Jameis Watch: “Through The Wringer”

February 4th, 2015

jameis winston 1225Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida.

A couple of Sports Illustrated know-it-alls sat down with SI Now host Maggie Gray, a friend of Joe, to discuss Jameis Winston’s draft stock during the NFL’s new era of extreme sensitivity to violence against women.

The consensus here is that Winston will be scrutinized like no prospect in NFL history.

Joe’s sure Winston will be, and he should be. But unlike those in the video, Joe doesn’t thinks the Bucs will be scared off.

Enjoy.

    JUST WINSTON BABY!!

  2. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Duemig had on a QB coach during SB week that had worked/was working extensively with Jameis. After the interview when they came back from break Duemig (who is a Mariota guy) said something to the effect of:

I can’t say what the coach just told me off the air, but I can say that it is coming close to changing my mind about the character concerns surrounding Jameis.

I’m sure the Bucs will get the exact same information and if it can turn around Duemig I have little doubt it will put the Bucs brass at ease.

Can’t wait to have a real QB on this team for the first time in franchise history.

Just suppose that Cleveland falls in love with Marcus Mariota and offers the Bucs:

!. Their 12th overall pick (first round)

    Exactly, a very smart man!

  6. 87HASWOODFORWINSTON Says:

they all agree he’s gonna drop in the draft. lol

jameis , the rapist, winston will never be a buc. they will trade the pick and build the trenches and hand the rains to the CANNON.

  7. WS99 Says:

Yea Tom I asked a similar question yesterday. Btw, another player, a rb from Dallas (Russell?) got arrest for possession and/or domestic violence last night.

  8. 87ForJameisNOMariota Says:

Okay…I’m going to wait a little a bit and let this thread fill up a little before I drop my funny find.

  9. 87HASWOODFORWINSTON Says:

mariota would be a reach and winston will be in prison. only choice is trade the pick. this is from an unbiased opinion

  10. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

If the Bucs give up the number one overall pick for 2 first rounders and a QB that’s currently in rehab then the Tampa Bay community should collectively come together and have everyone in the owners office and front office Baker Acted immediately for their own good

  11. Mr. Patrick Says:

Like I said before, there is no Franchise QB in this draft

  12. 87HASWOODFORWINSTON Says:

much like hernandez the habitual murderer, rapist often repeat their crimes.

it’s not a matter of if, but when….

  13. Mr. Patrick Says:

Don’t worry, I’ve got something good for later also

  14. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

    87haswood

Why does that have any bearing on anything? I don’t understand why you’re talking about rapists since there are no rapists being discussed? Maybe you want to talk about Hernandez? Do you think you’re on a criminology website? Or a profiling website? Your last post has nothing to do with anything

  15. Cascade Says:

If Cleveland offered the #12, #19, a second rounder this year and next, plus Alex Mack, I’d take that deal.

  16. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

One would think Jameis actually had Mariota’s stats

  17. Architek Says:

If Winston can keep his head through this process and the extra scrutiny thanks to the NFL, Rice, McDonald, Sapp and a few – he can really be the poster child for perseverance in the future.

He could easily go from the bad guy to hero if he matures and turn this team around!

  18. Mr. Patrick Says:

If you want to see the kind of scrutiny Winston will be under during this investgative time, Google “The Tricky Calculus Of Drafting Jameis Winston”
It goes along with Joe’s video

  19. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    Keep up the character assassinations.

It will change absolutely nothing on April 30th. Jameis #1 to the Bucs.

Get in or get a new team.

  20. armchairGM Says:

For all of you trade down guys can we just wait to watch the combine, pro days and let teams do their private workouts? For 87 you really should look into becoming Jameis’s publicist or PR guy you would do a hell of a sales job, probably get him commercials, shoe deals and plenty of marketing opportunities. You honestly would!

  21. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Remember when the Eagles took Mike Mamula instead of Warren Sapp bc of Sapp’s character issues? How’d that work out for ’em?

  22. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Architek
Or, he could come here and keep up his act and make the Bucs a laughing stock again

  23. 87ForJameisNOMariota Says:

Mr. Patrick…I’ve already read that. Then of course I read everything Winston daily.

Here’s one thing you might have not noticed though. I’m posting this for you Mr Patrick and a few others to show it’s all in good fun. 🙂

As for the rest of you watch Joe’s video first I don’t want to steal his thunder.

