Some Things Never Change

September 15th, 2015

lovie 1110b

There’s a damning report on Lovie Smith’s defense from one of the more respected NFL analysts going. And that would be Mike Tanier of FootballOutsiders.com.

Joe has met (and had beers with) Tanier a few times, and though Tanier, a former math teacher (a cursed profession of masochists if there ever was one), decided to go the stat geek route, what Joe loves about Tanier is his common-sense approach with stats.

Tanier explains them so you don’t need a calculator.

Every week, Tanier types a report card on every NFL team and, as one can guess, Tanier gave an “F” grade to the Bucs, the only such failing grade the former math teacher handed out after Week One.

In his report, Tanier backs up what Titans wide receiver Kendall Wright said. He notes that any decent quarterback with accuracy can pick apart a Lovie defense because he hasn’t changed his pass defense one iota for years.

There are soft spots in the Buccaneers coverage zones that always appear to be wide-open, and they are in the same places each week and have been in the same places with Lovie Smith teams since the Bears lost the Super Bowl almost a decade ago, and it’s getting to the point where even rookie quarterbacks making their first starts can find them. Also, the run defense only stiffened when the Titans started munching clock.

That may be the worst indictment of Lovie — other than having a team so ill-prepared as the Bucs were Sunday — that a guy hasn’t changed his defense in nearly 10 years.

This just in: offensive coordinators get paid, too. Their job isare to study film on opposing defenses to figure out a way to exploit said defense. If a defense hasn’t change for years, then a book quickly gets out.

This just in: If Lovie hasn’t adjusted his defense in years, he probably isn’t going to change any time soon.

Buckle up, fans.

    @Joe

F that BS about Buckle up. I have been talking to a lot of people this week, And they are just getting off the Bucs Bus!!! No one is going to take that ride again!!

That embarrassment last Sunday is going to have lasting ramifications!!!

  2. Nick Says:

Zone Coverage is No coverage if you aren’t getting pressure. The whole point of a zone is to confuse the QB into making a bad throw. Bad throws aren’t happening if you have 5 seconds in a clean pocket.

  3. bucrightoff Says:

With the nearly universal negativity towards Lovie at his point, I’d figure I would pump him up a little be reminding him he’s ultimately going to steal $20 million from the stupid Glazer children, and he didn’t have to actually do his job at all to collect that $20 million. Good for him, I hope he has a nice retirement now with that cash in the bank.

  4. Orlando Kevin Says:

You could say, it’s just one game so relax. But if it’s a long standing trend, that’s a real concern.

Teams that win are creatively game planning and they change frequently.

If they fire Lovie, keep Koetter.

  5. J Says:

What else never change is Joe may not know Quarterbacks.

  6. Seminole Bill Says:

I was there on Sunday. The Titans ran a play with a handoff fake followed by a quick slant to a receiver – 52 yard touchdown. They came back and ran the play again – first down. A few plays later they ran it again – another gain. Not once did the Bucs defense adjust. You would think after getting beat on a TD where the receiver was wide open over the middle someone would get out the chart and make a defensive adjustment.

  7. tdtb2015 Says:

The only hope at this point is for Jimmy to stop throwing high school INTs while he makes progress this season. Hopefully we get to see a decent offense even if we loose the rest of the games.

The defense has no heart or integrity. Their PAYCHECK along with their love of their JOB should keep them firing on all cylinders until the whistle blows!

Wow! We don’t really have a team. What a mess. I feel for season ticket holders.

  8. John McKillop Says:

These players don’t believe or trust this system, Lovie has no credibility as far as they are concerned. Unless an outside pass rusher falls out of the sky this defense is doomed every week.

  9. The Buc Realist Says:

You know that last Sunday was bad when there is no sheep (lovie loyalist) saying that they watched the replay 3 times and it was not as bad as they thought!!!

  10. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

That literally looked like a bad high school defense out there last week, LVD said on his show last week that the linebackers must get their run/pass key then “drop to their zone” which states that they were never blitzing nor playing man the entire game and that they were in cover 2,3,4 the entire game and that ius easy picking for any quartreback and it makes lovie look horrible because he was not attacking and giving the team the best chance to win…he should be fired who cares if he is maybe they win 5 games instead of zero…bad hire glazers

  11. SchlomieBarMitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

Teams now make so much money that obtaining large attendance numbers and winning is no longer the main goal. It’s about money. The money overshadows the game. The NFL wants to be able to control cities and states…When a team does win a Super Bowl, it means that the NFL will hold even more influence in the city/state of the winning team.

  12. Hawaiian Buc Says:

The ball is in your court Glazers. I think it’s time to say what I’ve feared: I was wrong about Lovie Smith. I was wrong for believing in him. I seem to be guilty of this with every coach, but I really thought he was different. In fact, he appears to be worse. I have nothing left to defend him with. I do not believe he is going to turn this around. I hope more than anything I’m wrong, but I don’t see any way that will happen. I am not going to be fooled by a couple meaningless wins and a few close losses that are inevitable for every team. It’s not going to be good enough unless we can win more than we lose, and eliminate these ridiculous blowouts that seem to happen two or three times a year. A NFL team should not be blown out. The talent is too close. That points to bad coaching, period.

  13. OneLove Says:

Joseph, every defense has weaknesses. Even Ronde Barber said what made OUR Tampa 2 GREAT was that they all collectively KNEW WHAT THE WEAKNESSES WERE!!! THEY KNEW HOW TO EXECUTE!! THEY WERE MUCH MORE TALENTED!!!

