Patriots 23, Bucs 3

September 22nd, 2013

Outcoached and outplayed, the Bucs fell to 0-3 and proved — again — they’re not sharp enough offensively to win NFL games.

Josh Freeman played like a lower tier NFL quarterback for the third consecutive week. Mike Sullivan didn’t adjust, Davin Joseph had some heinous pass blocking moments, and Doug Martin didn’t dominate the way the Bucs’ hoped.

Please don’t assign major blame to dropped passes. The Bucs dropped three, one by Vincent Jackson, one by Doug Martin and one by (who else?) Kevin Ogletree. A deep, first-half throw seemingly dropped by Jackson was a great pass breakup by Aqib Talib.

Pressure on Tom Brady forced him to miss two touchdown throws to open receivers, and the Tampa Bay defense sacked Brady twice, plus Mark Barron picked him off in the end zone. But when was the last time the Bucs gave up 159 yards on the ground for 5.3 yards a carry.

The Bucs have just three touchdowns through three games, and now Vincent Jackson is hurt and Mike Williams and Gerald McCoy are ailing.

The New Schiano Order is circling the drain. The Bucs have lost eight of their last nine games. There’s no way to spin that.

In the last 5 seasons, #Bucs fans have had to endure TWO 0-7 streaks and a 1-8 streak.

Nice Build Job there, Mark Dominik.

  2. Adam L. Says:

Being a Bucs fan is like watching “Jurassic Park” every Sunday and cheering for the goat.

  3. Raphael Says:

All this talent on both sides of the ball …….. The coaching sucks

    Fire Schiano !

  4. Couch Fan Says:

Another inept offense performances highlighted by our Franchise QB.

  5. Oahubuc Says:

The worthless kicker is the only guy who scored. Let it sink in.

  6. jcorr Says:

I think its time for us to start looking for a new coach.

  7. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Mr.Debartolo, Mr.Saban is on line #3

  8. Patrick Says:

I want Freeman, Dominick and Schiano gone. We need new people running this team and most importantly, a quarterback.

  9. BucsQcCity Says:

I didn’t knew that the no fly zone was for our offense

  10. Doc Says:

Fire Schiano, do not blame anyone but this G.M. THIS COACHING STAFF SUCKS, NO MORE EXCUSES

  11. D-Rome Says:

That anonymous Buccaneer player who last year said these coaches should go back to college was right.

  12. MakaveliTheDon Says:

Let Freeman find success elsewhere. He deserves a fresh start, like Alex Smith in KC.

Schiano needs to go. Sully needs to stem in as the interim and have 100% control of HIS offense. Lets see what he can do with Glennon. Keep the defensive coaching staff.

Sully – Interim HC. Glennon – QB. Shiano – Fired. Sheridan – DC. Freeman – set him free. He doest want to be here. And Tampa doesnt want him here.

  13. PRBucFan Says:

    Who should we draft?

    Bridgewater?
    Manziel?
    Stephen Morris?

  14. MakaveliTheDon Says:

    *step in

  15. Couch Fan Says:

I would jump all over the Fire Schiano band wagon but I dont think its fair to judge him before he has his QB in place. Face it, nobody can win with a Freeman.

  16. JakeG Says:

I’ve always been the first to defend Freeman, but I don’t think I can do it anymore. I think I’ve reached my tipping point. I don’t want to keep having to make excuses for his pedestrian performances every week. I don’t want to keep feeling uneasy whenever he drops back for a pass.

Find a new coach in this offseason and draft a quarterback that fits his system. Trade up if we have to. We have too much talent, and guys like Jackson, Revis, and Nicks aren’t getting any younger. Soon enough, we’re going to have start putting money into resigning our young players on defense. We need to put together an offense now, while we still have the talent.

I just can’t defend Freeman anymore. 2010 just isn’t going to happen again.

Maybe I’m overreacting, but this team is too talented. Get a new coach. Get a new quarterback. Because what we have isn’t working.

  17. bucrightoff Says:

Freeman is at present the worst NFL starting QB. His stats are disgraceful and he’s doing the same things he did at Kansas State. He just stares at receivers. There is no offense in the world that can succeed if the quarterback can’t make reads. I’m not even sure he knows how to look off a safety.

  18. Bucfan#37 Says:

Just UGLY performance. Brady dinked the Bucs into obscurity.

  19. Buc power Says:

I’ve been a buc fan since 1995 but this is crazy something’s gotta give I will not buy another season ticket until it does this is not fair to us fans the glazers just want the money they don’t care about the team unless fans start following through on threats by not coming to the games then they act like they care.

