Crows Only Worried About GMC

October 14th, 2014
gmc 1014

GMC explained he was a marked man Sunday.

In his postgame eulogy Sunday, Bucs coach Lovie Smith dropped a line that implied the Bucs simply don’t have the horses to do battle with the big boys of the NFL. That’s not a far-fetched notion, the way the Bucs have been alley-beaten.

When Bucs stud defensive tackle held court after the game, he said the Crows attacked him like they didn’t give a damn about any other player on the Bucs defensive line.

It sure seemed, from what GMC said, the only goal of the Crows ‘offensive line was to take out GMC each and every play.

“A lot of times, they just blocked it well,” GMC said. “They found me. Definitely. I mean, they would even switch protections while we were in our stance. I mean, I tried to move sides — it didn’t matter. They definitely found a way to neutralize me. The one time they let me go free, the back cut me. They just blocked well and had a great gameplan. They did a lot of double-teaming. They blocked it up well.

“I mean once, I got doubled on a screen. Who gets doubled on a screen?”

Another element to negate GMC (and fully take defensive end Michael Johnson out of the game) was Crows quarterback Joe Flacco would roll slightly to his right on his three-step drop, a maneuver the Bucs never could answer, thus floating away from GMC and Johnson.

Joe cannot remember the last time a Bucs team was so thoroughly outcoached on both sides of the ball, especially on the defensive side of the ball, where the Bucs are led by a thought-to-be defensive wizard.

    Sounds like to me that the Ravens Offense line coach figured out how to adapt his “scheme” to the bucs pass rush.
    Doesn’t it?

  2. bucrightoff Says:

    Without GMC it’s probably one of the 5 worst defensive lines in football. GMC has never had any players outside Bennett who actually helped him on the line. Wasting his considerable talent.

  3. RastaMon Says:

    Well then…that leaves a weakness in the OL….Frazier….exploit what the OL gives up doubling up on McCoy….

  4. HawaiianBuc Says:

    Yet so many fans have foolishly suggested that we should trade McCoy? No matter how much you try to explain the reasoning, I will never understand why you would get rid of one of your 2 elite players. Oh yeah, so we can get picks, because we all know how great we draft right?

  5. ToesOnTheLine Says:

    Bye week comes at a perfect time. I’m as p!ssed off at the coaches and some of the players as anyone, but the reality is the NFC South seems bad all around. Someone could win it at 9-7? Granted nothing we’ve seen out of Lovie’s Bucs so far would indicate this team will win 9 games in 2 seasons, but it is a glass is half full scenario to keep me from checking out too early

  6. stevek Says:

    Hawaiian,

    Who said we should trade GMC?

    I don’t think GMC’s cap number should go up next year, should he be resigned. His stats are fantastic, but the Bucs D-Line has zero sacks the last two weeks.

    It’s not working with GMC, I hope he stays, but he is not worth $15mm per.

  7. ToesOnTheLine Says:

    Agree Hawaiian. McCoy is a keeper if the team is serious about trying to eventually be a winner

  8. warrenfb12 Says:

    Eh,

    I dont want to hear that excuse from Lovie. He shouldnt have evaluated Michael Johnson as our savior at DE and payed him like a stud. That kinda makes you look like an a$$hole when you turn around and say our D-line cant hang with the big boys.

    It’s one of the 5 worst WITH GMC!

  10. abdominal snowman Says:

    Out coached indeed. Why on earth can fans see what coaches can’t with pictures and film on the field. If he rolls right you blitz right, send LVD or leonard or Barron on a blitz. The 4 man rush was neutralized and the few times we did blitz it was right up the friggin middle. You can only bash your head on a wall so many times before you realise it hurts and stop. Are we that numb or stubborn in our ways that we can’t add in a wrinkle or 2 mid game??

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Resign Demps….teach him to tackle….put him on the outside and use him to blitz on every play……speed in space!!!

  12. FLBoyInDallas Says:

    When you only have two or three good players on defense it’s easy to neutralize them. How do you solve it? Get more good players…something this franchise seems utterly incapable of doing. I’ve never seen a player personnel parade of ineptitude that lasted this many consecutive years by any other team in the league. What a laughingstock of “talent evaluation”.

