Fan Interference was the only thing approaching entertaining sports talk radio in the Tampa market. I’ve bemoaned the lack of quality coverage for a while, but I agree with your take here. There’s plenty to be found that’s higher quality and more narrowly focused on what I care about (the Bucs) in the form of sites like JBF and podcasts. Granted, you don’t get the fun shenanigans that you guys had with draft day Tuesday or any of the other fillers that were entertaining, but it is a lot nicer to be able to go to sources where the people obviously actually care about what they’re covering and are knowledgeable.

Perhaps, as listenership of the podcast grows and the sponsors continue to come in, some of that old magic can be recreated by getting the band back together with Jim and Drake in this format. I can’t speak for everyone, but I know I’d really enjoy it.

  2. JMN Says:

I always thought Rick Stroud was great but was never a fan of Tom Jones, he was kind of annoying and I never thought he had what it took to be a radio personality. With that being said, I still did listen to their show every morning on my way to work cause they covered local sports. Really disappointing move by 620 WDAE.

So much for uncensored & freedom of speech. Thanks for removing my post Joe., what a joke!
Not sure what you’re talking about, but if it contained curse words, links, unsubstantiated statements presented as facts about celebrities, or ripped Steve Duemig, then it was deleted. Feel free to try and post again. Your comment is not in Joe’s trash bin, so it’s likely a computer glitch …And free speech has nothing to do with Joe owning this web space and determining what can be written here. After all, Joe is responsible for every word here, even those of commenters. Free speech is about you being able to say what you want in public and in your home. This isn’t public or your home.–Joe

I was thrilled when WDAE replaced Rome/Mohr with a local show at noon. It’s a shame we’re down to just three Tampa segments from 9am – 6pm.

Anyone know if the Stroud-Jones ratings were bad or declining? I’m guessing a syndicated show is cheaper to put on the air.

  5. Tampa Tony Says:

When two of your franchises (baseball and football) outside of a few seasons can’t sustain any type of success it kills the fan bases and the demand for your product. The decline in demand for Tampa sports is the fault of the franchises for their continued ineptitude

I hope the Bucs turn it around and get on the right track but at 1-3 it’s just more of the same sadly

Tom Jones was/is an idiot back when he came on board the ST. PETE TIMES. I ignored him, and I do now. Rick Stroud writes like he’s got a brain. There was a terrific young sports guy (AA) who covered the Bucs a few years ago. He got plucked up by the bigger outfits. 🙁 Hope Bucs can win tonight. They’re playing a division foe. 1-0 in that department. No reason why they can’t be 2-0. GO TAMPA BAY!!