    Sorry. No video links, please.–Joe

  24. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Cream
You are comparing apples to oranges. Sapp had doubters because he smoked a little weed. Winston shows a history and pattern of bad behavior and character issues, plus something as serious as being accused of Rape. Plus, this is the #1 pick in the draft we are talking about, something you don’t take a major chance or risk with

The lawsuit does not include any other details. (USAToday)

  37. Architek Says:

    @patrick
At this point I’m bottomed out and I’m just hoping the kid just need to mature and the infrastructure around him to mature. He doesn’t have the issues that Manziel has so that’s a start but he’s not the character of Mariota but it’s all about winning and being able to be the face of a franchise.

Personally I like the kid’s swagger in the face of adversity!

  38. Barry Says:

It speaks volumes about the character and morals of the people who are promoting Jameis Winston. #Amazing

I like QBs that can throw 4 INTs and still win the game.

  42. ufcguy Says:

Hey didn’t russe wilson throw 4 picks against gb. Guess he sucks too

  43. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ WS99
If the Gators would have had any kind of offense at all FSU would have lost badly

  44. ddneast Says:

Your are correct Patrick, there are no franchise QB’s in this draft but it seems like all the jockeying being done is being done to get closer to Mariota.
Jamie’s is not a rapist, but has some bit character questions and issues. See Joe’s preference for a No. 1 draft pick in 2014, Johnny Manzell.
I doubt if anyone even looks at Winston until the second round because of these issues. That and the fact he isn’t ready to start.
For that reason,if th Browns want to trade both No. 1’s, a two or thir left tackl then I say grab it and run.
Winston will probably still be around by the 12th pick and probably later on as well.

  45. 87HASWOODFORWINSTON Says:

I just hope our center watches all his holes

  46. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’d like to draft the hybrid of the two QBs….Lets call him Marcus Winston…

MW would be NFL ready…..be a fierce leader on the field…..make all the throws with a cannon for an arm….run like a cheetah….and be a boy scout off the field.

Unfortunately, Marcus Winston doesn’t exist…..too bad for us…..have to take a leap of faith either way….

  47. WS99 Says:

    Patrick

If, woulda, coulda, shoulda. Glennon shoulda coulda would 4 out of 5 games IF we had a defense. It all evens itself out.

  48. gatrbuc17 Says:

The Gators had a formidable Defense. If we had ANY semblance of an offense FSU would have lost. But IF……………………………………………..

  49. Mr. Patrick Says:

    WS99
Yep. Folks seem to forget that not only did Glennon gut out that win against the Steelers, he also gave the Bucs a couple of 4th quarter leads that Lovie’s defense gave up

  50. Architek Says:

    Patrick –
GLENNON also missed tons of throws in critical moments including the Steelers game. His ceiling is just not that of Winston or Mariota.

  51. SuperSam Says:

This years Manziel, hell drop like a rock. I don’t see him going in the first 2 rounds. The NFL is cracking down on guys like him, he’s a head case. We traded Mike Williams for waaaaaaay less than what this clown has accomplished.

  52. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Architek
Again, goes to whether the Bucs want to be patient or win now. If the Bucs will be patient they can take one of the QB’s and suffer through his learning process. If they want to win now, they will draft Leonard Williams and start Mike Glennon. But you know Lovie, he may trade for a QB or sign an experienced free . We just don’t know

  53. cmurda Says:

While reflecting on last year’s Buccaneer debacle and the prospects of us getting our crap together. I have 2 words that will make you feel much better. CLEVELAND BROWNS. We are nowhere near the disaster that organization is.

  54. jd Says:

    SuperSam,

I agree with your comparison with Winston’s draft stock to Manziel’s draft stock from last year. I don’t necessarily think Winston will fall 2 rounds, but I completely agree that the NFL has lost its tolerance with players who demonstrate character deficits. It is not worth it to take a player with a pattern of questionable behavior with the number one pick.

YALL ARE JUST HATERS. HATERS GONNA HATE. MY MAN GONNA TAKE DA WORLD BY STORM AND IMA GET PAID!

  56. Tiny Tim Says:

I didn’t know starting Glennon would be a sign that the bucs were trying to win now. Both mariotta and Winston is better than the stork called Glennon. Boy, some of you guys should be doing stand up comedy. It gets no funnier than someone saying win now and Glennon in the same sentence. The funniest thing is he truly believes that crap.

