He’s The Face

When Joe thinks of the Buccaneers who are interesting, intriguing guys people in the bar five beers in can recognize, Gerald McCoy comes to mind.

Arguably the best 43 defensive tackle in the game, GMC is both a stud on the field and a good guy wearing a perpetual smile off it.

Of course, there is Lavonte David, who is GMC’s equal as a player, but with his quiet, almost introverted personality, is hardly a household name. There are also the wide receivers, veteran Vincent Jackson and second-year Mike Evans, who could break out into superstardom this year.

Those are the guys Joe thinks of as the most influential on the Bucs. But what does heavy metal headbanging Jason La Canfora think?

The man who La Canfora typed is the new key to the franchise and its most intriguing player is none other than “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jameis Winston, quarterback: The first overall pick brings all that baggage, and all of that promise, from Florida State. No one will be under a bigger microscope on field and off, and we’ll see what kind of infrastructure the Bucs can build around him. It takes a village. If Winston matures as expected, this could be a sign of much better times ahead. No reason to overthink this choice.

Well, it really is hard to argue this. Few NFL players move the needle like Jameis. The dude doesn’t even have to do anything and he is trending on Twitter. Trust Joe, BSPN and NFL Network aren’t spending thousands of dollars to send people (producers, cameramen, reporters) to One Buc Palace each week to do live hits because of Kwon Alexander.

Joe hasn’t seen this kind of preseason national media attention at One Buc Palace. And it is all because of one man.

“America’s Quarterback.”

La Confora’s statement is hard to argue because it was made by Captain Obvious. It is a foregone conclusion to anyone who has paid an ounce of attention to the Bucs, that Winston will be the face of the franchise. Why?

    1. First overall pick at the most important position and most glaring need…QB.
    2. Although there are veteran above average palyers like LVD, GMC, Evans and V-Jax, the QB is most likely to be the face of any franchise as long as he has the leadership traits and performs on the field.
    3. Winston has shown the outgoing and personable attributes to lead his team as well an above average grasp of the X’s and O’s.
    4. Rare work ethic for a rookie and strong desire to be one of the greats at his position upon the conclusion of his career.

In conclusion, unless in the highly unlikely event that Winston on an on field performance level becomes the bust of the century, he will naturally be the face of the franchise. It is also a mystery that people get paid to prognosticate the obvious.
