Jameis, Bucs Walking Into Trap?

November 2nd, 2017

Danger.

It is starting to sound ugly.

Field Yates of BSPN shared interesting information that does not bode well for the Bucs on Sunday in New Orleans, specifically, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. In the past five games, the Saints have allowed opposing quarterbacks to throw for over 160 yards once. That was 281 to Matthew Stafford three weeks ago.

That’s an incredible run of pass defense, especially considering the Saints won all those games and teams were playing catch-up.

On the flip side, in the past four games, only once has Jameis thrown for more than one touchdown; that was his three-touchdown performance at Buffalo.

Given the stingy defense of the Saints, and Jameis’ bum shoulder, this doesn’t sound like a good matchup at all.

    You know what’s ugly Joe?

    It is:

Jameis overthrowing receivers every single game
Jameis forcing balls into spots he shouldn’t be (interceptions)
    Jameis bad decision making
Jameis not connecting on deep balls

I love kid’s enthusiasm and heart but his play is leaving something to be less desired.

  2. The Buc Realist Says:

Joe, you have to stop getting stats and info from BSPN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vs Saints last 4 weeks!!!!!!!

    Mitch Trubisky 164 yards
    Brett Hundley 87 yards
    Mathew Stafford 312 yards
    Jay Cutler 164 yards
    Cam Newton 167 yards

That is only 1 Qb under 160 yards???????? or did they take an average subtracting Stafford??????????

And this is a division game, which usual does not follow the trends of the last few weeks play!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The question should be, Is this a trap for NO!!!!!! If they do not beat the lowly Bucs, then you look at the QB’s they have beat, which is not murders row, then they will be questioned as pretenders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. BoJim Says:

Whole season turned into a fricking trap. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  4. Conte Piscateli Says:

Look at that list of “quarterbacks”. I use that term very loosely. Stafford is the only legitimate one on the list. Heck out putrid defense looked good against Cam, and the Bears too. That was what Hundleys first start, and Gase has called his offense the wrist in the league. This is why just looking at numbers is dumb.

  5. JWBUCS Says:

My greatest disappointment is the Bucs appear to have created their own Trap!

  6. Dewey Selmon Says:

I think the Saints are the ones walking into a trap. Bucs 35 Saints 24

  7. Bob in Valrico Says:

We need new wrinkles on offense,New Orleans seemed to know our plays
in our last meeting. Not only were they in the backfield harassing Jameis but they broke up running plays at the handoff. Their defense is even better this year.
We better slowdown Drew Breeze, because New Orleans with a defense is a scary thing.

  8. mike n Says:

We have a mediocre D. The D needs the O to move the chains, control the clock, and score. If the O doesn’t do that then the saints will blow us out big time. Come on Jameis and co, lets not wait till half to start playing.

  9. darin Says:

I wish mike smith would take a look at the saints defense (cant believe i said that). They dont have pass rushers either. So they made a decision after the first game to blitz blitz blitz more. It sure seems to be working. Beats the alternative of sitting back n watching every qb turn into joe montana, as they did for the last 3 years. This bucs D is about as bad as the saints d was last few years. Pathetic. It wont be windy this week, so please send em smitty. Otherwise “trap” is an understatement. I expect the bucs to put up some points, the Oline is playing well in pass protection. Lets not sit back n watch boo drees pile em up.

  10. Q Says:

What trap Joe? The bucs suck right now…we fell in a trap the past 4 weeks …. it’s a wrap it’s over its looking toward the 18 season… I don’t care what the did last year …this team stinks right now…there is no trap game

  11. Nutterbuccer Says:

This team is pathetic, this was suppose to be the year. And once again we are all let down. Nicl folk should of been cut after the gianta game, its been 10 years and we cant get a giu who knows hownto sack the qb.we banled on an old running back. When does it stoo, when can the glazers find someone competent enough to win. Free agents like tamla, we get pkenty. Its not like we are the browns that nobody wanta to go to.

  12. doolnutts Says:

TheBucsAnthem —At least I am not the only one saying this… Sometimes I am not sure people on here are watching the same game. He’ll overthrow Desean on a possible 60 yard td or miss a wide open Doug Martin on 3rd and short and people have the pills to say it was the play call LOL.