  13. abdominal snowman Says:

    We’re not in top 5 worst DL but with the expectations it certainly feels like it. I think most of us felt like we could be in top 10 or at least top 20.

  14. BucBob1 Says:

    It’s becoming more and more evident, that this regime can’t evaluate talent, nor can it hire the right coaches. It’s also becoming more evident that Lovie Smith is way in over his head and doesn’t have a clue how to fix it.

  15. Andrew 1 Says:

    I said after the game that I was pissed at our players more than anything because of their lack of effort, and Becht seemed to acknowledge that in your last post as well. They didnt show up to play, it’s as simple as that. I hope they are so f’ing embarrassed for the way they just nonchalantly went about how they played in the first half. And if their not, I hope they get embarrassed again.

  16. Andrew 1 Says:

    My bad, that was Dave Moore not Becht.

  17. Louis Friend Says:

    For those of you who think it’s a guarantee that McCoy will be a Buc next year – don’t be so sure. He has every incentive to go ahead and let the Bucs franchise him. However any time can sign him away for the price of 2 first round picks. For a team like the Patriots or Colts, who draft low typically, it’d be an easy price to pay to have a potential hall of fame player come to their team. I’d just say don’t be so sure we’ve got him locked up. It’s not a guarantee at all.

  18. Louis Friend Says:

    BTW – for those who think the Bucs would have to match any offer – would they match ANY offer?

  19. iamkingsu Says:

    Trade McCoy because I doubt he’ll be anywhere but Dallas next year unless he’s one of those rare players that likes to see things through. But who would blame him if he left? It’s some quality d lineman coming out this year. Whatever we do don’t go out and waste money on a free agent like we always do

  20. PanthersSuck! Says:

    Maybe we should try some stunts?

  21. iamkingsu Says:

    Nevermind I forgot about the franchise tag. Disreguard everything I said. Thank you owners for that because thats the only way he’s staying

  22. CB Buc Says:

    YOU CANNOT TRADE HIM!
    he’s in the final 10 games of his contract and (a) no contending team has the cap room (b) no team will give you a 1 for 7-8 games.

    He’ll be.franchised but then you have to decide what he’s worth to THIS team.

    Right now he’s worthless because he is being neutralized.

  23. jb Says:

    It’s funny how other coaches gameplan well, while we look like we’re in our first week of training camp…….EVERY WEEK! Lovie should be ashamed of what he & his coaching staff throw out there every Sunday…….or Thursday.

  24. OB Says:

    Joe

    It is obvious that the defensive genius coaches have lost their magic wand and need something to get it up.

    I too am concerned about keeping GMC and LVD but hopefully they are the standup guys they seem to be and will stay here to build a winner but we will need the leaders to do it. I don’t think we have the coaching to do it since he still thinks that McCown should be the starter and the defense is like the French defense in WWII.

  25. buctebow Says:

    This is what I think…we all know our linebackers can’t cover receivers for diddly anyway, so why not send them on a blitz?

  26. andres Says:

    His demeanor to me is screaming, “I’m out of here next year so who cares”.

  27. Ray Rice Says:

    I dont give a FUK who keys on you Gerald. Bottom line is you got to win those battles. All these excuses aren’t cutting it. Yes you are our best DL and they key on you but other teams have the same problem. JJ Watt is by far the best DL on his team. No help. You dont think they key on him? He still gets the job done as a “Marked” man. Why??? Because he’s FUKN great and has the heart Gerald. Gerald=Booger Mcfarland. Not even close to Sapp status.

  28. HawaiianBuc Says:

    I realize he’s not really tradable, but there are still fans screaming for it. As for him not being worth $15M, I disagree. When you are the best in the league at your position, you are worth that. Most good teams have a QB making that kind of money. We don’t have a QB making or deserving of that kind of money, and we won’t be getting one anytime soon. Would you rather continue to sit under the cap and not have McCoy? I don’t follow that logic. I’d rather get rid of guys not earning their money (Goldson, Collins, etc.) than worry about the guys that are worth it. A lot of people said Revis wasn’t worth it. How’s that working out for us? You don’t think he would be able to defend a slant (because we know damn well nobody on our team can defend it). If it costs $16M to defend a slant, I consider that money well spent. The solution to our problems is to gain good players, not get rid of the ones we already have. I promise you, if you know how to work the cap, you can afford the players you want. Look no further than Denver. It’s just a matter of getting the right guys, and not overpaying guys who don’t fit with what we do.