Don’t give me this BULLSH!T about how we have 10 PRO BOWLERS on this defense that are victims of POOR COACHING!! These guys just can’t play for sh!t!!! WE ARE GETTING BEAT IN ZONE, MAN TO MAN, AND WHEN WE BLITZ!!

“It’s as simple as that” – Lovie Smith aka “Fire me? I wish a MUTHA F!@%! WOULD!”

  14. thunderchunkyPA Says:

Fellow Bucs fans, this is not going to change. He will stick with E(D)S and everyone sees he can’t play or snap. He will stick with this old horse and buggy defense, while everyone else is using a Ferrari. This is on Team Glazier for hiring the coach BEFORE the GM. Licht is well connected, he worked with PHL, AZ, NE, maybe, just maybe he could have chosen someone else. Looks like we will not have any meaningful games again this season.

  15. Couch Fan Says:

I said all week that if the Bucs sit back and only rush 4 that Mariota and pretty much any other QB would eat us alive. I prayed that we would blitz and blitz and blitz some more like everybody else does to rookie QBs but Imcompetent Lovie did exactly what I expected. At this point you know what you are getting with Lovie’s team. Way to kill all the momentum you had gained this Off season. Hope the Glazers are paying attention. Lovie is killing this team.

  16. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Bucrightoff

going to steal $20 million from the stupid Glazer children,

Sorry BRO cool your initials are BRO…but that doesn’t give me any solace. Because the Glazers stole our team and our ticket money for a half dozen years to get ManU. Now they’re worth over 2Billion thanks to looting our team for those years. 20 million is chump change.

I’ve already conceded on a couple of threads that Realist/Tmax/Dallas were right and I was wrong about Lovie. Watching Quinn’s defense last night it’s also clear their points about Lovie’s passive defense versus an attacking defense were also correct. We are a reacting defense instead of a proactive defense.

  17. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    OneLove,

In no way would I classify us as an extremely talented team. That being said, we have enough talent to be competitive, especially against Tennessee! Defensively, we have 3 Pro Bowlers (I’m calling Lavonte a Pro Bowler because he should be). That’s more than the majority of teams. However, none of the three of them are shining. That tells me they aren’t being put in the position to succeed. I highly doubt they just forgot how to play football. Guys like Banks, Lansannah, and McDonald could start for a lot of teams. That should be good enough to not give up 42 on opening week to a 2-14 team! They either weren’t prepared or they have just been horribly coached. Probably both. Offensively, we are treating Jameis as if he’s a 10 year vet. Where are the easy throws? Where are the max protects? Why not roll him out more? Where are the quick slants? Where are the jump balls to that monster wearing #83? But no, we want to continue to put him in 7 step drops and have him survey the field, while this plastic offensive line lets defenders run by them without any problems. Gee, I wonder why we aren’t successful! This is coaching, plain and simple. I can handle getting beat because the other team is more talented, but there is no way in hell anyone can convince me that Tennessee is 28 points better than us.

  18. tmaxcon Says:

At this point it’s not if Lovie gets canned it’s when. Can the Glazers afford to wait. I don’t know that answer. Midseason terminations are rare but can they afford permanent damage mentally to fameis and rest of the young guys with potential

  19. DefenseRules Says:

@HawaiianBuc …. “there is no way in hell anyone can convince me that Tennessee is 28 points better than us.”

Was at the game. Watch the re-runs again. Titans were kind in only beating us by 28 points. They slacked off in the second half and pulled Mariota and a number of their starters at the start of the 4th qtr.

  20. Robert99 Says:

They need to fire lovie before fans move on to other teams, it’s happening in droves

  21. Bucco brice Says:

3 OF THE WORST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCES IN BUCS HISTORY IN 17 GAMES WITH LOVIE…1 is somewhat acceptable- a fluke?, 2 makes you shake your head, a 3rd is ridiculous and requires termination….”simple as that”….

  22. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Tmax

At this point it’s not if Lovie gets canned it’s when.

My predictions are already up in smoke and so here’s a guess.

If we hit the bye at 0-5 the fan pressure will simply be too immense for the Glazers.

  23. Pelbuc Says:

After 40 yrs I’m officially out. During the early lean years, Bucs had little talent and a cheap owner. But since Gruden, the Glazer dweebs have whiffed on every hire and the GMs specialize in drafting worthless players and FAs. No more excuses or pleas for patience. If the franchise continues with this incompetence and apathy on every level, the fans should check out cuz nothing will improve. L&L, the players and coaches are stealing money. Everyone knows TB is where there’s no accountability. Commitment to failure.

  24. DallasBuc Says:

Love hearing that shill for Bucs cover for his buddy Lovie Smith for 3 hours on his afternoon drive time radio broadcast. This well of intelligencia sits there for 3 whole hours trying to convince the listening audience that it is all the players fault. Coaching has nothing to do with that horror show we witnessed on Sunday. The absurdity is so offensive that it is sadly amusing…”as far as that’s concerned”

  25. passthebuc Says:

    @the buc realist

You are correct about lasting ramifications.
Hockey season is just around the corner. Why would someone want to waste time watching Lovie just to end up with being disappointed.
I am not quite ready to quit forever, but I am close.

  26. tmaxcon Says:

    StPete

I think your onto something even 1-4 he goes and he might not even survive NO if the team comes out heartless again and are blown out yet again

  27. The original "Kevin" Says:

I have wondered for years why our corners never press the recievers. Not just with lovie but every coach. Why we play zone every play and why its so hard to change things up.

How about this….as bad as this team is promote koetter to head coach right now. Fire lovie and fire frasier. Just let the defense ball out playing backyard football the rest of the season. Again….it cant get any worse so why not???

