Talib Close to Suspension, Stardom

May 27th, 2009

Joe often listens to Alex Marvez, who is employed by FoxSports.com, during his weekly appearances on Sirius NFL Radio.

Ah, the life Joe leads: Watching NFL Network in the evening, listening to NFL Radio (along with the King of All Media, Howard Stern) much of the day and dreaming of a select Bucs cheerleader at night.

Anyway, Marvez weighed on the idiotic stunt pulled by Bucs helmet-wielding cornerback Aqib Talib last week. Marvez suggests the second-year Bucs cornerback is at a crossroads of his NFL career.

Tampa Bay cornerback Aqib Talib inadvertently clocking one of his teammates (cornerback Torrie Cox) during an altercation with Buccaneers left tackle Donald Penn last week during an OTA session. Using a helmet as a weapon is considered taboo among players. Hitting a player trying to break up a skirmish is even worse, as Cox required stitches for a cut on his face. The Bucs are believed to have fined Talib but a suspension may be forthcoming if there is another incident involving the team’s 2008 first-round draft pick. Talib already brawled with a Bucs teammate during last year’s rookie symposium. Talib can be an NFL star with Tampa Bay shifting to a press-coverage scheme but he must mature and learn to keep his temper in check.

Joe has written it before and will write it again: What Talib did last week was nothing short of an assault, pure and simple. And just what kind of mental midget actually removes his helmet during a football fight?