  29. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @Ray Rice,

    You can’t compare McCoy to Watt. Watt plays in a 3-4, and he plays all over the line. McCoy is going to line up inside no matter what, so he’s a lot easier to key on. Besides, Watt is maybe the best to EVER play at his position. He’s seriously that good. Aside from him, I don’t know anyone that can beat triple teams play in and play out. Not to mention that he gets held play after play, and rarely gets the call.

    I don’t think he’s Sapp, but Sapp had more help. McCoy has nothing. I can’t believe that these are the best ends we could find. They are HORRIBLE. They’re not even close to the QB – ever! Might as well put me or you out there, because it would have the exact same effect. Aside from McCoy, we have the absolute worst pass rushers I’ve ever seen. I’m telling you right now, if we get rid of McCoy, he will be a MVP candidate year in and year out. Mark my words (I just hope we never find that out).

  30. stevek Says:

    What makes GMC the highest paid D-Lineman in the game? Watt is better, and is also a “marked man”.

    I don’t see a point in resigning GMC, as our entire D-Line is terrible. How do we justify handing out the richest contract in the league for a DT, only to have a craptacular line with crap results.

  31. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    “I will never understand why you would get rid of one of your 2 elite players.”

    Well you just damned GMAC with faint praise. One of two elite players on THIS team. BFD!!!

    But the short answer is Tony Dungy’s preaching of the greatest ability..AVAILability. GMAC is in his fifth year. He’s only started all 16 games in two of those years. It doesn’t matter how good he might be if he’s not on the field. It’s a ton of money to spend on a player who might be great when he shows up, but has difficulty staying healthy.

    In addition on a defense needing some “toughness” GMAC is simply a nice guy. He doesn’t have a mean streak in him. He helping Raven runners up off the ground in the 2nd half. He hasn’t made any players next to him better. We saw what Geno Atkins did for Michael Johnson…was it Atkins or the Bengal’s coaching staff?

    I’m not suggesting I’m going to be upset if we dump boatloads of cash on a frequently injured player who seems to disappear at important times. I am suggesting that he’s not an absolute slam dunk. It’s a LOT of money to tie up for how much production? Just askin?

  32. Buc1987 Says:

    I’ll say it again and again. Warren Sapp took over games. Has Gerald McCoy taken over any games yet?

  33. HawaiianBuc Says:

    First of all, the often hurt thing is silly. The first two years he had freakish injuries with no lasting implications. He didn’t hurt a leg, knee, neck, etc. He missed one game (on a short week) with a broken hand. I promise you his bones aren’t soft. Sapp missed a game on a regular week with a broken hand. I sat third row and I could hear him screaming in pain several times coming off the field. He’s playing hurt, but he’s still getting criticized. Injuries happen in this league. Everyone can’t be Ronde or Brooks. Calvin Johnson has been hurt a lot through his career. Anybody NOT want him on our team?

    As for him not taking over games, I guess I just have to keep repeating myself. HE DOESN’T HAVE HELP!!!! When there is only one guy on the line making any sort of a threat to the QB, guess what the OL is going to do? This is why you often see him dominate early, then he goes quiet. Teams make an easy adjustment to neutralize him (by not worrying about anyone else and adding an extra blocker). Besides, if pressure is coming up the middle but not from the outside, all a QB has to do is step to the side and he has another clean pocket.

    But you know what, those of you who think we should get rid of him will be sorry. You are probably the same ones happy we got rid of Revis. He wasn’t worth it either, and he didn’t take over games. By the way, how is he doing in New England? But yeah, we got Johnson, Verner, and Collins for him, so that was fantastic. I can’t wait to see which 3 studs we bring in for McCoy.

  34. Buc1987 Says:

    Warren Sapp took over games before Simeon Rice arrived.

  35. stevek Says:

    Hawaiian,

    How much more sorry can the Buc fans be? If we lose GMC, do you think we will actually get worse?

  36. HawaiianBuc Says:

    Unfortunately, the mentality of some of you fans is the exact same mentality our team has had over the years. Let’s get rid of guys like Revis, Bennett, McCoy, etc. because they are going to demand too much money. We can bargain shop and get cheaper “diamonds in the rough”. Never mind the fact that we sit way under the cap year in and year out, so money isn’t even an issue. We just don’t want to overpay for great guys, we much prefer to overpay for mediocre guys.