Koetter is well respected and will find a good dc and other coaches to join him no problem. Hiring him now would give those coaches time to plan ahead a bit right?

This is obviously going nowhere with him. His coaching has been proven to be out dated and Im sorry but you can day the players gave up on sunday all you want….but those same players would have played theyre arses off for another coach on another team. Please just fire him now and do the fans a favor. If its not going to work than fire him now….why wait for the end of the season?????DO IT NOW!!!!IM DONE…..AGAIN!!$$$

  28. Warrenfb12 Says:

So again, these Tampa 2 guys…time to bury that play call for situational use only. Worse thing is, our defense is now loaded with retreads. Anyone remember how lavonte David was under Greg schiano? Mason foster? Lovie is not the right man for this job and never was.

  29. salish_seamonster Says:

Lovie is toast. Dead man walking. May not even survive the season.

Also, Winston looks a little too much like Byron Leftwich.

  30. Bucs 4 Lyfe Says:

Bucs’ fan base is splitting up… Its time to root for another team or fire the people responsible. This team is an embarrassment to this city and a pathetic excuse for an NFL Franchise. I will never attend another game unless something drastic changes!

  31. rayjay1122 Says:

Well, the one thing this has done is to unify fans that have been divided over the off season. That is the only positive result of the situation we find ourselves in. I remember how the horrible atrocity that occurred during 9-11 in NYC brought the country together regardless of race, age, social class or religion. That is the type of impact the atrocity witnessed on 9-13 in the den of depression has accomplished in Bucs nation.

  32. cmurda Says:

More credibility to my claim that Lovie should have been canned after the Week 1 trainwreck. I believed in Lovie but he’s lost me and quite possibly his whole team. He is going to have to earn it back and it starts Sunday. 1 more crap performace and Lovie may actually end up getting the boot. This is a great article and sadly, Tanier is spot on. I’ve already said that the Tampa 2 simply doesn’t work anymore and it’s actually atrocious if you don’t have a very solid D Line. We don’t even have an average D Line.

  33. The original "Kevin" Says:

@St.pete….I was thinking the same thing last night. Watching quinn turn around that falcons defense and play tough aggresive football with a team that was horrible last season. Lovie needs to go.

I would like to add AGAIN that Licht and Koetter both need to put this team together moving forward. They are the best hope for a turnaround. Do it now ….why wait??? Get the ball rolling and let us witness the change through the season instead of making us wait for another box of chocolates next season. Ray Jay should just be opened up as a homeless shelter for the rest of the season….and maybe next year unless bug changes are made now….not later

Lovie is toast. Dead man walking. May not even survive the season.

Also, Winston looks a little too much like Byron Leftwich.

I’m going to reserve judgment on Winston for now. Hes working with rookies on the O Line and Evan Smith and Mankins. Seriously, that’s a recipe for disaster. JW could easily right the ship and show us some serious hope. I’m also not anointing Mariota the Head of the Table at The Last Supper either. The guy played a defense that my 14 year old son could have carved up like a tender turkey. I am in agreement with you that Lovie may not survive the entire season. If we have a performance resembling Week 1 against the Aints, the billboards and fan hate is going to exponentially increase. The Glazers may try to hold out for as long as possible but to keep any semblance of a fan base, they will have to act. If we start out 0-3 or 0-4, I think the hammer will come.

  35. The original "Kevin" Says:

Why wait for 0 and 4? Sunday tells it all. Four monthes of preparation to fa e another 2 win team and they pull theyre starters like its a preseason blowout or a meaningless week 17 game? We need a respected offensive mind for a head coach and him and licht van work together to assemble a real coaching staff. This is pathetic

  36. Rrsrq Says:

If nothing changes with this team, by game 11, Lovie will be fired, Leslie Frazier will become the interim because of experience, Licht will reach out to Billacheat, Josh McDaniel will get his second chance and become the head coach of your Buccaneers for 2016, he can teach Jameis by simply showing Him, this is what what Brady does, including deflating balls

  37. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Goat = Lovie

  38. The Real Drew Says:

Nice try, but I’m sitting here watching the coaches film and so far most of these passes are succeeding against man coverage. The Kendall Wright TD is against a man/zone, as Kwon Alexander bites on play action and leaves the middle of the field open and Bradley McDougald doesn’t fill well letting him run to the end zone. I’m not here to defend Lovie, but this is just lazy as I’m assuming the “holes” are supposed to be in cover 2, which wasn’t called against many of these passing plays.

  39. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Really inappropriate and juvenile comparison RayJay. However, for a very meaningless and incomsenquential passtime there is concensus that we have a sh1tty coach. Please try to not so much ignorance and lack of perspective in the future RayJay.

  40. Lakeland Buc Says:

We are a mess now, but we won’t be a mess for long. I’m confident that we bounce back from this bad game. There will be lots of good games that we play, and we will win a lot of those games. It’s way too early to be discussing firing Lovie, give the team a chance to redeem themselves.

  41. rayjay1122 Says:

Inappropriate and Juvenile. Thanks for the kind words. If you could comprehend what I was trying to relay it would not be that the two events were anywhere near the same magnitude. I meant absolutely no disrespect to the victims of 9-11. I was simply reminded of how the unification of the people occurred against a common enemy and the comments and attitudes of most Bucs fans have been more unified since witnessing the drubbing on Sunday. Chill out with the name calling since you do not know me or my maturity level.

  42. PRBucFan Says:

The Glazers will permantly lose this fanbases trust if this happens again and they don’t move swiftly.