I love Winston, and Koetter is not free from blame but Winston MUST improve his accuracy to be considered elite. 300 yard games are cute but we need wins not nice stats. Can’t win missing critical throws.

  13. DoNUTS Says:

Tough sledding being a Bucs fan at moment. #3 is not playing well at all. His mechanics and foot work are back to FSU days. DL looks like they couldn’t beat high school 5A kids on a Friday nite with their pressure scheme. Fans talking draft at mid season. Glazers please sell team to Vinik like owner…who cares about the product. I just dont see it on Sundays but hey Man U is always in the hunt. These problems start at the top of tree (owners).

  14. Q Says:

The owners are NOT to blame…your drinking too much vodka…glazers have put alot of money into this team to WIN…the personnel have not made that happen…so talk what you know before you blame the owners they are NOT the problem

  15. wewantgruden Says:

Jamesis ranked 15 out of 32 teams. That would support my mediocre claims. He will do his usual rack up yards/stats late in the game but only after his multiple turnovers that put the Bucs behind. He is not intelligent enough to run an NFL offense and the pressure in New Orleans will prove out his true lack of brain power. Preacher bot needs to sit this week.

  16. BigEl Says:

Maybe we can trade the DL, for Schiano’s OSU DL. Just sayin.

  17. Mike Johnson Says:

Correction..Bucs are not walking into a trap this Sunday in New Orleans. They are proudly walking into an A.. Whipping!!!

  18. Defense Rules Says:

@JWBUCS … “My greatest disappointment is the Bucs appear to have created their own Trap!” We have a winner. Defense did ‘good enough to win’ in 4 games: Chicago (7 pts), Giants (23 pts), Pats (19 pts) & Panthers (17 pts) … yet we only won 2 of those games. Offense did ‘good enough to win’ in 4 games: Chicago (29 pts), Giants (25 pts), Cards (33 pts) & Bills (27 pts) … unfortunately only 2 of those games were the same as ones where the defense played respectably. Thus 2-5. When offense & defense both got it together at the same time, we win. When 1 side falters, we lose. This is like a “Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde’ movie … but where they keep switching roles.

I’ll say it again: Some of these guys ‘ain’t right’. Show up in 1 game but not in others. An 11-cylinder engine (?) with only 8-cylinders working won’t win many races. And that’s what it seems to be game after game. Forget playoffs; I’d just like to see them have a chance to break even (8-8) right now. Going 6-3 the rest of the way doesn’t look all that promising at this point against our remaining schedule.

  19. 813bucboi Says:

    @REALIST….TRAP GAME?!?….LOL….

sean payton and brees will come out sharp, focus, and ready to put up 50 on the bucs….the saints will be well prepared….

the question should be, will dirk have the bucs unprepared and “flat” like we’ve seen multiple times this year….GO BUCS!!!!

  20. ClodHopper Says:

What the over/under on Jameis’ turnovers? I’d say 3

  21. Defense Rules Says:

BTW, we’ve played 28 qtrs of football. Our defense has accounted for 14 pts. Fitz has accounted for 25 pts … in 2 qtrs. Jameis has accounted for 109 pts … in 26 qtrs. In our 5 losses, we’ve scored 16 pts TOTAL in the 1st half. In our 2 wins, we’ve scored 42 pts TOTAL in the 1st half. Jameis was at the helm in the 1st half in all 7 games. 21 pts in the 1st half (average) in 2 wins … 3 pts in the 1st half (average) in the 5 losses. Hmmm, coincidence? I think not.

  22. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Prepare for an a$$ whooping on Sunday. Hide your wife, kids and dogs. And liver.

  23. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Saints are an overrated team based on the competition lately but the bucs were paper tigers and HAVE NEVER slowed down drew brees so, unless the bucs can score 28 they aint beating the saints, and this should be a great barometer of VH3 as to if he actually has improved his game or its been the crappy competition, but by 2:30 sunday we will know whats up

    DILLY DILLY!!!

  24. Buc1987 Says:

    Q Says:

“The owners are NOT to blame…your drinking too much vodka…glazers have put alot of money into this team to WIN…the personnel have not made that happen…so talk what you know before you blame the owners they are NOT the problem”

They’ve BEEN putting a lot of money into the team for the past 10 years. Hired different coach after different coach. Fielded different roster after different roster. They do all the hiring of these GM’s and coaches. At what point does it become their fault?