  37. stevek Says:

    Warren Sapp is the best Under Tackle in NFL History. GMC is not on his level, not even close.

    Warren Sapp had a lot of dog in him to, but GMC is just a heckuva nice guy with elite get off on the snap.

    Where will GMC be able to go, and get paid like his being paid here? No where. Sorry, JJ Watt is the best D-Lineman in the game, and GMC is not worthy of such a pay day.

    I hope we can resign GMC, but for the right price only. How does GMC expect to get “help”, if we are stuck paying him $15mm per year without 10 sacks.

  38. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @steveK,

    That’s not the point. If we have any hopes of one day being better, we need to keep the few great players we have. Is having McCoy this year going to make a difference – probably not. But having McCoy in a year or two once we (hopefully) have other pieces around him will absolutely make a difference. McCoy is a perennial All-Pro. Those don’t grow on trees. No 3 technique is going to win game by themselves, but when they have good players around them, they can absolutely dominate a game. You build around McCoy, you don’t take away a franchise player and start over. Why would you get rid of a great player, only to have to go out and find another??? I’m not following the logic.

  39. Buc1987 Says:

    I’m not saying get rid of him. I’m saying he will never be “elite” like Sapp. It bothers me when people try and compare him to Sapp.

    Sapp was worth every penny they gave him….

  40. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @stevek,

    You are out of your mind. He’s a nice guy off the field and after the whistle, but he’s not a nice guy between the whistles.

    As for him going elsewhere and getting paid like here, you are crazy. He will absolutely get his money. I promise you that. People said Revis wouldn’t get his money either.

    First of all, I don’t know where you’ve seen $15M per year, but I’m just going with that number. You do realize the cap is going way up right? Do you also realize that most teams pay their QB’s like that don’t you? Even if we draft the next great QB, we are 5 years away from having to pay him like that. So what should we do with that money, just leave it in the hands of the Glazers? Should we sign more mediocre free agents? What should we do? We aren’t in this situation because we don’t have enough money, we are in this situation because we can’t draft, nor can we scout free agents. Money isn’t the problem. So who really gives 2 Sh!ts how much GMC is really worth? Losing him will just set us back further than what we already are. Even at $15, he will not put us in a bad situation for money. Get that out of your head. But you go ahead and keep shopping for value, because that’s been working out for us so well.

  41. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @1987,

    I really give up with you. You’re just refusing to even acknowledge the fact that he has no help. Talk to a football guy and ask if a 3 technique needs some help. Go ahead and tweet Steve White and ask him. He always responds. But of course you won’t do that, because you would rather keep repeating yourself than listen to people who actually know what they are talking about. Sapp himself has said he is more talented than him. But no, he hasn’t taken over games, so he must not be as good. He’s not an arse hole, so he must not be good. You got it all figured out.

  42. HawaiianBuc Says:

    He’s already elite. Believe me, everyone in the league knows about McCoy. Listen to what other coaches and players say about him. Is he Sapp? Not yet. Certainly he will never have Sapp’s production until he has Sapp’s supporting cast.

  43. DB55 Says:

    Hawaii

    The craziest thing happened to me today I was at the grocery store and this lady fell down and out of nowhere GMC showed up and helped her off the ground. it was amazing! Like superman.

  44. Buc1987 Says:

    HawaiianBuc….I said Glennon had no supporting cast last season and that was called an excuse by a few people. I’m pretty sure, not 100%, but you were one of those people.

  45. HawaiianBuc Says:

    LMAO

  46. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @1987,

    Two things: First of all, so why the double standard? Are you saying you were wrong? Second, I didn’t say he had no excuses. He had nothing, and I never disagreed with that. My beef with Glennon has always been that I don’t think he can ever be elite. I still stand by that. He is considerably better than I thought, and I believe that on the right team, he can be a very good QB. I just don’t think our team is anywhere near good enough. That’s really not a knock on him at all. I don’t think Matt Ryan would do squat with this team either. It would take a Rodgers, Brady, Manning, etc. to do that. Believe it or not, McCoy is already an elite player. He may not be Sapp, but nobody will ever be Sapp. That’s like saying I wouldn’t want Kevin Durant on my team because he’s not as good as MJ. That’s plain stupid.