  43. PRBucFan Says:

P.S. Where the hell is the home button you used to have?

  44. WalkdaPlank Says:

Lovie needs to be shown the door before he ruins the career of Jameis Winston.

Lovie needs to be shown the door before he ruins the career of Jameis Winston.

I’m calling for Lovie’s head also but in fairness Koetter and the QB Coach are responsible for Winston’s career right now.

  47. Buccfan37 Says:

Lovie doesn’t instill much confidence with his deadpan demeanor. I’ll give him that.

  48. Buc1987 Says:

Robert99 ….nobody is moving onto other teams. No REAL fan leaves their team. That’s reserved for losers like you.

  49. LargoBuc Says:

Its not just Lovie and its not just the players. Its everything! Wetger we were in zone, man, blitz, we got wrecked regardless. Those slants were killing us. The corner should be in press inside shoulder and all I saw was off coverage on the outside shoulder! Nothing worked. I expected more from the play calling and the execution. Especially Verner. The safeties and linebackers looked lost. The d line had zero chance against those three step drops. And the refs were just the cherry on top .

  50. Tampadeuce Says:

The real drew, thank you. Cover 2….not ran often guys, it IS outdated due to the new rules implemented over the last 13 yrs protecting wide receivers. Ever wonder why there are only a handful of good defensive backs in the NFL recently? Love is not coaching well, but it’s not because of cover 2.

  51. JAB83 Says:

JOE!!! Try praying to the One TRUE God this week a incorrage others to do so vs some make believe “football gods” and I bet money we win going away… Why??? Because some things never change. The Word of God is the same as yesterday today and forever more!!! Jesus is wortg trying cause CLEARLY THOSE FOOTBALL gODS COULD GIVE A RATS ASS ABOUT THE BUCS… LOL… Sorry not gonna let this one go… Excellet opportunity for some good old fashion repentance… LETS ALL TRY IT WITH AN HONEST HEART… LORD JESUS PLEASE FORGIVE ME OF MY SINS… IF THE BUCS WIN THIS WEEK I WILL DO MY BEST TO REMEMBER YOU THROUGHOUT THE WEEK… amen

  52. Lakeland Buc Says:

We will be ok, look at the positives instead of focusing on the negatives. We will grow as a team, and we will win. As I said when we announced the final 53 after the waiver wire signing, their will be a lot of turnover before the season end. Now after one game we have signed a center/guard, we got rid of two players on the 53 and three players on the practice squad. It don’t make no sense at all to fire Jason and Lovie. Let’s stay the course and pickup some wins and improve every week.

  53. This Guy Right Here Says:

Lovie’s set for retirement. He has no reason, no incentive, to change his ways now… He’s set.

He knows he’ll never coach in this league again. He knows he doesnt have what it takes to stop a 2015 NFL opponent. But he doesnt give 2 fcuks… He’s making his money, and is set FOR LIFE…

I have yet to hear Lovie go on record and say “Its on me”! Be a man! And admit that its YOU who are fking up! That its YOU, LOVIE! Who cant get the most out of his players! That its YOU LOVIE, whose TOO STUBBORN to adjust, try a different approach when your 20th Century Defensive Scheme JUST ISNT WORKING!!!!!!

    KOETTER FOR HEAD COACH!!!
    LESLIE BACK TO DC!!!
AND PUT A RESTRAINING ORDER ON LOVIE FROM GETTING WITHIN 500 FEET FROM BUCS PLAYERS, ADMIN, COACHES, AND FANS!!!!!

    FCK YOU LOVIE!!!!!@!!!!

  54. Buccfan37 Says:

Buc1987… my thoughts exactly. How does one walk away from being a Bucs fan? Not gonna happen!

  55. Tampa Tony Says:

As useless as Lovie is he is here until the end of the season. Glazers don’t Fire coaches in season.

  56. tmaxcon Says:

The next positive Buccaneers event will take place when the football gods boot Lovies sorry ARSE out the door….

  57. tmaxcon Says:

    Tampa Tony

Unfortunately you are correct. Glazer clowns don’t have the stones to pull trigger midseason

  58. This Guy Right Here Says:

    @Lakeland Buc,

I respect your optimism.. I really do. Now if you can just share whatever it is youre on, I’ll even pay double…

  59. Cobraboy Says:

No pass defense works without pressure on the QB.

  60. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Explain to me why the tampa 3-6 sports host supports lovie so much but help run schiano out fo town, the pup who claims to know all throws loyalty at the wrong areas, ie freeman and now lovie and then against gruden…..saints blow lovie out this week it may be time to pull the plug on the lovie expeirience

  61. Robert99 Says:

Lol 87 you’ve been wrong on everything…. And your opinion is I’m the loser LOL

  62. DallasBuc Says:

Dusthty- the senile pup has put loyalty to his buddies like Brooks and Incompetent Lovie Smith above the apparent truth about what we all watched transpire on Sunday. I have never seen this fan base react in such massive unison to the loss of a single game. That is because this rube has conned the ownership and the majority of this fan base into bringing back respectability and competence after 5 tough years of Morris/Schiano. Going 2-14 and starting off season 2 by absolutely getting taken apart in front of a loyal and personally invested full house has exposed the con. The game is over. Goose cooked. OBP resident fat lady singing. DallasBuc full of “I told you so”

  63. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Real Drew no disrespect but ive watched the coach’s film on nfl network and that coverage is straight COVER 2 the LB to the 2 wr side failed to alter route other lbs bit on fake and safeties sucked… that is cover 2 all around… and mariotta threw in the hole where no one was and neither was conte nor swearinger…. horrible defense horribly played… IT was LVD the will who didnt drop to the curl nor get depth nor re route the #2 poorly played by the players but just a bad defense to be in against a rookie qb