  20. Tony Says:

I think the defense finally got fed up with the offense and realized there was no hope. But hey, at least Freeman was awesome…again

  21. Reezy Says:

When I made the comment that we could have had Mike Glennon in the Fourth round and a better DT in the third, some said that I was wrong. The way we are playing maybe we need a little more pressure up the middle to prevent some of these losses. How the hell can we win games if we can’t get touchdowns.

  22. BucfaninMi Says:

    DONE!!!!!!

  23. canadianbuc Says:

I can’t say that i am a freeman supporter but i just can’t join in with the glennon supporters. He hasn’t shown anything yet. He didn’t look special in pre season and listening to all of the analysts he should not have even been picked that high in the draft or not even drafted. Freeman has looked horrible but i just don’t believe Glennon can win a NFL game. Man is it hard to watch this team. Like someone wrote in the open thread it just looks like we have a hard time doing anything on offense and the opposing team makes it look easy.

  24. BucsQcCity Says:

Freeman does not deserve a fresh start but he will get it anyway.. We should try to get something out of him before next game, he’s losing value quicker than any player in the league

  25. MakaveliTheDon Says:

    PR:

    “Who should we draft?

    Bridgewater?
    Manziel?
    Stephen Morris?”

Really? you want to rebuild for the next few years?? 8 years of rebuilding?? Lets play Glennon out, and if he doesnt work out, find a veteran top 10 QB in the offseason.

But Schiano is a loser. Always has been. He’s lost this team. Couldnt adjust during the half, when Belicheck and Brady adjusted after just 1 quarter.

    Bye Freeman. Bye Schiano.

  26. Couch Fan Says:

3 weeks into the season… 3 losses, 3 weeks of non stop excuses for Freeman’s crappy play.. at least some people are realizing the problem.

  27. PRBucFan Says:

    Schiano can win,

Let him draft his guy and not be stuck with “Rah’s guy” and he’ll be fine.

Get a better offensive system/ simpler with better play calling and we’ll be fine.

You can bet Schiano is not going to go first

  28. Raphael Says:

makaveli..I am inclined to agree with you at this point.. Problem is we have no chance to win with Glennon

  29. Robbie_G Says:

Good lord. The O sucks, toes on the line my ass. Freeman is lost, has been lost, and WILL be lost. The O shows NO signs of turning the corner, even with some VERY good talent. Now V jax is hurt, WTF. This is terrible to watch the D is doing all it can. Ok make a change at QB to TRY something. Oh and I remember getting CRUSHED on here when I said Lindell was done and can NOT make anything, he needs to go.

  30. Capt. Tim Says:

After 6 years of rebuilding, how is it possible that we have
    1) no TE
    2) no slot receiver
    3) no depth at WR
    4) no depth at D-line

Freeman play poorly, again trying to turn into a pocket passer, which he ain’t
Schiano coached like a tiny college coach, over his head badly in the big leagues
This team has some great talent, but our weakest links are horribly bad

We may not win a game.

  31. PRBucFan Says:

Has nothing to do with Glennon,

At this point ANYONE would produce better than that scrub

  32. Anzac Buc Says:

The offense is so poor it left me speechless. PFF have long touted Davin Joseph as one of the most overrated players in football and today proved it. When a Captain on the team cannot perform his assignments its the thin end of the wedge. Talib & Blount played well and are clearly assets to the Pats. The Bucs should have kept them – this season is so disappointing so far, just how long will it be before heads roll? I like Dom, I want to see them winning and succeed, but these 3 games are bullshit and the offense is a disgrace.

  34. Deminion Says:

    Done!!!

  35. MakaveliTheDon Says:

This team needs a fresh direction. New coach, new QB.

Freeman will succeed with a offensive HC. And Shia-oh-no will succeed coaching in the WAC.

  36. Rob Says:

I like Greg but his way obviously won’t work here. Perkins tried discipline and got run out if town. Think Andy Reid could have done more with our talent? Greg will not survive a 10 loss season. Freeman was his usual sub 50% completion self. What an absolute joke of an NFL qb. Great physical specimen but not mentally sharp or able to lead. Season is ruined. Schiano and Dominik will get fired if we lose 10 games. Put Glennon in and see what he can do . Can our qb/offense do any worse ? Nope . If Glennon loses a bunch of games, draft the best qb next draft and start over. Go Bucs!

  37. PRBucFan Says:

Which College QB is our best option next year???