  47. DB55 Says:

    Seriously though last night I watched the cowboy Seattle game and I was sitting there in amazement. Cowboys have absolutely no name stars on their defense other than Milton from the Bears and McClain who was out of football. These dudes covered the seam, pressured the quarterback, they covered the receivers, just a great showing. go figure Rod Marinelli

  48. Buc1987 Says:

    Would you agree that Sapp got to the QB without a supporting cast?

    I’m not saying he needs to be like Warren. I’m saying he shouldn’t be paid like Sapp was.

  49. DB55 Says:

    I wish we would have drafted aaron Donald. He would have provided great depth and if mccoy leaves we’d have another great 3tech to mold. Donald had a goal line stand at the 1 and a TFL on 4&1. Big plays, something gmc has been lacking this year.

  50. Buc1987 Says:

    Whatever…just build around him then in his 5th season. They tried that this season, perhaps they’ll get it right next season. I’m not holding my breath.
    Pay the man is 15 million even though he STILL won’t have any supporting cast next season as well. Hell it’s not my money. Pay the guy who can’t do squat without a supporting cast. See how well it goes next year.

  51. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @1987,

    No, absolutely not. Sapp himself has said such. We NEVER had this little help from the ends. I’m telling you, I’ve never seen a weaker bunch of ends on any team at any time. Stylez White would be our best pass rusher on this team- TODAY!

    And again, why do you care about how much McCoy gets paid? What does that matter? Is it coming out of your pockets? We are sitting WAY under the cap – AGAIN. Money isn’t the problem. Please explain yourself, because this is the one thing I don’t understand. So let’s just say we get rid of McCoy, who takes his place? Who do you want to bring in? You want to draft a DT with our first pick and wait for him to (maybe) develop? Do you want to get one in free agency? Which one? On a team with a million holes, why create another one? Just so we get good value? Huh?

  52. HawaiianBuc Says:

    I just don’t follow the logic of why you get rid of a good player on a bad team. I’ll never understand it. Especially on a team like us that can’t draft. I’d rather be a bad team with McCoy than a bad team without him. I sure as hell don’t want more money in the hands of the Glazers.

  53. stevek Says:

    Hawaiian,

    Apples to Oranges in your Kevin Durant to MJ comparison. Durant has been to the playoffs and won scoring titles.

    GMC has graded out well on PFF, but is not the most productive D-Lineman or one of the most productive D-Linemen in the NFL.

    Is he elite? Maybe, but he is not dominant.

    Playoffs, sacks, and team Defense can all make a case for a dominant D-Linemen. Not giving up 5 passing TDs in the shortest amount of time EVER in the NFL, or being the 1st home team in the NFL down 38 points at halftime.

  54. Buc1987 Says:

    I just said I don’t care. Pay the man. Maybe he will be worth it maybe he won’t. I’m not banking on it panning out though. Your right who do they get that’s better? So let’s just give him “elite” type money on a maybe. Works for me. I don’t care anymore. Sign Mr Magoo to start at QB for all I care anymore.

  55. HawaiianBuc Says:

    You can’t judge productivity off of stats without any sort of a supporting cast. You can twist things around all you want to make your point, but the fact is EVERY team in the NFL would LOVE to have him..

    But you know what, that’s fine. Let’s get rid of him because he wants too much money. Let’s add 3-technique to our list of needs in the offseason. Hopefully the Glazers will take GMC’s money and build us some swimming pools in the stadium. Let’s just quit trying to win, and while we are at it, let’s get rid of David, V-Jax, and Evans too. Hell, since we have no weapons for him, let’s get rid of Glennon too. Let’s just get rid of the whole damn team who makes more money than we think they should.

  56. HawaiianBuc Says:

    He’s already worth it and he’s already elite, period.

  57. Buc1987 Says:

    “Hopefully the Glazers will take GMC’s money and build us some swimming pools in the stadium.”

    Bingo I’ll take it. Finally some fun at Ray Jay. I’ll bring the beach ball.