  64. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

DALLAS…. i have been with you since probably the ravens game… and many ppl on this board have called u many names among them disloyal or go get another team… blah blah…. im not happy u are right nor me being right it pisses me off that we now have to wait another 2 years to see maybe 8-8… sucks absolutely sucks and the season is over before it began…. not sure bosa is the pick as much as trading down… open the wallets go after some REAL OL and get new GM

  65. bucrightoff Says:

So we fired Schiano because he made us a joke…now we’re a bigger joke than pretty much any time since the 0-26 start. Rookie QBs, backup QBs, QBs who’ve switched teams….they’ve all torched the Bucs. This is as bad or worse than that first Schiano team that almost broke the record for pass yards allowed.

  66. Kenman115 Says:

I was really disappointed when they announced that we would be playing in ugly uniforms. I had high hopes for winning – but looking like a CFL team. Now that we are in a race for the top pick again, the uniforms don’t seem like such a big deal. I suspect we will have time to change them before this team becomes relevant again.

  67. Aceofaerospace Says:

It’s only Tuesday night. It’s not to late to fire Lovie. I guarantee at week 17 I’ll still be calling for his dismissal because he won’t change. He can’t change. He knows no other defense.

  68. This Guy Right Here Says:

The Saints are gonna go all ‘Deliverance’ on Lovie’s soft ass…

Drew Brees is gonna carve us up like Tony Montana did Rebenga…

The only thing Lovie Smith will adjust at halftime, is the glass d!ldo stuck up his stubborn ass…

    Koetter for HC!!!!
    Leslie back to DC!

    FCK YOU LOVIE!!!!!!!

  69. Dave Says:

Personally I don’t buy it. EVERY defense has weak spots. Every single one.
The ones that do great have the great personal which cover up the weakness spots. It’s as simple as that.

  70. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

So what is up with almost a complete turnover of…..THE PRACTICE SQUAD today? Do these clowns know what they want? One week in and already the joke of the NFL. Currently ranked 32 out of 32. I guess it could be worse if we were ranked 40 out of 32.

  71. DallasBuc Says:

Dusthty- I stayed positive and largely supportive of both Morris and Schiano but when they were canned I understood. However, after those tough 5 years I said that the next guy is going to have to get results. So when Lovie was hired I said that’s cool but he better win some damn football games. His first move is to hire his own GM. Second move is to hire that career loser Trash McCown, not to compete but to start. Ugh! Then countless other moves in that offseason before all the losing actually began that soured me entirely all while everyone (fans and media morons) was drunk on the idea of Lovie Smith. I said he better win. He barely won 2 football games now out of 17 tries and has had the doors blown off in most of them. The score doesn’t tell the truth that we were never going to come close to winning most of those games.
If I’m the Glazers I am thinking about getting a real football guy in here to run the football operations, including the hiring of HC and possibly GM.
There is nothing going on that suggests championship much less turning the culture around.

  72. This Guy Right Here Says:

Ive been shtting on Lovie so much, that all that sht is starting to fall on our Soft-Spoken Defensive ‘stars’…

Remember when Sapp would fckin ROAR so loud, from pregame warm ups up until the post game locker room?!!! Lynch would lay hits SO LOUD – they wouldnt replay the video THEYD REPLAY THE SOUNDBYTE!!! BROOKS dudes, telling them ‘DONT GET BACK UP’! Remember that???!!!

I miss those LOUD ass players… Now we have comatose Lovie, quiet ass-with a smile McCoy, and the soft spoken, LVD, softer spoken Verner, even Banks will put a baby to sleep in a manner of seconds….

What a Soft Assed team weve got… SM damn Head…

  73. This Guy Right Here Says:

    Whens Lovies birthday???

Somebody send him a 6 months supply of Testosterone Shots and a Membership to Gruden’s FFCA… Soft ass motherf-r…

  74. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    Just wait on it.

  75. DB55 Says:

Funny thing is 95% of us will be glued to the TV Sunday at 1pm.

  76. SOEbuc Says:

Everyone keeps bringing up the hockey season. If we go 2-14 again will the glazers please sell to Jeff vinik (if he would be willing). He knows how to run things. Then he could eventually buy the rays also. That would be freakin sweet

  77. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Glued to see if we can get even worse that what we were last week. Brees with make our 2015 milk cartons his b#$%ch

  78. StPeteBucsFan Says:

@LakelandBuc Admire your attitude. Somebody has to keep the faith! Sorry I’ve fallen off the bandwagon but seriously…you couldn’t have written a worse script. Lovie’s defense was just awful. Our franchise savior played scary bad no matter how anybody tries to spin it.

IF Licht can persuade Josh McDaniel to come here then he’s a freaking genius.
Bill Parcells has turned us down. Bill Cowher…most recently Chip Kelly…I could go on but there is a trend developing eh?

People calling for the return of Chucky are higher than me when I forecast 10 wins. Why would Chucky ever come back to the Bucs? He knows the Bucs problems intimately and they have the last name Glazer.

Why do we suppose the really good coaches turn us down. What makes us believe that any coach with talent would come here? No taxes, beautiful weather, and owners who don’t know their arses from a hole in the sand?

I’ll watch every game and still cheer for the Bucs. But wow it is sooo much more fun to be a Lightning fan. Cheering for the Bolts and Jeffery Vinik and Stevie Yzerman and John Cooper is our payback for having to suffer through the Bucs. If only there was some magical way to get the Glazers to sell to Vinik.

