Mike James Released

September 7th, 2016
Waived per NFL.com.

Waived.

Mike James is no longer with the Bucs.

That is the word from Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com.

This is a stunner. No word on any corresponding move by team.

It’s an emotional day for Joe. James was a favorite of Joe’s.

Shocker! We shouldn’t be carrying 5 TEs…but now only 2 RBs? I know we will sign one of the RBs out there, but still not sure about whey Myers is on the roster.

  2. Cobraboy Says:

    WTF?

He didn’t play the last PS game did he?

    I hadn’t heard he’s hurt.

Does this grease the skids for Quizz Rodgers?

  3. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    NJ Buc

Joe had a thread yesterday where Koetter pointed out that some players are kept for their versatility…hence the 5TE’s because of special teams and the ability for some of them to play FB.

  4. LifeOfABucFan Says:

This one hit me over the head…wtf happened????

  5. BigPoppaBuc Says:

He’ll land somewhere soon. A solid ball carrier. Best of luck Mike. You came back from a gruesome ankle injury, but are the victim of scheme change. Maybe the Seahawks, who you already showed your skills can pick you up.

  6. iamkingsu Says:

Y is Verner back in the starting lineup?

  7. Hawaiian Buc Says:

One would think they have a replacement in mind, and I doubt it’s Barber. Logical replacement would be Jacquizz Rodgers.

  8. morgan1672 Says:

Yeah its Jacquizz Rodgers, he is visiting today and played for Dirk in Atlanta. It makes sense

  9. Magicbuc Says:

Hello Jacquizz Rodgers…don’t fumble your first kick off return!!!

  10. Canabuc Says:

or Antone smith who can also return kicks

  11. rrsrq Says:

Brandon Myers over Mike James, don’t get that. Even for special teams, how many receptions does he have in his Bucanneer history. You will not see Myers, Stocker or Cross take a handoff or the threat of a hand off on a FB/HB dive or the threat of a screen or outlet down the field.

  12. celly Says:

    @rrsrq…

You did read that he was waived with the injury designation, right?

So why would they cut a healthy player for an unhealthy one???

  13. BigHogHaynes Says:

    Bad move!

  14. unbelievable Says:

So we’re either signing Rodgers, or promoting Peyton Barber?

    I really liked James…

  15. Bucfan76 Says:

We don’t need 5 TEs….I don’t care how versatile they are…..they can run the concessions, clean the locker room, play DE, return punts….I don’t care, we don’t need 5.

  16. Bucfan76 Says:

Speaking for Pablo (I’ll do my best)

“Pablo loved Mike Hames…..but Pablo could get to love Hacquizz too. Pablo doesn’t like being in the cooler with TBBF……TBBF smokes expensive cigars and drinks single malt like most rich Republicans. Pablo is not a Republican, Pablo is an Independent.”

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Jacquizz Rodgers would suck.

And he doesn’t return kicks. Come on people, do research. Even the Commish is off on this one!

Bring back Barber. He’s at least more reliable!

  18. K2 Says:

Because we don’t have a fullback 5 TEs is not really that big of a deal. So, I will trust the coaches to know more about what the Bucs need to be successful.

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I look at Trump supporters and wonder how so many people could be so blind to the obvious.

I look at Cecil Shorts, Jacquizz Rodgers and others and think the same thing.

  20. DB55 Says:

So what’s the injury? I’m really learning a lot this offseason about transactions bc this ish don’t make no sense to me. Boldin, Sweezy, Francis, LaQuan Treadwell, but I digress.

  21. JGhoti86 Says:

    @ Bucfan76

IF we had 4 te’s and 1 fb on our roster, would you be ok with that (you know like we have had many years in the past and last year with J Lane and the years before with E. Lorig and then before with Alstott)?!? Its the same damn concept man, get a grip and use your brain

When we go fullback sets or use a fullback, Stocker and Cross do that, except they provide versatility by being able to do both. If the team put the letters “fb” next to Stocker or Cross’ name instead of “te” nobody would be saying anything cause it would LOOK more normal…guess what though…its the freaking same. Jeez, some people!

Pardon me for having an opinion……I don’t think we need a FB either….many teams don’t. So, to answer your question, NO putting a FB beside one of their names doesn’t work for me either. I would actually prefer only 2 QBs and an additional short yardage RB who could serve as a lead blocker. So….I would like 4 TEs and 4 RBs.

  23. LakeLandBuc Says:

I’m for signing Antone Smith over Jacquizz Rodgers, they probably won’t sign either of them until after Sunday. When will they promote Jeremy Butler to the active roster? I rather have him than Cecil Shorts (a career 51% catch ratio)isn’t something to brag on. I hope Shorts can get it up around the 62% ratio this season

  24. JGhoti86 Says:

….and also, I said this and thought this on my own before I saw Todd Monken’s presser today…listen to the very last question and answer

another thought and some info for ya. Did you see how many rb’s BB kept on the Patriots active roster? Go take a gander why dontcha! You think they will dress up all of them on game day?? They like 2 te sets as much as we do…go tell BB he doesn’t make sense or know what he’s doing please…if you ever get the chance!