  58. Ray Rice Says:

    @Hawaiian

    I understand what you say. Yes our ends are really tough to watch. Where’s Teo-Nesheim when you need him. Watt moves all over the line but that doesn’t mean they aren’t keying on him. Trust me every team knows where he is at at all times. Gerald said himself that he moves to get away from the OL scheme as well. Watt has no help either. Watt gets sacks from the inside too. Im just tired of all the excuses made for Gerald. Watt and Gerald are considered the best DL in the league. So you compare the best with the best. Who do you want to compare Gerald with? Fairley, Atkins, Suh, Smith, etc… Nope!

  59. Ray Rice Says:

    I dont want to get rid of Gerald. We are better off with than without. But lets not break the bank either. He is not worth that top $ (JJ Watt $). Not when we have so many other holes to fill. If we cash him out he probably won’t even be here by the time this team becomes a winner. We will be so cap strapped later that we won’t have enough to compete. Im not judging Gerald solely on sacks but overall impact and performance. And right now he’s selling and im not buying. Period!

  60. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @Ray Rice

    I admit McCoy isn’t Watt. Nobody is. The best defensive player I’ve ever seen play is Lawrence Taylor, but I’m starting to think Watt is even better. Watt can play any position on the line, whereas McCoy cannot. That being said, Watt has zero chance of being a Buccaneer. McCoy, however, can and should stay one for a long time. If that means we pay him as much as Watt, so be it. I don’t think that’s even going to be the case though.

  61. HawaiianBuc Says:

    Signing McCoy to a big deal isn’t going to strap us for cash. Besides, the cap is about to go way up. Good teams find a way anyway. Everyone said the Ravens were done when the paid Flacco. I don’t know about you, but they looked pretty freaking okay to me on Sunday. The Broncos seem to be fine with their cap, and they are paying a ton of players big money.

  62. Ray Rice Says:

    @Hawaiian

    The Broncos and Ravens may be ok cap wise for now. I was talking about the future. We are at a point where we have to think if we will be a winner soon and still have Gerald in his prime. It wont do us any good to have Gerald in his prime and be garbage. That would be a waste.Hell no I don’t want to lose him. But there comes a time in the game where you have to do it on your own. No matter what.

  63. "TheKevin" Says:

    @everyone

    Absolutely trade Gerald McCoy

    No reason he should have to waste his best years playing for a perennial failure year in and year out.

    Go somewhere where you can win and make the playoffs. This place is a shiiiiiiiiiiittttt hole. And will be because that’s all the bucs know is crap. It’s what they are good at. Except for a few fluke years and lucked up with a Super Bowl.

    Other than a few good years no one can argue the fact that it’s a pile of crap franchise.

    So yes trade McCoy for his own sake!!!!!

  64. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @Ray Rice,

    I’m also talking about the future. At no point is it going to make us strapped for cash. The cap is only going to continue to go up. We won’t have a QB making real QB money for at least 5 years. I’m not going to look beyond 5 years, and neither should you. We are sitting so far under the cap year in and year out. Who else are we going to sign that’s going to put us all of a sudden over it? We could sign McCoy, David, and a couple big time free agents to big deals and still have enough money, if we know what we are doing. The problem isn’t the great players, it’s the mediocre ones making great player money. We’ve got several of them on the team right now, and a ton more in our history.

  65. HawaiianBuc Says:

    “Lucked up” with a Super Bowl? You, my friend, are a complete tool.

  66. Ray Rice Says:

    @Hawaiian

    Better decisions need to be made for sure. But my question is… is it worth going all in with Gerald if we are still 5 yrs away from having a perennial winner. Who knows how long it would take. Lovie had Tank Johnson, Henry Melton, Tommy Harris, etc… thrive in that role. He didnt have great edge rushers. His LB’s were studs and his secondary sound and aggressive. So how much is Gerald needed?

  67. "TheKevin" Says:

    @hawiaan

    Come on man you know what I meant.

    Trash before and trash after. Could be called luck!!

    Of course they had great players,drafts,coaching. Yada Yada. I understand all that but be real. We were lucky to get dungy given this teams history. Trash before and trash since. I’ve been a fan since 89 I’ve seen nearly every single game since then. Sure looks bad to me. Maybe the worst I’ve seen.