  79. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    we haven’t fired lovie yet???

  80. scott Says:

    Jim Schwartz for DC !!!!!!

  81. The Real Drew Says:

    @Dusthty
Watched it again and its possible. Its played very badly if so. Tim Jennings sticks with his man out of his zone. Clearly LVD is playing zone. Lansannah appears to meet the RB that the ball was not faked to. Banks stays in the flat but knocks his man down. Kwon plays where’s the ball. Play happens fast. Safties stay deep, which hurt. If they were supposed to play 2 deep, that is a bad call. But, the point is that they were getting beat in man just the same, can’t blame cover 2 for an all around disaster.

  82. Buc1987 Says:

    Simple is as simple does.

  83. This Guy Right Here Says:

    @DB55

Youre damn right Im gonna be glued to the game on Sunday… I’m gonna need a good comedy to get over what I witnessed this past weekend.

  84. Aceofaerospace Says:

It’s 9:30 Tuesday night. It’s still not too late to fire Lovie. I don’t give a rats arse how many fired coaches the glazers have on payroll. You soccer fan idiots created this mess. Fix it. Either hire a competent coach or hire someone who can hire a competent coach. Proof that money does not make you smart. Idiots!

  85. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Real Drew its just pathetic play … i want our bucs to be the NE patriots… i want to talk smack to everyone that I AM A BUC FAN… not act like im a recovering bucs fan… i want every city to say man that jameis is one of the best ever and wow is coach (insert name) doing a good job… we have waited since last october for the draft and for last sunday and its friggin over…. Work sucks on monday…sunday nite sucked… friggin my favorite show ray donovan sucked this past sunday all because the team i have loved since a little kid is at rock bottom and is not showing any signs of getting better anywhere…. well maybe our kicker is better than the eagles so i guess we got that….

  86. Buc1987 Says:

Aceofaerospace…Joe posted an article awhile back about one of the soccer brats. Can’t remember which one. Anyhow according to the brat, it hurts him too when the Bucs lose games. So certainly if they keep losing games in the manner that we just witnessed on Sunday, Lovie will NOT last the season. Schiano wasn’t getting blown out of our own stadium. Lovie on the other hand…well you know the deal.

    WE ALL KNOW THE DEAL!!!!!

  87. J Says:

    Jameis Winston: Coach Killer

  88. This Guy Right Here Says:

    To put this in perspective,

Lovie took all of our optimism we built up over the offseason, he took all of our built-up hope, promised us with change… And just like that president from the city he came from, he shrugged his shoulders, and individually pinched one off on each and every one of us… Only to tell us to relax, its only one game… No you POS!!! its 15 games NOW!!!! Out of 17!

    Koetter For

    Interim HC!!!
    Leslie back to DC!!!
DEMOTE Lovie to the ‘CASH FOR TICKETS’ Sign Flipper on Dale Mabry! AND IT BETTER BE HIS OWN CASH! LOVIE YOU FCKIN PUNK!!!/!!!!!

  89. Buc1987 Says:

I’m glad they are playing at New Orleans this week. That way they can embarrass themselves in front of Saints fans and not punish our fans this week and the next @ Houston. That home crowd packed into Raymond James on Sunday didn’t deserve that BS put out on that field. It just ain’t right.

  90. J Says:

@ThisGuy My optimism died draft night

  91. Lakeland Buc Says:

Take it easy folks, no need to push the panic button. We will win some games, we will improve. Just take a deep breath and relax your mind, we are the Bucs. This is what we do, just smile and be happy that you get another chance to see us play on Sunday. People need to quit the ” Fire Lovie Talk” it don’t make any sense. I love me some Bucs, and I can’t wait until Sunday..Whoodat.

  92. J Says:

The happiest 3 teams after the #1 overall selection… Saints Panthers n Falcons

  93. This Guy Right Here Says:

    @J

My rage towards our HC is justified… The man’s coached over 150 games in this league…

You throwing the towel in on Jameis after just 1 game, cmon… I know IM crazy, but youre fckin Nuts.

  94. Buc1987 Says:

“just smile and be happy that you get another chance to see us play on Sunday.”

Lakeland Buc…don’t you mean we get another chance to see us get ran over by a truck on Sunday?

    If so…then I agree.

  95. Bucnut2 Says:

Joes, I totally understand your desire to focus on an obviously input defense. It distracts from the more obvious JW versus MM comparisons and allows you to totally avoid the fact the you told us JW is ‘pro ready’ and MM will never make a good pro qb. IF I were you and most of the homers on this site I would not want to talk about it either. Oh and by the way, you told us JW practice interceptions were by design and that he was simply testing his limits. Bottom line, you and the rest of the media bought the company line. Ted Thompson of Green Bay and many other GM’s favored MM over JW. This is a disaster and no amount of spin will cover it. Say hello to the late version of Josh Freeman. FSUking, you’ve been quiet since the game. Where is you trash talking now???

  96. J Says:

    @This guy

I think Jameis will be in the conversation with Peyton Manning one day.

As in he’s the 2015 version of Peyton’s draft competitor Ryan Leaf

  97. Destinjohnny Says:

At this stage can anyone say lovie has done better then schiano?

  98. tmaxcon Says:

    Lakeland

You need to share some of those happy pills your on… Lovie is total garbage, the roster is garbage and the season was over before the first qtr ended. They couldn’t prepare for a garbage titans team in 5 months how are they going to prepare for a superior team on the road in 6 days. Not going to happen. Optimism is one thing but delusional thinking is a treatable condition.

