Stroughter Officially No. 3

September 11th, 2009

No huge surprise to hardcore Bucs fans. But now it’s official who will be the No. 3 receiver on opening day: rookie Sammie Stroughter.

Raheem The Dream broke the news on 620 WDAE-AM this evening during the Buccaneer Radio Networks get-fired-up-for-the-season show, hosted by Scott Ledger.

Stroughter’s going to have a tough task playing in the slot in his first game. It’s a rough spot for any rookie.

Joe just hopes he can fight back the nerves, keep his routes crisp and make sure nobody takes his head off.

A few big third-down catches would be fantastic, too.

Having a rookie seventh-rounder as No. 3 receiver will surely be more fuel for the national pundits who think the Bucs are the worst team in the NFL. But Joe thinks those national guys largely are a bunch of ill-informed boobs.

Without being asked, Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said he was impressed by Stroughter.  Joe likes Stroughter, too.

Joe – hats off to you for first introducing Sammy to your readers with your excusive interview way back when. You were right on the money about Sammys heart and overcoming those setbacks. I only wish that Sears would take note.

Put this feather in your cap Joe – you earned this one!

Sadly, with Clayton’s hamstring and a complete no show from Bryant in the preseason. Stroughter could arguable be our number one receiver for the Dallas game.