I personally think Stephen Morris will be great in this league.

Beautiful touch and accuracy and can take off with it if he needs to.

  38. bucrightoff Says:

Alex Smith led the NFL in QB rating last year before getting hurt. When has Josh Freeman ever done that? Watch Thursday’s game again and see Alex Smith making multiple reads and progressions. Watch Josh today stare down every throw.

  39. OviedoBucsFan Says:

What Would Mike Martz have done? Marty Schottenheimer? They did interview for the HC job same time as Schiano. Two guys with NFL expirence and we hire a college coach. I just do not understand this.

  40. RichinNC Says:

This team is in trouble. Defense started good yet the offense failed yet again to do anything.

18 or so days till Hockey starts. Atleast the Bolts are playing hard in preseason.

  41. Buc power Says:

@reezy I said the same thing but it was about money bro

  42. Yusef A Taufiq Says:

while today’s game wasn’t all Freeman’s fault, its time for the bucs and him to part ways, you can see that he isn’t all there in the head..deer in the headlights look….i’ve supported Freeman since he came to Tampa…I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he didnt have help on offense….now like many people have said…No more excused J5, you are still making rookie mistakes and still not delivering…I’m officially washing my hands of Freeman…Great guy and hard worker….that’s obviously not the problem…but its time to find greener pastures J5

  43. Splengo Says:

    Couch Fan,

I’m going to call a 12 hour truce in recognition of our injured soldiers who played their hearts out for a losing cause. But tomorrow I’ll have lots to say about you know who. The Rutgers coach who was going to take the NFL to school. Too exhausted and flabbergasted to say what all of you obviously now see.

  44. Uk_Buc Says:

    @buc power

“the glazers just want the money they don’t care about the team unless fans start following through on threats by not coming to the games then they act like they care.”

    Do you have special needs?

  45. MakaveliTheDon Says:

my last defense of Freeman. you remember how he started off putting the ball on the money?? then you saw the drops? then you saw the WRs getting injured?? no TE?? 3 4th down go-for calls (from the HC), one where we were 4th & 13 from the 33, down by 17, where we could have gone for a kick to cut the lead to 14??

no?? you dont remember all that?? bye Schiano!

  46. deathaneers Says:

    I agree 100% canadianbuc!

  47. LUVMYBUCS Says:

We miss your leadership Mr Malcolm Glazer. Things haven’t been the same since your unfortunate stroke in 2006.

    IMHO Time to call
    Edward J. DeBartolo, Jr.

  48. SteveK (MGM) Says:

Did Freeman play well enough to win today? NO.

    Schiano is not the problem.

Dominick and Freeman should walk the plank. Let Schiano and Butch Davis run the show.

    #Butch Davis GM, Schiano HC.

To all the Glennon doubters, it isn’t about what Glennon can do, it is about what Freeman is not doing.

  49. Jerry Says:

He didnt go for the FG on those 4th downs because our kicker sucks.

  50. MakaveliTheDon Says:

“We miss your leadership Mr Malcolm Glazer. Things haven’t been the same since your unfortunate stroke in 2006.”

very true. I love that dude.

  51. Patrick Says:

Makaveli……Bridgewater and Manziel are superstars in college right now. Freeman wasn’t even good in college. That’s the difference!

  52. MakaveliTheDon Says:

“He didnt go for the FG on those 4th downs because our kicker sucks.”

    but doesnt Shia-oh-no preach “trust”????????????

  53. Buc power Says:

@luvmybuc hey you hit it right in the head Malcolm wanted to win his sons don’t give a crap.

  54. rdbucfan Says:

    Canadianbuc

When was Glennon supposed to show something?

2/3 of the guys he played with in the preseason are working blue collar jobs right now.

Are you saying that Josh is so great he would have dominated with those same players when he can’t even dominate with our 1st string offense?

Give Glennon a chance with the 1st string offense before you kick him to the curb. You would rather watch Josh struggle all year than give the rookie a chance?

  55. Pete 422 Says:

This one isn’t on Freeman. A pass in the endzone that should have been caught. Jackson drops a pass over the middle, that if he caught may have scored. There are countless passes that were dropped. The offense didn’t cash in early, which cost them the game.

  56. Patrick Says:

Also, Tom Brady has lost all his weapons and had dropped passes.

Guess what?? He still gets the job done!! He still wins!

That’s what a franchise quarterback is all about! With Freeman, it’s all about making excuses for his poor play.