    If we do things right, we don’t have to be 5 years away. Even if we are, I sure as hell don’t want to believe that. Like I said, I’d rather lose with GMC on our team that lose without him. At least I’ll have someone to cheer for and be proud of. Pretty sure I’d rather see a big picture of him outside our stadium, versus a picture of Michael Johnson.

    Lovie’s defense is predicted on having a great 3 technique. Having the best is NEVER a bad thing. They said Revis wasn’t necessary in his defense either. I’d beg to differ from what I’ve seen so far. We should have kept Revis, and we should keep McCoy. I could have done without the 3 guys we brought in to replace Revis. As a result, we are not only weak on the line, we are now weak in the secondary. At least if we had Revis, we would have a shot in our secondary, and receivers wouldn’t be running slant routes without being so much as breathed on.

    The point is mr word analyzer is it’s a shame to see McCoy have to play for a team that has no idea how to field a competitive product after so many years.

  70. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @Kevin,

    We weren’t trash when Doug Williams was our QB. We also had a 10 year stretch or so when we had the most wins of any franchise within that period. We were regulars in the playoffs. So no, don’t call our Super Bowl luck, because we had great players and great coaches. That’s irrelevant to what we have now.

  71. "TheKevin" Says:

    I would hate to see McCoy leave as well.

    But don’t you feel bad for him a little bit? I sure do!

  72. HawaiianBuc Says:

    So because we aren’t good, we should just let Gerald go? Yeah, that’s perfect. While we’re at it, let’s let Jackson go too. Let’s let Lavonte move on to be with a winner. Let’s not even try to be competitive, because we are garbage and will always be garbage. Is that what you want?

  73. HawaiianBuc Says:

    I do feel bad for him, because I know he wants to win. I know the losing is wearing on him, and I know how serious he takes his job. However, I’m a fan of the Bucs first and foremost, so I’m not getting rid of our best player, period.

  74. "TheKevin" Says:

    Well we may not have a choice. He may not want to be here and I wouldn’t blame him. I didn’t start watching till 89 so I don’t know the Doug Williams era but I think he left in 82 or 83? Went to the playoffs like 3 times with the bucs. I dunno whatever. I just want to see a winner man.

    I know they are trying but it’s hard right now to be a fan. I will be cause I always have been. But damn. Come on already.

  75. HawaiianBuc Says:

    I want a winner too, which is why I don’t want to get rid of our best player. Pretty simple concept. If I thought getting rid of McCoy would make us any better, I’d pay for his plane ticket out of here.

    Speaking of our SB victory.

    I had family friends come down to Fla. from Mass. While I was BBQ’ing. One of our friends said to me about the Bucs SB. “Man that SB win was right out of nowhere for the Bucs, they went from sucking to the SB in like one season. What a fluke.”

    I think a lot of the country thinks like that when it came to that SB. The Bucs were so irrelevant for so long, people (non-Buc fans) forget how many times they were in the playoffs before they made it there. Our franchise is sooooo sh*tty no one outside of Buc fans, even pays attention or cares if were in the playoffs or not.

    That’s story and I’m sticking to it.

    Damn HawaiianBuc – you are on a mission with this thread. LOL

    I’m envisioning you slurping down your 4th cup of coffee hammering away at that keyboard.

    BTW – this statement doesn’t fly:
    “People said Revis wouldn’t get his money either.”

    The facts are we would have had to pay Revis $16M this year if we didn’t release him – and next year – and the year after – etc. I guarantee you the Bucs tried to renegotiate with Revis to see if they could keep him. Probably tried to offer a restructured long term deal in the $12-12.5M range with a decent part of it guaranteed (his long term contract with the Bucs last offseason was not guaranteed at all). Revis said HELL NO! (and thought to himself) – “If you want me to stay on this crap team – you will have to live up to what your dumbass and desperate former GM agreed to and seriously overpay me”. But the Bucs wisely said sorry – it is not in our best interest to pay even one of the best CBs $16M every year for the next 4 years. It was a bad deal – especially since the Bucs play a good bit of Zone coverage. So they cut ties with Revis and wished him well. And the end result was that Revis went and signed what was basically a 1 year deal with New England for……. wait for it……. $12M. And he will likely be playing for another team next year for roughly that same figure.

    Pickgrin …lol yup he lived on this thread for about 2 hours today. I bet he’s dreaming of GMC in his sleep tonight.