  57. Erik with CleanAthletics.com Says:

Mariota is a potential homerun, Winston is a strikeout. At least we don’t listen to the Joes. Otherwise, we’d have Jonny Rehab or now the Rapist who might not even be in the league in 3 years. Wait til he signs a contract. I wonder how many money-hungry party girls are going to file lawsuits…

  58. ndog Says:

I’ve said it before and I will day it again jameis winston will be better than Andrew Luck. Just as mobile, better arm strength, more accurate, and most important a better leader when the chips are on the table. And keep in mind I would be thrilled to have Luck on my team. These people saying there is no franchise qb just don’t know what one looks like.

  59. 87ForJameisNOMariota Says:

When almost EVERY analyst says the Bucs are taking Winston with the first pick within the next 2 months…THAT’S what usually happens.

Most of them don’t get the first pick wrong.

Maybe the 3rd, 4th or 5th pick in the first, but hardly the first pick.

So in 2 months when every analyst and mock drafter is out there saying the pick is going to be Winston. You can bank on it. Until then, we can just squabble back and forth.

  60. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ndog

Who won more between the two? Who has the stronger arm? See you laugh but never address the facts and that is where you guys are missing the point. If we want to be great we need a qb like winston or luck and this is our chance to get one.

You should listen to the adults that know a lot more about this than you do. Listen and learn

  71. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Start choosing a new team to root for. Jameis to Tampa. Book it.

  72. Lord Cornelius Says:

Manziel’s stock was questionable last year because of his style of on field play. That was a MUCH bigger deal to teams than his off the field antics. Teams were worried that he relied too much of on improvising and made dumb decisions with the football. There were some concerns about how hard he practiced, especially in the weeks that A&M played weaker opponents. When the draft was happening no one was really even talking about his character as much as whether his skills translate.

Winston’s character is the only issue and debate really between NFL pundits. Sure there are some who think his game is more flawed than others; but even those guys have him as a round 1 talent at worst (and probably top 10 talent). Kiper has said he would have been the no brainer talent pick over Clowney last year.

If there is ANYONE who has Winston as a 2nd rounder or later based on the on-the-field ability and talent I’d love to see a link. I’d be surprised if anyone even thought of him as anything worse than a top 5 or 10 talent in this draft.

    ——

    Wow, 87 has a fan club… good job, 87!

I’m glad to see that you’ve went ahead and bypassed being charged, a fair trial, and pretty much anything else under the “innocent until proven guilty” and found Winston guilty in the Court of Your Opinion.

BTW, build the trenches, blah blah blah… How’s that elite LT working out of the Browns? Better yet, the Redskins have had elite LTs for the past 15+ years with Chris Samuels manning the most important line spot followed by Trent Williams…. and they’ve made the playoffs…. once? twice? Does it matter? You’ve gotta have the QB…Peyton Manning made the Super Bowl last season with Ken Clark as his LT… Nate Solder was a late 1st round pick…it is not necessary to have an elite LT to be successful. Oh, and there are definitely no ELITE LTs in this draft…NONE! Good, but not great.

  75. ndog Says:

NYBUCSfan what are going to say if this girl comes out that she is lying? Dude you know he was never even charged right?

  76. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I can only say this. If we draft Jameis #1 and he turns out to NOT be the second coming of Ben Roethlisberger and does NOT get us to the Super Bowl in three years, then there’s going to be incredibly LARGE amounts of crow to eat on this board.

IF we draft Jameis #1 and he gets in trouble off the field and busts because of it some of you will need to eat a lot more than crow.

I’ve never seen such certainty about a prospect when the bust rate for first rounders is 50%!!! The bust rate for former Heisman winners is off the freaking chart. But I know…Jameis will be the exception.

I just don’t know it as certainly as about 3/4’s of the posters here. But then I never went to FSU!!!

  77. IStillbleedOrange Says:

Yes, we remember that Luck played in the PAC 12, against teams like Oregon, Arizona State, Arizona, UCLA, USC, et al.

We also remember (those some of us choose to do so selectively) that Winston played in the ACC, against teams like Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest, NC State, Syracuse, et al.

Comparing Luck with Winston is like comparing a Mustang GT to a Ford Concept car…one is accepted to be a great car…the other isn’t quite there yet, but could be.
