Thank Yous Inspire Glazer

June 29th, 2013

After dirtbags thieved loads of football equipment from a youth club in east Tampa recently, the Buccaneers stepped up this week to hand over $15,000 to replace the kids’ football equipment, jerseys, etc.

It’s noteworthy, but it’s not noteworthy, because Team Glazer has the Buccaneers do this kind of stuff all the time.

After $100,000 was coughed up to build a fancy community field in Clearwater this spring, Joe asked Bryan Glazer about what sort of impact this community work has had on him personally over the past 18 years. Glazer said the words of appreciation he receives are inspiring.

“What’s meaningful to me is when I get a letter, or someone stops me on the street, or someone walks up to me and says, ‘Thank you for doing this. Thank you for doing that,'” Glazer said. “And it’s for [as little as] a teddy bear for the hospital, or a football field, or a thousand things in between. The people who take the time to do that, to come up to or write that letter, that is tremendous to me.”

Below is a TBO.com video that tells the story of the Bucs’ most recent gift, and the clinic they ran for the kids who were victimized. (Joe’s glad to see that Michael Smith was activated.)

    Yeah, giving away tax write-off money has to be more fun, than say , giving your wife your blessing to use your 20k gold mastercard. … 🙂

    Just because something helps on your tax return, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t mean it’s free money. Ask yourself, if the Glazers kept the $15K for the kids, how much of it would they keep in their pockets versus how much is a “write off.” You’ll see that it is real generosity.

    @Vic

    I don’t have a problem with Bryan giving it to charity. Much rather charities get some before the IRS. I was just stating what is fact. Try letting your wife go berserk with your gold credit card and you’ll get my drift. I donate to charities all the time, and I also am very familiar with the 8283 tax form. Trust me, if given a choice, you too would appreciate donating first.

    Joe thanks for posting this story.

    Too many times good gestures go unnoticed and we only hear the bad/sensational news. The Glazer’s don’t have to give their hard earned money to anyone, tax right off or not. It warms my heart to see the Glazer’s and the Bucs are doing what they can to help the community. If more people acted this way, the world would be a much better place.

    Thank you Glazer Family and the Bucs!