  25. FortMyersDave Says:

Defense rules: good start equals a good chance at W…. Not rocket science, so why doesn’t Koetter go off the reservatation with no huddle or something early that the Saints would not expect? yeah the trolls would say turnover and TD but is not that what Mike Smiths D does more than half the time and almost all the time on the road and still keeps TOP in Tampa’s favor? t
Try something and get a cheap 7, it may do wonders or at least the Bucs won’t be shut out at half time…

  26. BigHogHaynes Says:

This is not a Trap, no no, this is what we were set up for, back-stabbing LOVIE, then turning the team over to a guy with no Head-Coaching experience, that was the Trap! For those of you who couldn’t stomach LOVIE as the Head-Coach here, I’m selling Tums at the end of the game Sunday! TAKE A KNEE ….KEEP AMERICA FREE!

  27. MadMax Says:

Shouldve traded him and ME13, along with djax while we had the chance and while they still had some decent trade value…..oh well.

Guess we’ll see more multi million $$ contracts signed to jit players who wont get it done when we couldve moved on…smdh.

  28. MadMax Says:

Yeah hog, blame the flag and the anthem….more smdh.

  29. Mike Johnson Says:

    BigHogHaynes..You are..spot on my man!!!

  30. Buc1987 Says:

Mike and Big Hog seem to BOTH think WE have the power to hire and fire the coaches….

    NEWSFLASH : we don’t.

  31. BucEmUp Says:

Now consider the saints had one of the worst defenses under rob ryan and now are performing very well. Does that suggest they could have been poorly coached?

Bucs D is about to get destroyed. I predict the saint control about 38 to 40 minutes out of 60 time of possession.

  32. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

The taking a kneel thing has lost the NFL a major advertiser in addition to its going to lose MNF money which will in turn mean players will be losing money in the long run….i guess that is what happens when you follow a america hating isis loving colin kapernick who is an absolute ignorant man

  33. Lord Cornelius Says:

Joe you’re missing the fact that those are the worst offenses in the league outside of Detroit. Also a bump to 813 because this just made his argument from the other day look even more insane:

“2016-2017 Saints – add a few players on defense in an offseason; after having added 9 premium pick’d players in total over 4 prior drafts going into the season. Improve from borderline worst in the league to solid and it’s all COACHING according to 813.

2015-2016 Bucs – add a few players on defense; but only have added 4 in total premium picks over last 4 drafts. Improve from borderline worst in the league to solid and it’s all TALENT according to 813.

Seriously just re-read the above to yourself a few times… and break down how the f*ck that makes any sense using real logic and facts.”

ALSO – this even looks worse upon more review. The Saints defense has played some of the worst scoring offenses in the NFL recently:

    Chicago – 28th
Packers – 31st (13.5 PPG with Hundley so far)

Detroit* – 9th (and what do you know – they gave up 38 points in a shoot out that game lol)

    Miami – 32nd

The Bucs in the 2nd half of 2016 faced mostly top 10 scoring offenses; including top 3 offenses 3 times in the Saints x2 and Cowboys. Chiefs / Seahawks / Chargers all decent offenses too.

Seriously can anyone explain any of this lol… I refuse to think an entire stretch of 5 games against teams that were all solid offenses / that all NEEDED to win (i.e. not garbage stats /games/ all meaningful games) was some fluke.

The only thing that makes sense to me for this dropoff in defense is:
1- the deterioration of this D-line’s effectiveness due to age catching up finally to guys like Ayers/McDonald/maybe even McCoy and Chris Baker being a big wiff of a FA; and losing Spence – our best pass rusher – to injury.
2 – Kwon alexander / lavonte david missing significant time – not allowing us to run the defense the way it was envisioned or hte way we ran it last year
3 – other injuries to CBs/Ss making it hard to have any continuity

That’s all I’ve got at this point. The coaches somehow got mostly these same dudes playing well last year. 2-5 is unacceptable though regardless of above; and that falls on the coaches / leaders in the locker room / etc. Top to bottom a failure this year.

  34. Lord Cornelius Says:

My post above can also be addressed to BubEmUP.

Bro they’ve been playing garbage offenses. The last good offense they played they gave up 38 points lol.