  99. SOEbuc Says:

Can we PLEEEEEAASE pull a Katrina and go in and destroy New Orleans this week?!! If its the opposite and we look the same as week one, they do need to promote Koetter and/or Frasier to interim HC immediately

  100. This Guy Right Here Says:

    @Destinjohnny

I hated Schiano with A PASSION! …still do! But Id take that Sociopath over Lovie right now!

He can even bring a little bit of MRSA with him, and it WOULDNT COMPARE to this CLUSTERFCK that Lovie’s gotten us in!

  101. JAB83 Says:

EVERYBODY DO THIS WITH ME SILENTLY…. Lord Jesus, Thank You for forgiving me of my sins… I hope to do better going forward in my personal life!!! That said, it would really help if the Bucs kick some ass this week!!!! If they dont its cool but if you would please answer this prayer…. Amen

  102. This Guy Right Here Says:

    @JAB83,

I said that exact prayer on Sept 13 @ 4:00, and it doesnt work man… it just does not work!

  103. Buc1987 Says:

I said Schiano was a better coach right around after last season in here and I got jumped all over for saying it. I’ve been saying it for awhile. I was saying it even louder yesterday on this site. He’s gone now though. We can’t look back now.

  104. GhostofSchiano Says:

Schiano’s defense never got blown out by 28 points or more like lovies has three times in 17 games. Lovie is 2-15 as Bucs HC. Panic my @$$!!! They had all off season, all of training camp, a full pre season and ten days after the final pre season game to prepare for the 2 & 14 titans. No excuse for that steaming pile of $h!t we had to endure on Sunday. Go to hell lovie.

  105. tmaxcon Says:

    JAB83

Lovie and his heartless choirboys need more than prayer. Prayers can’t replace talent nor heart….

  106. Buc1987 Says:

I also thought they tanked 1/2 of last season too….so what do I know. I don’t believe in conspiracy theories I don’t know why I concocted that in my head.

    Lovie really is clueless.

  107. mac Says:

Fire Lovie Smith… Keep Koetter… Hire Matt Patricia as head coach/DC… We will be drafting high again this year so the rebuild will continue… We need to replace Mankins and Smith on the offensive line… We need a defensive end to rush the passer and better safties…

Hang in there Tampa fans… This is going to hurt a little…

  108. Buc1987 Says:

I just thought that there was no way he could actually suck THAT bad last season. So I thought he had to be tanking half the season on purpose. You have to be doing it on purpose if you suck that bad right? That was last season.

Yesterday proved to me that Lovie sucks THAT bad.

  109. cmurda Says:

No offense to the religious out there but Lovie better forget praying and start preparing for the Aints. The fact that Lovie only knows how to sit back in his cover 2 and sprinkle in 1 on 1 coverage on the outside will do nothing to stop the entire wide open middle of the field. Praying while prepared is one thing but getting easily outcoached game after game is a disease that requires medical treatment. Don’t be like this Lovie. Get help at your local doctor’s office.

  110. This Guy Right Here Says:

    mac said:

“Hang in there Tampa fans… This is going to hurt a little…”

A waaaaaaay better slogan than “Seige the day”

  111. Buc1987 Says:

Yesterday..lol Sunday…it still feels like Monday.

  112. BucsFanInTokyo Says:

I am still mad, disappointed, stunned, and disgusted.

  113. Destinjohnny Says:

Guys it’s more than just the coach. Have you ever given much thought why colleges put such an emphasis On recruiting? And why they make such a big deal on signing day??? The bucs have for the most part the same scouting staff the last 10 years and they historically spend the least on scouting.
So which team has the least talent in the nfl?????
Then love has final say on personnal.
So we fire lovie get a new coach and guess what he goes 3-13 4-12 then gets fired. Then Pete and repeat.
    It’s broken people

  114. BucscsQcCity Says:

I’m asking for a refund on nfl game pass. can’t stand watching subpar football.

I was willing to accept tough losses but not blow out like these. I’ll watch the box score on sundays but I’m done

  115. Skyline Crew Says:

Tampa 2 is out dated. NFL needs to force Glazers to sell. Fire Lovie, Frazier, Warhop, and anybody else seen fit to fire.

  116. DB55 Says:

    87

That home crowd packed into Raymond James on Sunday didn’t deserve that BS put out on that field. It just ain’t right.
    **********************
Do you remember last year when people were blaming the fans? They said “The “real fans” know it takes time”.

Can anyone explain to me why schiano gets blamed for MRAS virus? I missed what he did, I would imagine the facilities mgr would keep the place clean. What am I missing.

Can you imagine Jimmy Johnson as Team President repping us in the owners meetings. Maybe we get a few more calls our way, idk.

JJ as Team Prez, Who do you think he’d bring in to coach? JJ got balls and brain both of which we desperately need in abundance.

    #PFUDR #thatsappstuffwillneverdie #footballmatters #sunkenship

  117. Lakeland Buc Says:

To be honest, we can’t get decent free agents to come here to play. We have to settle for the waiver wire players, which are trash players. Even the scum of the NFL refuse to come here, Greg Hardy, Aldon Smith, they take less money to play somewhere else. That’s why we have to settle for the Chris Conte, Major Wright, Tim Jennings, Sterling Moore, Mike Jenkins, Bruce Carter, Henry Melton, George Johnson, EDS, Garrett Gilkey, Oneil Cousins, Brandon Myers I can go on and on. That’s why Wade Phillips refused the job, Chip Kelley refused the job, a lot of coaches refused the Head Coach job here. We have to look back at how this team did Keyshawn Johnson, Warrick Dunn, Warren Sapp, John Lynch, Derrick Brooks, Simeon Rice, Brian Kelly etc. They fired Tony Dungy after he went to the playoffs, they fired John Gruden after he went 9-7, I can understand that Dungy couldn’t get the Super Bowl win, I can understand that we 9-3 and lost 4 straight and that got Gruden fired. It will be very hard for us to get a good Head Coach, and it’s even harder for us to get good players here. This mess is bigger than Jason and Lovie, we have to face reality. NO ONE WANTS TO COME HERE.

