Jason Licht’s 11 Minutes With Steve Duemig

March 12th, 2014

The dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620, had 1-on-1 time with Bucs general manager Jason Licht following the impressive rollout of the Bucs’ new free agent signings at One Buc Palace this evening.

Among the highlights, Licht said there will be competition at defensive tackle: “Akeem Spence has every opportunity to keep his starting job.” The GM also said the Bucs could end up with a “7-to-1” ratio of players by tomorrow when you factor in what they’ll buy with the $16 million Darrelle Revis would have earned in Tampa.

Licht also dives into the Revis negotiations, Lovie’s recruiting skills, starter Josh McCown, and much more. It’s a strong interview. Enjoy!

    7 to 1. Nice.

Lovie and Licht = Real Rock Stars

  2. Buc1987 Says:

    Poor Jason.

  3. pablo Says:

    Lcht > Dom

  4. Rrsrq Says:

Did Collins get out without a contract, though I won’t be mad if Penn is our starting LT, but what about Joseph’s replacement

  5. Snook Says:

Why does it take Duemig like 20 seconds to spit out a question?

    Awful to listen to.

  6. The don Says:

What about the long pause on the mike Williams question. Weird that he hasn’t even talked to him yet. I’m 2 months. Really ?

  7. Glennon2K15 Says:

I can only hope that the McCown situation is only a screen for the draft.

  8. PRBucFan Says:

Licht is one that would definitely chew him up lol

    He can tango

  9. Buc1987 Says:

Not that the fool matters anymore, but I wonder what Dom thinks about all these moves.

Licht has more moves than Jagger.

  10. unbelievable Says:

Yea he doesn’t sound too stoked on Williams. Hopefully the reach out and help him get back on track. When healthy, he is a great asset, especially in what will be a more modern and hopefully powerful offense.

The more I hear Licht speak, the more I like this guy. His attitude and methodology seem to be right on. Only time will tell, but I’m really respecting what this regime is trying to do. I’m still bitter about giving up the draft picks for Revis and then letting him walk, but I guess we all should move on. Really good value signings so far (for the most part).

  11. J 2.0 Says:

McCown is no upgrade over Glennon. The song and dance is all fine and well today but come preseason there will be a 3 way competition for starting QB between Glennon, McCown, and JIMMY GAROPPOLO!!!!!

  12. Drew Says:

The new version 2.0 of Rockstar.

  13. Killian Says:

Why haven’t we heard anything about Tillman?

  14. Glennon2K15 Says:

I watched the McCown highlight reel, and while I noticed he did better on his feet than Glennon, (excluding his fabulous first down run) alot of his passes were into windows on wide receivers with a lot more talent than ours (this time excluding VJ who was double teamed quite a bit). Mikey threw in a lot of close windows with guys like Tim Wright and Tiquan Underwood, not quite Brandon Marshall or Alshon Jeffery

  15. Ep bucfan Says:

Joe any noise on Edelman? Maybe a great option in the slot.

  16. Andrew 1 Says:

you know, I didnt really know how to feel about the signings at first, but I get the feeling our new

  17. BucsBoy28 Says:

What a cool guy. Making moves!!

  18. J 2.0 Says:

Revis New England 1 year $12 million.

  19. Andrew 1 Says:

new regime brought in guys who will have longevity with the bucs and be a part of the reason we get this thing turned around. I’m cautiously optimistic.

  20. Kryq Says:

Yeah any news on Charles Tillman?

  21. Jordan Says:

4 million dollar paycut for revis

  22. stevek (MGM) Says:

    Revis is a Patriot.

  23. Jordan Says:

after this one year deal for 12 million, can you see many teams handing out more than 10 million for a 30 year old CB next year?

  24. P'cola Buc Says:

Revis a Patriot for a less salary ….4 million dollar cut….probably could have signed here for the same amount (12 million)…..what does say to you. Revis did not want to be here in Tampa Bay….Never connected with the city of Tampa or the team…….We want players that want to be part of the team…..not simply a man for hire……Adios Senior Revis……..all the best!

  25. gotbbucs Says:

Mike Williams is as good as gone. If they sign a startng WR in FA you might as well expect him to be cut or traded.

  26. feelthepewterpower Says:

i like the Licht show as the new moniker!

of course…the Browns and Raiders. 🙂

  28. Jon Says:

7 to 1 ??? That doesn’t add up how much was verner? Then add Johnson. Fuzzy math to me but whatever. Just don’t lie

  29. Sqeeky Says:

As Colonel Potter was fond of saying,”Horse Hockey”.

  30. Sapp, STFU Says:

Getting more and more excited as time passes. Revis is looking more like a Gm error that we have to just get over, like hitting a curb with your brand new wheels. Have to move on.