  35. Lord Cornelius Says:

I said 5 but it was technically an 8 game stretch where were were a top 5 defense in terms of average points given up. How the hell could you call that a fluke?

I thought we had something man lol.

  36. crazy Says:

Building an offensive game plan around winning with explosive plays is not a winning strategy. Move the chains consistently and the explosive opportunities will come. This is just Lovie’s unsuccessful takeaway strategy on offense. Both get it backwards. More patience and better execution will keep Brees off the field and give the team a chance to win. Leaning on a QB with a bum shoulder and bad aim to win every series is not a winning strategy.

  37. Kobe Faker Says:

    fanbase/corporate advertisement= revenue

If Licht/koetter is still here for 2018…it will be a ghost town in 1 Buc Place

We were picked as superbowl host on 2021.

The NFL thought and still demand a successful winning team heading toward 2021

    “No Problemuendo”

    Grudog

  38. DoNUTS Says:

I said blame starts with the Glazers; I didnt say it ended there. I am like everyone else; not exactly sure what is wrong anymore; its a new way to lose every week. Is it Koetter or Smith?. As pointed out by 87, at what point does ownership take responsibility for a consistently poor product on the field? This has been going on for some time now. When they/Glazers dont spend to near the cap to get the C Campbells of the world – who will have double digit sacks again this year – then who is really to blame? The DEF pressure problem bothers me because they banked on guys who were unproven or unreliable for 2 years in a row with no real change. They had a real chance to get a proven play maker and chose Baker is a good example of FA misfires. The Man U roster salary total for last year was $300 Million or double the Bucs. As Mr. Brooks says, if they want to keep you they (owners) will find a way.

I am hopeful this franchise will turn it around. Go Bucs.

  39. ClodHopper Says:

I’m against firing Koetter but if we fired him and hired Hue Jackson, you’d get no complaints from me. Look has whole career not just with the team that don’t know how to send an email.

I know Big Hog would approve since Hue had the right hue.

  40. Defense Rules Says:

Good stuff Lord C. Agree totally with your #s 1, 2 & 3 but might add a 4th: All 5 of the teams that we beat in our winning string had problems of their own AT THAT TIME. Bucs did a good job of capitalizing on those problems (injuries, etc). And as an aside, our offense put up 36 pts against the Bears, but in the 4 games after that only put up 77 total (19 pts/game average). For that matter, in the remaining 3 games (2 of them losses), our offense only put up 61 pts (20 pts/game average). Bucs offense has truly been hot and cold … but mostly ‘meh’. When it’s hot, we almost always win. When it’s average or cold, we only win IF the defense steps up big. And in most of those games this season & last season, they’ve largely stepped up when the other team has been having ‘issues’. Like the Bears in Game 1? Or the Giants in Game 3?

  41. Kobe Faker Says:

    LC…disgree

    the new NFL Normal Model

YOU MUST HIT IN THE DRAFT…eom

Saints have been hitting in the draft last few years and the young(cheap) players are making plays and a difference. 2017, 4 rookies are homeruns. Rookies produce and much is demanded on them (FREEOJSTOCKER)

why is KC so good? last 2 drafts and 2 difference making rookies in tyreek hill and k hunt

We are still suffering from the mishap of our 2016 draft.

YOU CANT MISS IN THE DRAFT

  42. derrickbrooksforGM Says:

Joe you act like they want to win, they are riding this out like the fans waiting for Koetter the get fired. Praying JW and everyone can stay healthy for 9 more games. This season seems like it will never end.

  43. denjoe Says:

We will gain at least 300 yards passing on them, unfortunately it will come from 150 completions on 300 attempts. lol

But seriously your QB is not 100% so you made him throw 40 times out of 60 plays? I like Dirk but this year he is doing some Dumb Sh!t. The stupid lateral play was embarrassing the one time you have to pass, and he does that?
When the coaches say they need to do better, they are right! I would work on the running game to help my hurt Qb.

  44. Lord Cornelius Says:

Defense Rules – good points. IMO the best offensive performance we had was the Bills though. That was a really good defense that didn’t give us anything easy at all. 400 passing yards almost. That’s why that loss hurts probably the most out of any the last 2+ years for me. That was OUR win man. That was our f*cking game to win.