  57. Jerry Says:

It doesn’t matter…Freemans completion % is under 50% in each game this year. When you have lost 8 of 9 and start 0-3….the starting QB will get the blame.

  58. D-Rome Says:

Freeman, while not all his fault, is currently the worst QB in the NFL. Schiano out coached once again and the Bucs season is over with. I need some TUMS right about now. I ultimately blame Schiano as this team has looked unprepared since the pre-season.

  59. Reezy Says:

    @Buc power
This is ridiculous man I just wish we could build a legitmate team. We have built and bought like never before and we still cant get past Sam Wyche still playcalling. Sucks.

  60. PRBucFan Says:

I think the past few years the younger Glazer’s have tried to right the ship,

They just didn’t account for the total bust that is Free.

I’m pretty excited to see who the draft yield aswell as just finally being able to start over and not see Free every sunday. Even the growing pains of a new QB will still be nice cause at least we are finally moving on and starting the active search to find our guy.

One things for sure, as long as we stick with the wrong guy, we will never find the right guy.

  61. MakaveliTheDon Says:

    Schiano preaches everything he’s not:

“Trust” – he doesnt trust his QB, his kicker

“Accountability” – he never takes full responsibility of his losses

“Buccaneer Men” – he’s a Scarlet Knight man…. how in the hell did Tim Wright make this team? And why was that Rutger DT Gibson, that got injured, why was he starting in the game instead of Spence??

Tick Tock Schiano. we all know Freeman’s gonna get run out of town. But our troubles go wayyyyy beyond him, and most of our problems come back to you.

  62. coolman Says:

I agree with trading or releasing Freeman but Schiano needs to go also find a better offensive minded coach

  63. deathaneers Says:

Im speechless. What happened to a great week of practice! What happened to a prepared team! What happened to a dam GAME plan.

  64. PRBucFan Says:

I’m glad only the owners opinion of Schiano is all that matters

  65. Buc power Says:

@reezy I know same here but it’s not gonna change until the glazers sell man they just do not care their lining their pockets bro this is indeed ridiculous.

  66. OviedoBucsFan Says:

Getting ready to watch the Seahawks-Jags game………..Misery loves Company…….Go Jags.

Hate the thought of us playing these guys (seattle) in their house in the coming months.

  67. MakaveliTheDon Says:

This team was built to be a playoff contender. But the boat started rocking when Schiano wantd to act cute with his remarks on our QB, which fueled the QB controversy that has reached epic proportions.

What was so different about our explosive offense (including Freeman) last year compared to this year. Same OC. Same o-line coach. PJ Fleck got the fucck out. So he brought in McNulty.

I think that with all the HC talk surrounding Sully, Schiano is setting up McNulty to be his OC of the future. And Sully and our WRs, and in turn Freeman, are suffering for it.

  68. Eric Says:

Pretty hard to get in sole last place after three games. But we pulled it off.

Can we get a legit coach and front office please?

1-8 is a freaking expansion team level of performance. Sickening.

  69. ctord Says:

Agree Joe, this is what I was saying all year so far. The expectations were very high coming into the season. A stocked cupboard, a second year coach, and young talented players that have been around long enough to know HOW to win games. The game was over after the missed field goal and if you still had hope, as I did, the game was really over when the bucs did not score a td in the red zone. The bucs can not rebuild, they have gone too far, but they should examine areas of concern. GM, Coaching, and Qb. And everyone stop with Sullivan for coach. Play calling is not creative, does not adjust, and worst of all does not work. Just awful so far. Sorry but I love the bucs and Sundays are killing me. These are not comments I wanted to make this year.

  70. Illuminati Says:

    @JakeG

I don’t want to keep having to make excuses for his pedestrian performances every week.

Pedestrian performance? Freeman aspires to be pedestrian. Pedestrian would be 50 percent completions and a QB rating of 80, with an equal number of TDs and picks. He has yet to turn in a QB rating over 70 this year, or hit 50 percent completions, and he has thrown more picks than TDs.

This is Freeman’s eighth consecutive regular-season game not even hitting an 80 QB rating. It’s also his eighth straight game not hitting 60 percent pass completions. In those last eight games, he’s thrown 13 picks to only eight TDs.

The Freeman era needs to end now. Don’t wait for the bye week. Start Glennon at home against the Cardinals, then you have two weeks to evaluate and adjust, then another winnable home game against the Eagles, then another week to evaluate and adjust before we go on the road to face the Falcons.

  71. Couch Fan Says:

    @PRBucFan

Couldn’t of said it better myself. I just want to end the Freeman experiment and get on to the future.