I swear, Peyton Barber is gonna be a stud RB in the NFL someday.

    Bring him back!

    Insert playful sarcasm 🙂

  28. JGhoti86 Says:

sorry for multiple post there guys and gals. Computer kinda freaked out on me there, haha. Or vice-versa

  29. JGhoti86 Says:

we do have 4 rbs (pre Mike James release), we actually have 5 currently. 3 on active and 2 on ps. No one dresses more than 3 rbs on game day mostly anyways, so its all the same really. Also yes a lot of teams don’t use “fbs”, but a lot of teams do use a person to play fb in power sets/formations and at other times. Now we know Coach Koetter likes the fb position, and made P. Dimarco into a pro bowl caliber one in his system. We also know Koetter loves 2 te sets. So if you don’t like that then you don’t like Koetter or his offense…and seeing as how we had a top 5 one last year in his first year as oc and 1st year with team with a rookie 1st year qb and the best offense in Bucs history…well then, that’s our own issues sir!

  30. Dave Pear Says:

    @Bucfan76,

You”re no TBBF but I guess you will have to do until he gets paroled.

  31. Bucfan76 Says:

My point is that you couldn’t ask any of our TEs to perform like….let’s say Ernest Graham……running, blocking, receiving.
Last year we didn’t use the FB to make plays…..only a combination passing & running of 3 times all year.
I would like to see us have a FB/RB who is used more often. And, I don’t believe we have such a person in the 5 TEs.
And, it is not exactly the same to have PS backups as having them a part of the 53 and no you wouldn’t dress all 4 rbs.
The problem with bringing players off the PS is that you have to drop an active player when you do. You could put that player, if eligible on the PS….but might lose him permanently.

    Buc. Bonzai,
I read your post and I wonder how you could be so blind and stupid, do you really think your gal Hillary is not going to keep lying to your ugly face long after she is residing in the big house?

  33. Bucfan76 Says:

    @ Dave Pear

I’m sure TBBF would appreciate the compliment.

  34. JGhoti86 Says:

    @ bucfan76

    ok

    good luck this season bud!

    Thanks,

We can agree to disagree….we all want the same thing, a winning team and there are many ways to get there.
I really, really would like to see us have a bruiser/big RB….someone like Tolbert, but I guess that’s not in the cards.

  36. Brian Says:

They havent signed Rogers and are expected to bring up Barber for this Sunday. They giy was waived injured. You people are so frigging reactionary its ridiculous.

  37. JGhoti86 Says:

I agree with ya on that, even a versatile p dimarco would be nice, but I was just saying what coach monkey repeated on the last answer of his pressed today for those saying why 5 te’s, it’s more 5te’s/1 or 2 capable (hopefully)

But as we all will have to do, wait and see.

I do like our team a whole lot better than last year though fo’ sho’. And not everything can be fixed in a day, but our 2 weakest positions last year look like new strengths heading into this year…CB and dline/pass rush. But as always even those people who complained about that, will inevitable find something else to complain about and be couch gm’s!

I personally would like to see our safeties upgraded or Ryan Smith to ball out.

  38. JGhoti86 Says:

…we did lead the preseason in sacks 16 (13 players accounted for at least a 1/2 sack or more) and our completion percentage against was 49.6% as compared to 70% last year!

  39. BucInJax Says:

Thanks Bucfan76. I really have needed a Pablo fix.

  40. pete Says:

    Sad day!
    I like this young man.
But, I am a fan and cannot wait to see who the next RB 3 will be!

  41. Cobraboy Says:

I’d not be surprised of there are a bunch of veteran signings on Monday, including Rodgers. That’s when teams can sign them and not be responsible for their entire salary if things don’t work out.

  42. rrsrq Says:

Speaking for Pablo (I’ll do my best)

“Pablo could not ever fit his elongated arc into one of those suitcases. That’s all Pablo needs is to have more of an arc….Pablo’s table dancing requires artful arc dancing and the suitcase would “crimp” Pablo, if you know what Pablo means.

  47. Tomcin Says:

If he hasn’t been picked up yet I would bring back Luke Rhodes, since they don’t list a backup to Alexander on the depth chart.

  48. SanFrancisco Joe Says:

Good luck Mike. You’ll get another chance somewhere to show your talent. Thank you for the memories:

Bitter already? Trump hasn’t even been humiliated in the debates yet. After he vanishes, his supporters will still be here. That’s a scary thought.