Kobe I can agree with that as well. The Saints nailed their drafts – which was my point to 813 – it’s not just coaching at all lol.

It’s a combo of an easier schedule in terms of teams they’ve faced + adding guys like Rankins/Lattimore/Marcus Williams/Anzalone/Bell in just the last 2 years. And beyond that they nailed Kamara/Michael Thomas.

They’ve nailed a couple drafts. If Spawn never got hurt I think we’d feel a bit better about 2016. Or if Light took anyone other than Aguayo. Saints dominated us that class

  45. AlteredEgo Says:

That trap was sprung in the 2015 NFL draft

  46. Bob in Valrico Says:

Read something on pewter report,we have run a lot of Shotgun plays on third down with not
too good results by Trevor S. His take is we don’t run from shotgun. We also don’t run with Sims in on third down. So we are too predictable. I think its worth a try to let Sims surprise with a run. Lets face our third down conversions have been pitiful this year.
My take is that Shotgun is important part of hurry up, so If we aren’t better at shotgun hurry up will fail.
Now you have to identify Jameis strengths. His most effective area is between the hashmarks in the 10-25 yard range .Funnel the wide receiver routes toward the middle especially from the left side.Jameis has thrown some pretty good outs on the right side and this a mike Evans strength. Avoid outs on left like the plague,I dont see this as a strength yet. Jameis’s ball placement has not been good. Now as far as short crossing routes ( 5 yards or less I believe
Jameis struggles with accurracy in this area ,quite possibly because his longer throwing motion makes it harder to get the ball out fast enough. Now in or near the redzone up to 30 yards I think Jameis is very good on fades and 50-50 on
either side of endzone..Endzone,thats the ticket we need to get there early
and often to compete with New Orleans.

  47. LakeLand Says:

A good pass defense just didn’t fall to the Saints.
They did a good job of drafting secondary players
    Over the past 3 drafts

    Pick No. 78 (from Miami)
    DB P.J. Williams, Florida State

Round 2, pick 61: Vonn Bell, S, Ohio State

Round 1, No. 11 overall: Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State

Round 2, No. 42: Marcus Williams, S, Utah

  48. DB55 Says:

On the flip side, in the past four games, only once has Jameis thrown for more than one touchdown; that was his three-touchdown performance at Buffalo.

but go ahead and make up excuses for dirk…..and your acting like the bucs didn’t address some of their issues on defense….we added veteran players with experience in smitty’s system….

you can talk in circles and spin anything the way you like….but the truth is dirk is failing….he is underachieving and he’s sitting on a boiling hot seat….

  53. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Expect a loss this week. That way, if wrong, it will feel much better, and if we loss…well, it was expected.

  54. BigMacAttack Says:

If Jameis is hurt, play Fitz. He did well the last time he played and was better than Jameis. If Koetter is letting him play injured, he’s a fool. The Saints will be tough at home. The Bucs all need to play as if their jobs are on the line

  55. Conte Piscateli Says:

    DoNuts

Did you seriously compare the Bucs to Man U? The only thing in common is ownership. Man U is the class of soccer, think of the Cowboys, Yankees, and Canadians we all related. Man U would be their Daddy. That club can have any player or coach they like because people dream of being at Man U. Honestly at this point being the owner of Man U is the easiest gig in sports, and the Glazer’s have managed to stay them down as well. They missed out on champions league and haven’t been relevant in EPL recently either. So the owners can’t get it right with Man U and we expect them to sign all the great talent in coaching and players to come to Tampa? The town Bo Jackson said don’t day me to, she place Chip Kelly said no to, bill parcels nope. All people know is the Bucs are the place you go to disappear for a while and collect without state income tax.

  56. LakeLand Says:

The Saints also has 16 sacks during their 5 game winning streak. They subtract the sack yardage from the total passing yardage. That’s why the QBs ( Other than Stafford) had less than 160 yards passing.

  57. LakeLand Says:

Man U is back in Champions League play after winning the Europa last season. Matter of fact, they are unbeaten in Champion League play this season. They are about to advance to the knockout stage. And they are 2nd to Manchester City in the EPL.

  58. Negative Jeff Says:

Saints 42 -Bucs 17. All 17 PTS come in the 4th Qt when JW is out and Fitz is in against a prevent D. Folks take the Saints and the Points, this is a sure thing.