I will acknowledge that Schiano deserves as much criticism as Freeman. Personally I am not giving up on him after just 3 games into his 2nd season. There is no doubt though that he needs to get better.

  72. deathaneers Says:

    19 of 41 for Freeman….WoW, Need I say more

  73. Jerry Says:

Certainly time to move on from the Freeman era. He’s done.

Is it 100% his fault? No. But enough of it is.

  74. Architek Says:

This is the text dictionary for failure in all aspects; get rid of the coach, the qb and the GM next year – this has become a negative franchise.

  75. BucsAblunder Says:

Josh Freeman won’t even be a backup QB in the NFL in three years. Would you sign him to a contract as a starting QB if you were an owner after watching tape of his last 4+ years?

  76. B.D Says:

trade to the redskins for cousins

  77. B.D Says:

not freeman ,make a trade to the skins ( draft picks ) but they are welcome to freeman also

  78. rdbucfan Says:

All of you Freeman supporters did nothing but complain about running on 3rd down at the end of the first 2 games because Schiano would not put the game in Freeman’s hands. When he does he is a horrible coach. I believe your support for Freeman was not really supporting him but more of supporting the only thing he is good at. Which is coach killing, you are not necessarily for Freeman but against Schiano.

Free the offense by Freeing the offense of Freeman.

  79. Adam L. Says:

4 times in 19 games, Schiano has figured out how GIVE points to the other team at the end of a half. FOUR TIMES.

I’m sorry. I saw enough of Raheem to know a bad coach when I see one.

I really was a Schiano fan and wanted it to work, but, as Michael Corleone said in “GODFATHER I” “(He isn’t) a war-time consigliere.”

He’s gotta go. And Dominik should have ALREADY been gone.

  80. oldfart Says:

I saw 5 drops today. Why was Adrian Clayborn coverning the WR on the first touchdown? Rather than try the 1st missed FG, why did the Bucs not go on first down when they were driving? Why spend this kind of money on free agents and hire this head coach? The Bucs must develop a system that reflects Freeman’s strengths rather than trying to force him to be something he is not.

  81. rdbucfan Says:

Adam how are Josh’s poor decisions/passes a knock on Schiano.

I guess you believe the Bucs should fire Schiano and sign Freeman to a long term deal so he can get another coach fired.

Free the offense by Freeing the offense of Freeman.

  82. Sheen Says:

This team still needs to learn how to win. Got the talent, lack the drive, faith and discipline necessary. Guys need to start making plays when it matters and stop making mistakes when it matters. Coach was obviously looking for some kinda spark by going for it on those 2 first 4th downs…no one delivered. Schiano has done some good things, but somethings obviously missing.

  83. Ty Says:

To all the Glennon supporters…he sucks..he was a wasted pick..the reason he wasn’t put in today is because schiano doesn’t trust him either and knows that if he plays he will be an embarrassment to a third rd pick…schiano keeps starting trouble then “watchin tape” he is a college coach at best…the players don’t believe in him and he has made wrong decisions…freeman has talent and if he was throwing to a descent te today..it would have been a td..ogletree is a waste of time underwood should be back..and if Lindell is there next week I’ll be really laughing…I am a buc fan through and through…but schiano is not buc football

  84. MakaveliTheDon Says:

    Couch:

“I will acknowledge that Schiano deserves as much criticism as Freeman.”

wow Couch. I actually gained a little bit of respect for you by not solely blaming Freeman.

  85. SacBucs Says:

    Fricking flip floppers

  86. Rob Says:

Alot of us in Tampa were taken in because of Schiano’s success against USF. Problem was that Jim Leavitt may have been the only game day coach worse than Schiano. Schiano…for a “detail guy is an abysmal game day coach.

Unlike Dungy, Raheem and to a certain extent Gruden, when things went bad, there were always players coming to their coaches defense. What player has come out defending Schiano. Revis tweeting everything is cool doesbn’t count. Answer: No player is coming to this guy’s defense. There is a great deal of guaranteed money on both sides of the ball. All the players can’t be fired. The coach can be.

While I’m usually not in favor of firing a coach in the middle of the year, it cou;ld be the shot in the arm the players need. I’d fire Schiano tomorrow morning and send Sheridan packing with him (Why is Darelle Revis making $1 million per game to play zone?). I’d make Sullivan interim coach and have either Wannstedt or Butch Davis run the defense.

See what plays out the remainder of the year, draft a QB and sign a veteran back up.
