

    So far so good.

I think Koetter might also be jacked because of what happened to his Dline before the draft even starts. Now Bradley Chubb becomes simply desirable not desperately needed. Add our new center and Koetter should be looking forward to everything this year! It’s much better to head into a draft without so much desperation. We’re close to BPA status again.

We’ll find a CB and RB…I just believe if Licht can produce two guys who can break the starting lineup as rookies…we’re going to be good this year.

  36. LostinPa Says:

    StPete
Good to be be going into a draft where we “only” need two starters to be better than last year. Hopefully we get more but it’s a great spot to be.

  37. ClwJB Says:

Take the sure 10 year starter with All Pro potential, no matter the position – except QB…unless someone offers a short drop back for a 2nd and 3rd this year

It would be hard to pass up the volume of picks

  38. Jeffbuc Says:

Ding dong the witch is dead. Finally tmax is gone thank you joe. It should have been done about the thousand article he said cancer93 though. But better late then never. Now he can go yell at the neighbor kids. In the voice of Clint Eastwood “get off my lawn”

  39. Jeffbuc Says:

I really hope we can trade back with the dolphins or bills and pick up a 2nd or 3rd and draft Denzel Ward. He would be a great addition to the defense. Then a runninback in two. And whatever defensive lineman falls to the third. I saw a guy last night on nfl network Nathan Shepard projected in the 4th he looked like a beats. And they highlighted a corner Perry Nicholson from Tulane he was a ball hawk. Wouldn’t mind either of them late. Shepard had a really good get off kind of looked like Brian price before the hamstring injuries. Watched some tape on Minkah Fitzpatrick he plays like the honey badger. But he really doesn’t have a position more of a tweener. Seems more like a luxury pick for a team later in draft. I feel like he will be the biggest fall of the draft. This years oj Howard.

  40. Pickgrin Says:

    Joe says:
“TMax is in the cooler for a few months”

    Bout Time

    “Tmax crossed the line”

Ya think? Yea – like over a year ago. Can’t believe you guys ever let it go this long. You can’t give commentors free reign to troll constantly with the obvious intent of annoying other posters just for the fun of it. You got way too much of it going on here. tmax was /is the worst but you’ve got quite a few others who play a very similar small minded game.

Its long past due IMO to take a “no a$$hole posters” in the comments section stance here on JBF. Guarantee you most all of your readers and posters would be very happy to see you “clean up” the blatant trolling that goes on around here. Hand pick some moderators and get it largely off your busy plates is my unsolicited advice.

  41. Buccfan37 Says:

This is how tptb eliminate free speech.

  42. firethecannons Says:

    Thanks Joe,
Putting Tmax on timeout is really appreciated, way too negative on every post. Maybe Tmax can get a life now, maybe get a different team, at least get some help.

Love to see us get Chubb, Barkley or Q. Nelson or trade back. No defensive back should be taken in top 10 by Bucs as we are not able to develop them–case in point is Ryan Smith and Hargreaves.

  43. Jjones Says:

I’m all for free speech but tmax crossed a clear line with his consistent hate. Kudos to you Joe for putting him in timeout.