  118. Clodhopper Says:

This article is the exact point I’ve been harping on since Sunday. Quit telling us it’s just one game you dunce!

  119. BrianBucs Says:

So has anybody seen or heard anything out of Jason Licht since early Sunday? He has a lot to be held accountable for in this mess also

  120. This Guy Right Here Says:

Well its on to New Orleans…

And in the words of Lovie Smith regarding our upcoming game against N.O.:

“its not like the opponent we played last week, we have an idea of what THEYRE gonna do”

Per WDAE, he basically admitted he HAD NO CLUE what TENN was going to do!!!!

Listen to it yourself @ 42 minutes, 40 seconds in! LOVIE ADMITS HE WAS CLUELESS!!! FCK YOU LOVIE!!!!

    http://www.buccaneers.com/videos/audio/Bucs_Total_Access_Lovie_Smith/59339573-954e-458b-9d46-c32e660eb92b

  121. DB55 Says:

Lovie should March them out there with the Popsicle uniforms and their current helmets and say now think about what you just did.

  122. PRBucFan Says:

    Thanks CMurda

  123. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Falcons Defense looked so good and it hasn’t even been a year yet

  124. Danati74 Says:

Damn, will we ever get it right? Same sh!t every year. Bad coach, GM, draft, FA class, and game plans. We wasted 2 late round picks on WR that really couldn’t make the team. Last year late round pick on OL that one isn’t on the team anymore. Our drafting sucks.Always trading up for players and wasting picks. Rookie GM and out dated coach. Sure we are going to be faithful to our 32nd ranked team, …I guess we like losing. I hate listening to Lovies press conferences just like I hated listening to Shitano’s too. Cant wait til this weekend.

  125. RealBucFan Says:

I’m disgusted with fans on this site. You want pain, move to Cleveland. You cannot rebuild a team in 17 games. I understand why Bucs fans are laughed at now, it’s because of all you morons!

  126. MadMax Says:

^^ Lol, we ARE the Cleveland Browns of the South!! Actually they looked better than us in that preseason game LOL….so maybe we’re setting a “NEW” low!

Im sick of people like you too who keep their pewter colored glasses on no matter what! But go for it….you do you, we’ll do us (where the big boys who really care will be).

  127. meat Says:

Spade is a spade. Fire Lovie- Dirk to HC ASAP! Don’t just wait for the inevitable like they did with Schiano and Rah Rah- make a statement and do it NOW. I also never want to hear about our fierce defense or a run heavy offense that plays a possession style game. Yes, all of those are recipes for success- but I’m sorry- in today’s NFL, simply holding the ball for a long time and punting and playing field position isnt going to cut it. We have 4 or 5 Five THOUSAND YARD PASSERS A year. I listened to Lovies whole presser- first, he isn’t NEAR contrite enough- and it could have been a 100 point game. They had 42 without pushing hard. Lebeau was in shell coverages- they ran and punted on offense- and had Zach Mettenburger in the damn game- WEEK 1. THEY had our record last year.

  128. Joehelldeloxley Says:

SO every GM wants his own HC, and every HC wants hi own staff.

So IF the Bucs fires Lovie and appointed whoever as HC, Does it mean that this new guy will want to bring his own staff and so on ?

WIll it not be firing more than just one guy ? Is there a risk of a complete disaster, yes, I mean even more than the one wer see sunday ?

  129. Aceofaerospace Says:

Jab83. God did answer your prayer. He said, “No”.

  130. SchlomieBarMitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

Look how patient the Bengals have been with Marvin Lewis and his rebuilding project. That’s worked out great huh? They haven’t won a playoff game since ’91.

  131. Mad Mark Says:

I can only hope and pray that Lovie will be back in his basement next season…The blame must start at ownership for poor business decisions and for owning the Bucs in the first place.
The future looks very bleak for Bucs fans.

  132. D-Rome Says:

Look how patient the Bengals have been with Marvin Lewis and his rebuilding project. That’s worked out great huh? They haven’t won a playoff game since ’91.

While I firmly believe a head coach should be given time (at least 4 years IMO) you do have a point with Cincy. Lewis has been there 12 years. That goes beyond patience.

  133. Armando Says:

My 2 cents – the great Bucs defenses had pass rushers all the way bay to #63 Lee Roy Selmon and hitters. But the game has changed ; example the first penalty, 15 yards for a legal clean whack. If you can’t rush the QB and can’t hit the WR’s the Tampa 2 is useless. Time to scheme out something new.

  134. RealBucFan Says:

    @MadMax
Pewter colored glasses? I’m just smart enough to understand that to rebuild a football team, be college or nfl, it does not happen overnight. You can’t go thru coaches every 24 months, you will never succeed. Free agents don’t fix things, because good players don’t become free agents. The blame for the hole we are in goes back 6-7 years, when your first 3 draft picks should be hitting thier prime. Rookies and 2nd year players do not win you 10 games. If anything we are finally seeing promise out of our draft picks, the ones that count. Rounds 1-4. I think Jason Licht has the ability to be a top gm. And with Cleveland, they have not won in 50 years, so we are not even close.
